Since January, Suzhou in Anhui Province has taken a series of actions to improve teenagers’ physical and mental health, and these measures are already showing strong results.
For example, at the city’s mental support center, teenagers try out a range of interesting equipment. They ride VR exercise bikes to enjoy fun virtual workouts — they can even feel like they’re cycling through forests or parks — and hit inflatable boxing bags as hard as they want to let out their negative feelings after a long day of study. These activities help them deal with stress and stay active in a relaxing and exciting way. This year alone, the center has done psychological assessments for more than 1 million teachers and students.
Miao Xunhong, mother of student Wang Zicheng, says she can see the positive influence of sports on her child. “My son has been playing basketball for two years. Since joining team sports, he has been more eager to go out, socialize and exercise even on rest days. His psychological assessment results have also improved,” she says. She also adds that sports have improved their parent-child relationship, and her son has learned resilience and reflective thinking through games. Wang agrees, saying basketball helps him make friends and let go of stress.
This year, Suzhou has also worked with local schools to build a sports talent selection system. Professional coaches visit schools weekly to co-teach physical education classes and provide after-school training. Fifth-grader Xu Guoxuan found table tennis in these classes and became a national first-grade athlete, balancing study and practice well. Coach Ding Pengman stresses that, besides professional teaching, the program raises students’ real interest in sports.

Art has the power to change people and make them explore themselves, which is proven by both real experiences and scientific studies. It not only influences our physical and mental health but also connects people and helps us grow.
To use art for public good we should understand it correctly. Chatterjee, a professor of neurology and psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, found people usually prefer their own culture’s art, but proper information can help people see unfamiliar art in a new light. He showed participants from North America and India images of art from each of those regions, and then asked them to rate the works for appeal, complexity, and likability. Providing viewers with content, artist, and technique information reduced participants’ bias for art from their own culture, especially among those with low art experience. “Art, with a little context, could bridge cultural gaps,” Chatterjee said.
Chatterjee says we need to slow down. He asks his students to examine one work of art for 15 minutes, spending 5minutes on each of the three key parts: What does it look and feel like? What feelings does it bring out? What ideas come to your mind? When doing this exercise, students are more engaged and more likely to have a meaningful experience. “We live in such a busy world, and we even don’t know how to be well present. Slowing down can be a tool for self-discovery,” he said.
Unfortunately, traditional art places like museums and opera houses have not felt welcoming to people from all backgrounds, and art can seem scary to those with little experience. Chatterjee said these people may feel they have failed if they don’t understand or enjoy art. He advises educators and health care providers to recognize people’s own feelings, and let them know there is no right or wrong way to respond to art.
8. What is a function of art according to the text?
A. It can lead to personal growth.
B. It can increase cultural differences.
C. It can help avoid mental problems.
D. It can provide interpersonal experiences.
9. What does the underlined word “bias” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Curiosity. B. Preference. C. Misunderstanding. D. Expression.
10. Why should people admire art in a slow way according to Chatterjee?
A. To find hidden value. B. To lead a meaningful life.
C. To explore themselves. D. To escape from the busy world.
11 What can be inferred from Chatterjee’s words in the last paragraph?
A. There is no standard for art enjoyment.
B. Traditional art places are not easy to reach.
C. People who don’t understand art are failures.
D. Educators should shape people’s feelings about art.
【答案】8. A 9. B 10. C 11. A

【10题详解】

In the age of TikTok, high school friendships last beyond school hours — they stay alive 24/7 on cellphones. Group chats are active late at night, likes and comments are exchanged nonstop, and posts keep teens connected. Social media has redefined how teens make friends, bringing not only great chances to interact and bond, but also new pressures: fear of missing out, digital drama, and the need to seem perfect online. The key is not to avoid or overuse social media, but to find a balance between virtual and real-world interactions.
Digital platforms help teen friendships cross time and distance. Even on weekends or vacations, group chats and social posts keep friends close. For shy teens or those with unique hobbies, online clubs let them meet people who share their interests, offering a sense of belonging. These online spaces let teens express themselves easily, building confidence for in-person relationships.
Yet, digital friendships have risks. Social media shows only the best parts of life, making teens feel left out. Small conflicts can turn into big online drama quickly, and staying online too late harms sleep and schoolwork. Friendships based mostly online often lack depth — unfollowing someone feels like ending a real friendship.
Experts offer simple advice for balance. Psychologist Jonathan Haidt says teens need face-to-face time for strong friendships. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests setting up screen-free zones like dinner tables and limiting social media use to 2 hours a day. Dr. Victor Fornari warns not to share personal details with online friends too soon.
Digital friendships aren’t good or bad on their own — how teens use them matters. By setting limits, thinking carefully about social media posts, and valuing in-person time, teens can use social media to strengthen friendships. The best connections combine virtual check-ins with real-world support. This way, teens build real and lasting friendships in the digital age.
12. What’s the main effect of social media on teens?
A. Greater digital interaction. B. Stricter friendship rules.
C. Closer relationships in real life. D. Stronger needs to prove themselves.
13. What do experts advise teens to do?
A. Avoid placing trust in their online friends.
B. Value the real-life interaction with friends.
C. Cut out screens during school days completely.
D. Set screen-free zones for 2 hours to improve focus.
14. What is the author’s attitude towards online friendships?
A. Supportive. B. Unclear. C. Negative. D. Mixed.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. Making Friends Online: A New Fashion
B. Building Connections: Social Media’s Power
C. Managing Teenagers’ Mental Pressure from Social Media
D. Balancing Online and Offline Friendships in the Digital World
【答案】12. A 13. B 14. D 15. D

