These days, teenagers are heavily influenced by the media (媒体). Many of them have watched thousands of hours of short videos.
However, several studies have shown a serious problem: today’s teenagers are short of media literacy. In other words, they have difficulty critically (批判地) thinking about the information they see. One study that was done on middle school students showed that more than 80 percent of them couldn’t tell the difference between real stories and ads that looked like news.
Stanford professor (教授) Kevin John teaches a class called Media Effects. He tries to help his students learn media literacy. The professor gave an example that shows why media literacy is important. In the example, two short videos report a snowstorm. One mainly tells the terrible road conditions. The other reports kids playing in the snow. “With a news story, short videos tell you the most important details in the eyes of the short video makers. These details mostly depend on their own opinions.” said John. “A person who has media literacy would realize that each story is just about one side of the event. But in fact, there is more going on.”
Some experts (专家) think school is the best place to teach media literacy. Others believe everyone—from parents to news directors—should help teenagers learn the skills.
As for the best time to start learning media literacy, many experts suggest the age of twelve. But some basic ideas can be taught even earlier. “It’s never too early to start learning media literacy.” John said.
24.What does the underlined word “media literacy” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.The ability to stop themselves watching short videos.
B.The ability to think about the information they see.
C.The ability to read news and ads online.
D.The ability to use the Internet.
25.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.How to develop teenagers’ media literacy.
B.When teenagers start to use media every day.
C.Why teenagers are supposed to have media literacy.
D.Where teenagers should be taught media literacy.
26.Which of the following is true according to Professor Kevin John?
A.Everyone is expected to help children learn different skills.
B.Media literacy only needs to be learned in college.
C.News directors should report the news children are interested in.
D.Children should be taught media literacy as early as possible.

The time was nearly 10 o’clock at night, but the cold wind and rain had almost emptied the streets.
In front of a darkened store a man leaned, with an unlighted cigar in his mouth. As a policeman walked to him, he spoke up quickly.
“It’s all right, sir,” he said, honestly. “I’m just waiting for a friend. It’s a promise made twenty years ago. Long ago there used to be a restaurant here.” The man lit his cigar. The light showed a pale face with a little white scar near his right eyebrow.
“Twenty years ago tonight,” said the man, “I had dinner here with Jimmy Wells, my best friend in the world. The next morning I was to start for the West to make my fortune. We agreed that night we would meet here again exactly twenty years later, no matter how we might be or from what distance we have to come.”
“It sounds interesting,” said the policeman. “Haven’t you heard from your friend since you left?”
“Well, at first we wrote letters,” said the other. “But after a year or two we lost touch. But I know Jimmy will meet me here if he’s alive, for he was the truest old man in the world.”
“Hope your friend comes around all right,” said the policeman, passing down the street, trying doors as he went.
About twenty minutes later, a tall man hurried across the street. He went directly to the waiting man.
“Is that you, Bob?” he asked, doubtfully.
“Is that you, Jimmy Wells?” cried the man.
“Bless my heart!” shouted the new arrival, “I was certain I’d find you here. Come on, Bob; we’ll go to a place and have a good talk about old times.”
The two men started up the street. As they passed by a bright store, they turned at the same time to stare at the other’s face.
Bob stopped suddenly. “You’re not Jimmy Wells,” he shouted. “Twenty years is a long time, but not long enough to change a man’s nose.”
“It sometimes changes a good man into a bad one,” said the tall man. “You are caught, “Silky” Bob. Before we go to the police station, here’s a note for you. It’s from Jimmy Wells.”
Bob opened the little piece of paper and began to read. The note was rather short.
“Bob: I was at the meeting place on time. When you lit your cigar, I saw it was the face of the man wanted in Chicago Police Station. I couldn’t do it myself, so I went around and got my workmate to do the job. JIMMY.”
27.Why did Bob come here from the West?
A.To make money. B.To buy cigars in a store.
C.To look for a restaurant. D.To meet his best friend.
28.What happened after Bob and Jimmy lost touch?
A.Bob no longer believed in friendship. B.Bob still believed Jimmy would come.
C.Bob forgot the promise they had made. D.Bob wrote several letters but got no reply.
29.How did Bob realize the tall man was not Jimmy Wells?
A.The man’s face looked different. B.The man’s voice sounded different.
C.The man was nervous when he spoke. D.The man refused to talk about the past.
30.What happened in the story?
A.Bob was caught by Jimmy himself.
B.Bob and Jimmy became strangers over the years.
C.Jimmy forgot the promise and didn’t come along.
D.Jimmy kept his promise and did his duty as a policeman.

