第一节(共15小题,每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
A
If taking part in a race is one of your New Year’s goals, why not get started straight away? Here’s our pick of the best, fastest, toughest and most enjoyable UK races this January.
Lyle Mile Challenge
Fort Matilda, Renfrewshire, 1 January
For some reason, RunKeeper marks the route for this race as “easy”. Nothing could be further from the truth. A mile is never an easy distance to race, and this mile goes several steps further. Every inch of the route is uphill, starting at just above sea level near Fort Matilda train station. Once you catch your breath, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view across the water to Kilcreggan, weather permitting.
Romsey 5 Mile
Romsey, Hampshire, 19 January
There aren’t a lot of five mile events out there to choose from, so this fast and flat event attracts a large number of runners from the super-speedy to the normal-speedy like the rest of us. This popularity can make the start a bit crowded but the runners will spread out soon, allowing you to enjoy a well-supported and well-organized race in the nice area of the Broadlands Estate.
First Chance 10K
Exeter, Devon, 5 January
This 10K is fast and flat, so a good time should be possible, even if the sandy surface might not be quite as quick as tarmac (柏油路). You’ll mostly be following the various branches of the River Exe just outside Exeter. This course will be absolutely wonderful on a cold winter’s morning.
Windmill Way Wander 2025
Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, 18 January
There are options for every distance from 5K to 47K, but note that this event is not flat just because it’s on roads. Road conditions differ almost constantly, but with a generous seven-hour time limit you don’t have to rush if you don’t want to.
11. What is special about Lyle Mile Challenge?
A. It is upward and tough. B. It needs special weather.
C. It is an easy race in fact. D. It takes place near a sea.
12. Which race may offer the longest distance?
A Romsey 5 Mile. B. Lyle Mile Challenge.
C. First Chance 10K. D. Windmill Way Wander 2025.
13. What do Romsey 5 Mile and First Chance 10K have in common?
A. They are fast and flat. B. The roads are crowded all the way.
C. They are held on the same day. D. The runners should be super-speedy.
B
Winter was the worst time of year if you didn’t have a home to go to. Unfortunately I found myself in that terrible situation, by no fault of my own. Losing my job after twelve years of loyal service, then my landlord evicted me because I had no money to pay the rent. Feeling embarrassed about the situation I faced, I kept it a secret from my parents, who lived miles away.
Maybe I should have asked for help, but something in the back of my mind stopped me every time I picked up a phone, hoping everything would work out in the end. If only that were true.
In December, as happy families went shopping for Christmas, I would watch them from a shop entrance with only a thin blanket to keep me warm. On over one occasion, I would cry under the blanket (毛毯), so no one could see me. I was so ashamed. How could things have got so bad?
A few days later, the most wonderful thing happened. While the snow fell heavily and my blanket was wet through, a man approached me with a kind smile, and he said, “It’s freezing, buddy. I can’t have you staying out here tonight, especially on the Christmas holidays, as if anything happened to you, I couldn’t live with myself.”
I looked up at him and a tear came to my eye. “Why would you help me?” I replied.
The man gently placed a hand on my shoulder, and then said, “It’d be nice to have someone with me again after losing my Betty last year. And there was me thinking I was going to spend Christmas on my own.” He laughed.
There was something about him I trusted, so I took his hand. At that moment a warmth was felt from deep down inside, and I believed in miracles again.
14. What does the underlined word probably mean in paragraph 1?
A. Turned in. B. Took in. C. Helped out. D. Threw out.
15. Why didn’t the author tell his parents about his situation?
A. His parents were strict with him. B. He was confident of his future.
C. He felt ashamed of himself. D. His parents refused to help.
16 What do we know about the man?
A. He knew the author. B. He owned the shop.
C. He hated Christmas. D. He lost his loved one.
17 Which of the following best describes the author’s experience?
A. Adventurous. B. Embarrassing. C. Extraordinary. D. Challenging.
C
Geda Qawla, who is 75, is having trouble remembering words from his native Ongota language. He’s one of only five people who can still speak it. As he gets older, he finds it harder to think of the names of things like trees and birds. “I can feel it leaving me. The others try to help me remember but they are the same, they are also forgetting and there’s no one left to teach us,” he said. Geda was afraid that as the remaining speakers age and pass away, the language may disappear with them.
This is just one example of a bigger problem happening all over the world. Languages are disappearing fast, with one dying every two weeks. If things don’t change, by the end of this century, half of the 7,000 languages we have now might be gone. The ones in the most danger are those that aren’t written down and those spoken by very few people.
The main reasons for this are technology and the way the world is becoming more connected. People who speak smaller languages are being pushed to stop using them and start speaking bigger languages. More people moving to new places also contributes to this, as they leave their native languages behind and learn new ones.
However, some languages that were almost gone have been saved. This happened through long-term efforts to bring them back to life. These efforts included teaching them in schools, using them in the media, and even putting them on road signs. But for most languages, like Ongota, there isn’t enough money or support to do this.
At Arba Minch University, some researchers are trying to save the Ongota language by making a dictionary. Some young Ongota people who have had an education also want to keep their language alive. For Savà, an Italian expert who studies people and their cultures, losing Ongota would be very sad. “When a language disappears,” he says, “you lose a special way of seeing the world that can’t be replaced (取代).”
18. What can we learn about Geda Qawla?
A. He is skilled in his native language.
B. He is worried about the Ongota language.
C. He feels hopeful about the future of Ongota.
D. Young people want to learn Ongota from him.
19. What is the main reason why smaller languages become less common?
A. The aging of native speakers.
B. The absence of educational support.
C. Technological development and globalization.
D. The shortage of dictionaries for smaller languages.
20. How have some nearly lost languages been saved?
A. By building more schools for language study.
B. By editing dictionaries with researchers’ help.
C. By asking young people to stay in their hometowns.
D. By using them in education, media and public signs.
21. What does the author try to show by mentioning Savà in the last paragraph?
A. The ways to view the world. B. The efforts in language protection.
C. The importance of language. D. The role of experts in saving language.
D
“Using AI at work is great, but if we don’t slow down and think, it might make things bad for workers,” some senior workforce experience leaders talked about AI. They think AI can help people work better and be more creative. But they also worry that if we don’t plan well, it might make work less human.
There are many ways to see how good work is done, and leaders in our study focused on the importance of creativity and hard work in creating good work. Nearly 70% of leaders we spoke to believe that AI can help workers be more creative. It gives people new ideas that make their work better. However, 42% worry that if workers depend too much on AI, they might not work as carefully as they should. Being careful means being correct, doing things completely, and having different ways of thinking to make the work really good.
Perhaps the biggest worry about AI is its impact on human connection. Over a third of conversations think AI can free up time for us to have better talks and spend more time together. But not everyone is happy about this, with 41% of leaders believing AI will weaken the quality of human connections. These bosses are concerned that we might depend too much on machines, especially for important moments. Until now, what made these moments special was the personal care and understanding that come from people. They think moments without technology have a warmth and feeling that machines might not be able to give.
AI is exciting, but we need to be careful and think about how it affects workers. We should focus on making AI work with people, not against them.
22. What can we learn about using AI from the first paragraph?
A. It needs no planning in advance.
B. It can not improve creativity at work.
C. It is the only method to increase work speed.
D. It might have bad influences if not carefully used.
23. What do 42% of the leaders concern about workers relying too much on AI?
A. Workers will work with less care. B. Workers will become less creative.
C. Workers will not complete their studies. D. Workers themselves will stop thinking.
24. How did the use of AI probably influence human connections?
A. It will bring personal care and understanding.
B It will take away the warmth of human care.
C. It will depend too much on human connections.
D. It will strengthen the quality of human connections.
25. Who is the passage probably written for?
A. Workers. B. Researchers. C. Leaders. D. Teenagers.

