Unit 2 Stay Healthy (8篇)
Passage 1
Dear Amy,
My special hobby is picking up rubbish. Yes, that’s right. And I especially enjoy collecting waste wood. These pieces of wood may not be wanted (被需要) by others, but my grandfather and I can give them a new life. We love turning them into flower shelves, sunshades and even swings. We place them in our garden and they make us very happy. They also give our garden a sense of design.
I also like picking up bottles. These are usually empty bottles. We can repurpose (重新利用) them by making holes at the top and use them to water flowers. Of course there can be many other uses for these bottles.
I find picking up these waste things very enjoyable. Some people think it’s difficult to discover the hidden treasures of waste things, but it is a piece of cake for me. I’m really good at turning these seemingly useless objects into useful resources. They can help us do many things and create a much cleaner environment.
We are always encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. By doing these, we can not only create cool new things but also play our part in protecting the environment.
My special hobby of recycling rubbish really brings me a lot of fun and a sense of accomplishment (成就感). Would you join me? Let’s do our part to help make the world a cleaner and better place!
Yours,
Yang Jing

My parents often worried about me, but I just thought they were being too strict. One day, I fainted (昏倒) during a PE class. The doctor told me that my poor eating habits and lack of exercise had made my body weak. That moment was a wake-up call for me.

Passage 3
When you don’t feel well, it’s important to take good care of yourself. Here are some simple steps to follow.
First, tell someone around you. If you feel sick at school, tell your teacher. At home, tell your parents or grandparents. They can help you get the right care.

If you have a fever or headache, ask an adult for medicine. Never take medicine by yourself. Adults will give you the right number of pills. You can also use a cool towel (毛巾)to feel more comfortable.
Stay away from others to keep them from getting sick too. If you have a cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue (面巾纸). Throw the tissue away quickly and wash your hands after.

Passage 5
My Journey into Painting
When I was a child, I loved to draw cartoons in my notebook. But I never thought I would become a painter. It all started three years ago. My best friend gave me a set of watercolor paints on my birthday. I decided to take up painting as a hobby. At first, I only painted in my free time. I would try out different colors and brush techniques.
Sometimes, I felt unhappy because my paintings didn’t look like what I imagined. My art teacher told me not to give up so easily. She said, “Great painters practice every day. You need to watch others paint and learn from them.” So I started to watch online painting lessons. I also joined a painting club, where I joined others in painting outdoors on weekends.
Now, painting is more than a hobby. It has become a daily part of my life and even my full-time job. Painting has taught me to be patient and creative. It has also taught me to see beauty in the small, common things: the way sunlight filters (透过) through leaves, the soft curve (曲线) of a teacup, or the smile of a stranger on the street. I’ve learned that even when a painting doesn’t turn out as I hoped, it’s not a failure—it’s just a step toward something better. I’m so glad I decided to try it that day, because it didn’t just give me a job; it gave me a way to connect with the world and express the feelings I can’t always put into words.

Fun activities are important in our lives. However, they have both good and bad sides.
The good sides of fun activities are great. First, they make us happy. Playing ball games with friends makes us laugh. Second, they help us make friends. In a reading club, we can meet other people with the same hobby.
The bad sides of fun activities are not far away. First, they can be dangerous. For example, it’s easy for us to ignore the risks of some sports. We may get hurt if we are not careful. So what can we do? We should have fun in the right ways. We should be careful when we take part in some sports. We must be aware of the risks if we ignore them. These days, many kids like collecting special things called “Goods (谷子)”. Fans often call them “guzi”. Among these Goods, the most popular is the badge (徽章), known as “baji”.
These badges are usually small and round, and there are pictures of characters from famous cartoons on them. However, not every company (公司) can sell badges. Only some cartoon companies have the right to sell those badges, and their prices differ a lot. Usually, common badges might cost 15 to 30 yuan.
Why do teenagers love badges so much? First, wearing a badge shows their love for a cartoon. It makes them feel close to the characters they like. Second, badges help them make friends. At anime conventions, badge lovers talk to each other, trade badges, and meet people with the same hobbies. They know they’re part of a big group.
But sometimes this hobby can cause problems. Some fans spend too much money—they even use their breakfast money to buy expensive badges. Others get upset if they can’t get the badges they want, or if someone else has a better collection.
Collecting “baji” and other kinds of “guzi” can be a fun hobby. But it’s also important to remember not to spend too much money or get too stressed about it. After all, the real magic of cartoons is in the stories and the feelings they give us, not just in the badges we collect.