In recent years, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has become a popular topic online, especially among young people. It is a personality test that gives a result made up of four letters, leading to one of 16 possible personality types. Among these, the first letter is either “I” for introverted (内向的) or “E” for extroverted (外向的), which are among the most discussed personality traits.
It is commonly believed that people who are “I” persons may still behave in outgoing ways depending on the situation. For instance, when introverts spend time with close friends who are also introverted, they might become more active and social, like an “E” person. Psychologists (心理学家) explain this behavior through the concept of “masking (伪装)”, which means hiding one’s true personality in certain social situations. As the Master Class website points out, people have a natural desire to belong to a group, so they sometimes act like people-pleasers to fit in.
While using MBTI types to describe someone can be entertaining, it is important not to over analyze the results. For example, one young woman was happily creating a detailed travel plan when someone commented that she didn’t seem like a “P” person—since “P” stands for “perceiving” and is often associated with flexibility (灵活性) rather than strict planning. She responded, “Why should I let a personality test tell me what to do?” Her reaction served as a reminder that we should not take the test too seriously.
The MBTI test may show something you don’t know about yourself and can even be a fun way to break the ice when meeting new people. However, it is essential to remember that these four letters do not fully define a person. Personalities are complex and can change in different environments. After all, everyone is unique, and no test can capture the complete nature of a person.
In conclusion, the MBTI test might offer some insight into one’s character, but it is only for fun. It should not be used to judge others or limit ourselves. What truly matters is how we understand and respect each other beyond any labels.
31.What does the first letter in the MBTI result stand for?
A.Intelligent or Emotional. B.Introverted or Extroverted.
C.Interesting or Easygoing. D.Independent or Experienced.
32.According to paragraph 2, which of the following behaviors belongs to “masking”?
A.A singer shows his true feelings in his own songs.
B.A teacher is really patient when helping students.
C.A student acts like he enjoys music to join an art club.
D.A child shares his favorite toys with friends happily.
33.How does the author explain the idea in paragraph 2?
A.By giving an example. B.By telling a story.
C.By using scientific data. D.By asking questions.
34.What can we infer (推断) from the example of the young woman in paragraph 3?
A.She was not good at making travel plans at all.
B.People should follow MBTI results to do things.
C.“P” persons are always bad at making detailed plans.
D.She thought MBTI results should not control her behavior.
35.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.There are 16 different results of the MBTI test.
B.Introverts have similar behaviors to extroverts.
C.People shouldn’t take MBTI results too seriously.
D.MBTI can help people understand each other better.

NAO, the first robot able to show feelings, has been created by a European research team. 36 When it is happy, it raises its arms for a hug.
“The feelings of NAO are shown through body movements instead of facial expressions or languages,” says Lola Canamero, a computer scientist at the University of Hertfordshire. In the future, says the scientist, robots are likely to act as companions (伴侣), providing support for old people and helping people shop online. 37
NAO has been programmed to copy the emotional skills of a one-year-old child. 38 Based on these, it decides how to act in response to what is going on. The actions going with each feeling are pre-programmed, but NAO decides for itself when to show them.
39 A more independent robot will not call for help when entering a new room while a more fearful robot will show worry if it finds something in the room that may be harmful.
Canamero’s team is taking its emotional programming forward into medical uses. Part of the project has used robots in hospitals to support the roles of doctors, nurses and parents. 40 “We want to explore different roles- the robots will help children to understand their treatment and explain what they have to do. We want to help them to control their bad feelings,” she says.
A.When NAO is sad, it lowers its head and looks down.
B.We all know robots do not have feelings like humans.
C.NAO is also programmed to have different characters.
D.In such uses, expressing feelings will be quite important.
E.It can remember faces and knows the basic rules of good and bad.
F.Children might find a small robot that can understand their feelings.

五、读写综合

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题,每题答案不超过6个词。
Reading books brings with it numerous benefits giving people the chance to explore new worlds and meet new people both real and imagined. It expands our knowledge and understanding of the world around us and those far away.
To celebrate the wonderment of books and those that make them come to life, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) established 23 April as World Book and Copyright Day in 1995. However, it got its start long before that in Spain.
Setting a day to celebrate books traces its beginnings to Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andrés. In 1922, he came up with the idea as a way to honor fellow countryman author Miguel de Cervantes. Four years later, the first celebration took place on 7 October, Cervantes’ birthday, but was moved to 23 April, the date of his death, in 1930.
In 1995, the UNESCO General Conference decided to pay respect to authors and books world-wide as a way of encouraging everyone to access books. Choosing 23 April seemed a reasonable choice, besides being the date of Cervante’s death, it also happens to be the date William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died, among other prominent authors. Moreover, several distinguished authors were born on 23 April making it a symbolic date in the world literature.
Annually since 2001, one city around the world is chosen to be the UNESCO World Book Capital for a year. The chosen city is tasked with carrying out activities to encourage “a culture of reading and spreading its values in all ages and population groups in and out of the national borders.”
61.What does the underlined word “It” in the first paragraph refer to?

JIMMY.”

58.句意:然而,因为他对这门手艺的热爱,他从未想过要放弃。根据“because of his... for the craft, he never thought about giving up.”及首字母可知,从未放弃应是源于对它的热爱,love“热爱”,不可数名词。故填(l)ove。
59.句意:现在,制作一个简单的泥人只需要7分钟,而我一天可以制作30个。本句是it takes sb some time to do sth“做某事花费某人多长时间”的结构,是直接引语,所以时态用一般现在时,故填(t)akes。

【答案】例文
The Best Choice I’ve Made
Life is full of choices, big or small. Some are easy, while others require careful thought. Looking back, I find that the best choice I’ve made is joining the school volunteer team last year.
Last term, my classmates and I noticed that the nursing home near our school needed help. Though I was worried about balancing study and volunteer work, I decided to join them. Every Saturday, we visited the elderly, cleaned their rooms, and shared stories with them. Once, an old lady named Grandma Li was ill, and I stayed with her all afternoon, reading her favorite poems. Her smile as I left made me realize how meaningful this was.
This choice has changed me a lot. I have learned to be more patient and responsible. More importantly, I understand that small acts of kindness can bring huge warmth to others. Whenever I see the elderly’s happy faces, I’m sure it was the best choice I’ve ever made.
