Zhoukoudian, Beijing Zhoukoudian, a UNESCO heritage site located 50 km from downtown Beijing, has been a significant site. At various parts of the site, scientists have unearthed the remains of early human “Peking Man” that date back more than 500,000 years, as well as of “Shandingdong Man”, who lived 30,000 years ago. Sanxingdui Ruins site, Sichuan province As one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century, the Sanxingdui Ruins are believed to be the remains of the Shu Kingdom, dating back at least 4,800 years and lasting over 2,000 years. The ruins are located in Guanghan city in Southwest China’s Sichuan province, covering 12 square kilometers. The Yinxu Ruins, Henan province The Yinxu Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Anyang city, Henan province, was an ancient capital of the Shang Dynasty (16th century BC-11th century BC). Spreading across over 30 square kilometers, the site features the greatest number of oracle bone inscriptions (甲骨文) discovered so far in the world. The Daming Palace, Shaanxi province Famous for its super-large scale and magnificent buildings, Daming Palace was the main royal palace in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) where Tang emperors lived and dealt with state affairs. Covering 3.2 square kilometers, it fully demonstrates the majestic style of grand architecture during the Tang empire. 1. Which site reflects the earliest human? A. Zhoukoudian. B. The Yinxu Ruins C. The Daming Palace. D. Sanxingdui Ruins site 2. What is the Yinxu Ruins known for? A. The grand architecture. B. Oracle bone inscriptions. C. Royal palace in the Tang Dynasty. D. The remains of the Shu Kingdom. 3. What was the Daming Palace used for in the Tang Dynasty? A. Unearthing early human remains. B. Being the royal palace for living and state affairs. C. Preserving oracle bone inscriptions. D. Being the capital of the Shu Kingdom. B People often have the impression that Chinese characters are extremely difficult to learn. In fact, if you were to try to learn how to write Chinese characters, you would find that they are not nearly as difficult as you may have imagined. And they certainly qualify as forming one of the most attractive, beautiful, logical, and scientifically constructed writing systems in the world. Each stroke (笔画) has its own special significance. If you are familiar with the rules of Chinese characters, you will find it very easy to remember even the most complicated looking character, and never miss a stroke. The earliest known examples of Chinese written characters in their developed form are carved into tortoise shells and ox bones. Most of these characters are pictographs. Archaeologists of various countries have learned that most early writing systems went through a pictographic stage, as did the Egyptian hieroglyphics. Most writing systems, however, eventually developed a phonetic (语音的) alphabet to represent the sounds of spoken language rather than visual images observed in the physical world. One notable feature of Chinese characters is the “radical”. “Radical” in English means “root”. For example, the characters yu “language”, shuo “talk”, and lun “discuss” all share the yan radical, which means “language,” and gives the reader a clue to the meaning of the character as a whole. The characters xiu “rotten”, shan “cedar”, tao “peach” and lin “forest” , all contain the mu “wood” or “tree” radical, indicating one of their shared key characteristics. If you know the radical of a character, you can usually get a general idea of the meaning of the character. Although there is a theoretical total of almost 50,000 written Chinese characters, only about 5,000 of these are frequently used; and the total number of radicals is only 214. So learning to read and write Chinese is not nearly so difficult a task as it may at first seem. 4. According to the author, Chinese characters are ________. A. extremely difficult to learn B. as difficult as you may have imagined C. difficult to remember D. scientifically constructed 5. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. All the Chinese characters are pictographs B. Some strokes are more important than others. C. There are rules in forming the Chinese characters. D. Some writing systems eventually developed a phonetic alphabet. 6. Which radical do the characters chi “eat”, he “drink”, wen “kiss”, and wei “feed” contain? A. The kou “mouth” radical. B. The mu “wood” or “tree” radical. C. The zu “foot” radical. D. The yan “language” radical 7. The passage is mainly about ________. A. the Chinese writing system B. the strokes of the Chinese characters C. pictographs D. the radical of the Chinese characters C It is hardly surprising that rivers have been an important part of human history: They provide food, freshwater, and rich land for growing crops. While water is crucial to life, it can be a destructive force, too. When rivers flood, the effects can be destructive. Flooding is one of the most common types, and it is often fatal While floods bring damage, they also bring nutrients and essential components for life. Seasonal floods can renew ecosystems, providing life-giving waters in more ways than one. Floods transport vital nutrients to the surrounding land. When the water flows away, it leaves nutrients behind on the floodplain. This rich, natural fertilizer improves soil quality and has a positive effect on plant growth, thus increasing productivity in the ecosystem. Ancient civilizations first started along the river mouths of seasonally flooded rivers, such as the Nile in Egypt, because they provided rich soil for farmlands. Floods can supply underground water sources. Floodwater goes into the ground, and then passed through beds of soil and rock, finally reaching underground aquifers (含水层). These aquifers supply clean freshwater to springs, wells, lakes, and rivers. Ecosystems rely heavily on groundwater during dry spells when it may be the only supply of freshwater available. A good supply of groundwater has a great impact on soil health and leads to more productive crop and pasture lands. Floods are a force of nature, and their results, both positive and negative, are strongly felt by affected ecosystems. Floods can be destructive to humans and the natural environment, but they also help to drive biodiversity and are essential to the functioning of many ecosystems. Whether you consider floods to be good or bad, one thing is for certain: The world would be a very different place without them. 8. Why does the author mention the role of water in paragraph 1? A. To show its importance in life. B. To lead in the topic of flooding. C. To present an argument about water. D. To describe the damaging force of nature. 