W: But in Finland, it’s totally normal. See that woman leaving her baby outside the store? She believes other people will look out for her baby while she goes inside.
M: Yes. But I still can’t believe that. By the way, is it easy to find a good day care center here? My wife will return to France to look after her mom. I can’t leave my little kids at home while I’m at work.
W: Of course. Lots of day care centers here offer round-the-clock service. Parents pay a maximum of 300 euros a month for one child. What’s more, people who work at day care centers must have a university degree.
M: Sounds great.

W: They are in fairly good used condition and still wearable. So I plan to give them away.
M: That’s good.

第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Creative ideas are bringing nature into urban areas worldwide. Here are some cities that have found ways to let the plants in — benefiting people and the environment.
Liverpool
In its busy city center, Liverpool built a “living wall” to make room for nature. Due to a lack of planting space, it turned the outside of St. John’s Shopping Center into a 65-meter green area in 2020. The wall has 14,000 evergreens and helps reduce some of the pollution produced by the nearby bus station. In 2021, two bee hives (蜂房) were placed on the center’s rooftop, each housing 20,000 bees. The bees not only pollinate the wall but also support the local ecology.
Singapore
Singapore is determined to be “a city in nature”. In 2021, it started “Green Plan 2030” to make the city more sustainable. Singapore already has over 400 parks and four nature reserves. By the end of 2026, its green space will increase to 300 hectares. It has also promised to plant a million trees and further increase parkland by 50% from its 2020 baseline. The hope is that by 2030, no household will be more than a ten-minute walk from a green space.
New York City
Manhattan’s High Line is a 2-kilometer-long public park built on an old elevated railway. The railway was to be pulled down, but residents wanted to put the site to good use. A design competition in 2003 chose the idea of an above-street garden. Opened from 2009 to 2019, it is now a city greenway featuring over 150,000 plants.
Melbourne
Melbourne has embraced “vertical (垂直的) forests” to fight urban heat. In 2018, the city completed the Aurora Melbourne Central tower, a 74-story building covered with 42,000 plants from 30 native species. The green structure covers 5,000 square meters and absorbs dust and carbon dioxide from the surrounding streets. By 2024, Melbourne had approved 12 more vertical forest projects, aiming to increase urban green cover by 15% and make the city one of the world’s coolest metropolises.
21. How many bees were housed on the rooftop of St. John’s Shopping Center?
A. 14,000. B. 20,000. C. 40,000. D. 150,000.
22. Which city aims to ensure residents’ easy access to green spaces?
A. Liverpool. B. Singapore. C. New York City. D. Melbourne.
23. What is one benefit of Melbourne’s vertical forests?
A. Providing a city greenway. B. Preserving rare native species.
C. Attracting more tourists. D. Cleaning the surrounding air.

