Internet Makes Travel Easier
The Internet has greatly simplified my travel experiences. Last summer, I planned a trip to Xi’an entirely online. Using apps, I booked train tickets, reserved a hotel near the Bell Tower, and even bought entrance tickets to the Terracotta Warriors Museum in advance. What’s more, real-time navigation helped me avoid traffic jams, and online reviews guided me to authentic local restaurants.
However, to make the most of digital tools, I’d like to offer two suggestions. First, always double-check information from official sources, as some websites may provide outdated details. Second, don’t rely solely on your phone — download offline maps and keep emergency contacts saved in case of poor network.
Thanks to the Internet, traveling is not only easier but also more enjoyable!
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him. After listening to Jane, Tom readily accepted her idea. The big cleaning plan began. Jane collected the clothes from the sofa and began to do the laundry. Meanwhile, Tom was busy cleaning the floor back and forth with all his strength, really aware of what tiring work his Mum had at home! One hour later, the cleaning work was finally finished. They even prepared a simple breakfast for Mum. With everything ready for the big moment, they knocked at their mother’s bedroom door excitedly.
“Happy birthday, Mum!” Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door. Confused and surprised, Mum stood frozen. When Mum realized what had happened, a warm current rose in her heart. Staring at the clean floor and the washed clothes, she was moved to tears and hugged them tightly. “It is the best birthday gift I have ever had!” Mum said proudly. Around 11 a.m., another surprise — the cake that Dad had ordered — arrived as well. Mum took out her smartphone, took a picture of the three of them eating the cake happily, and sent it to Dad. What an unforgettable birthday for her!

Best Places to Visit for a Perfect Getaway
Spring is the golden season for traveling, with mild weather, blooming scenery and fewer crowds in many top destinations. Combining traveler feedback, professional weather analysis and travel experience, we’ve picked four amazing places that shine in spring, each offering a unique and unforgettable journey for different types of travelers.
Costa Rica
March and April bring consistent sunshine to Costa Rica, with daytime temperatures ranging from 25℃ to 32℃—ideal for outdoor adventures. Travelers can challenge themselves with thrilling whitewater rafting on the country’s rushing rivers or explore the lush rainforests on guided hiking trails, where exotic birds and colorful plants are everywhere. Note that spring falls in Costa Rica’s peak tourist season, so it’s wise to book hotels and tour tickets at least three months in advance to avoid disappointment.
Yellowstone National Park, USA
As the winter snow melts gradually and the temperature rises, Yellowstone National Park comes back to life in spring. Baby animals such as deer, bison and wolves step out with their parents, making it a paradise for wildlife lovers. Hikers can walk on the well-maintained trails, keeping an eye out for grizzly bears and black bears that wake up from hibernation with their cubs. The fresh air and the sound of flowing water also make spring the perfect time to enjoy the park’s natural beauty without the summer crowds.
Puebla, Mexico
Located in central Mexico, Puebla is a city full of history and flavor, and spring is the best time to visit before the rainy summer arrives. As a UNESCO World Heritage City, it boasts stunning colonial architecture, including the famous Templo de Santo Domingo with its magnificent baroque design. Visitors can wander around the lively central square, visit world-class art museums, and taste authentic Mexican cuisine—especially the city’s signature mole poblano, a rich and spicy sauce that’s known worldwide. The dry and warm spring weather makes it easy to explore every corner of this charming city.
Lake Tahoe, USA
Straddling the border of California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is a year-round destination, but it’s exceptionally peaceful in spring. By mid-April, the ski resorts on the mountains have closed for the season, and the summer boating and camping crowds haven’t arrived yet. Travelers can hike along the Tahoe Rim Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the crystal-clear lake and snow-capped mountain peaks. However, it’s important to keep in mind that spring temperatures here are much cooler than in other spring destinations, with daytime highs often below 20℃ and chilly nights.
21. What do the four destinations have in common?
A. They all have a rainy spring season.
B. They are all ideal to visit in spring.
C. They all lie in the United States.
D. They all charge high tourist fees.
22. If you are a food and history lover, which place should you choose?
A. Costa Rica B. Yellowstone National Park
C. Puebla D. Lake Tahoe
23. What special reminder does the author give to travelers going to Lake Tahoe?