9. What made the Nile one of ancient civilization birthplaces? A. The nutrients left in the water. B. The plant growth on the farmland. C. The groundwater sources in the ecosystem. D. The soil quality improved by fertilizer. 10. What can we imply from the text? A. Floods only bring damage to ecosystems. B. Floods are the main source of all groundwater. C. Floods provide freshwater directly to the rivers. D. Floods are important for underground water renewal. 11. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. The Results of Floods on Agriculture B. The History of Flooding in Ecosystems C. Rivers: A Source of Natural Environment D. Floods: A Force for Destruction and Renewal D As data and identity theft becomes more and more common, the market is growing for biometric(生物测量) technologies—like fingerprint scans—to keep others out of private e-spaces. At present, these technologies are still expensive, though. Researchers from Georgia Tech say that they have come up with a low-cost device(装置) that gets around this problem: a smart keyboard. This smart keyboard precisely measures the cadence(节奏) with which one types and the pressure fingers apply to each key. The keyboard could offer a strong layer of security by analyzing things like the force of a user’s typing and the time between key presses. These patterns are unique to each person. Thus, the keyboard can determine people’s identities, and by extension, whether they should be given access to the computer it’s connected to—regardless of whether someone gets the password right. It also doesn’t require a new type of technology that people aren’t already familiar with. Everybody uses a keyboard and everybody types differently. In a study describing the technology, the researchers had 100 volunteers type the word “touch” four times using the smart keyboard. Data collected from the device could be used to recognize different participants based on how they typed, with very low error rates. The researchers say that the keyboard should be pretty straightforward to commercialize and is mostly made of inexpensive, plastic-like parts. The team hopes to make it to market in the near future. 12. Why do the researchers develop the smart keyboard? A. To reduce pressure on keys. B. To improve accuracy in typing. C. To replace the password system. D. To cut the cost of e-space protection. 13. What makes the invention of the smart keyboard possible? A. Computers are much easier to operate. B. Fingerprint scanning techniques develop fast. C. Typing patterns vary from person to person. D. Data security measures are guaranteed. 14. What do the researchers expect of the smart keyboard? A. It’ll be environment-friendly. B. It’ll reach consumers soon. C. It’ll be made of plastics. D. It’ll help speed up typing. 15. Where is this text most likely from? A. A diary. B. A guidebook C. A novel. D. A magazine. Ways to have a happy school life Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. It wasn’t until my third year in high school that Imade up my mind to become a writer. Before that, I’d been bored with everything about English courses. I hated it when the task turned out to be long, lifeless paragraphs that were painful for teachers to read and for me to write. So when I learned Mr. Smith would teach us for third-year English, I saw another boring year. It was said that Mr. Smith was dull and unable to inspire students. Luckily, it was not the case. Before Mr. Smith taught us, I had guessed that I would have to bear a fruitless year with him. At the beginning, it appeared to be so. But a month later, we needed to write an informal article. Mr. Smith handed out a homework sheet, offering us a choice of various topics. I took the sheet home and did nothing until one day before the deadline. Lying on the sofa, I finally faced up to the unwelcome task, took the sheet out of my notebook, and scanned it. The topic that caught my eye was “The Art of Eating Spaghetti”. This title produced a special series of mental images. Vivid and sweet memories came flooding back to a night when all of us were seated around the supper table. On the table was spaghetti, which was known to most of us back then. Immediately, the good humor of spaghetti woke up in my mind as I recalled how we tried and argued over socially respectable methods for moving spaghetti from the plate to our mouths. Suddenly, I wanted to write about that, about the warmth and good feelings of it, but I wanted to put it down simply for my own joy, not for Mr. Smith. Maybe Mr. Smith would be annoyed, but it felt so good to write for myself! The next morning, I turned in my task, a bit worried and a bit eager. Two days later, in class, Mr. Smith returned everyone’s graded paper except mine. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I did my best not to show pleasure, but what I felt was pure delight at the class show. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025~2026学年度第一学期期末教学质量检测 高一英语试题 注意事项: 1. 1. Floods: A Force for Destruction and Renewal 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. D 11. A novel. D. A magazine. 12. D 13. C 14. B 15. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Two days later, in class, Mr. Smith returned everyone’s graded paper except mine. My heart sank as I waited, wondering if my casual, personal writing had disappointed him. Then he stood at the front, holding my paper, and said, “Now, class, I’d like to read you an essay. This is not just a good piece of writing — it’s a piece of art.” He began reading “The Art of Eating Spaghetti” aloud, his voice soft and warm, capturing every detail of that family dinner. When he finished, the room was quiet for a moment before erupting in applause. I sat frozen, hardly believing those words were mine. I did my best not to show pleasure, but what I felt was pure delight at the class show. After class, Mr. Smith pulled me aside and said, “This is your voice. Don’t ever stop writing like this — for yourself first.” That day, I didn’t just get an A on an essay; I found my purpose. The boring paragraphs of the past were gone, replaced by a fire to tell stories that mattered to me. Mr. Smith didn’t just teach me to write — he taught me to believe in my own words. 词汇激活 行为类 ①抓住:capture/catch/seize ②爆发掌声:erupt in applause /burst into applause /break into applause ③拉到一边:pull aside /take aside /draw aside 情绪类 ①(情绪瞬间)低落:sink /drop/plummet ②使失望:disappoint /let down/frustrate 【点睛】【高分句型 1】He began reading “The Art of Eating Spaghetti” aloud, his voice soft and warm, capturing every detail of that family dinner.(运用了独立主格结构his voice soft and warm 和现在分词capturing作伴随状语) 【高分句型 2】When he finished, the room was quiet for a moment before erupting in applause.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
