Zong Qinghou, the founder and chairman of Hangzhou Wahaha Group, China’s leading beverage manufacturer, passed away on Sunday at the age of 79. As one of the most respected representatives of China’s first generation of entrepreneurs since the country embarked on reform and opening-up in 1978, Zong’s down-to-earth style and innovative spirit greatly impressed the public.
Experts said Zong’s rags-to-riches life story will surely inspire more Chinese entrepreneurs to focus on the real economy and run their businesses in a pragmatic and steady manner.
Born in 1945 in Suqian, Jiangsu Province, Zong took over a small grocery store at a school in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, in 1987, and worked as a distributor of soft drinks and popsicles (棒冰) for children. In 1989, he founded Hangzhou Wahaha Nutritional Food Factory, which became Hangzhou Wahaha Group two years later after the acquisition of a local canned food factory on the verge of bankruptcy. In 1996, Zong launched Wahaha AD calcium milk, which became a great hit with Chinese consumers.
The company’s products now cover more than 200 categories, including purified water, milk and yogurt drinks, carbonated drinks, fruit and vegetable juice, tea and coffee drinks, with its sales revenue reaching 51.2 billion yuan ($7.1 billion) in 2022. It has nearly 30,000 employees and 81 production bases nationwide. As one of the most iconic figures in Chinese business history, Zong was ranked as the country’s richest person in 2010, 2012 and 2013 by business magazine Forbes.
However, Zong led a simple and thrifty life. He lived frugally, and it was common to see him dressed in a white shirt and black cloth shoes. He once said, “I am an ordinary person, but luckily I was born in such an era.” He said that Wahaha would not exist without reform and opening-up.
4. When it comes to Zong, which one will leave people a deep impression?
A. His huge wealth.
B. His simple and thrifty lifestyle.
C. His sure-footed and creative spirit.
D. His great contribution to Chinese business field.

Topics on winter tourism have circulated all across the Internet after Harbin’s “ice world” in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang brought in nearly six billion yuan during a three-day holiday in January 2024.
Harbin’s success has been a perfect example of the strong growth of China’s winter tourism industry in the post-Winter Olympics period. A report by the tourism academy said that individual tours have grown to be the major choice for winter travelers in recent years. According to the report, individual winter travel from November to mid-December increased by 46.3 percent compared with the same period in 2019, before COVID-19 hit, while group tours for winter fell slightly by 0.14 percent.
“The city offers goodwill and warmth to travelers. The best tourism lies in the human touch and travelers can have good experiences in the city with kindness and generosity from the local people.” Li Shengwen, director of travel portal Tuniu’s business in central and northeastern provinces, said that she and her peers have observed a continuous surge of winter bookings as domestic tourism has grown more diversified and professional.
However, the domestic winter tourism industry still faces shackles preventing its development. According to the tourism academy, the growth of domestic winter tourism requires efforts from governments and industry operators to secure the industry a more stable and sustainable development.
Insufficient use of ice and snow-related avenues and facilities, as well as weaker branding and innovation need urgent solutions, the report said. “We still hold a very bullish view on the future development of winter tourism, and Harbin has set us a very good example. The winter tourism market in northern provinces still has great potential and resources yet to be fully unleashed. We will see a better and more mature winter tourism industry after the services can be improved,” said Li.
8. What is the main idea of paragraph 2?
A Travelers show more interest in individuals recently.
B. The winter tourism in Harbin is the most successful.
C. Harbin will take the lead in China’s winter tourism.
D. Harbin sets a good example to the industry of China’s winter tourism.
9. According to Li Shengwen, the best tourism consists in ________.
A. individual tours B. good experiences of life
C. human kindness of local people D. diverse and professional tourism
10. What is the closest meaning to the underlined word “shackles”?
A. Obstacles. B. Challenges. C. Chains. D. Boosters.
11. What does Li Shengwen think of the winter tourism market in northern provinces?
A. Impractical. B. Promising. C. Unconcerned. D. Worried.