For 26-year-old Hungarian student Liu Bao Oscar, the path to studying Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was deeply personal. Standing in the middle of the busy TCM night market at Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (LNUTCM), he carefully prepared a traditional medicine for digestion, saying excitedly, “This is my first time trying a herbal preparation with my own hands.”
When Liu was young, he suffered from frequent stomach pain and digestive issues, and Western medicine provided little relief. His father, a graduate of LNUTCM, turned to TCM instead. He applied herbal patches (中药贴) to Liu’s belly button, the location of Shenque acupuncture point (神阙穴), a key TCM acupoint (穴位). “To me, it felt like magic,” Liu said. “In just a few months, I was feeling much better.”
Curious about this ancient practice, Liu followed in his father’s footsteps. In 2019, he left Hungary and registered at LNUTCM, determined to understand the science behind TCM. During his studies, Liu discovered the logic behind his childhood treatment. The patches contained warming herbs, ideal for his cold-related digestive issues. The Shenque acupuncture point, close to the digestive organs, allowed the medicine to be absorbed efficiently. “It all made sense once I understood the theory,” he said. “It’s not magic — it’s science.” Inspired, Liu experimented with his treatment. Diagnosed with poor digestion, he adjusted his diet and tried different herbal combinations. Over time, his digestive problems faded.
The night market gave Liu the chance to see TCM in action. He observed traditional Chinese medicine doctors treating patients, hoping to absorb their techniques. “Seeing the theory applied in real life is invaluable,” he said. “It reminds me why I chose this path.”
According to LNUTCM Party Secretary Lyu Xiaodong, TCM isn’t just about treating illness. It’s about “focusing on the whole lifestyle to maintain health and balance.” Lyu said. For Liu, the goal is to bring TCM back to Hungary. “My father studied here before. Now, I am continuing that journey,” Liu said. “The more I learn, the more I want to share this knowledge with the world.”
24. Why did Liu receive TCM treatment when he was young?
A. His condition didn’t improve with Western Medicine.
B. His father worked as a famous TCM doctor.
C. He was extremely curious about TCM knowledge.
D. He wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.
25. What did Liu learn about the Shenque acupuncture point from his studies?
A. It was where herbal patches were applied. B. It was a vital acupoint in TCM.
C. Its location helped medicine absorption. D. Warming herbs worked best on it.
26. What did Liu do at the TCM night market?
A. He sold digestive herbal patches. B. He treated patients for the first time.
C. He tested the effect of a new digestive drug. D. He watched the application of TCM theory.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Father and Son’s Career in TCM B. A Hungarian’s Journey with TCM
C. A TCM Night Market Experience D. A Great Dream to Spread TCM
【答案】24. A 25. C 26. D 27. B

From thrilling fantasy to urban romances, Chinese online literature has taken the world by storm — and AI translation is the driving force behind this phenomenon.
According to a recent industry report, the number of overseas readers of Chinese web novels has risen dramatically, surging from 230 million in 2023 to an impressive 352 million in 2024. AI translation has lowered language barriers, making long web novels easier to read for people around the world. By the end of 2024, over 808,000 works had reached readers in more than 200 countries and regions, including Greece, Spain, Brazil and Portugal.
“After 20 years of overseas development, Chinese online literature has attracted a large group of fans,” Hou Xiaonan, CEO of one of the Chinese online literature platforms, said. “Some experts have listed it as one of the four cultural wonders of the world.”
However, AI translation similarly poses concerns. The main problem is accuracy, especially for wording related to cultural background, where small differences may be lost. AI works fairly well with urban love stories, but it is hard to translate stories full of Chinese culture — such as wuxia or fantasy — well. It also has trouble with idioms. Some readers have noticed strange expressions or wrong tones in AI translations.
The limits of AI translation show the importance of human translators. But many translators now focus on proofreading (校对) and editing AI drafts, and their incomes have dropped by as much as half. Besides, it is still being debated who holds the right of authorship if a work is translated by AI and proofread by human translators. All make them hesitate whether to continue working in this field.
Experts also warn that it is tricky when using AI models for translation. “Generative AI models are trained on thousands of texts, but many texts are used without obtaining permission from the original authors,” said Yan Xiaohong, former chairman of the Copyright Society of China, “AI tools contribute to the efficiency and quality of translation, but many issues are still worth paying attention to and discussing.”
28. What can we know about Chinese online literature?
A. It has bridged the language barriers. B. It has gained growing popularity in China.
C. Its overseas readership has increased rapidly. D. It has been widely recognized as a literary wonder.
29. What can be inferred about AI translation?
A. It has trouble with cultural content. B. Readers are unsatisfied with it.
C. The work’s original style is lost. D. It has restricted Chinese literature.
30. How does AI translation affect human translators?
A. They have been replaced by AI translation. B. They have lost the authorship of their works.
C. Their salaries are going down a little. D. Their job security is on the decline.
31. What is Yan Xiaohong’s attitude towards AI translation?
A. Approving. B. Cautious. C. Opposed. D. Indifferent.
【答案】28. C 29. A 30. D 31. B

