Hello, everyone, do you feel like that sometimes you can’t think of new ideas? Today, let’s talk about some simple ways to stay creative. First, explore new things daily. Your brain needs fresh materials to work with. When you find new and interesting things, it helps your imagination grow. For example, try a different type of movie this week. You might discover a great idea for your own story, and even better understand your own life. Also, always carry a small notebook for your ideas. Good ideas can come at any time, but they can also disappear quickly. Writing down ideas helps you memorize them better. Imagine you see a cloud that looks like an animal. Quickly draw it in your notebook. Later, when you look at it again, you might start a fun story. Finally, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. When you’re not worried about being wrong, you can try new things. For example, if you’re reading an English book and don’t understand a sentence, try guessing its meaning. Even if you’re wrong, you will have the chance to memorize it better later. So, go out and find new things, write down your ideas, and don’t worry about being wrong. When 15-year-old Li Yu first joined the school’s robot club, he never thought he would win a national award. But last month, he and his team won the first prize in the National Teenagers Robot Competition with their “smart home robot”.
Li Yu’s robot can do many useful things for families. It can clean the floor automatically, remind the elderly to take medicine on time, and even help children with their homework. “We got the idea from my grandma,” Li Yu said. “My grandma lives alone, and my parents are always worried about her. So we wanted to make a robot that can take care of the elderly.”
Building the robot was not easy. The team spent six months preparing for the competition. They met many problems along the way. For example, the robot often lost its way when cleaning. To solve this problem, they added a camera and a GPS module to the robot. With these devices, the robot can map the room and move around without getting lost.
Another problem was the robot’s battery (电池) life. At first, the robot could only work for 30 minutes. The team tried different kinds of batteries and finally found a high-capacity battery that can last for 2 hours. “We also asked our science teacher for help. He gave us a lot of useful advice on circuit design,” Li Yu said.
Winning the award made Li Yu and his team very excited. “This experience taught me that teamwork is very important. We couldn’t have won without each other’s help,” Li Yu said. He also hopes to continue studying robotics and make more useful robots in the future.
52.What can we infer about the inspiration for the “smart home robot”?
A.It came from the team’s dream to win the national competition.
B.It was based on the actual needs of daily life.
C.It was suggested by their science teacher.
D.It came from Li Yu’s interest in robots.
53.What does the team’s solution to the robot’s problems show?
A.They were good at using technology to solve practical problems.
B.They gave up easily when facing difficulties at first.
C.Their science teacher did most of the work for them.
D.The problems were too simple for the team to solve.
54.Which of the following best describes Li Yu’s feeling after winning the award?
A.He only felt proud of his own contribution to the team.
B.He realized the importance of teamwork and looked forward to future efforts.
C.He thought winning the award was the most important thing.
D.He decided to stop studying robotics after this success.
55.What can we get from Li Yu’s team’s experience?
A.Winning a national award is easy with a good idea.
B.Teamwork and persistence are key to solving problems and achieving success.
C.Science teachers are the only ones who can help with robot making.
D.The “smart home robot” has no room for improvement.

D
①Have you ever been burned by a freshly made molten custard bun (流沙包)? Many people say when the soft skin of molten custard bun feels cool enough to eat, the filling (馅) inside is still “burning hot”.
② ▲ They were surprised to find that the average temperature of the filling can reach 64℃ when the buns are taken out of the steamer. According to scientists, the suggested temperature for food is around 10℃ to 40℃, and food that is over 60℃ can hurt our throat.
③Why does this happen? The secret is in its filling. It isn’t just liquid (液体)—it’s a thick mix of sugar, milk, and egg yolks, which flows (流动) slowly. Because it is not exposed (暴露) to air, once heated, the thick filling keeps heat for a long time. The test shows that after a bun has been out of the steamer for 10 minutes, the temperature inside still remains 58.3℃. Even after 20 minutes, the center still stays warm.
④The temperature difference can be explained using a physics concept called specific heat capacity (比热容). Something with a low specific heat capacity doesn’t hold much heat and cools down fast. Things with a high specific heat capacity take longer to cool down. Usually, liquids hold heat longer than solids (固体). As a molten custard bun’s filling has more water and fat than its skin, it takes more time to fully cool down.
⑤To avoid being burned, it is advised that when serving such hot food, shops can add warning tips like a simple “Caution: Filling is very hot!” sign to remind people. Providing small spoons to allow customers to check the temperature before eating also helps. A little care prevents accidents and makes dining more enjoyable.
⑥For customers, next time you buy a hot bun, let it sit for at least 15 minutes. You can make a small hole on the skin with your chopstick first, letting the filling cool faster.
⑦Now you know why molten custard buns stay hot inside. Remember: the skin may lie, but the science doesn’t. Stay patient and stay safe. Your tongue will thank you for waiting!
56.Which sentence can be put in the ▲ ?
A.People always wonder why the filling stays so hot for so long.
B.Scientists did a test to find out how hot the filling could be.
C.A research team studicd how long it took to cool molten custard buns.
D.Experts warned that eating hot food quickly could be quite dangerous.
57.After being heated to 80℃, which cools down the most slowly?

