With objects ranging from small pocket watches to⑭ clocks over one metre in height (8), each of these requires its own unique method of restoration.

4.The only sound to break the silence in Wang Jin's workshop is the chiming melody of the repaired and polished clocks. To Wang Jin it is the most beautiful music in the world. Now, after eight months of endless adjustments, the time has finally come for Mr Wang to wind up the gigantic⑱ clocks that_date_back_to_the_time_of_Emperor_Qianlong (11). The intricately fashioned objects that_have_stood_still_for_centuries_ (12)instantly⑲ come back to life⑳: water flows, boats sail, dogs bark, chickens flap their wings and a woman starts to spin. It is a truly aweinspiring moment. It is suddenly clear that when the clock masters say that“these antiques have lives” (13), it is neither an exaggeration nor a metaphor (14).

This is a race against time that_can_never_be_won !(19) Nonetheless,Mr Wang remains optimistic about the future of these timepieces. Following_in_the_footsteps_of_his_own_teacher_all_those_years_ago (20), Mr Wang has now passed on his skills to the new members, who_will_take_on_many_of_the_future_repairs (21).What's more, inspired_to_follow_in_his_father's_footsteps (22),Mr Wang's son now has also taken up repairing antique clocks. This new generation of artisans will not only help preserve traditional skills; the innovation they_bring_to_the_craft (23) will also ensure that_the_art_of_clock_repairing_stands_the_test_of_time (24).

Yet inside the hidden courtyards of Xi San Suo, there is something timeless about the way Mr Wang and his colleagues sedately piece_together_the_past_with_skilful_hands_and_modest_hearts (26). It is as if they have become one with their craft and with the history of the country (27).

Instead of the students who wake up late, party all the time, and study only before exams, many colleges are full of students with pressing schedules of not just classes and activities, but real jobs, too.
This isn't a temporary phenomenon. The share of working students has been on the rise since the 1970s, and onefifth of students work year round. About onequarter of those who work while attending school have both a fullcourse load and a fulltime job. Such jobs can also be critical for developing important professional and social skills that make it easier to land a job after graduation. With many employers looking for students with alreadydeveloped skill sets, onthejob training while in college can be the best way to ensure a job later on.
But it's not all upside. Even fulltime work may not completely cover the cost of tuition and living expenses. That means that though they're sacrificing time away from the classroom, many working students will still graduate with at least some debt. And working full time can reduce the chance that students will graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes.
There is little reward for attending but not finishing college. Students who end up leaving school because of difficulty in managing work and class are likely to find themselves stuck in some of the same jobs they might have gotten if they hadn't gone at all. The difficulty of working too much while in school can create a cycle that pushes students further into debt without receiving any of the financial or career benefits.

根据第一段中“In colleges around the country, most students are also workers.(在全国的大学里,大多数学生也是工人)”和第二段中“Instead of the students who wake up late, party all the time, and study only before exams, many colleges are full of students with pressing schedules of not just classes and activities, but real jobs, too.(许多大学里挤满了学生,他们的日程安排很紧,不仅有课程和活动,还有真正的工作,而不是那些起得很晚、总是聚会、只在考试前学习的学生)”可知,在大学里面,多数的学生除了上课,他们还工作。
根据第三段最后一句“With many employers looking for students with alreadydeveloped skill sets, onthejob training while in college can be the best way to ensure a job later on.(很多雇主都在寻找那些已经掌握了技能的学生,所以大学期间的在职培训是确保以后找到工作的最好方法。)”
根据最后一段“The difficulty of working too much while in school can create a cycle that pushes students further into debt without receiving any of the financial or career benefits.(在学校工作太多的困难会造成一个恶性循环,使学生进一步陷入债务,却得不到任何经济或职业上的好处)”可知,在校期间工作太多可能对学生的财务或者职业发展并无益处。

Dear_Linda,
I am more than glad to learn that you like to take home some art crafts with Chinese characteristics for your family and friends. Here comes my advice.
I would like to recommend to you two typical Chinese art crafts — china and paper cutting. First, it's a good idea to buy a set of china tea cups, which have been popular with Chinese people for thousands of years and also enjoy a good reputation worldwide. Besides, paper cutting, a delicate craft which needs creativity and careful work, is also a kind of traditional Chinese folk art. I'm sure your family and friends will be fond of the gifts.