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a sunny afternoon, a young boy named Liam stood on a busy street corner selling packets of tissues. His clothes were simple, and his worn-out shoes had a small hole near the toe.
Just then, a smooth, black car stopped near him. A kind-looking man, Tom, rolled down the window and asked, “How much for the tissues, young man?” “One dollar each, sir,” Liam replied politely. “I’ll take them all,” Tom said with a warm smile. He handed Liam a ten-dollar bill and drove away with the tissues. Liam’s eyes widened with joy. “Thank you, sir!” he shouted, holding the money tightly.
Feeling excited, Liam decided to buy something he wanted most: a pair of new shoes. The ones he wore were too small and hurt his feet every day. He hurried to a shoe store he had passed many times. Through the big window, he saw a perfect pair of brown shoes. They looked strong and comfortable. But the price tag said $100. Liam stopped. He leaned closer to the glass, staring at the shoes.
Tom happened to drive past the store again and noticed Liam standing by the window. He slowed down. From a distance, Tom saw the shopkeeper step out and speak gently to Liam. Then Tom saw the sadness on Liam’s face. Though Liam said nothing, Tom noticed how Liam’s fingers tightened around the ten-dollar bill and how his eyes returned to the brown shoes.
At that sight, memories rose uninvited. Tom remembered his own childhood — the days of worn shoes and the shame he once felt when help came in the wrong way. But Tom also remembered one moment clearly: a stranger had helped him, saying only, “Keep going. You’ll earn your way forward.”
Standing there, Tom finally understood. The boy did not need pity but the same respect he himself had once been given. It was at that moment that Tom made up his mind.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Tom entered the shoe store and went straight to the shopkeeper.

After paying ten dollars, Liam opened the shoe box, finding a card inside.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Tom entered the shoe store and went straight to the shopkeeper. Lowering his voice, Tom asked the shopkeeper to mark the brown shoes as on sale for ten dollars, making it a special offer for Liam, and he said that he would pay the rest. The shopkeeper was moved by Tom’s kindness. Then Tom gently placed a small note inside the box before stepping out. Soon, Liam, standing outside, noticed the new price through the window. Curious and hopeful, he saw the shopkeeper nod toward the display. Holding his ten-dollar bill tightly, he walked into the store happily.
After paying ten dollars, Liam opened the shoe box, finding a card inside. As he read, “Keep going. You’ll earn your way forward,” a wave of understanding washed over him. He realized the shoes had been made affordable on purpose, and that someone had quietly respected his dignity. His eyes softened, and he felt both surprised and grateful. No one stood nearby, yet the boy understood the care behind the action. Holding the card carefully, Liam put on the shoes, feeling stronger and ready to walk confidently into the future.

4. What can teens do at the city’s mental support center?
A. Receive psychological treatment. B. Enjoy cycling in real forests and parks.
C. Study longer in an exciting environment. D. Use VR bikes and hit bags to reduce stress.
5. What advantage has doing sports brought to Wang’s family?
A. More parent-child time. B. Less living costs.
C. Closer family relationships. D. Better family traditions.
6. What measure has Suzhou taken to pick out talented young athletes?
A. Improving students’ interest in sports.
B. Organizing citywide sports competitions.
C. Building a coach-school selection system.
D. Sending students to professional training centers.
7. Which word best describes the projects carried out by Suzhou?
A. Costly. B. Fruitful. C. Eventful. D. Traditional.

Art has the power to change people and make them explore themselves, which is proven by both real experiences and scientific studies. It not only influences our physical and mental health but also connects people and helps us grow.
To use art for public good, we should understand it correctly.
He asks his students to examine one work of art for 15 minutes spending 5minutes on each of the three key parts: What does it look and feel like?
8 What is a function of art according to the text?
A. It can lead to personal growth.
B. It can increase cultural differences.
C It can help avoid mental problems.
D. It can provide interpersonal experiences.
9. What does the underlined word “bias” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Curiosity. B. Preference. C. Misunderstanding. D. Expression.
10. Why should people admire art in a slow way according to Chatterjee?
A. To find hidden value. B. To lead a meaningful life.
C. To explore themselves. D. To escape from the busy world.
11. What can be inferred from Chatterjee’s words in the last paragraph?
A. There is no standard for art enjoyment.
B. Traditional art places are not easy to reach.
C. People who don’t understand art are failures.
D. Educators should shape people’s feelings about art.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Tom entered the shoe store and went straight to the shopkeeper.