第三部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
A. Romsey 5 Mile. B. Lyle Mile Challenge.
C. First Chance 10K. D. Windmill Way Wander 2025.
13 What do Romsey 5 Mile and First Chance 10K have in common?
A. They are fast and flat. B. The roads are crowded all the way.
C. They are held on the same day. D. The runners should be super-speedy.
【答案】11. A 12. D 13. A

16. What do we know about the man?
A. He knew the author. B. He owned the shop.
C. He hated Christmas. D. He lost his loved one.
17. Which of the following best describes the author’s experience?
A Adventurous. B. Embarrassing. C. Extraordinary. D. Challenging.

【答案】18. B 19. C 20. D 21. C

But not everyone is happy about this with 41% of leaders believing AI will weaken the quality of human connections.
B. It will take away the warmth of human care.
C. It will depend too much on human connections.
D. It will strengthen the quality of human connections.
25. Who is the passage probably written for?
A. Workers. B. Researchers. C. Leaders. D. Teenagers.
【答案】22. D 23. A 24. B 25. C

【24题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“These bosses are concerned that we might depend too much on machines, especially for important moments. Until now, what made these moments special was the personal care and understanding that come from people. (这些老板担心我们可能过于依赖机器,尤其是在重要的时刻。直到现在,让这些时刻变得特别的是来自人们的个人关心和理解。)”可知,AI可能会夺走人关心的温暖。故选B。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第一段“some senior workforce experience leaders talked about AI. (一些资深劳动力经验领导者谈到了人工智能)”和第二段第一句“There are many ways to see how good work is done, and leaders in our study focused on the importance of creativity and hard work in creating good work.
