Fuel savings and reductions in CO2 emissions are just two of the reasons for doing so. Fuel consumption decreases the slower you drive, because the moving car has to overcome fewer physical forces such as air resistance and rolling friction (摩擦) between tyres and road. Air resistance increases with the square of the speed. This means that a car experiences 28% more air resistance at a speed of 130km/h than at 110km/h. Slower speed is not the only way to reduce the CO2 emissions from your car. There are three automotive tips to help the climate else. STREAMLINE THE CAR 1. Unevenness (不均匀) increases the air resistance of your car, and so its CO2 emissions. Four open windows increase fuel consumption by up to 27%. GET UP THE GEARS (齿轮) QUICKLY 2. Petrol and diesel (柴油) cars should always be driven in the highest possible gear: the engine then has as few revolutions as possible. Fuel consumption between two gears can vary by up to 20%. MAINTAIN TYRE PRESSURE 3. Car tyres at the recommended pressure ensure ideal driving. If the tyre pressure drops to 75% pressure, fuel consumption increases by 2%. If it drops by half, the increase is as much as 10%. Here’s the breakdown of fuel consumption impact of driving habits and vehicle adjustments from the Federation of Danish Motorists (FDM). 1. Why does driving at a lower speed help cut fuel use? A. It weakens the physical forces the car must fight against. B. It changes the way air resistance affects the car. C. It lightens the weight of the moving vehicle. D. It makes the engine work at a higher speed. 2. What will happen if a car’s windows are wide open while driving? A. It’ll lower the car’s air resistance. B. It’ll reduce the car’s CO₂ emissions. C. It’ll lead to a sharp rise in fuel use. D. It’ll make the car run more smoothly. 3. What is the fuel-saving effect of reducing speed from 130km/h to 110km/h according to FDM data? A. 10%. B. 16%. C. Up to 20%. D. Nearly 28%. B THE PALISADES FIRE in Los Angeles burned Charlotte Tragos’s home to the ground. “It was a pretty special and unique house,” says Tragos, who fled with her family when the fire broke out. “The streets were packed with people running, driving on the wrong side of the road,” she says, adding that everyone knew they were running for their lives. A few days after the fire started, a friend shared a video with her of a Los Angeles artist offering to create, for free, watercolor paintings of people’s homes before they were scorched (烧焦). Tragos reached out to the artist, Jordan Heber, asking if she could do Tragos’s childhood home. Heber accepted and completed a painting of Tragos’s home in just three days. Tragos says she will forever be grateful to Heber. “It means the world,” she says. “We’re in a position where we have nothing, and anything like that, especially pieces that mark what the house meant to us — it is really uplifting.” “I moved around a lot when I was younger, and so the meaning of home is significant to me,” Heber says. After the wildfires started, Heber thought about ways she could contribute. A friend sent her an Instagram post by another local artist offering to draw people’s homes at no charge, and Heber was inspired. Shortly after she posted her offer on social media, requests started coming in. Heber has created more than 25 paintings, including one for Jeremy Wineberg, whose home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed. “It was a place you never wanted to leave,” says Wineberg, adding that the house had been in his family for nearly 30 years. “We told her our story, and she so kindly and lovingly made such a beautiful memory that looks exactly as if it was a photograph,” says Wineberg. Heber is glad people find her paintings meaningful, saying, “Hopefully it inspires others to pitch in with their own gifts.” 4. How did Tragos feel about Heber’s painting of her childhood home? A. She viewed it mainly as a beautiful piece of artwork. B. She felt it failed to capture the true memory of her home. C. She found it emotionally comforting during a difficult time. D. She considered it a practical replacement for her lost belongings. 5. Why did Jordan Heber offer to paint for wildfire victims? A. She needed to improve her painting skills. B. She was responding to numerous requests. C. She was inspired by an artist’s act of kindness. D. She valued the meaning of home since childhood. 6. Which of the following can best describe Jordan Heber? A. Conservative and selfless. B. Innovative and compassionate. C. Humble and adventurous. D. Enterprising and devoted. 