A new study shows the world creates about 57 million tons of plastic pollution every year. Researchers say the amount is enough to fill New York City’s Central Park with plastic waste as high as the Empire State Building.
The researchers who joined this study examined plastic that goes into the open environment, not plastic that is properly burned or buried (埋葬). Governments fail to deal with waste properly that is a big reason why Southeast Asia and Africa produce the most plastic waste. India leads the world in producing plastic pollution, with more than 9.3 million tons a year. That number is far more than double the amount produced by the next big-polluting nations, Nigeria and Indonesia. Other top plastic polluters are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia and Brazil.
The study used AI to research plastics that were wrongly burned or just left in the open environment. In both cases, microplastics (微塑料) are spread, said Velis, the study’s lead writer. Several studies have looked at how common microplastics are in our drinking water and in our bodies. Scientists are still not quite sure how dangerous microplastics are for human health.
Some experts worried that the study only paid attention to pollution but ignored (忽视) plastic production. Plastic production is likely to rise from about 400 million tons a year to more than 1.1 billion tons. It lets out large amounts of greenhouse gas (温室气体) that makes the earth warmer. Neil Tangri, a researcher working on waste and environmental programs, said, “It’s not exact to say now all we need to do is manage the pollution better. It’s necessary but it’s not the whole story.”

C They are good for the human body. D. They hide in everyone’s body.
9. What do Neil Tangri’s words mean?
A. It’s risky to manage the plastic waste.
B. The plastic industry is in great trouble.
C. We can’t just focus on the plastic pollution.
D. We can do nothing but manage the waste better.
10. What is the best title of the passage?

C. Efforts are needed to beat plastic production.
D. Plastic industry is warming the earth quickly.
C
About 200 years ago, there were about one billion humans living on the earth. Today, there are over eight billion of us. For thousands of years, the population grew slowly, but in recent centuries, it has jumped quickly. Between 1900 and 2000, the increase in world’s population was three times greater than that during the whole previous history of humans—an increase from about 1.6 billion to 6 billion in just 100 years. In October, 2011, the world’s population reached 7 billion. Eleven years later, the number was 8 billion. It is predicted (预测) that the world’s population will be 9 billion by the mid-21st century.
This growth affects Earth’s environment, yet it also brings hope: A larger group of educated people can improve our world.
For a long time the world’s population grew quickly. However, if we look at the recent years, we can see that this situation is changing, as the population growth rate (增长率) is dropping off recently.
World history can be divided into three parts according to population growth. The first part was a very long age of very slow population growth. The second part has rising standards of living—the population went on rising quickly from the mid-20th century. Today, the second part is over, and the third part is coming; the population growth rate is falling and will go on falling to the next century.

【答案】例文1
In my opinion, studying alone is a better way to learn.
First of all, you can learn at your own pace and use your own methods. Being alone helps you stay focused on your learning. Also, studying alone helps you become more independent. When you meet challenges, you have to find solutions on your own. This not only makes you smarter but also teaches you to trust yourself.
Although studying with others can be enjoyable and you can learn from each other, it can be easy to lose focus. When you study alone, you don’t have to worry about those things.
Therefore, studying alone is the best choice for us.
例文2
I do believe studying in a group is cool because you can learn with others. When you talk and ask each other questions, it makes learning fun and helps you see things in new ways.
What’s more, studying in a group is also good for learning to work with others, which is important for later life. It makes studying less boring and more fun.
Sometimes, others might not agree with you or you might get distracted, but if everyone works together and is respectful, it’s not a big problem.
So, studying in a group is the best because it’s fun and it teaches you to work as a team.