56.推理判断题。根据“They were surprised to find that the average temperature of the filling can reach 64℃ when the buns are taken out of the steamer.”
故选A。
58.词义猜测题。根据“The secret is in its filling. It isn’t just liquid (液体)—it’s a thick mix of sugar, milk, and egg yolks, which flows (流动) slowly”可知它不仅仅是液体——它是糖、牛奶和蛋黄的浓稠混合物,流动缓慢,故thick意为“浓稠的”,和选项C“蜂蜜太浓了,不能从瓶子里倒出来”中的thick意义相近。故选C。

Alex, a middle school student, feels overwhelmed (崩溃) by homework and after-class activities. He often stays up late to finish tasks but still feels he’s falling behind. “I join too many clubs and lessons to please my parents.” Alex said. “But I have no time to relax or even sleep. Yesterday I forgot to hand in my math homework because I was preparing for a speech contest!”
How to manage time wisely?
Dr. Green
a psychologist
Many students have problems with time management. They always feel hard to complete all the tasks well in limited time. The key to solving this problem is not to do more, but to do what truly matters. Start by listing your priorities (优先级) and cutting out unnecessary tasks. They can help you save a lot of time you can use to relax.
Emma
a top student from Beijing
I use the “Pomodoro Technique”: study 25 minutes, rest 5 minutes. This keeps me focused. After a long period of working or studying, our brains need to have a rest for a while. Therefore, we need to schedule rest time. Also, I often say “no” to those activities that are not useful for helping me achieve my goals.
DeepSeek

Effective (有效的) time management requires clear plans. Try breaking tasks into smaller steps and set deadlines for each. For example, if you plan to finish a novel with 300 pages in one month. You can make yourself finish 10 pages every day in 30 minutes before you go to bed. It’s easier to succeed in finishing the task by doing this. Besides, use apps like calendar or to-do lists. Remember, rest is part of success.
65.Does Alex often stay up late to finish tasks?
66.Why did Alex forget to hand in his math homework yesterday?
67.According to the passage, how can Alex solve his problem?
68.Besides the suggestions above, what else do you want to advise Alex to do to manage his time better? (at least 30 words)
【答案】65.Yes./Yes, he does. 66.Because he was preparing for a speech contest. 67.By listing the priorities of his tasks/doing what truly matters, cutting out unnecessary activities, scheduling rest time, and breaking tasks into smaller steps with deadlines. 68.I will advise Alex to communicate openly with his parents about his stress. He could also delegate tasks when possible, avoid multitasking, and set realistic daily goals. Additionally, practicing mindfulness can improve his focus and reduce anxiety.
【导语】本文主要讲述了中学生Alex因课业和课外活动过多而感到崩溃,并提供了几位专家和优秀学生关于如何明智管理时间的建议。
65.根据“He often stays up late to finish tasks but still feels he’s falling behind.”可知,Alex经常熬夜完成任务。故填Yes./Yes, he does.
66.根据“Yesterday I forgot to hand in my math homework because I was preparing for a speech contest!”可知,他忘记交作业的原因是准备演讲比赛。故填Because he was preparing for a speech contest.
67.根据“Start by listing your priorities (优先级) and cutting out unnecessary tasks. They can help you save a lot of time you can use to relax.”;“Therefore, we need to schedule rest time.”;“Try breaking tasks into smaller steps and set deadlines for each.”可知,通过列出任务的优先级/做真正重要的事情,减少不必要的活动,安排休息时间,并将任务分解为有截止日期的小步骤,Alex可以解决自己的问题。故填By listing the priorities of his tasks/doing what truly matters, cutting out unnecessary activities, scheduling rest time, and breaking tasks into smaller steps with deadlines.

