Why should we have good table manners? They make eating more pleasant. However, your proper table manners may be impolite in other countries. Let’s see some strange table manners around the world.
① ____59____
In India, it’s very common to eat with your hands. However, there is an important rule: you should only use your right hand. The left hand, considered unclean, must not be used for eating. For this reason, people in India often use bread like naan to scoop up their food.
② ____60____
In some countries, like Thailand, finishing all your food on your plate is a sign. It shows that your host doesn’t provide you with enough food. However, for Japanese people, finishing the food on your plate shows that the food is delicious, and that you like the food, too.
③ ____61____
In Thailand, you don’t use a fork for sending food to your mouth. In fact, it never goes into your mouth. You use it to move food from your plate onto your spoon, but you shouldn’t use it to move rice to your spoon. It won’t be easy. The people in India and Nepal (尼泊尔) have different eating customs. They don’t even use forks but eat with their hands.
59. Why must people avoid eating with their left hand in India?
A. Because the left hand is used for drinking.
B. Because the left hand is considered unclean.
C. Because the left hand is too weak to hold food.
D. Because the left hand is only for serving others.
60. What does the underlined word “It” in last paragraph refer to?
A. Using a spoon to move food to a fork. B. Using a fork to move rice to a spoon.
C. Eating noodles with a loud sound. D. Finishing all the food on the plate.

Chen-Ning Yang, a great physicist and Nobel Prize winner, passed away on October 18, 2025, in Beijing. Tsinghua University wrote about his death and described him as immortal (不朽的) for his influence on science and education will last forever.
Yang was born in 1922 in Hefei, Anhui Province. He studied at Southwest Associated University in 1938. The next year, he went to the United States for further study, receiving a PhD from the University of Chicago in 1948.

His first visit to China in 1971 encouraged many overseas Chinese researchers to return. He also raised money to support nearly 100 Chinese students studying abroad. At the age of 77, he came back to work at Tsinghua University, training young scientists and helping physics develop in China.

On the evening of March 21, 2025, a 10-year-old boy from Chiling Village, Lingshui, Hainan, went fishing alone in a small boat. He didn’t know that this trip would turn into a dangerous experience.
After hours in the warm sun, he fell asleep on his small boat. When he woke up, the sky was dark. Suddenly, the wind changed direction, and strong ocean currents (洋流) pushed his boat far from the land. The boy tried to row back, but the waves were too powerful. His boat drifted (漂流) farther and farther into the open sea. Remembering survival skills, he followed ocean currents and used stars as guides.
For nearly 16 hours, the boy floated on the sea. He faced terrible difficulties. His skin turned red from the sun, and his clothes were covered in salt from the seawater. What’s worse, he had no food or water. He was tired but calm.
Luckily, a fishing boat near Houhai Bay, Sanya, heard his weak cries for help. The captain (船长) and his workmates quickly saved him. They gave him bread and milk. After eating all the food, the boy slowly regained energy. Later, he told them his unbelievable story—he had drifted over 16 kilometers from his home.
The boy’s bravery and survival skills surprised everyone. His story also tells us the importance of safety, especially for children. Whether swimming, boating, or doing outdoor activities, we must know about safety rules, learn survival skills and have an adult’s supervision (监督).
66. How does the writer start the text?

d. The boy fell asleep and then was carried far from the coast by strong currents.
e. The boy told others about his 16-kilometer drift after getting his strength back.
A. a—c—b—e—d B. b—d—c—a—e C. c—e—b—d—a D. b—c—e—d—a
69. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A. Children should never go fishing.

A. B. C. D.
【答案】66. C 67. C 68. B 69. C 70. A
