【2025原创】One cold winter afternoon, Jack’s mother sent him outside to
play in the snow.“You can build a snowman before Dad comes home,” she said.
Jack collected a bucket, a carrot, and some buttons for decorating. He started
rolling a small snowball across his yard, making it bigger and bigger.

At the window next door, his new neighbour Naoko was watching. She
asked her mother if she could help Jack. Soon, Naoko was outside in her warm
winter clothes.
“Can I help with your snowman?” Naoko asked.
“Sure!” Jack said.“I need to make the head. My dad will be home soon.”
Jack had already made two snowballs for the body. When he said he needed
a third ball for the head, Naoko looked confused.
“Snowmen only have two snowballs,” she said.
“No, they always have three!” Jack argued.“Maybe I don’t need your help.”

Feeling hurt, Naoko went to her own yard and built her own two-ball
snowman. She decorated it with pine cones and sticks.
Just as Jack’s father drove up the street, disaster struck—Jack’s snowman’s
head fell off and broke!
“Oh no!” Jack cried.
Naoko heard him and ran over.“Let’s make a new head together,” she said.
Working as a team, they quickly rolled a new snowball and lifted it onto
the snowman. Jack noticed Naoko’s snowman had no nose, so he broke his
carrot in half and shared it with her.
“I think our snowmen make good neighbours,” Jack said with a smile.#16
