If you are planning on traveling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
First of all, always check and doublecheck departure (出发) time.It is surprising how few people really do this carefully.Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten.My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane left at 10:50.When I arrived at the airport, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore,I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards (信用卡),it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金).Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars,I offered to pay in pounds instead.“Listen!I only take real money!”the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.
The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave.I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travel in heavy suits and raincoats in May,when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester,to places like Athens,Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.
24. Where is the writer most probably from?
A. Britain. B. The USA.
C. Italy. D. Greece.
25. When the writer found he had no dollars to pay the taxi driver,he ______________.
A. asked the driver to give him a free ride
B. offered to pay in pounds
C. gave the driver some fake (假的) money
D. tried to pay by credit card
26. Generally,in May the weather in London is ______________.
A. warm and dry B. cold and dry
C. hot and wet D. cool and rainy
27. The writer mainly tells us ______________.
A. how to make life easier
B. how to be well prepared for a trip
C. how to enjoy ourselves on the trip
D. how to schedule our trip

Can you imagine that you can save your own life during a heart attack by coughing? Let’s see how.
A heart attack can happen to anyone. Let’s say it’s 4:17 p.m. and you’re driving home (alone of course) after an unusually hard day on the job. Not only was the workload extremely heavy, but you also had a disagreement with your boss, and no matter how hard you tried, he just wouldn’t see your side of the situation. You’re really upset and the more you think about it, the more nervous you become.
All of a sudden you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to spread out into your arm and up to your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home, but unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far.
What can you do? You’ve been trained in CPR but the guy who taught the course didn’t tell you how to perform it on yourself.
Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, this article seems in order. Without help the person whose heart stops beating properly and who begins to feel faint has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very powerfully. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and last long, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without stopping until help arrives, or until the heart feels to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.
The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a phone and, between breaths, call for help.
Now, do you understand the whole matter? Tell as many other people as possible about this. It could save their lives!
28. According to the passage, CPR is most probably something done to .
A. regain someone’s breath and heart beat B. help someone treat a heart attack by himself
C. teach people how to stay in good state D. train people how to stay calm when facing dangers
29. According to Paragraph 5, coughing during a heart attack helps .
A. to relax the heart B. to get oxygen into the lungs
C. to keep the blood circulating D. to reduce the pain in the chest
30. We can learn from the passage that .
A. a long day’s work usually results in heart attacks
B. not only the chest aches when one suffers a heart attack
C. people should attend a CPR course to survive heart attacks
D. one should cough loudly immediately when one’s chest aches
31. In which section of a newspaper can you read this passage?
A. Health Care. B. Advertisement. C. Family. D. Teaching.
D
Your house may have an effect on your figure. Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.
Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less selfconscious (难为情) when they’re in poorly lit places—and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn’t have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.
Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites. In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it’s time to repaint, go blue.
Don’t forget the clock—or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories (卡路里) per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.
Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12inch plate instead of a 10inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake (摄入) jumps by 14 percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.
32. The text is especially helpful for those who care about ____________.
A. their home comforts B. their body shape
C. house buying D. healthy diets
33. A home environment in blue can help people ______________.
A. digest food better B. reduce food intake
C. burn more calories D. regain their appetites
34. What are people advised to do at mealtimes?
A. Eat quickly. B. Play fast music.
C. Use smaller spoons. D. Turn down the lights.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Is Your House Making You Fat? B. Ways of Serving Dinner
C. Effects of SelfConsciousness D. Is Your Home Environment Relaxing?

Eric was working in a selling business. He had been on the road visiting people for more than a month without going home. He couldn’t wait to get back to see his wife and children. It was coming up on Mother’s Day, and he usually tried to make it “back home”, but this year he was just too busy and too tired. The day when he was driving in a small town, he saw a flower shop. He said to himself, “I know what I will do. I’ll send my mother some roses.”
He stopped and went into the flower shop and saw a young man talking to the girl in it. “How many roses can I get for fifty dollars?” the boy asked. The girl was trying to explain that roses were expensive. Maybe the young man would be happy with something else.
“No. I have to have roses,” he said. “My mom was badly sick last year and I didn’t spend much time with her. I want to get something special. It has to be red roses, because that is her favorite,” He was stubborn.
The girl in the shop looked up at Eric and was just shaking her head. Something inside of Eric was touched by the boy’s voice. He wanted to get those roses so badly. Eric had been blessed (幸运的) in his business, and he looked at the girl and silently said that he would pay for the boy’s roses.
The girl looked at the young man and said, “OK, I will give you a dozen red roses for your dollars.” The young man almost jumped into the air. He took the flowers and ran out of the store. It was worth more than fifty dollars just to see that kind of excitement.
Eric ordered his own flowers and asked the girl to have it delivered to his mother. After that, with a relief he drove down the road. Not long after his driving, he saw the boy walking to a graveyard (墓地).
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Eric stopped his car and followed the young man.

