1. Now workers from the Root send up water.

现在来自根部的工人们送水上来。（P97）

考点精讲 send 动词，意为“送出；发出”。send up 动词短语，意为“射出；使上升”。

My sister often sends books to me. 我的姐姐经常给我寄书。

Could you send up a Coke and a salad? 可以送一杯可乐和一份色拉吗？

拓展 (1) send sth. to sb. = send sb. sth. 给某人发送/寄某物

 

 

2. The water will rise up to the Leaf through the Stem.

水会通过茎部上升到叶子处。（P97）

考点精讲 rise 不及物动词，意为“升高；上升”，其反义词 set 意为“落（下）”。rise 还可指数量、价值或数字的增加或增长。

The sun rises in the east. 太阳从东方升起。

The price of vegetables rose. 蔬菜价格上涨了。

 

 

3. It means a lot to animals and humans, though—they need it to breathe!

不过，它对动物和人类来说意义重大——他们需要它来呼吸！（P97）

考点精讲 though 用作副词，意为“可是，不过，然而”，用于为前面的句子增加对比或转折性的信息，常常被用在句子末尾。

It sounds like a lot of fun. Isn't it very difficult though? 听上去很有趣，可是这不是很困难吗？

I didn't get the job. I learnt a lot, though. 我没有得到这份工作，但是我学到了很多。

拓展 though 还可用作连词，意为“虽然，尽管”。但不能与 but 连用。

Though it is raining, we go there. 虽然下着雨，但我们还是去那儿。

 

 

4. They will take a rest.

他们将要休息了。（P97）

考点精讲 take a rest 意为“休息”，相当于 have a rest。

I'm going upstairs to take a rest. 我要上楼去休息了。

 

 

5. There are millions of plants on earth.

地球上有很多种植物。（P97）

考点精讲 millions of 意为“大量，许多”，后面跟可数名词复数。

There are millions of stars in the night sky. 夜空中有数不清的星星。

Millions of people travel to Beijing every year. 每年有数百万人去北京旅游。

拓展 million 前有不定冠词 a 或其他数词修饰时，一般要用单数形式；用在 of 短语前或表示不确定数字时，常用复数形式。