B. Prepare proper clothes for cool weather.

David Thompson sat on a hard bench behind the long narrow desk and watched the flies fly lazily in the sun. The drone of the younger boys reading letters and the older boys reciting Latin verbs made him sleepy. David had to force his eyes to stay open. He wanted to learn something new.
He looked up at the schoolmaster’s high desk in the front of the room. The new teacher, Mr. John Adams, was from Harvard College. David’s father had been impressed with him. The boys had already had several other teachers, but none of them seemed to inspire David. So far, there was nothing to show that this one was special, though he’d only been there two days.
“It’s too hot to sit and memorize lessons,” the schoolmaster said. “We’ll move outdoors for the next part of our lesson.” He led the group of boys into the schoolyard. “You younger boys, dig for grubs and beetles (幼虫和甲虫). Count their feet. See if you can describe their shells (壳).”
David watched the teacher surrounded by laughing young students. No one had ever used the schoolyard itself for a classroom. “What next?” he thought. Soon he didn’t have time to think about the younger boys, for he was running after butterflies and dragonflies himself.
David and his friends liked this new way of learning.
“It will be a clear night tonight. Go outside and look at the sky,” said the schoolmaster. “Look at the stars ad notice their brightness and the patterns they make. These patterns have names from Greek mythology (神话), names like Orion, Aries, and others. Tomorrow we will learn about the ancient stories on them.”
“How is the new schoolmaster?” asked David’s father that evening, when David announced he was going out to look at the sky.
“He’s different from any schoolmaster we’ve had,” David admitted. “He seems interested in everything around him, and he wants us to be curious too. He even used the schoolyard as a classroom.”
“So Mr. John Adams and his new ways make school useful to you after all,” joked David’s father.
“I believe he has,” said David. “I know I won’t forget the lessons he has taught us.”
24.What does the underlined word “drone” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Clear speaking voices. B.Low dull sounds.
C.Enthusiastic responses. D.High spirits.
25.Which statement shows that the new schoolmaster understood the children?
A.“It’s too hot to sit and memorize lessons…”
B.“See if you can describe their shells…”
C.“Go outside and look at the sky…”
D.“Tomorrow we will learn about the ancient stories…”
26.From paragraph 8, we can learn that .
A.David’s father had met the new schoolmaster
B.David had thought poorly of school before
C.David’s father was not satisfied with the new ways
D.David had shown his father his homework
27.What is the main idea of this story?
A.Science is all around us.
B.School provides us with the best education.
C.There is more than one way to learn.
D.Homework is an important part of education.

People’s voices frighten wildlife even more than the snarls (低吼) of lions, suggesting that we are the scariest animals. Giraffes, elephants, and more than a dozen other species of animals in a South African wildlife reserve ran away from loudspeakers twice as often when they heard the sounds of humans compared with those of lions, found by a study led by Michael Clinchy at the University of Western Ontario in Canada.
“This is a protected area, so these animals should not be fearful of us,” he says, “but if you’re a wildlife tourist, or a poacher (盗猎者), or whatever, you’re all going to be regarded as the same thing. The presence of the human is equally dangerous, regardless of what type of human you are. ”
Clinchy and his workmates set up loudspeakers and cameras on trees 10 meters away from animals paths near 21 waterholes in Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa, which hosts one of the largest remaining lion populations in the world. When animals approached the waterholes, the speakers automatically (自动地) played recordings. These included men and women speaking calmly in local languages, lion snarling, gun shots with or without barking dogs and the calls of regional birds. The researchers found that wildlife except lions ran around in response to human voices more than to any other sounds, and were also 40 percent quicker to escape.
The findings highlighted the damaging impact that our presence could be having significant ecological consequences. Even so, human voices could lead to positive outcomes as well. They might prevent wildlife from entering crop fields or farms.
28.Why are some animals fearful of human beings?
A.Human beings are too sociable.
B.Human beings are the strongest in the world.
C.Human beings may have caused great damage.
D.Human beings can make the loudest voice in the world.
29.What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A.There are a total of 21 waterholes.
B.The recordings contain various sounds.
C.It has the largest remaining lion populations.
D.Local people’s activities are easy to be recorded.
30.Which animals responded to human voices least?
A.Elephants. B.Giraffes. C.Dogs. D.Lions.
31.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.The protection of wildlife. B.The influences of human voices.
C.The significant ecological outcomes. D.The damaging impact of our presence.

