Now in its third year, the competition is looking for the picture that best catches the wonder and beauty of the British countryside. There are two groups in the competition: adult, and 16 and under. The competition is open to amateur (业余的) photographers from around the world, but the pictures must have been taken in the UK. The organisers are particularly eager to hear from young photographers, and this year they hope that the winner might still be in primary school. Last year’s under 16 prize was awarded to Christopher Page from Kent for his photograph of woodland bathed in golden sunlight. Celebrated wildlife photographer Laurie Campbell, GWCT advisor Peter Thompson and GWCT publications editor Louise Shervington will judge this year’s contest. To enter the competition, email your photographs to photocompetition@gwct.org.uk before midnight, 31 May 2026. The winners will be announced in July. Further details and competition rules can be found at www.gwct.org.uk/wildlife/the-julian-gardner-awards 1. Who can participate in the photographic competition? A. Children only. B. British photojournalists. C. Anyone taking shots of British country. D. Nonprofessionals photographing British country. 2. The competition was started ______. A. in 2022 B. in 2023 C. in 2024 D. in 2025 3. Works will have to be entered by ______. A. May 31 B. July 30 C. July 1 D. August 1 B This week fresh faces crowd the campus. Seeing the sweet smiles, I share their joy, as well as their pride in becoming a member of the grand old school. The same sweet smile was all over my face, too, the day I came here two years ago. I imagined the coming three years at YYHS would be a breeze, expecting there would be friendly smart classmates as well as humorous sympathetic teachers. It was not long, however, before my rosy dream gave way to reality: tons of homework, difficult teachers, and worsening grades, among other truths. As a sophomore, I adapted myself to everything before I knew it. Chatting with my friends, I claimed that I did not like my school very much. However, when one of my middle school friends, now a City High School student, commented that YYHS is the worst choice amongst the three high schools in town for junior high graduates, I got so angry that I started a debate with him on QQ. Despite the downside, I have fallen in love with my GOS. Looking back on my progress, I owe gratitude to YYHS. The class where I have belonged for two years, the classmates who have stuck with me through thick and thin, and the great masters who have taught me love and tolerance, have all become part of my challenging but exciting adolescence. Therefore, I have a word for the freshmen. How you made your way into YYHS and whether you like it or not do not matter that much. You might, at a certain point, feel resentful about school rules, schoolmates, or even teachers and leaders, but they are all an ingredient for a real high school experience. Where could you find a problem-free school in the world, anyway? That “ideal” institute exists only in fiction or in flyers. What matters above all is, as far as I am concerned, that you have to find meaning for your everyday life. On the road to the destination, you might go astray at a certain stage, but you must not stop your steps forward. Keep exploring, Freshmen, and you will be getting, sooner or later, onto the right track. Hopefully, by the time you grow to my age and become a senior, you will still keep a brave heart and stay as determined as ever. 4. Who writes the text? A. A YYHS teacher. B. A YYHS senior. C. A parent. D. A former YYHS student. 5. Why does he write the text? A. To offer advice. B. To compare and contrast. C. To attract junior high graduates. D. To promote YYHS. 6. What did the writer do on QQ one day? A. He socialised with his friend. B. He persuaded his friend to join YYHS. C. He lost his heart to his friend. D. He argued with his friend. 7. Which would the writer agree with? A. A perfect school rewards you with good grades. B. A mistake ruins your high school experience. C. Exploration helps you to grow D. Respect towards teachers earns you a place in the best university. C A group of scientists opened a cage at dawn on Wednesday and reintroduced 15 endangered Puerto Rican parrots into the wild as part of a preservation program. The birds flew away without hesitation as they disappeared into a forest near Puerto Rico’s north coast. It was the ninth release at the Rio Abajo Nature preserve since 2016. Another 204 parrots remain at the bird shelter, and an estimated 57 to 108 parrots are believed to live in the wild nearby. The parrots released Wednesday were between 1 and 2 years old and were kept in a cage separate from the other parrots for a year. Scientists tried to simulate a natural environment in that cage, where they fed them local fruits and showed them how to identify natural enemies. The Natural Resources Department also manages another breeding (繁殖) centre at El Yunque tropical rain forest in northeast Puerto Rico. Scientists expect to open a third breeding centre soon, in the western mountain town of Maricao. The feathered friends are Puerto Rico’s only remaining native parrot. Scientists believe that as 1 million individuals of the species existed before the Europeans arrived, with numbers hitting an alarmingly low of 13 in 1975, following decades of deforestation to grow coffee and cash crops. 8. Which makes the best title for the text? A. Puerto Rican parrots are rewilded B. Parrot populations are controlled C. Scientists preserve parrots’ food source D. Farming helps parrots grow better 9. What does the underlined word simulate mean? A. study B. destroy C. reproduce D. buy 10. How many parrot-breeding centres are already there in Puerto Rico? A. 2. B. 3. C. 4. D. 5. 