When we talk about animal intelligence, mice are not always the first to come to mind. However, a new study, published in Current Biology, has revealed surprising results about the cognitive (认知的) abilities of these small animals, showing they may be more strategic than we think.
Kishore Kuchibhotla, a neuroscientist (神经科学家) who has long worked with mice, noticed a strange phenomenon: mice often did poorly in tests even when they seemed to know how to do well. They put forward two possible explanations: the poor performance was either caused by stress or a purposeful behavior of exploring and testing their knowledge. To find out why, Kuchibhotla and his graduate student Zi Yizhu designed a simple experiment.
In the experiment, mice were trained to respond to two different sounds. When they heard one sound, they needed to turn a wheel to the left; for the other sound, they had to turn it to the right. Correct responses were rewarded. The researchers observed that when hearing the same sound in constant trials, the mice would first turn left for a while, then switch to right. These seemingly “mistakes” were actually purposeful actions. To further confirm, the team removed the reward. When a mouse gave a correct response but got no reward, it immediately improved its performance in the next test. Kuchibhotla explained that this showed the mice had an internal understanding of the task: the lack of reward broke their expectations, making them use their existing knowledge to do better.
The researchers concluded that the gap between the mice’s knowledge and their test performance came from exploration — a form of strategic thinking. Though it’s hard to say animals form formal hypotheses (假设), mice may use higher cognitive processes that involve conjecture about task rules, forming an opinion that is not based on definite knowledge. This kind of mental activity is similar to how nonverbal human babies learn, as both require the ability to process external information and form initial perception of the environment.
This study deepens our understanding of animal cognition. Next, the team plans to identify the neural basis of such strategic thinking and compare it across species.
32. What can possibly explain the mice’s poor performance in tests in paragraph 2?
A. Tiredness from stressful life. B. Fear or internal pressure.
C. Lack of cognitive abilities. D. Stress or intentional exploration.
33. What would the mice do when the reward was removed?
A. Repeat the same response. B. Make more purposeful mistakes.
C. Perform better in the next trial. D. Fail to use their existing knowledge.
34. What does the underlined word “conjecture” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Explanation. B. Guess. C. Record. D. Memory.
35. What is the passage mainly about?
A. A new discovery about mice’s unexpected cognitive skills.
B. A research to find the neural basis of animal intelligence.
C. A discussion of strategic thinking in different animal species.
D. A comparison between mice and human babies’ thinking ability.
【答案】32. D 33. C 34. B 35. A

细节理解题。根据第二段“They put forward two possible explanations: the poor performance was either caused by stress or a purposeful behavior of exploring and testing their knowledge.(他们提出了两种可能的解释:表现不佳要么是由压力引起的,要么是一种探索和测试知识的有目的的行为)”可知,压力或故意的探索可能解释老鼠在测试中表现不佳的原因。故选D。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“When a mouse gave a correct response but got no reward, it immediately improved its performance in the next test.(当一只老鼠做出正确的反应但没有得到奖励时,它立即在下次测试中提高了自己的表现)”可知,当奖励被移除时,老鼠会在下一次试验中表现得更好。故选C。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“Though it’s hard to say animals form formal hypotheses (假设), mice may use higher cognitive processes that involve conjecture about task rules, forming an opinion that is not based on definite knowledge.(虽然很难说动物会形成正式的假设,但老鼠可能会使用更高的认知过程,包括对任务规则的conjecture,形成一种不基于明确知识的观点)”可知,本句是在解释老鼠形成观点的过程,结合“not based on definite knowledge”可推测,老鼠的这种观点不是基于明确的知识,而是基于猜测。由此可知,划线词conjecture意为“猜测”,与Guess意思相近。故选B。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“However, a new study, published in Current Biology, has revealed surprising results about the cognitive (认知的) abilities of these small animals, showing they may be more strategic than we think.(然而,发表在《当代生物学》上的一项新研究揭示了这些小动物令人惊讶的认知能力,表明它们可能比我们想象的更有策略性)”及全文可知,本文主要介绍了关于老鼠具有意想不到的认知能力的新发现。故选A。