The Hidden World of Relaxation: How Your Body and Mind Recharge
Have you ever felt completely exhausted after a long day of study, only to find yourself refreshed after a good night’s sleep or a relaxing weekend? This isn’t just a feeling; it’s a complex biological process. Understanding how our bodies and minds relax can help us manage stress and improve our overall well-being.
Relaxation is the body’s natural way of recharging its batteries. When we are stressed, our body produces hormones like adrenaline, which prepares us for “fight or flight”. While useful in short bursts long-term stress can be harmful. True relaxation, however, shifts our body into the “rest and digest” mode. During this state, our heart rate slows, our breathing becomes deeper and more regular, and muscle tension decreases. This process is essential for repairing tissues and strengthening our immune system.
Our brain activity also changes significantly when we relax. Instead of the active, problem-solving beta waves, the brain produces more calming alpha waves. This is often when creativity flourishes. Have you ever had a brilliant idea while taking a walk or shower? That’s your relaxed brain at work! Furthermore, relaxation is crucial for memory consolidation — the process of transferring new learned information from short-term to long-term memory. This is why getting enough sleep and taking breaks are vital for students; it helps solidify the knowledge gained from a day of lessons.
However, modern life, with its constant notifications and busy schedules, can make it challenging to achieve deep relaxation. Simply watching TV or scrolling through social media might feel like relaxing, but these activities often keep the brain stimulated. More effective methods include deep breathing exercises, spending time in nature, listening to calm music, or practicing mindfulness. These activities actively encourage the physiological changes needed for true recovery.
Learning to relax effectively is not a sign of laziness but a skill for sustainable health and productivity. By scheduling regular periods of genuine relaxation, we allow our bodies and minds to recover, ensuring we have the energy and focus to face future challenges.
32.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To explain the dangers of modern technology.
B.To discuss the biological importance of relaxation and how it works.
C.To compare different methods of studying for students.
D.To argue that sleep is the only effective form of relaxation.
33.What happens to the body during the “rest and digest” mode?
A.The heart rate increases and breathing becomes faster.
B.The body produces more adrenaline for action.
C.The heart rate slows and muscle tension decreases.
D.The brain stops processing information completely.
34.The author mentions “having a brilliant idea while taking a walk” to illustrate that ___________
A.a relaxed brain can be more creative
B.walking is the best form of exercise for students
C.stress is necessary for generating good ideas
D.we should avoid traditional problem-solving methods
35.According to the author, why scrolling through social media might not be truly relaxing?
A.Because it requires a high-speed internet connection.
B.Because it is a waste of time and should be avoided.
C.Because it keeps the brain stimulated instead of calming it down.
D.Because it prevents people from communicating face-to-face.

How to add green tech to your home
Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally friendly products. The idea is by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet. 36
Install smart light bulbs
One quick way to reduce energy use is to switch all your light bulbs to energy-efficient versions called smart bulbs and use a virtual assistant to control them. These bulbs tend to use about 7 to 9.5 watts of power yet provide the same amount of light a 60-watt ordinary bulb offers. 37 Just use your phone to shut them down.
38
Smart plugs are a great option, too, for controlling devices like televisions, coffee makers, or almost anything that plugs into a wall socket to work. Devices like these use energy just by being plugged in, so using your phone or virtual assistant to turn the plugs on or off as needed helps stop energy drain in its tracks.
Upcycle or recycle your old tech
Tech is everywhere in our homes, and when a device gets old, we tend to replace it with a newer, better, faster version. It’s okay to get the latest device, but why not reuse and repurpose the older ones? For example, you can upcycle your old computers and laptops by repurposing them into home security monitors. Got an old Android phone? 39
It’s not hard to start adding green tech to your home. 40 Once you start, you’ll quickly see how convenient green tech can be and how easy it is to start using it.
A.Add smart plugs everywhere
B.Forgot to turn off the lights?
C.Anyone can achieve it easily.
D.Upcycle it into a remote control for your TV.
E.Upcycle it instead of throwing it into the dust bin.
F.The real difficulty is in deciding to take that first small step today.
G.Below are several quick and easy ideas you can start using today.

