There are over 20,000 kinds of bees in the world. The most
common kind is the honeybee. Honeybees live in groups. Each group has
one queen, thousands of worker bees, and a few hundred drones. The
queen’s job is to lay eggs, while the worker bees collect food, build
the hive and take care of the young bees. Drones are male(雄性的) bees,
and their main role is to mate with(交配) the queen.

Bees are also amazing communicators. When a worker bee finds
flowers full of nectar (花蜜), it returns to the hive and performs a
special dance called the “waggle(摇摆) dance”. This dance tells other
bees where the flowers are and how far it is to them. For example, if the
bee waggles straight up, it means the flowers are in the direction of the
sun. If the flowers are nearby, the bees will dance in circles. If they are
far away, the bees will dance in 8‑shaped dance. This clever form of
communication helps the group work together easily.

▲ Climate change, harmful chemicals, and the
disappearance of natural homes are causing bee populations to become
smaller and smaller. To help protect bees, many farmers are now
planting more flowers and reducing the use of harmful chemicals. By
learning more about bees and taking steps to protect them, we can make
sure that we’ll have a healthier planet.