How Neighborhood Design Shapes Our Social Lives
Have you ever noticed how some neighborhoods feel warm and friendly, while others seem cold and distant? Surprisingly, the design of our physical surroundings plays a crucial role in how much we interact with our neighbors.____36____ This field studies the connection between physical space and human behavior.
A key factor is the presence of “third places.” These are social spaces separate from our homes (“first place”) and workplaces (“second place”). ____37____ When a neighborhood has benches, small parks, or a community garden, people naturally tend to meet and chat there. These spots encourage unplanned social contact.
____38____ Traditional streets that cross each other regularly, with sidewalks, promote walking and chance meetings. In contrast, wide roads designed mainly for cars can isolate houses and reduce opportunities for casual interaction. People inside cars rarely stop to talk.
Similarly, building arrangements affect social contact. 【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了社区设计如何影响人们的社交生活。
【36题详解】
上文“Surprisingly, the design of our physical surroundings plays a crucial role in how much we interact with our neighbors.(令人惊讶的是,我们周围环境的设计对我们与邻居的互动程度起着至关重要的作用)”说明环境设计对社交互动的重要性,空处和前文为顺接关系,说明这种作用的研究领域。所以E项“这是环境心理学研究的重点。”符合语境。E选项中的“this”指代前文提到的环境设计对社交互动的影响,且“environmental psychology”与下文“This field studies the connection between physical space and human behavior.(这个领域研究物理空间与人类行为之间的联系)”中的“this field”相呼应。故选E。
【37题详解】
上文“A key factor is the presence of “third places.” These are social spaces separate from our homes (“first place”) and workplaces (“second place”).(一个关键因素是“第三场所”的存在。这些是与我们的家(“第一场所”)和工作场所(“第二场所”)分开的社交空间)”说明“第三场所”是与家和工作场所分开的社交空间,空处和前文为顺接关系,说明“第三场所”的例子。所以D项“例如咖啡馆、图书馆,甚至是一个简单的游乐场。”符合语境。D选项中的“Examples”与上文中的“These are social spaces”相呼应,且列举的例子都是具体的社交空间。故选D。
【38题详解】
下文“Traditional streets that cross each other regularly, with sidewalks, promote walking and chance meetings. In contrast, wide roads designed mainly for cars can isolate houses and reduce opportunities for casual interaction.(传统的街道经常相互交叉,有人行道,促进步行和偶遇。相比之下,主要为汽车设计的宽阔道路会使房屋孤立,减少随意互动的机会)”说明街道设计对社交互动的影响,空处位于段首,引出下文,说明街道设计的重要性。所以A项“街道的布局同样重要。”符合语境。A选项中的“The arrangement of streets”与下文中的“Traditional streets”和“wide roads”相呼应,且“equally important”强调了街道设计的重要性。故选A。
39题详解】
上文“Apartment buildings with shared entrances, halls, or mail areas create regular chances for neighbors to meet.(有共享入口、大厅或邮件区的公寓楼为邻居提供了定期见面的机会)”说明共享空间对社交互动的影响,空处和前文为顺接关系,进一步说明共享空间的作用。所以G项“这样的共享空间让邻居在日常生活中很容易见面。”符合语境。G选项中的“Such shared spaces”指代上文提到的“shared entrances, halls, or mail areas”,且“make it easy for neighbors to meet each other in daily life”与上文中的“create regular chances for neighbors to meet”相呼应。
F选项中的“Good planning”与上文中的“physical surroundings”相呼应,且“make neighborhoods more connected and friendly”是对上文提到的“friendliness or coldness”的进一步阐述。

故填Made。

故填be stored。
【64题详解】

【答案】One possible version:
Dear Tom,
How’s everything going? Our English class held an activity themed “Discover the Beauty of the Campus” last Friday, and I took a photo that I really cherish.
In the photo, a boy was playing basketball — he leaped high, legs slightly bent, hands gripping the ball ready to shoot. Sweat rolled down his cheeks, yet his eyes fixed firmly on the hoop with determination. His teammates held their breath, while the crowd on the sidelines cheered excitedly.
This photo isn’t just about a shot; it’s about the passion of youth. It always reminds me of the importance of perseverance and enthusiasm — little wonders like this make campus life unforgettable!
Yours,