11. What caused the sharp fall in the number of local Puerto Rican parrots? A. Disease. B. Loss of habitats. C. The European diet. D. Lack of breeding research. D In China, raising pigs used to be mostly a backyard operation. The origin of the Chinese character for “home” means a “house with a pig in it”. That is now all changed. Since the 1980s, China has been modernising its pork industry and has upped production. The country has some 700 million pigs, half of the world population, most on factory farms. To manage such huge numbers, it is turning to new tech, including artificial intelligence (AI). The Chinese tech company Alibaba has signed a deal, worth tens of millions of dollars, with the pig feed maker, Tequ Group, and Chinese farming company, Dekon Group. The aim of the deal is to develop a pig-tracking system powered by AI. At present, wireless radio frequency tags are used, but they are expensive and time-consuming to manage. Each tag has to be fitted to each pig and scanned individually to track them. Tequ Group’s Zhang Haifeng said, “If you have 10 million pigs to raise, you can barely count how many piglets will be born on a daily basis when the due date comes.” The existing system causes real bottlenecks. In the new project, AI technology is applied in identifying numbers painted onto the animals by means of overhead cameras. The system will not only be able to count pigs and piglets, but it is expected to also provide more complex analysis. The system will be able to combine temperature readings from cameras with data on how much each pig moves every day. This will enable the system to keep an eye on the health of each animal. There will be voice recognition as well, which can record and process such sounds as pigs coughing. Zhang Sheng of Alibaba said, “For one thing, we hope to bring down production costs and achieve agricultural reform. For another, we’d like to translate AI tech into safe, tasty pork.” As the Chinese population demands more and more pork, pig farming in the country will need to get automated and meat mass-produced. AI could play a critical part in this modernisation. 12. This article is taken from a newspaper. In which section may it appear? A. Technology. B. Lifestyle. C. Health. D. Fashion. 13. What is the purpose of the deal Alibaba signed? A. To research AI’s role in e-commerce. B. To further pig farms’ efficiency. C. To export Chinese pork. D. To build pig farms overseas. 14. What is the weakness of wireless radio frequency tags? A. They are too cheap. B. They are too slow. C. They are too loud. D. They are too small. 15. Which can the new AI system watch over on a pig farm? A. Air quality. B. Light pollution. C. Pig fitness. D. Pork prices. E Things Happy People Do Every Day ____16____ Sitting down to eat as a family can seem almost impossible in today’s world, but it is worth making the effort. The resulting difficulties made it impossible to go and visit family and friends as normal. For months, I did not see my grandma; nor did I make a call to her. I did not believe I could relate well to her because of her advanced age. “Peter, your gran won’t be around forever,” Mum said one day. Please give her a call today. She misses you a lot.” To be honest, calling Gran was the last thing I would do. That evening, urged by Mother, very unwillingly, I picked up the phone receiver and slowly dialled her number on the landline. Meanwhile I racked my brains, trying to brainstorm some topics Gran might be interested in. but I ended up with a blank mind. What could I possibly talk about with an old lady who is 55 years my senior? My call got through. A familiar female voice came over from the other end. It was Gran greeting me there in her gentle manner of speaking. What I did not expect at the time was that a phone call I had discounted as worthless was to make a world of difference to me. It would open the door not only to a new friendship across generations but to a fresh attitude towards life and Gran as well. Throughout the call, Gran did most of the talking. It seemed as if the elderly lady had a million questions on her mind. My worry before the call about having nothing to say was totally unnecessary. Gran asked me about school, meals, fashion, romance and even gaming. Before I knew it, half an hour had passed. Before I hung up, Gran invited me to go and have lunch with her the next Sunday . ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Over the meal, Gran shared with me a lot of stories about her retired life. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 郧阳中学2025级高一年级上学期期末考试英语试卷 本试题卷共十页,67题,全卷满分150分。 1. The origin of the Chinese character for “home” means a “house with a pig in it”. That is now all changed. Since the 1980s China has been modernising its pork industry and has upped production. A. Technology. B. Lifestyle. C. Health. D. Fashion. 13 What is the purpose of the deal Alibaba signed? 12. A 13. B 14. B 15. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 Before I hung up, Gran invited me to go and have lunch with her the next Sunday. I agreed at once without hesitation, which made her very happy. I started to look forward to the meeting, wondering what the lunch would be like and what else we could talk about. I even prepared some small gifts for her, hoping to make her happy. The whole week, I was full of anticipation for the coming Sunday. Over the meal, Gran shared with me a lot of stories about her retired life. She told me about her morning exercises in the park, her flower-planting experience and her chats with old friends. She also told me some interesting things that happened when she was young. I listened carefully and asked her many questions. We laughed a lot during the meal. I found that Gran was such a lovely and interesting person. This lunch made our relationship closer and I cherished the time with her deeply. 词汇激活 行为类: ①欣然接受邀请:agreed at once without hesitation/accepted the invitation readily ②期待见面:look forward to the meeting/anticipate the gathering ③询问:aske/inquire 情绪类: ①高兴的:happy/pleased ②珍惜:cherish/value 【点睛】【高分句型1】I agreed at once without hesitation, which made her very happy.(运用了which引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】She also told me some interesting things that happened when she was young.(运用了that引导的定语从句,when引导的状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
