In 2015,Liam,an Australian student, came to Shanghai to study Mandarin. His interest in
local traditions led him to Professor Wang's kunqu opera classes, where he was quickly fascinated.
His goal soon shifted from language learning to a deep passion for this classical art.
Professor Wang encouraged Liam to master a piece by kunqu legend Mei Lanfang. The
process took half a year, yet Liam felt he still lacked insight into the cultural foundations. He thus
immersed himself in studying poetic meters, participating in Mid-Autumn Festival customs, and
digging into philosophical texts. His perseverance won Professor Wang's recognition, and in 2017
he was formally accepted as an apprentice ()During his training,Liam also volunteered to
perform in community service programs.
After graduation in 2021,Liam chose to stay in Shanghai as an English teacher. He also joined
the Global Kunqu Initiative,a project uniting international performers to stage kunqu. To him,the
art had become a vital cultural bridge.
"We often draw inspiration from cultural contrasts to adapt or create works,"Liam says.In a
recent performance,"The Tea Ritual,"which he co-adapted with Brazilian and Chinese partners,he
humorously compared different tea traditions. This brought both laughter and reflection to the
audience."Expressing differences through comedy helps us see what we share,"he reflects.
This cultural journey shapes his teaching. He uses examples to show how gestures or customs
are perceived differently worldwide."I want my students to feel the culture, not just memorize
words,.”he notes..
Recently honored for promoting cultural exchange,Liam plans a long-term future in China.
He aims to build stronger community ties and inspire others to appreciate Chinese culture through
their own interests."True understanding requires active participation,"he concludes."I hope more
people will cross this bridge."

The more languages you speak, the less likely you are to experience accelerated
ageing.A study found that those who can speak only one language are at greater risk of growing
old before their time.Being bilingual offers some benefit, but the real advantage
becomes clear when a person can speak three or more languages.
Researchers from the Basque Centre on Cognition,Brain and Language took survey data
from 86,149 people aged between 51 and 90 in 27 European countries. They compared their real
age to their biological age based on numerous lifestyle factors, assessing their cognitive abilities,
their functional abilities, their levels of physical activity and their history of conditions. They
found that those who spoke more than one language were likely to have a smaller gap between
their real and their biological age, while those who spoke only one language were more likely to
have a biological age older than their true age, suggesting that they were not ageing well.
"A limitation of the study is that it did not look at the level of fluency in the languages
spoken,so it could not distinguish between a person who once studied another language in school
and someone who uses multiple languages daily,"Jason Rothman and Federico Gallo from the
Brain and Bilingual Experience Lab wrote in their analysis. However, they added that this
limitation helps to illustrate the protective effects of multilingualism, noting that it demonstrates
that the protective effect generalises across whole populations.
"If multilingualism builds resilience against ageing, then encouraging additional language
learning in schools and keeping opportunities for multilingual usage across the lifespan could be
as important as campaigns that promote physical activity,"Gallo said.
The reason lies in a simple yet crucial fact:the mind, like any muscle, thrives on challenge.
And few challenges are as rich or universally available as learning another language. This activity
exercises the brain, which,in turn, helps delay the process of ageing.
28.What can we learn from the researchers'survey?
A.The survey was carried out among teenagers across Europe.
B.Bilingual people benefit more than three-language speakers.
C.People who speak only one language age biologically faster.
D.The history of conditions has no effect on one's biological age.
29.What is the limitation of the study?
A.It only studied young people.
B.It overlooked participants'cognitive abilities.
C.It surveyed too few participants.
D.It ignored participants'language fluency.
30.What is Rothman and Gallo's attitude towards the study?
A.Positive.
B.Doubtful.
C.Dismissive.
D.Subjective.
31.Why can learning languages help delay ageing?
A.It improves one's social life.
B.It challenges and exercises the brain.
C.It encourages more physical activity.
D.It is easier for young people to learn.

