Sweat ran its way down my cheeks. It was hot, and the air was still and wet. One final play and the State Softball Championship was ours. I looked towards people who were watching the game. Sure enough, I found my mom. I always hoped my dad were here. The farm needed his full attention, but I did not care.
Finally, we won! State Champs! I let out a stream of happiness, full of tears. My mom made a “V” to celebrate my success and smiled. I smiled back at her. We all received medals, but I cannot remember any of it. I concentrated my thoughts on my dad. I ran to my mom, asking for her cellphone. I had to tell my dad about the happiest day of my life, and complained (抱怨) about why he did not care.
The phone rang twice, and no one answered. My heart sank, but I tried again anyway. “Hello?” answered my dad. “Dad!” I cried. “We won State!” There was silence. “Dad?” I could hear something on the other end. “Are you crying?” “I’m just really happy for you, Meggie,” he said. “And I’m sorry I couldn’t be there.”
An apology was all I needed. I hung up the phone, feeling relaxed, and I began to understand how it must feel to be a father. I forgave him for never being there. He worked so I could play. My father loved me enough to let me experience life’s happiest moments without him.
24. Why did Meggie’s father fail to go to watch her game?
A. He had a full schedule to work on the farm. B. Meggie’s mother took his place to be there.
C. The game wasn’t so important to her father. D. Meggie did not want him to be there.
25. What is the purpose of Meggie calling her father?
A. To express her thanks. B. To show off her medals.
C. To share her joy of success. D. To get her father’s praise.
26. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Meggie would thank her father for all he did for her.
B. Meggie could spend more time doing the farm work.
C Meggie would apologize for being rude to her father.
D. Meggie could enjoy every moment without her father.
27. What can be the best title for the text?
A. My Final Game B. My Growing Pain
C. A Father’s Love D. A Father’s Farm

Have you ever imagined living in the Arctic (北极) where the temperature can reach as low as -70 °C? About four million people live in the Arctic, and about 170,000 of them are the Inuit (因纽特人).
The Inuit have their regular houses, but they need to build round houses called “igloos” when hunting. Igloos are made of snow or ice and are warm inside. But they can only be kept for about 50 days.
The Inuit get their food from the nearby sea. Eating fish and meat keeps them strong so that they can fight against the cold. But the downside is that they can’t grow enough vegetables because of the cold weather.
It is completely dark there for three months every year which is a period called “polar night (极夜)”. So life can be boring! But the good thing is that old people tell interesting stories during that time.
Now, ships bring many tourists to the Arctic. The advantage is that it brings more money and job chances, but the disadvantage is that the environment is being polluted.
28. What can we learn from the text?
A. There are no tourists in the Arctic.
B. The Arctic is dark all year round.
C. The Inuit can grow enough vegetables.
D. About 170,000 Inuits live in the Arctic.
29. What do we know about“igloos”from the text?
A. Igloos are helpful for the Inuit.
B. Igloos are very big ships.
C. Igloos are made of trees.
D. Igloos can be kept for about four months.
30. What do the Inuit usually do to kill time during the polar night?
A. They do indoor handcraft work.
B. They listen to interesting stories told by the elderly.
C. They build igloos for the coming winter.
D. They get food from areas close to the sea.
31. What’s the text mainly about?
A. Holidays in the Arctic. B. Dangers in the Arctic.
C. Inuit life in the Arctic. D. Tourists in the Arctic.

When you’re sitting in class or behind your desk waiting for the clock to strike a time when you can go home, it is natural that your mind should wander (走神) a bit. It is common for your mind to wander to a vacation and even travel around the world. What if there is a way that you can travel around the world without having to pay any money?
A person that managed to make it around the world without spending much was Shantanu Starick. How did he trade off his service? Starick realized that as a photographer he had a service that people would usually be willing to pay money for, but he would instead offer his photography service to anyone who could provide him with food, shelter (住处) and transportation. Starick has been traveling for a surprising 30 months and has visited countries ranging from the United States to Ecuador.
In English-speaking countries, trading off services and communicating aren’t difficult for Starick. However, in farther areas where there isn’t an English- speaking person in sight it can be quite difficult. More than anything, the locals appreciate (欣赏) the effort behind trying to speak their language, even if you don’t exactly sound like a native speaker.
You can do it too!
Honestly, with a bit of confidence, drive and a skill you can trade, you’ll be able to do exactly the same as Starick.
Start thinking about what you can do to get around the world without paying money. With our social networks and the connectivity our world has, you can easily connect with and market yourself to people across the world without any effort.
32. What is the author’s purpose in writing the first paragraph?
A To introduce the topic.
B. To describe students in class.
C. To give an example for the text.
D. To show people’s state of mind.
33. What does the underlined phrase “trade off” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Join. B. Exchange.
C. Stop. D. Improve.
34. In the locals’ opinion, what is the key to travelers in non-English-speaking countries?
A. The skills.
B. The confidence to succeed.
C. The bravery to travel.
D. The effort to speak the local language.
35. What do we know about Shantanu Starick?
A. His job is only traveling around the world.
B. He is too poor to afford the travels.
C. He has a skill to travel without paying much money.
D. He doesn’t hear of other languages except English.

77. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lily was a high school student who loved comparing herself with others. She always cared about the latest clothes, expensive phones, and designer bags. Whenever someone showed off a new item, she would feel jealous (嫉妒的) and want to buy something better. Her parents often told her, “True value isn’t in what you own,” but she never listened.
One day, Lily noticed a girl from another class whose name was Coco. Coco’s family was wealthy, but she always wore simple clothes and carried an old schoolbag. Unlike Lily, Coco never joined the students’ discussions about brands or prices. Instead, she spent her time helping classmates with math problems or volunteering in the school library. Her grades were always at the top of the class, and everyone respected (尊重) her.
Lily couldn’t understand why Coco didn’t care about material things. One afternoon, Lily saw Coco sitting alone under a tree, reading a book. She decided to talk to her. “Why don’t you buy nicer things?” Lily asked. “Your family has enough money.” Coco looked up with a smile. “I’d rather spend money on things that matter,” she said. “Like helping others or buying books.”
That night, Lily thought about Coco’s words. She realized that she had been looking for things that didn’t bring real happiness. The next day, she made a decision: she would stop comparing herself with others and start focusing on what was truly meaningful.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

第二节(满分25分)
【77题答案】
【答案】
The following week, Lily began to learn from Coco. She started by organizing her own bookshelf, donating clothes she seldom wore to charity, and spending more time reading in the library. Gradually, she found joy in helping others too. When a classmate struggled with English, Lily offered to study together after school. She even joined Coco in the library volunteer team. Instead of checking social media for the latest trends, she now looked for opportunities to make a difference. Her parents noticed the change — she talked less about buying things and more about what she had learned or who she had helped. One afternoon, while walking home, Lily realized she hadn’t compared herself to anyone all week. For the first time, she felt truly content.
Months later, teachers and classmates all praised Lily. Not only had her grades improved noticeably, but she had also become one of the most kind-hearted and respected students in school. During a class meeting, her teacher mentioned Lily’s transformation as an example of “real growth.” Coco smiled at her from across the room, and Lily knew she had finally understood what her parents meant by “true value.” It wasn’t about what you had, but who you became. Lily still liked pretty things, but now she valued kindness, knowledge, and generosity far more. She had learned that happiness comes not from having more, but from being more — for yourself and for others.
