Unit1 Animal friends 阅读选择(人与动物话题10题) 一、阅读理解 Joao, 71, lives on an island near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He doesn’t need to work, but still works as a part-time fisherman. One day, about five years ago, when he was walking on the beach, he saw a little penguin with oil (油) on its body. “If no one helps the bird wash away the oil, it may lose its life,” Joao thought. So he took the bird home and gave it a shower. Joao gave the bird fish to eat, and called it “Din dim”. The penguin soon became strong and healthy. It was able to go back to the water. After a week or two, Joao went down to the coast (海岸) and tried to free Din dim. But the penguin didn’t want to go. It stayed with Joao for another eight months, getting bigger and stronger. And Joao enjoyed being with his new friend. Then one day in February, Din dim left. When Joao found this, he cried and couldn’t eat or sleep all day and all night. But, in his heart, he hoped that the bird went back to its penguin family. Four months later, when Joao was walking home from the beach, he heard a “honking” sound—Din dim was back. Joao ran to it, and Din dim touched Joao’s face, helping clean his tears (眼泪). Later, Din dim goes back and stays with Joao every year. Where does it go? In fact, it swims about 2,500 miles to the coast of Argentina or Chile to start a penguin family and then swims back to Joao. It swims about 5,000 miles a year to be with the man who saved its life. A new study shows that by giving “people food”, you may be helping to keep your pet healthy. Many people only give their dogs dry dog food. Scientists from Finland say this diet (饮食) is not really good for our pet dogs. Scientists think foods like eggs, meat and vegetables may be better than a diet of just dog food. This is because having different kinds of food can create more kinds of microbes (微生物). They are little living things in people’s and animals’ bodies. Some are bad for us, but many are good for us. They play an important part in helping us break down food in our bodies. A total of 8,500 young pet dogs took part in the study. 4,500 of them were under 6 months old, and the rest were between 6 and 18 months old. The scientists asked owners (主人) about what foods they fed their pets and how often. When the dogs grew up, about 20% of them showed CE symptoms (慢性肠胃不适症状) such as losing weight. However, if dogs had a mixed diet while young, it was not easy for them to have CE symptoms. Dr Anna Hielm-Bjorkman said, “No one would give 12 years of the same food to a child—why should a dog be different?” 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 46.What should dog owners do according to the new study? A.Buy more dry dog food. B.Make food by themselves. C.Eat different kinds of food. D.Share “people food” with dogs. 47.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A.Where microbes live.