Emotions are present in every moment of our existence.Studies show they can easily spread
※兴必※
from person to person, directly impacting our thoughts and actions. This makes emotional
※※※※
intelligence (El)invaluable-it gives us the ability to understand and manage our feelings, rather
※必※※
than being ruled by them.
:※※※※
A fundamental component of EI is taking ownership of one's feelings.Rather than blaming
※※※※
※※※※
others by saying "You made me angry,"emotionally intelligent individuals recognize their own
※※※※
responsibility.For instance,when a group project fails,instead of accusing classmates,one might
兴兴※※
reflect,"I feel disappointed because our results didn't meet expectations."This mindset shift
※※必※
※※※※
enables active problem-solving and reduces helplessness.Harvard Business School research
※※※※
indicates that people who take responsibility for their emotions are 30%more effective at stress
母※※※※
management.
:※※※※
※※※※
Effective communication serves as another foundation of EI.The use of "I"statements
必※※※
provides a practical way to express feelings without sparkling defensiveness. If a sibling forgets
:※※※
your birthday, saying "I felt sad because I was looking forward to celebrating with you"proves
※※※※
more constructive than a blame "You don't care about me."Teachers consistently observe that
※※※必
※※※兴
students employing this technique solve conflicts more successfully and maintain better
※必※※
relationships with peers.
※※※※
Self-awareness and self-regulation are equally vital.When emotions run high,the brain's
※米※※
※※※※
fight-or-flight response can trigger impulsive (reactions.Emotionally intelligent people
※※※※
learn to pause and ask,"Why am I feeling this way?"and"Will my reaction help?"According to a
必※※※
2025 study in the Journal of Adolescent Health, teenagers who pause for just ten seconds before
※※必必
responding are 45%less likely to engage in arguments.
些※※※※
兴必※※
Finally,EI develops through conscious self-care and positive social connections.Surrounding
必必※※
oneself with supportive individuals builds emotional resilience, while negative company can
※※※※
※※※※
diminish EI.Simple self-care practices-like reading,walking,or pursuing hobbies-can maintain
※※※必
emotional balance. These habits collectively enhance one's ability to navigate life's challenges with
※必※※
greater wisdom and stability.
※※※※
32.What is the benefit of taking ownership of one's feelings?
※必必※
※※※※
A.It makes people handle stress more effectively.
※※※※
B.It helps to build a stronger bond with classmates.
※※※※
C.It encourages others to take responsibility as well.
兴※※※
※※※※
D.It allows individuals to avoid feeling disappointed.
※※※※
33.How do"I"statements contribute to effective communication?
※※※※
A.They make the expression more accurate.
※※※※
※※※※
B.They allow people to precisely assign blame.
※兴兴兴
C.They help keep the listener from feeling defensive.
※※※※
D.They enable students to achieve academic success.

34.What does the underlined word"diminish"in the last paragraph mean?

A.Strengthen.
B.Weaken
C.Ignore.
D.Protect.

Do you often struggle with distraction, unfinished tasks,or relying on motivation to get things
部
done?Becoming a high performer isn't about being born extraordinary-it's about building small,
consistent habits. In this guide,we'll go through 5 key habits that can help you turn ordinary efforts
into extraordinary results.
Rely on systems,not willpower
36.High performers don't wait for motivation;they build routines that make action
automatic-like scheduling focused work time or daily writing.Mood swings won't derail them,
because their systems keep them on track.
37
双
Most people say"yes"to everything and end up distracted.High performers know that saying
"no"isn't rude-it's a way to protect their time,energy,and focus.They're selective about what
they take on,so they can pour their best into what matters.
Treat rest like a strategy
Sleep and recovery aren't luxuries for high performers-they're part of the plan.38
They unplug without guilt, protect their sleep cycles, and make time for"white space,"because
burnout kills productivity and creativity.
Master the art of finishing
Starting tasks is easy, but finishing them is what sets high performers apart.39.Whether
it's publishing a piece of work,closing a project loop,or shipping an imperfect version,they
prioritize completion over perfection.
Invest in identity,not just goals
Instead of chasing surface outcomes like "I want to read more,"high performers focus on
identity:"I'm the kind of person who reads daily."40.This shift reshapes their behavior,
making habits last because they're consistent with who they want to be.
These habits are proof that ordinary people, with a bit of structure,self-awareness,and
commitment,can become exceptional.And maybe,that includes you!
☒
A.Reflect before reacting
B.Say“no”more than“yes”
C.Systems are more reliable than willpower
D.They develop a preference for completing tasks
E.They understand that rest fuels peak performance
F.This allows them to minimize distractions and maintain focus
G.It changes how they engage with daily routines, leading to lasting habits