When the shrill (尖锐的) ring of the phone echoed (回响) through the living room, Jane was still sleeping. She slowly opened her sleepy eyes and looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was already nine o’clock! Though still sleepy, Jane knew she had to get up because her mother had been working in her office day and night for several days, and she couldn’t expect her younger brother Tom, who was sleeping like a pig, to answer the phone. She quickly put on a coat and dashed into the living room. As she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warm greeting, “Good morning, my dear!”
It was the voice of her father, a seaman who seldom returned home due to his duties, earning money to support the family. On hearing her father’s voice, Jane’s sleepiness disappeared.
Born in a not-so-rich family, Jane and Tom felt the stress of life, but they were happy to enjoy the family atmosphere (氛围). At school, they were straight-A students and took part in various after-school activities, earning the pride of their parents.
“Good morning, Dad. Why are you calling so early on a weekend?” Jane asked, pretending to be slightly annoyed. “Tom and I have been very nice recently.” “My dear, today is your mother’s birthday. I have ordered a cake online and it will arrive at our doorstep in the late morning. Do remember to take the cake. It is my surprise for your mother.”
Upon hearing her father’s words, Jane felt a twinge of embarrassment (尴尬). How could she have forgotten such an important day!
While chatting with her father, Jane’s eyes wandered around the room, and she saw a lot of dirty clothes scattered (散落) on the sofa. The floor hadn’t been cleaned for a few days, since her mother had been too busy with work to deal with such housework.
Looking at the clock again, Jane realized she still had enough time to prepare a surprise for her mother.
“Well, Dad, now I’m going to wake Tom up. We will give Mum a surprise, too!” Jane said and hung up the telephone.
Jane hurried to Tom’s room and shared her plan with him.

C.There is more than one way to learn.
D.Homework is an important part of education.
C

A
Best Places to Visit for a Perfect Getaway
A. Book accommodation months ahead of time.
B. Prepare proper clothes for cool weather.
C. Keep a safe distance from wild animals.
D. Avoid hiking alone on the mountain trails.
【答案】21.B 22.C 23.B
根据文章开头 “Spring is the golden season for traveling... we’ve picked four amazing places that shine in spring”,以及每个目的地介绍中均明确提及春季的游览优势(如 Costa Rica 的晴好天气、Yellowstone 的野生动物、Puebla 的干暖气候、Lake Tahoe 的静谧氛围),可推知这四个目的地的共同之处是都非常适合在春季游览。
根据 Lake Tahoe 部分的最后一句 “it’s important to keep in mind that spring temperatures here are much cooler than in other spring destinations, with daytime highs often below 20℃ and chilly nights”,可知作者的特别提醒是该目的地春季天气偏凉,因此游客需要准备适合凉爽天气的衣物。