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was in a bad mood because I lost my job in a company, which had closed down due to budget cuts. I hoped an art class would help take my mind off my troubles, so I signed up for one at our community center. That’s where I met Rosemary.
When I arrived, the place was packed. There must have been twenty students there. Most of the seats were taken, and the learners all seemed to know each other. I found one empty table for four at the back.
That’s when Rosemary rolled in. She was very thin and wore a scarf around her head. She wheeled herself to”my table”, and I had to admit, I felt a little uncomfortable. I’m not sure why, but I did. Two very elderly women joined us, one using two canes (拐杖) and the other with a walker. I felt like I was back in high school, at the unpopular table.
We were told that the teacher was running late due to car trouble. Rosemary smiled, and her face transformed from a sad, sickly person to a sort of angelic, hairless being. She had no eyebrows or eyelashes and wore no makeup, so her beauty was indeed the real deal.
“Hi, I’m Rosemary, and I’m in a war with breast cancer, but it won’t steal my joy!” she said cheerfully, tapping her notebook.
“Hi, I’m Pat,” I said.
Carol and Nancy introduced themselves, and there we were.
I didn’t know what to say after that. “I’m a bad-tempered, unemployed secretary?” But I was saved by the teacher’s arrival.
The course was six weeks long, and the four of us always sat together. By the third week, I viewed Rosemary as a lovely person, not as a cancer patient. We became friends and even exchanged our addresses. She missed the fourth week, and of course we feared the worst.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next day, we paid a visit to Rosemary in the hospital.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We were excited about the good news and opened her notebook of “small things to be grateful for”.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
The next day, we paid a visit to Rosemary in the hospital. She was lying in bed, and her face lit up the second she spotted us. She told us the latest treatment had made her a bit weak, so she’d skipped class. Luckily, the doctor said her condition was stabilizing and the treatment was working better than expected. We pulled up chairs beside her bed and stayed with her for a while, chatting and laughing. I asked her what made her so optimistic. Rosemary reached for her notebook on the bedside table. “I have something to show you,” she said with a mysterious smile. She handed the notebook to us, and on the cover, it was written “Small things to be grateful for”.
We were excited about the good news and opened her notebook of “small things to be grateful for”. The first page listed simple joys: the warm sunshine that came through the window this morning, the kind nurse who brought me an extra blanket, and the thoughtful messages from my art-class friends. As we turned the pages, we saw more entries full of sincere gratitude. “I started this notebook when I got sick,” Rosemary explained. “It helps me focus on the positive things in life, no matter how small they are. And it shows even in darkness, there’s always light.” Deeply moved, I found my unemployment stress melted away. I felt like a fighter just like her — gratitude is truly a powerful force in the face of hardships.

Apartment buildings with shared entrances, halls, or mail areas create regular chances for neighbors to meet.____39____ However, single-family houses with front-facing garages and large spaces between buildings reduce visibility and casual interactions.
In general, a neighborhood’s friendliness or coldness is largely shaped by its physical surroundings. ____40____ Careful community planning that focuses on pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use areas can help develop community life, showing the need for cooperation between planners, architects, and social scientists.
A. The arrangement of streets is equally important.
B. The design of a neighborhood can reflect its local culture.
C. These living environments are free for all residents to use.
D. Examples include cafes, libraries, or even a simple playground.
E. This is the focus of a study known as environmental psychology.
F. Good planning can make neighborhoods more connected and friendly.
G. Such shared spaces make it easy for neighbors to meet each other in daily life.

I was in a bad mood because I lost my job in a company which had closed down due to budget cuts. I hoped an art class would help take my mind off my troubles, so I signed up for one at our community center. That’s where I met Rosemary.
When I arrived the place was packed.