Passage 9
Many people exercise every day or every other day. You may be the same. But what about those times when you are sick? If you do not feel well, should you keep following your daily exercise habit?
Laskowski, a doctor, says that right exercise is usually OK if you have a common cold.
Laskowski and other doctors have a common rule about it. “It is usually fine to exercise,” he says, “if your symptoms are all ‘above the neck’, such as a runny nose, a sneeze (喷嚏) or a minor (轻微的) sore throat. ”
Laskowski also says that exercise may make you feel better and help you breathe more easily. An American health website gives a similar idea.
Geralyn Coopersmith, a physical fitness trainer, has written some books on exercise. He says, “The rule is that if you take some medicine and don’t feel so sick, it’s OK to exercise.”
However, both Coopersmith and Dr Laskowski say taking a break is better if your symptoms appear “below the neck”, such as a serious cough or pain in the stomach.
If you don’t feel too bad, they both suggest cutting back on the intensity (强度) of your exercise. For example, if you usually run, take a quick walk instead. When you feel better, you can exercise with your usual intensity. However, Dr Laskowski says that exercising when you have more than a common cold could bring more serious illness.
33.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Exercising when you eat nothing.
B.Exercising when you get little sleep.
C.Exercising when you break your legs.
D.Exercising when you have a common cold.

A.When they have a common cold.
B.When they have some pain in the stomach.
C.When they just feel a little tired.
D.When they have some pain in their eyes.
35.What can you infer from the passage?
A.The doctor and the trainer both wrote some books about exercise.
B.A common cold could bring serious illness after you exercise.
C.Taking a quick walk is better than running when you don’t feel too bad.
D.If you have a serious cough, you should run half an hour less than usual.
36.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.How can you keep healthy?
B.How often do you exercise?
C.Should you exercise while you feel sick?

Passage 10
What if you hurt your leg or a pet hurts you by mistake? Unexpected things happen to everyone. Small wounds need loving care and enough time to get better again. Luckily, you can take care of most small wounds without visiting a hospital; that’s why it’s a good idea to have simple first-aid tools on hand at home.
The first thing to do is to stop bleeding quickly. Small cuts usually close up on their own. If not, cover the wound with a clean cloth or bandage. Then press on it until the bleeding stops.
Next, it’s important to clean the wound with running water so as not to get bad germs (细菌). Use warm water and soap to carefully wash the wound until the dirt is off. If needed, wet some cotton gauze pads (纱布垫) with alcohol (酒精) and clean again. After that, dry the wound completely.
Then, cover the wound to keep out bad germs using a bandage, gauze pads, or other kinds of clean covers.
Finally, be kind to your wound. Try not to hit it. When the bandage gets wet or dirty, replace it. After a scab (痂) forms, let the wound get some fresh air so that it can get better as soon as possible.
All in all, you can deal with small cuts quickly by first aid at home. Actually, there’s more you can learn about first aid.
37.The underlined word “it” refers to “_______”.

In February 2025, Beijing Children’s Hospital brought in the country’s first AI pediatrician (儿科医生). An 8-year-old boy had a sudden and serious illness. Thirteen top experts were trying hard to find the best treatment. At the same time, the AI doctor came up with a treatment plan and it was like the human doctors’ thoughts.
In Shandong, a couple were very distressed when their child had a high fever. They decided to try DeepSeek before going to the hospital: After putting in the description of the illness, the AI said it was probably a bacterial infection (细菌感染) and suggested some medicine. When they went to the hospital, the doctor gave the exact same medicine.
Even in some villages of Jiangsu, AI doctors help patients know about their illnesses and make it easier for disabled people to move around in the hospital.
All these examples show us two important things AI doctors can do. They can help top doctors make better choices and they can also make healthcare easier for everyone in the country. Passage 12
If you hurt your leg or a pet hurts you by mistake, what will you do?