【答案】32.B 33.C 34.A 35.C
通读全文,结合第一段“Have you ever felt completely exhausted after a long day of study, only to find yourself refreshed after a good night’s sleep or a relaxing weekend? This isn’t just a feeling; it’s a complex biological process. Understanding how our bodies and minds relax can help us manage stress and improve our overall well-being.(你是否曾在长时间的学习后感到筋疲力尽,但经过一夜的睡眠或一个放松的周末后,又感到精神焕发?
根据第二段中“True relaxation, however, shifts our body into the “rest and digest” mode. During this state, our heart rate slows, our breathing becomes deeper and more regular, and muscle tension decreases.(然而,真正的放松会使我们的身体进入“休息和消化”模式。在这种状态下,我们的心率减慢,呼吸变得更深、更有规律,肌肉紧张度降低)”可知,在“休息和消化”模式期间,心率减慢,肌肉紧张度降低。故选C项。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Our brain activity also changes significantly when we relax. Instead of the active, problem-solving beta waves, the brain produces more calming alpha waves This is often when creativity flourishes. Have you ever had a brilliant idea while taking a walk or shower?(当我们放松时,我们的大脑活动也会发生显著变化。大脑不再产生活跃的、解决问题的β波,而是产生更多平静的α波,这时创造力往往会蓬勃发展。你有没有在散步或洗澡时有过绝妙的主意)”可知,作者指出,当我们放松时,我们的大脑活动也会发生显著变化,创造力会蓬勃发展。而提到“散步时想到一个绝妙的主意”就是通过举例的方式来说明放松状态下的大脑更有创造力。故选A项。
根据倒数第二段中“However, modern life, with its constant notifications and busy schedules, can make it challenging to achieve deep relaxation. Simply watching TV or scrolling through social media might feel like relaxing, but these activities often keep the brain stimulated.(然而,现代生活充满了不断的通知和繁忙的日程安排,这使得人们很难达到深度放松的状态。简单地看电视或浏览社交媒体可能会让人感到放松,但这些活动往往会刺激大脑)”可知,作者认为浏览社交媒体可能不会让人真正放松,是因为它会刺激大脑,让大脑保持兴奋状态,而不是让它平静下来。故选C项。

【答案】36.G 37.B 38.A 39.D 40.F
36.根据前文“Green tech involves combining technology and science to create environmentally friendly products. The idea is by using products and services in the home to reduce energy consumption, waste, or harmful effects on the environment, we can all help the planet.(绿色科技是指将技术和科学相结合,创造出对环境友好的产品。这个想法是通过在家里使用产品和服务来减少能源消耗、浪费或对环境的有害影响,我们都可以帮助地球)”可知,本文的主题是介绍绿色科技,以及在家里使用绿色科技来减少能源消耗、浪费或对环境的有害影响,所以G项“Below are several quick and easy ideas you can start using today.(下面是几个快速简单的方法,你可以从今天开始使用)”承接上文,进一步提出本文主题,引出下文。故选G项。
37.根据前文“These bulbs tend to use about 7 to 9.5 watts of power yet provide the same amount of light a 60-watt ordinary bulb offers.(这些灯泡往往使用7到9.5瓦的功率,却能提供与60瓦普通灯泡相同的亮度)”以及后文“Just use your phone to shut them down.(用手机关掉他们就行了)”可知,前文内容和后文无法连接,所以空处应是一个过渡句,引出下文,B项“Forgot to turn off the lights?(忘记关灯了?)”

As a traveler from Europe with a deep interest in history, my trip to China would not have been complete without a visit 56 the Wang Family Compound in Shanxi. Located about 35 kilometers from Pingyao Ancient City, it is one of the largest ancient residential buildings 57 can be found in China. Covering over 150,000 square meters, it has five courtyards and more than 300 rooms for visitors 58 (see). Walking through its alleys, I felt as if I had stepped back into the Qing Dynasty.
Many courtyards are decorated with richly painted walls and carved doors, giving the buildings a truly 59 (impress) atmosphere. When I visited there, I couldn’t stop 60 (take) photographs, as every corner seemed to tell a story.
The Gaojiaya area interested me most. The buildings there were carefully maintained, giving the community the 61 (need) space to reconnect with their traditions. The workers’ 62 (friendly) and knowledge made the visit enjoyable. It was a bit far from the city, 63 the trip was truly worth it. I learned that the Wang family was once 64 global trader, and their compound reflects that international outlook. Standing on the high walls, I began to 65 (deep) my understanding of traditional Chinese merchant culture.

a visit to... 故填to。
故填that。
故填to see。
can’t stop doing sth.

begin to do sth.

One possible version:

“Happy birthday, Mum!” Jane and Tom shouted when their mother opened the door.

①收集:collect/gather
②洗衣服:do the laundry/do the washing/wash the clothes