VIII.
We humans have been changing the world around us for a very long time. A 2024 study even found that humans in Africa may have used fire to prevent forest regrowth as early as 85,000 years ago. We change the animals around us too. Most famously turning wild wolves into dogs, maybe as early as 40,000 years ago.
And our effect on animals hasn’t stopped, right up to the present day. Because as we change the world, animals have to change if they want to survive.
For one example, consider how the roads we drive on could be changing the birds that fly over them. A study of swallows in Nebraska found that, from 1983 to 2022, the birds’ wings got shorter—probably because having smaller wings made them better at avoiding cars. The number of swallows killed by cars actually went down over the study period, even as the total swallow population increased—and most of the swallows that were killed have longer wings.
A human activity may also have led elephants to be born without tusks (the teeth of the elephants). Both male and female African elephants usually have tusks. But naturally fewer tuskless females were to be killed. So half of the female elephants were born without tusks, unlike those before.
Living close to humans may even make some animals smarter. City raccoons are better than country ones at opening bottles to get food. City raccoons have also learned to keep smaller fields so they don’t have to cross major roads, where they’re in greater danger!
Book Report
Humans have been changing the world since ancient times. Scientists found that fire may have been used to 74 in Africa 85,000 years ago and wild wolves were tamed into dogs 40,000 years ago by humans. Even today, 75 .
Swallows With Shorter Wings: From 1983 to 2022, swallows in Nebraska evolved shorter wings, leading to fewer roadkill deaths.
76 : half of African female elephants are now born without tusks—surviving by staying tuskless.
Smarter City Raccoons: City raccoons are better at opening bottles for food. They also try to avoid crossing dangerous roads!
My Reflection: These examples show how animals are rapidly changing their bodies and habits to fit this human-centered world. However, humans are not the only creatures living on the earth. So 77 .
【答案】74.prevent forest regrowth 75.our effect on animals hasn’t stopped 76.Tuskless Elephants 77.we should leave space for other species
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,通过多个案例说明动物如何通过进化或行为改变来适应人类活动对环境的改变。

76.根据“A human activity may also have led elephants to be born without tusks (the teeth of the elephants).”可知,人类对大象的影响是导致大象出生时没有象牙,可用Tuskless Elephants“无牙象”概括,首字母需大写。故填Tuskless Elephants。
77.根据“However, humans are not the only creatures living on the earth. So...”可知,此处让我们对“人类改变自然”提出一些改善的建议,结合题干可知,可以是“我们应该为其他物种留出空间”。故填we should leave space for other species。

Life in school is full of wonderful moments. As we’re about to graduate from junior high, the school is organizing a graduation photography exhibition called “The Most Beautiful Moment in Our School”. It’s a chance to share stories about our school’s special times. I picked a picture from our sports day and named it “The Exciting Moment”.
In the picture, students from different grades are cheering each other on during a running race. I picked this picture because it shows how we work together and support each other at school. Even though we’re different, we come together and help each other.

“But what happened?” Mary asked.
“There was an old tree in the garden with a branch (树枝) like a seat. Mrs. Craven often sat there, reading and talking. One day, the branch broke and she fell down. She was badly hurt and died soon. Mr. Craven locked the garden and never talked about it.”

“Can you hear someone crying?” she asked Martha.
Martha seemed pretty nervous. “No,” she answered. “It’s only the wind or the servant who works in the kitchen. She’s got a toothache. Perhaps she’s crying. I’m going to check if she needs any help.” After the words. Martha left the room quickly.
When Martha left her alone. Mary decided to explore the house. She went quietly along corridors (过道) and up and down stairs. In the silence of the house she heard again the sound of a child crying. She stopped to listen at a door, but then another door opened and Mrs. Medlock came out. “What are you doing here?” she said, and she took Mary by the arm and pulled her away. “Get back to your room at once.”

They can help you save a lot of time you can use to relax.

a top student from Beijing
I use the “Pomodoro Technique”: study 25 minutes, rest 5 minutes. This keeps me focused. After a long period of working or studying, our brains need to have a rest for a while. Therefore, we need to schedule rest time. Also, I often say “no” to those activities that are not useful for helping me achieve my goals.

My Reflection: These examples show how animals are rapidly changing their bodies and habits to fit this human-centered world. However, humans are not the only creatures living on the earth. So 77 .
