Ryan is a good kid He gets great grades,,he plays lacrosse(长曲棍球),and he is well--liked.
So Jennifer and her husband didn't see any reason why their sixth-grade son couldn't have an
Instagram account, until Ryan posted a photo of himself holding an empty beer bottle that his
father had just finished."My husband saw the photo pop up on Ryan's account and went up the
stairs in seconds, demanding that he should take it down,"Jennifer says."I don't think my son
realized how bad his picture looked. He was trying to be funny, but he's in sixth grade!Even if
he was simply posing, that picture was inappropriate."
With the popularity of photo-sharing site Instagram,it's easy for parents to have a false sense
of security.Unlike Facebook or Twitter,Instagram is only for posting pictures and with the 13+
age requiremert and privacy feature,so it seems like an almost harmless site for children. How
much trouble could they stir up?But that's not the fact.
Shockingly, some kids are paying for attention on social media. When Paula Pryor found a
mysterious $700 charge on her credit card, the last thing she suspected it to be was payment to a
company that helped acquire"likes"on Instagram pictures."My son Hayden thought it was only
ten dollars, but it was ten dollars per'like',"says Pryor.
Often,it's not your own teen that's cause for concern-it's someone else's kid.Megan
Koster couldn't figure out why her daughter Delaney suddenly became so anxious about whether
her panty line could be seen through her jeans. Finally,Delaney said that she was worried
someone would take a photo and post it on Instagram."I don't think I would have survived
middle school if sites like this had existed back then,"Koster says.
34.What made Jennifer think her son Ryan could have an Instagram account?
A.He gained popularity in school.
B.He was skilled at using Instagram.
C.He showed interest in taking photos.
D.He was old enough and behaved well.
35.What does the underlined word"they"in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Instagram accounts.
B.Social media.
C.Pictures.
D.Children.
36.Why did Pryor's son pay the company $700?
A.To obtain the picture he liked.
B.To pay attention to social media.
C.To get his photos noticed and liked.
D.To pay the charge on his credit card.
37.What's the text mainly about?
A.Teen's problems.with Instagram.

D.Concerns for the Internet security for children.

Why do you vividly remember your first day of school or a scary movie, but forget what you
had for lunch last Tuesday?A new study suggests the answer involves surprising cells in your
brain called astrocytes.
Previously, scientists thought these star-shaped cells just provided support to neurons(
)the brain's main nerve cells that create memories. However, research published in Nature
shows astrocytes play a much more active role. They help lock in emotional memories for the
long term and could be a new target for treating memory disorders like PTSD and Alzheimer's
disease.
To test this, researchers studied mice learning to fear a specific cage where they received a
mild, unpleasant shock. They tracked a gene called Fos,which acts as a marker of cell activity
when a memory is formed.
The surprise came when the mice returned to the cage days later. While recalling the fearful
memory, their astrocytes became highly active in brain regions like the amygdala, the emotion
center. This activity was much stronger during the memory recall than during the initial scary
event.
The researchers found that after an emotional experience, astrocytes produce special
"receptors"on their surface. These receptors act like tags, marking the cells as part of an
important memory network. This process takes hours or days, which is exactly how long it takes
for a memory to become stable(稳定的),
"This is revolutionary for neuroscience,"said Maite Solas Zubiaurre,a neuroscientist at the
University of Navarra in Spain, who was not involved in the study. The long-standing belief was
that only neurons stored memories. This discovery "will bring about new methods of treating
some memory problems",potentially by targeting astrocytes to improve memory in health and
disease.
38.What's the main function of astrocytes according to the study?
A Stirring up fears.
B.Creating emotions.
C.Stabilizing memory.
D.Building connection.
39.Why did researchers track the Fos gene?
A.It controls how long memories last.
B It directly stores emotional memories.
C.It produces proteins for brain neurons.
D.It marks active cells during memory formation.
40.What is the key significance of this study on astrocytes?
A.It proves that emotional memories can be completely erased.
B.It shows that neurons are not involved in memory formation.
C.It reveals a new approach for developing memory-related treatments.
D.It demonstrates that astrocytes can create memories without neurons.