7. What can be inferred from Jordan Heber’s words in the last paragraph? A. She wants to teach wildfire victims how to paint. B. She hopes to encourage more people to help others. C. She regrets not being able to help more wildfire victims. D. She plans to stop painting and focus on her full-time job. C We know that some animals live longer than others, but we do not yet fully understand why. Researchers have previously identified brain size and metabolic (新陈代谢) rates as factors that can vary lifespan, but now evolutionary researchers from the UK’s University of Bath have found another factor, and it’s one that could be key to understanding why cats tend to live longer than dogs. “Our study reveals the surprising role played by the immune system-not just in fighting disease, but also in supporting longevity across a wide range of mammals,” says Benjamin from the University of Bath’s Centre for Evolution. The research does not dismiss the other reasons, rather suggesting longevity is a combination of factors. The researchers investigated the maximum lifespan of 46 different mammalian species, comparing the animals’ genes. The team studied dolphins, which can live for up to 39 years, and other whales that live for up to 100 years, but they also looked into smaller animals such as mice, which typically live for only one to two years. The results showed that certain small animals live longer than expected, such as naked mole rats, which can live 20 years despite a small size and brain. The species that live the longest had more genes associated with their immune system, according to the researchers; the team believes that a strong immune system acts to eliminate damaged cells, while also fighting infections and preventing disease. Cats are gifted with a strong natural immunity through a diverse set of immune-related genes, whereas the selective breeding of dogs has left some breeds with inherited immune deficiencies (缺陷). The researchers now intend to look deeper into significant differences in the lifespans of different mammals by investigating specific genes that relate to cancer and other life-shortening diseases. 8. How does the author present the issue in the first paragraph? A. By quoting an expert. B. By defining a concept. C. By comparing findings. D. By providing statistics. 9 What did the University of Bath researchers focus on? A. Daily eating habits. B. Living environments. C. Genetic characteristics. D. Reproductive patterns. 10. Why does the author mention naked mole rats? A. To compare their lifespan with that of mice. B. To explain why small animals live shorter lives. C. To show naked mole rats have the longest lifespan. D. To prove size and brain size don’t determine lifespan. 11. What is the researchers’ next plan? A. To study the immune system of cats and dogs. B. To explore genes associated with severe diseases. C. To confirm the role of metabolic rates in lifespan. D. To investigate the effect of breeding on immunity. D There are many things that are opposed by Robert F. Kennedy junior, America’s health secretary, and his supporters. One that really upsets them is seed oils. In their telling, the oils are “toxic”. Now some American fast-food chains have swapped the oils for other fats. Is the stuff as bad as they make out? Seed oils are extracted from corn, soyabean, sunflower and other seeds. Critics worry most about two things. The first is that harmful chemicals used in oil processing may end up in the finished product. The second is the oils’ content of omega-6 fatty acids. This type of fat, opponents claim, causes cancer, heart attacks and obesity. On both counts, the scientific evidence says otherwise. A chief concern for seed-oil opponents is that linoleic acid (亚油酸) , the main omega-6 fat in seed oils, can turn into inflammatory (炎症的) compounds in the body. Yet it is also broken down into some anti-inflammatory compounds. That makes it hard to work out whether it is pro- or anti-inflammatory overall. In trials, increasing participants’ consumption of linoleic acid had no effect on inflammatory markers in their bodies. There are also clear benefits: seed oils are high in healthy polyunsaturated (多不饱和的) fats, meaning that choosing them over saturated fats like butter lowers cholesterol levels, which cuts the risk of heart attacks. Long-term observational studies reach equally reassuring conclusions. A recent one found that those following diets high in vegetable oils lived longer, healthier lives than those whose diets were low in vegetable oils. An earlier study, published by the World Health Organisation, found that higher intake of omega-6 fats was linked with lower death rates. In short, seed oils are unlikely to cause harm — in fact, they are probably good for you, especially if they are consumed in moderation and supplemented by other, healthy fats. Overconsumption is usually the consequence of a generally unhealthy diet, full of fried or ultra-processed foods. spoon for spoon, seed oils are much healthier than some of the alternatives championed by their critics. 12. Why do critics oppose seed oils? A. They are extracted mainly from seeds of plants. B. They are no longer a key ingredient in fast-food. C. They are a leading contributor to several diseases. D. Their extraction procedure poses a threat to health. 13. Which of the following might the author agree with? A. Omega-6 fatty acids are unhealthy. B. Butter helps reduce cholesterol levels. C. The effect of linoleic acid is confirmed. D. Seed oils contribute to a longer lifespan. 14. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Alternative fats advocated by critics are harmful. B. Seed oils are harmless when consumed in moderation. C. Seed oils can serve as a supplement for fats like butter. D. The nutritional benefits of seed oils have been undervalued. 15. What is the suitable title of the passage? A. Dismiss the Doubts: What Is in Seed Oils? B. Put the Fears to Rest: The Truth About Seed Oils C. Weigh the Options: Seed Oils or Traditional Fats? D. Mind the Threat: The Hidden Danger in Your Kitchen 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Many of us get lost in social media. Worldwide, the average adult spends more than 2. 