If you don’t mind eating uncooked garlic, it’s best to eat a few pieces every three to four hours when you feel the first signs of a cold.
Many people know that salt can kill germs. For a sore throat, mix about half a spoon of salt into warm water and use the mixture as a mouthwash (漱口水). As a mixture of salt and water pours into the throat, the germs will die.

Passage 14
Chinese scientists have discovered four kinds of Gentiana (龙胆属) on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (青藏高原), whose flowers can close within seconds after being touched, making them the most sensitive flowers in the world, according to a recently published study.
“The flowers disappeared quickly in front of you,” said Dai Can, one of the scientists who led the study. Some people on Chinese social media said the flowers are the “shyest” in the world. The rapid movement of petals has always been interesting to scientists and nature lovers, as unlike animals, plants are usually static.
Leaves of carnivorous plants can react to touch. Before the Gentiana discoveries, the only known plant to display such behavior was the sundew (茅膏菜) plant. Its green leaves can curl up within 2 to 10 minutes after being touched by a fly. It takes between 4 and 6 days for the leaf to digest the fly it catches.
However, the four kinds of Gentiana take 7 to 210 seconds to close their petals, making them the most sensitive and fast-reacting flowers in the world, the study said.
The flowers were discovered in 2020 near a lake in Nagchu, Xizang Autonomous Region.
The Gentiana’s flower could protect itself from repeated visits by bumblebees that have a large body, the study said. Another explanation could be that the plant encourages bumblebees to transfer pollen among more flowers, because a closed flower would show them that it has already been visited and the bees should look for another flower. Wang Qingfeng, a researcher at Wuhan Botanical Garden, said both should be examined further in future studies.
53.After being touched, the Gentiana can close its flower ________.
A.in about 10 minutes
B.in about 5 minutes
C.within 7 to 210 seconds
D.between 4 and 6 days
54.The underlined word “static” in the passage probably means “________”.
A.very beautiful B.not moving C.having a short life D.enjoyable
55.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The plants living in Nagchu can react to touch.
B.The four kinds of Gentiana are endangered plants.
C.The sundew plant is a kind of carnivorous plant.
D.Bumblebees are harmful to the Gentiana’s flower.
56.The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.how the bumblebees transfer pollen
B.why the Gentiana’s flower closes its petals
C.how the Gentiana’s flower encourages bumblebees
D.what Wang Qingfeng thinks of the study

A hobby can be almost anything a person likes to do in his free time. Hobbyists keep pets, build model ships, watch birds, climb mountains, grow flowers, fish, ski, skate and swim. Hobbyists also paint pictures, attend concerts and plays and perform on musical instruments. They collect everything from books to butterflies, and from coins to stamps.
People have hobbies because these activities offer enjoyment, friendship, knowledge and relaxation. Sometimes they even make some money by following a hobby. Passage 1
Dear Amy,
My special hobby is picking up rubbish.

Drink plenty of water or warm soup. When you’re sick, your body loses water, so drinking water helps you stay hydrated (含水的). Warm soup can also make your throat feel better if it’s sore. Avoid cold drinks or snacks with much sugar. They might not help.

Passage 6
Fun activities are important in our lives. However, they have both good and bad sides.
The good sides of fun activities are great. First, they make us happy. Playing ball games with friends makes us laugh. Second, they help us make friends. In a reading club, we can meet other people with the same hobby.
The bad sides of fun activities are not far away. First, they can be dangerous. For example, it’s easy for us to ignore the risks of some sports. We may get hurt if we are not careful. Also, some fun activities can make us depend on them too much. Take playing video games for example, if we play them all the time, we will find it hard to do other things.
So what can we do? We should have fun in the right ways. We should be careful when we take part in some sports. We must be aware of the risks if we ignore them. Also, fun activities can make us happy. They can also encourage us to try new hobbies, so we won’t get bored with certain fun activities all the time. This way, we can have fun and learn.
21.What are the good sides of fun activities from Paragraph 2?

Passage 7
25.What is the most popular “guzi” among kids?

B.why teenagers love “baji”
C.the problems caused by collecting “baji”
D.how to start collecting “baji”
28.What’s the main purpose of this passage?
A.To explain why teenagers are crazy about Goods.
B.To introduce different kinds of famous cartoons.