The alarm goes offl It's time to begin a day:eat the same breakfast, take the same journey to
work, see the same people, and,at the end of the day,go to bed at the same time.Slowly but
surely, your entire life becomes routine, and the world outside of this gray boredom fades to
nothing. You close yourself off to the world.
This is what existentialist(存在主义者)Gabriel Marcel called“crispation'”.For Marcel,
crispation is when everything gets stuck in habits and routines. It's the state of mind that says,
"But...I've always done it this way"when one is presented with a new opportunity.Crispation is
what says no to the call to adventure;people tend to become trapped within a "shell"that
gradually hardens and restricts them.
In some ways,we live in an age when we focus too much on habits.James Clear's Atomic
Habits has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and there are articles and videos titled "How
to Build Successful Habits."Normally, our brains need certain habitual inspiration to function
and often the most successful people are those who form strong habits. But there's also a shadow
side to habits. If we shift our view,we'll find habits look like ruts(刻板乏味的生活)and
routines become crispation.
Too many of us are doing more of the same thing we like a lot instead of trying new things.
This is especially true in middle age.People in midlife have the lowest subjective happiness
ratings for all age groups because mostly, people establish a family and live in one place. In terms
of their jobs, they have kind of reached the peak or are close to it,and they are kind of just
maintaining the present situation rather than developing.
The dissatisfied tiredness of non-improvement is often fueled by our habits and routines. So
consider finding ways to open ourselves to new experiences and connections by challenging the
comfort of our daily patterns. We should seek opportunities to exploke.Embracing change is not
just an escape from boredom, but a step toward living a life full of purpose and joy.
42.How does the author introduce the topic?
ABy defining a concept.
B.By providing an example.
C.By making a comparison.
D.By proposing a question.
43.What do people experiencing"crispation"tend to do?
A.Limit themselves in a circle.
B.Value chances to adventure.
C.Enjoy socializing with others.
D.Adapt to changes at a slower pace.
44.What does the author want to show through the widespread popularity of Clear's book?
A.People's similar reading habits.
B.People's eagerness to get out of a rut.
英语试题第7页(共11页)
C.People's shifting interest in printed books.
D.People's strong emphasis on developing habits.
45.Which of the following best expresses the main idea of the passage?
A.Good habits contribute to success.
B.Breaking habits leads to happiness
C.Maintaining routines cause midlife crisis.
D.Habits need to be balanced with change.

and grow.49When we connect with people who are less fortunate,we start to realize
that our pain is less significant.Giving to others also empowers us.It gives us a sense of
self-worth and moves us away from the hurt.

I used to believe a packed calendar means a full life.My days were51,well ahead of
time,for dinners out,exercise classes,trips to the cinema-52that I knew to be
beneficial or rewarding.
I had been determined to make work less 53 to my life:I couldn't push myself just
for work as I had so much else going on.But when the time came to 54 my plans,I found
that I had been too 55 about how much it was possible to fit into a day.And my
56,as it turned out,was not as strong as I had thought.
As my mood and energy levels continued to worsen, social occasions increasingly felt like
another 57-something I had to do,rather than something I wanted to do.Arriving to
have dinner with friends became58to a work meeting;they registered the same in my
calendar. It eventually dawned on me that scheduling far in advance was 59 me of the
opportunity to enjoy myself.I had made these plans from a 60 standpoint, without
allowing for the very real possibility that I would be 61 or tired.
Moving to Norwich helped me 62 this habit.Within months,I rediscovered the joy of
free-flowing.My days were necessarily 63,because I had fewer local friends.I was
surprised by how much I benefited from spending more time alone.I was having interesting
thoughts that I suppose would have me ifI had carried on at that breakneck pace.
My newly 65 schedule also meant that,if I finished work for the day and felt like
seeing a film,I could.I started to understand what all those self-help books meant about being
your"true self.