5 hours per day immersed in social apps. All that scrolling (滚屏) can cause harm: too much social media use is linked with loneliness, depressive symptoms and poor self-esteem. ____16____ Here are some strategies to help reset your relationship with social media. ____17____ When you start to feel overwhelmed by social media, return to a “tech intentions” document: a record of the ways you will and will not use the apps. For example, “I use social media to connect with others, to learn new things daily, to record my life, and to express myself creatively, ” or “I do not use social media as a replacement for IRL. ” Write your own version, and stick it to your desk or wherever you might be distracted to mindlessly scroll. Set specific goals Committing to using social media less is too general a resolution to be effective. Instead set specific goals or boundaries. ____18____ Then, set up systems to make that possible: Put your phone in another room, or put it on “do not disturb”. Go on an unfollowing spree (狂欢) Is it serving you to keep getting updates about your friends, or from the reality stars? Maybe you’re no longer crazy about baby pandas and are now on to quokkas. ____19____ Unfollow the accounts that are no longer fulfilling a role, and instead seek out those that are inspiring, educational, or related to hobbies you’d like to cultivate. Make a list of scrolling substitutes If you weren’t scrolling through social media posts, what would you be doing? Make a list of activities you enjoy — and make sure they’re intellectually, emotionally, or physically feeding you. You might go for a walk, read a book, take up the guitar, or try out some crafting projects. ____20____ A. Craft a mission statement. B. Record your personal preference. C. So take the time to think about what’s working. D. At times we’re not even aware of how we’re using it. E Maybe you get three 20-minute social media sessions per day. F. You have finished the party and don’t need to keep seeing fancy dresses. G. That day, I was carrying express boxes upstairs when she slowly came down, holding the handrail (楼梯扶手). She gave me an oil-paper wrapped candy: “Young man, take care — these stairs are slippery.” I thanked her quickly and hurried on. Her door was always piled high with junk, and the potted plants on her windowsill (窗台) were wilted (枯萎的), giving off a lonely, cold atmosphere. The change happened on a rainy night. I worked overtime late and rushed into the corridor with my electric bike, only to see Grandma Chen squatting (蹲着) at my door, soaked through, clutching a plastic bag tightly. “You’re back!” She stood up hurriedly and held out the bag. “I saw your jasmine (茉莉) fell over on the balcony this afternoon. I was afraid the rain would ruin its roots, so I moved it inside.” I suddenly remembered I’d forgotten to bring in the new jasmine pot that morning. Inside the bag, the flower was wrapped in an old towel, leaves still dotted with water — unharmed. I urged her into my house to dry off, but she waved me away: “Don’t bother. I’m just a dirty old lady.” As she spoke, she slipped and stumbled toward the stairs. I caught her just in time and noticed her swollen knee. That night, I applied medicine to her knee. She sat on my sofa restlessly, repeating, “I’m troubling you so much.” After that, I made sure to chat with Grandma Chen whenever we met. She still spoke little, but every morning when I left, there would be a bag of fresh vegetables from her small garden downstairs at my door. Last Saturday, I forgot to take out the trash before a business trip. When I came back, my doorway was spotless. Grandma Chen’s door was slightly open, and I heard faint coughing inside. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 I pushed the door gently. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Once Grandma Chen recovered, she knocked on my door. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 枣阳二中2026届高三年级2月月考英语试题 注意事项: 1. 1. This gift represents not only our beautiful planet but also growth and peace. In the vast, silent universe, it would carry our shared hope that exploration always goes hand in hand with harmony and care for life. Thank you for listening. 第二节 读后续写(满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】 I pushed the door gently. Inside, I saw Grandma Chen lying on her bed, looking pale and weak. A bowl of medicine was placed beside her, and I could tell from the smell that it was bitter. “Are you feeling better?” I asked, sitting down beside her. She nodded weakly and said, “I’m just a bit tired. Thank you for taking care of me.” I realized then that she had been taking care of me too, in her own quiet way. Once Grandma Chen recovered, she knocked on my door. She held a basket of freshly picked vegetables in her hands and said, “I want to thank you for helping me when I was sick.” I smiled and invited her in, knowing that this simple act of kindness had brought us closer together. From that day on, we became like family, always there to lend a helping hand whenever one of us needed it, which made our lives in the old community much warmer. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