Passage 8
根据短文内容,从四个选项中选出符合题目要求的一项。
As a middle school student, keeping healthy is very important. But many teenagers have some bad habits that are harmful to their health.
First, many students spend too much time looking at screens, such as mobile phones and computers. This can cause eye pain and reduce the clarity of their vision. To protect your eyes, you should rest your eyes every 20 minutes and look at something far away. Also, you shouldn’t use your phone right before going to bed, as the blue light can make it hard to fall asleep.
Second, some students are careless when doing sports. They may get hurt because they don’t warm up properly or wear the right clothes. If you get a cut, you should clean it with clear water first and then put a bandage (绷带) on it. If you suffer from severe pain, you could go to the hospital at once.
Third, the environment also plays a role in our health. For example, air pollution can make us feel sick. We should try to plant more trees and avoid staying in places with bad air for too long.
Finally, having a healthy diet is necessary. You should eat more vegetables and fruit, and you shouldn’t eat too much sweet food. Remember, small changes can make a big difference to your health.
29.According to the passage, what should you do to protect your eyes?

A.How can you keep healthy?
B.How often do you exercise?
C.Should you exercise while you feel sick?
D.Can exercise help patients feel better?

Passage 11
The rise of AI doctors is not like something from science fiction anymore. It’s really happening now. In different parts of China, AI doctors are bringing big changes to the medical field.
Passage 13
As the weather changes from day to day, sometimes it’s impossible to avoid having a cold. There are some natural remedies (疗法) and they can help you feel better when you have the common cold.
If you have a cold, you should drink something warm. Add honey and lemon to hot water or tea. You will keep warm while you’re drinking tea. A cup of ginger (姜) tea helps the blood to move more quickly and makes you sweat through your body.
Garlic is a super food. Garlic helps to fight off germs when you eat it daily. It can reduce the number of colds you get each year and shorten (缩短) the duration (持续时间) of a cold.
It is common to have a cold, and Mother Nature’s remedies will be there for you to lower your pain when you need to fight against that cold!

B.why the Gentiana’s flower closes its petals
C.how the Gentiana’s flower encourages bumblebees
D.what Wang Qingfeng thinks of the study
Passage 15
A hobby can be almost anything a person likes to do in his free time. Hobbyists keep pets, build model ships, watch birds, climb mountains, grow flowers, fish, ski, skate and swim. Hobbyists also paint pictures, attend concerts and plays and perform on musical instruments. They collect everything from books to butterflies, and from coins to stamps.
People have hobbies because these activities offer enjoyment, friendship, knowledge and relaxation. Sometimes they even make some money by following a hobby. Hobbies help people relax after hard work, and provide a balance (平衡) between work and play. Hobbies also offer more interesting activities to persons who have retired (退休). Anyone, rich or poor, old or young, sick or well, can follow an interesting hobby.
Hobbies can help a person’s mental (精神的) and physical health. Doctors have found that hobbies are helpful for patients to recover (恢复) from physical or mental illness. Hobbies give patients something to do, and provide interests that keep them from thinking about themselves.
In early years, most people were too busy making a living to have many hobbies. But some persons who were free enjoyed hobbies.
People today have more time than before for hobbies. Machines have reduced the amount of time they must spend on their jobs. More people are retiring than before at an earlier age. Those who have developed hobbies never need to worry about what to do with their free hours.

Passage 16
Hello, I’m Zoe. When I was a kid, my grandma taught me about gardening. We planted carrots, strawberries, and roses in her yard, and it was always so much fun! Over the years, gardening has brought our family closer and created many sweet memories.
Gardening is interesting, but it isn’t always easy. Some mistakes, like overwatering the plants, not giving them enough sunlight, or forgetting to take care of the soil (土壤), can make me feel sad. However, I always learn from them. Whenever I face difficulties, I read books and ask other gardeners for help. Day by day, I have become better at gardening.
Gardening is more than just a hobby for me. We can get fresh food from the garden. The tomatoes taste better than those from the market. When I’m in the garden, I forget about everything else. Caring for plants, feeling the soil, and watching them grow bring me peace and joy.
Gardening also provides (提供) me with a real way to protect the environment. We collect rain to save water, see bees visit our flowers, and improve the health of soil. It makes me feel deeply connected to wildlife and our planet. And gardening is like painting with nature. I can design (设计) my garden and create a beautiful space. Every time I work in the garden, I feel like an artist!
