The choice of the smartphone provides valuable information about its owner.
This is one of the findings of a study conducted by Heather Shaw, from the University of Lincoln's School of Psychology.Miss Shaw and her fellow researchers conducted two studies of personality differences between iPhone and Android smartphone users.
In the first study the researchers asked 240 participants to complete a questionnaire about characteristics they associated with users of each smartphone brand. In the second study they tested these stereotypes against actual personalities of 530 Android and iPhone smartphone users.
The results of the first study show that Android users are thought to have greater levels of honesty, humility, agreeableness and openness but that Android users are seen as less outgoing than iPhone users.
The results of the second study show that most of the personality stereotypes do not occur in reality,as only honesty and humility are found in greater amounts among Android users.
However, they do find that women are twice more likely to own an iPhone than an Android Phone. When researchers measured the characteristic “avoidance of similarity” which describes whether people like having the same products as others,Android users avoided similarity more than iPhone users. Finally,iPhone users thought it was more important to have a high status phone than Android users.
Heather explained,“This study provides new insights into personality differences between different types of smartphone users. The smartphone choice is the most basic level of smartphone personalization, and even this can tell us a lot about the user.Imagine how personalities relate to the applications people download if we further research. It is becoming more and more apparent that smartphones are becoming a mini digital version of the user, and many of us don't like it when other people use our phones because it can reveal so much about us.”

Simple computers date back thousands of years to the Chinese abacus, consisting of rows of beads on a wooden frame used for counting. The modern computer dates back to 1946,when the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Calculator (ENIAC) was invented. In 1973,the U.S.Department of Defense developed the Internet so all of its own computers could be connected;in 1990 the World Wide Web was born. The rapid development of technology has resulted in the computers we use today, and those too are changing as we speak.
You can do many things on a computer. You can create and print letters or reports for school, and save those documents in case you need them later;you can watch movies, listen to music and play video games. The Internet allows people to visit different websites, send each other emails, shop online and pay bills electronically. Some people even work or receive schooling through their home computers.
The most common types of computers used are desktop, laptop and handheld computers.Desktop computers stay in one place, and their parts are contained in a case that sits beneath the monitor.Laptop computers are lightweight and small enough to be carried by users who need computers and the Internet access with them in different places. Handheld computers include personal digital assistants, small video gaming devices and mobile phones.
While computers make life convenient and are considered positive to society, there are negative aspects of computer use that kids and their families should consider.Computer viruses are harmful programs that damage information and can stop your computer from working properly. The Internet presents risks for young people, too. The information you share is not private. Some kids use their computers so much that they don't want to do anything else.
