Unit 7 A Day to Remember-Period 3 Grammar Focus教学设计2025-2026学年人教版英语七年级下册
Unit 7 A Day to Remember
Period 3: Section A Grammar Focus (3a–3d)
Teaching Aims:
1. Language Ability:
◦ To accurately identify and produce the simple past tense forms of both regular and irregular verbs in context.
◦ To correctly use past time expressions (e.g., yesterday, last night, the day before yesterday) to frame past events.
2. Learning Capacity:
◦ To deduce the form and function of the simple past tense through guided discovery of grammar rules.
◦ To apply the tense in writing (sentence construction, passage completion) and speaking (guided dialogue) tasks.
3. Thinking Quality:
◦ To compare and contrast sentences in the simple present and simple past tense, understanding the concept of “finished time.”
4. Cultural Awareness & Life Skills:
◦ To share and inquire about personal past experiences in a culturally appropriate manner, fostering interpersonal communication.
Key & Difficult Points:
• Key Points: The formation (especially of common irregular verbs like see/saw, go/went) and the core use of the simple past tense for completed past actions.
• Difficult Points: Using the tense accurately and fluently in spontaneous spoken communication; mastering high-frequency irregular verb forms.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1: Lead-in & Discovery (7 mins)
• Activity: Grammar Detective
1. Show 2-3 contrasting pictures on PPT (e.g., Picture A: A boy plays basketball now. Picture B: The same boy played basketball yesterday).

2. Elicit sentences: “He plays basketball every day.” vs. “He played basketball yesterday.”
3. Write the sentence pairs on the board. Ask: “What’s the difference? What changed? Why did it change?” Guide students to notice the verb change (plays → played) and the time word (every day → yesterday).
4. Conclusion: We change the verb and use words like “yesterday” to talk about finished past events.
Step 2: Controlled Practice - Identification (3a) (8 mins)
• Activity: Hunt for Clues
1. Instruction: “Now, be grammar detectives! In 3a, find and circle the ‘past action’ words (verbs in the past tense). Then, find and underline the ‘past time’ words.”
2. Students complete 3a individually.
3. Pair Check & Rule Reinforcement: In pairs, students compare answers. Teacher then checks with the whole class. For each sentence, ask: “Is the verb regular (+ed) or irregular?” (e.g., went is irregular).
Step 3: Controlled Practice - Production (3b) (8 mins)
• Activity: Sentence Builder
1. Model: Demonstrate the first item clearly on the board, showing the thought process: find the subject, verb (in past tense), object, and place the time expression.
2. Students write the sentences individually.
3. Peer Assessment & Display: Invite several students to write their sentences on the board. The class checks: 1) Correct past tense verb? 2) Logical word order? 3) Correct time expression placement?
4. Answers:
1. I saw my favourite actor in a film the day before yesterday.
2. They spent a day on a chicken farm last month.
3. There were two bottles of milk on the table a few minutes ago.
4. The doctor stopped working at ten o’clock last night.
5. Ms Li met one of her friends in the street last Wednesday.
Step 4: Practice in Context (3c) (7 mins)
• Activity: Story Completer
1. Verb Prep: Quickly review the past tense of the verbs in the box as a class (learn→learned/learnt, see→saw, etc.).
2. Students read the passage and fill in the blanks independently.
3. Check & Concept Check: After giving answers (learnt; saw; walked; thought; worked; was), ask comprehension questions: “Was it a good day for the writer? Why?” (Yes, because he learnt a lot and thought it was a good day.)