The first day with a new class can be scary. Let's talk about three things you can do with a new class. First, break the ice. Ice's akers are a fantastic way to help a new group come together. They should allow everyone to participate without feeling embarrassed. For example, one idea is what's in your schoolbag. Ask students to empty their schoolbags to find an object that is significant to them. Let the group guess why each object is significant before the owner explains its importance. Second, the first day is also perfect for a needs analysis. IT lets you understand what your students expect to do. You can hand out cards with topics, vocabulary groups or skills on them, and then have students rank them in order of what we'd like to focus on. Lastly, IT is important to establish class rules. On the first day, you should get students to do, put some rules for the class. This approach gets them invested in the class. IT gives them some responsibility and makes them more likely to follow the rules. Thank you for joining us in the teachers'room, and we hope these tips help make your first day with a new class a success. Welcome to the teachers room. The show all about teaching practice. They should allow everyone to participate without feeling embarrassed. For example, one idea is what's in your schoolbag. Ask students to empty their schoolbags to find an object that is significant to them. Let the group guess why each object is significant before the owner explains its important second, the first day is also perfect for a needs analysis. IT lets you understand what your students expect to do. You can hand out cards with topics, vocabulary groups or skills on them, and then have students rank them in order of what they'd like to focus on. Lastly, IT is important to establish class rules. On the first day, you should get students to debate some rules for the class. This approach gets them invested in the class IT, gives them some responsibility and makes them more likely to follow the rules. Thank you for joining us in the teacher's room, and we hope these tips help make your first day with a new class a success. 第二节到此结束。

A. a long day’s work usually results in heart attacks
B. not only the chest aches when one suffers a heart attack
C. people should attend a CPR course to survive heart attacks
D. one should cough loudly immediately when one’s chest aches
31. In which section of a newspaper can you read this passage?

Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes.
【答案】32. B 33. B 34. C 35. A

【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了阅读能够让人的头脑成长,解释了阅读的一些好处。
【36题详解】
根据上文“If you are hungry, what do you do? Have your favorite meal and stay quiet after that.(如果你饿了,你会做什么?
根据后文“Why reading but not watching TV? It is because reading has been the most educative tool used by us right from childhood. Since it develops other aspects of our life, we have to get help from reading.( 为什么是阅读而不是看电视?这是因为阅读从孩提时代起就一直是我们最具教育意义的工具。因为它发展了我们生活的其他方面,我们必须从阅读中得到帮助)”可知,本段主要说明的是阅读可以解决大脑饥饿的原因。故G选项“大脑的饥饿实际上可以通过广泛的阅读来解决”符合语境,故选G。
【38题详解】
根据上文“Once you read a book, you run your eyes through the lines and your mind tries to explain something to you.(一旦你读了一本书,你的眼睛扫视着每一行字,你的大脑试图向你解释一些事情)”以及后文“Now this seed is unknowingly used by you to develop new ideas. If it is used many times, the same seed can give you great help to relate a lot of things which you would have never thought of in your wildest dreams!(现在这颗种子在不知不觉中被你用来发展新的想法。如果这粒种子被多次运用,它将会给你很大的帮助,使你联想到许多你做梦都想不到的事情!)”可知,上文提到了阅读过程,后文则提到这颗种子被用来发展新的想法,可推知,本句应当是在解释后文种子的来源。F选项中a seed与后文this seed相对应。故F选项“书中有趣的部分就像一粒种子一样储存在你的脑海里”符合语境,故选F。

【40题详解】
根据后文“Go and get a book!(去拿本书开始阅读吧!)”

Eric went into the car in tears.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Eric stopped his car and followed the young man. The young man went up to a small monument, and knelt down. He carefully put the flowers before it and began to sob. “Dear mom, I love you. But how I regret I didn’t tell it when you were with me. I knew you loved roses, but why didn’t I send the flowers to you when I could still see you and talk with you? Now, you have gone to another world. How I regret I didn’t tell you I loved you so much!”
Eric went into the car in tears. His mother’s home wasn’t far from here, but he hadn’t seen her for too long a time. He didn’t have a talk with her for too long a time and he didn’t say how much he loved her for too long a time. He turned the car and drove towards the road quickly to the flower shop. He asked the girl to give back the flowers because he wanted to send them personally to his mom.