Of all the creatures on the planet, the narwhal is one of the strangest looking. It’s a whale which has a large protruding task coming out of its head; that’s how it got its nickname, the unicorn (独角兽) of the sea. Experts say some populations of narwhal could be extinct by 2025, and it’s all because of noise pollution.
Narwhals rely on echolocation, which they use to find food and navigate their surroundings. The animal produces a sound wave which bounces off an object. They pick this reflected sound up through their lower jaw, and information on features like size and speed passes to their ears.
However, increase in human marine activity, as well as climate change, has resulted in the Arctic Ocean becoming noisier, which means it’s more difficult for narwhals to rely on sound. Susanna Blackwell, who studies the effects of underwater noise on marine animals, said that there is noisier activity in the Arctic Ocean than ever because, as sea ice melts, new navigation routes are opening. And while icebergs breaking and creaking have been part of the ocean soundscape for hundreds of years, man-made noise is much harder for animals to adapt to, particularly as these changes are so sudden.
Research published in Science Advances in 2023 recorded the reactions of narwhals to the simulated noises of oil expeditions made by a patrol vessel. The scientists tagged and tracked the creatures and found that, on hearing these sounds, they ended deep dives and stopped clicking, the echolocation signal they use for finding food underwater.
So, what can we do? Charlotte Findlay, a postdoctoral fellow at Aarhus University, says “noise is actually quite easy to solve. We need to either turn it off or turn it down.”
12. Why is the narwhal nicknamed “the unicorn of the sea”?
A. Because of its species. B. Because of its population.
C. Because of its appearance. D. Because of the pollution.
13. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Narwhals all depend on sound to find food.
B. Man-made noise is the most difficult for animals to adapt to.
C. The Arctic Ocean becomes noisier partly because of climate change.
D. Despite the new navigation routes, the Arctic Ocean still keeps calm.
14. How did scientists know the reactions of narwhals to simulated noises?
A. They used echolocation signal.
B. They published articles in Science Advances.
C. They took deep dives and stopped clicking.
D. They tagged and tracked the creatures.
15. What can be the best title of this passage?
A. Narwhal Population: Affected by Climate Change
B. Narwhal Population: Affected by Noise Pollution
C. Noise Pollution: the Killer of Marine Animals
D. Noise Pollution: the Savior of Narwhal Population

Maddy’s daughter, Cathy, suffered from a condition called spina bifida (脊柱裂). She spent most of her life in a wheelchair, which made even the simplest tasks a daunting challenge. One such challenge for Cathy was getting a haircut. As Maddy’s neighbor, I witnessed the daily struggle firsthand and felt the urge to help. A stylist myself, I decided to visit Maddy’s home to cut Cathy’s hair. Little did I know this small act would ignite a spark within me.
Through my visits, I realized that many others in our community had the same problem. Maddy explained the difficulties special groups of people encountered — the loud noises and strong smells in regular hair salons were too much for people with autism (自闭症). Also, just getting into a salon was tough for people in wheelchairs. Her words touched me, and I wondered if there was something more I could do to help.
An idea began to form in my mind — I could open a special salon, a place where people with physical disabilities or psychological problems would feel more comfortable. It wouldn’t just be easy to enter for people in wheelchairs; it would also have floors with different textures to help those who can’t see well. To make the place even more comfortable, it would have calm music instead of loud pop songs. Toys and blankets would be on hand to help people stay calm. Hairstylists would use quiet hair dryers and soft voices. They would also learn how to help customers who don’t like others touching their hair. Most importantly, they would treat every client with the same level of respect.
The only issue was that I didn’t have the funds to make this dream a reality. As a stylist, I had limited savings. Maddy suggested, “How about organizing a community bazaar in our neighborhood this Saturday to raise funds for the salon?” Her eyes shimmered with enthusiasm as she continued, “People love supporting good causes, and I’m sure many would join in to help create a place where everyone feels comfortable getting a haircut.” I nodded, recognizing the brilliance in her plan.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As Saturday approached, our neighborhood underwent a transformation.

Zong Qinghou, the founder and chairman of Hangzhou Wahaha Group, China’s leading beverage manufacturer, passed away on Sunday at the age of 79.

A. Travelers show more interest in individuals recently.
B. The winter tourism in Harbin is the most successful.
C. Harbin will take the lead in China’s winter tourism.
D. Harbin sets a good example to the industry of China’s winter tourism.
9. According to Li Shengwen, the best tourism consists in ________.

47. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】Paragraph 1:
As Saturday approached, our neighborhood underwent a transformation. The familiar streets became lively with colorful stalls, each offering different goods and crafts. The smell of freshly baked bread filled the air, and the sounds of laughter and cheerful chatter echoed along the sidewalks. Neighbors, young and old, flocked to the event, contributing not only as buyers but also as sellers and volunteers. Our community bazaar, once just an idea, had blossomed into a real gathering with a shared purpose. Seeing how successful the event was, I felt excited and grateful. Judging from Maddy’s smile, I knew she shared the same feeling with me.
Paragraph 2:
Even after the conclusion of the community bazaar, our neighbors’ support didn’t end there. Donations continued to flow in, and several local businesses reached out, offering to sponsor or donate materials for the salon. My heart would swell with joy every time I saw their enthusiastic smiles. After six months, we finally had enough funds to open our hair salon. I invited Cathy to be our first customer. As I watched the scissors cutting through the air, I realized it wasn’t just a haircut for Cathy — it symbolized the sympathy and victory of a community coming together to make a positive difference.
