Is appearance important?
Many people place a high value on appearance, because a physically attractive person can impress people. For example, a good-looking actor or actress can get noticed quickly. Moreover, a good appearance can boost our self-confidence. We feel good if we look good. However, there is a danger of attaching too much importance to appearance, as it does not always indicate what kind of character one has, or what skills one may possess. So in my opinion, we should take care of our physical appearance, but “Never judge a book by its cover.”

English Market Towns to Visit in the UK
English market towns come in many shapes and sizes. Each has a personality shaped by the goods and services produced and traded for centuries. But each town has more to do than shop.
Hereford, Herefordshire
Hereford has remained a lively market town since 1189. Skirting the town square, you’ll find lovely shops, eateries, and the Black and White House Museum. The Hereford Cathedral is the most impressive building in town. It’s also home to an ancient library. One of the four original copies of the Magna Carta is displayed there.
Ludlow, Shropshire
Ludlow is known as the Foodie Center of England. Butcher shops, greengrocers, bakeries, and cheese shops line the town square. Bordering the square, the Ludlow Castle is a “must explore” medieval stronghold. The three-day Ludlow Food Festival is held each September.
Shrewsbury, Shropshire
Getting to Shrewsbury Town Center from London is challenging but worth the anxiety. The River Severn has a significant turn through town, almost making an island of Shrewsbury Town Center. The shape creates a perfect market where goods could be shipped and received using the river as a highway. Flowers are everywhere—hanging baskets window boxes and planters—just what you imagine in an attractive English market town.
Mevagissey, Cornwall
Even if you haven’t been to the small fishing village Mevagissey, you’ve probably seen it in a movie or British TV show. The working harbor took shape in 1774. B
Ten years ago, a private investigator appeared at my door.
“I’m here to investigate the person who lives here,” she announced, then entered my home and slowly explored. Her eyes swept from the decorations on the wall to the red Turkish mat on the floor.
She stopped at a glass and yellow cake trolley — a gift from my mother. On top sat a manuscript: the handwritten memoirs of a ninety-nine-year-old World War II veteran. His daughter had asked for my help turning his stories into a literary family legacy.
The investigator moved to the living room. A curtain, trimmed with crystal beads, hung from a French window. The sunlight made the crystals swing, casting rainbows on the ceiling. “I made it myself,” I said. “I love the cherry-red fabric.” She nodded and approached the bookshelf. She ran her finger along the spines, mouthing titles of autobiography, then moved to a pink wardrobe filled with family photos, a globe, and travel souvenirs.
Room by room, she made notes. When she finished, she said. “I’ve got everything I need. A full profile on you.” As I read her analysis, I learned more about my preferences, talents, and style — I hadn’t fully recognized before. This profile became the first step toward designing a life aligned with my unique joys and skills.
In truth, the private investigator was me. I learned of this self-discovery exercise called The Private-Eye Game. It opened my eyes to my authentic self, guiding me to create a lifestyle that truly reflected my talents and desires.
The exercise is simple: examine your life from this detective perspective. In your home or workspace, look closely at your belongings and note what they reveal about you. Search for subtle clues that tell you about your interests and talents.
Once you’ve gathered information, write a “portrait of yourself” — a detailed profile. Reflect on it: Are there surprises? When I did this, I realized my wardrobe choices didn’t reflect my true style. I preferred comfort and light colors over high heels and reds. I discovered my love of travel, curiosity about cultures, and talent for drawing out people’s stories. These insights helped me craft a richer, more fulfilling life.
What might you uncover? Your personal space holds clues about your talents, interests, and desires — things you may have overlooked. With greater clarity, you can make conscious choices to live more authentically, beyond just your home.
41.What was the investigator doing in the author’s room?
A.Investigating a crime. B.Appreciating the room.
C.Collecting information. D.Searching for a manuscript.
42.What is The Private-Eye Game intended for?
A.Building a virtual life. B.Discovering one’s true self.
C.Creating a personal space. D.Developing one’s potential.
43.What can we know about the writer?
A.She likes red stuff. B.She ignores her strengths.
C.She is good at story writing. D.She dislikes tidying up rooms.
44.What can we learn from the story?

Earlier this year, the Pew Research Center released data showing that 55% of people get their news from social media. In a follow-up study, they found that these people are more likely to see misinformation. When that misinformation is about science, it contributes to the growing mistrust individuals have towards science. We, as scientists, need to do our best to correct this misinformation. However, we are mostly stuck behind our lab desks due to the pressure to publish papers.
When we occasionally do approach the public, we often don’t do a great job communicating in ways nonscientists can understand. Most of us have not been trained to communicate or teach the lay audience. We use complicated words and phrases and a lot of jargon (术语), we may focus on tiny details that the general public doesn’t need to understand. Other times we forget that the people we are talking to are human, with complicated lives and emotions. Just like us. They deserve our attention and respect. This causes the public to rely on other sources for their scientific information, often the above-mentioned social media.
Today we are seeing the consequences of this. Large percentages of people believe that infectious diseases are not real and that vaccines are dangerous. This distrust in science has gone from a mere inconvenience to now being an issue that endangers public health and safety. Distrust in science also endangers our funding. When the public puts less value in science there is less public support for tax dollars going to funding for research.
So, what can we do to address these issues? People trust those they know and interact with. We need to interact with the public more. During these interactions, we should choose our words carefully. We need to cut out as much jargon as possible. Sometimes it may be necessary, but then we must be clear and explain the terms we use. To help people understand and remember concepts, we can use stories and images to illustrate our main points. Most people can remember a story someone told, or a striking image shared.
46.What concern does the author raise based on the Pew study?
A.Declining public curiosity about science.
B.Spread of false scientific information.
C.Scientists’ limited time for lab work.
D.Difficulty in publishing research.
47.What does the underlined word “lay” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Nontechnical. B.Outnumbered. C.Misinformed. D.Undereducated.
48.What results from the public’s disbelief in science?
A.Much stricter research regulation.
B.Researchers losing scientific interest.
C.An increased risk for wellness threats.
D.Inconvenient access to scientific findings.
49.What does the author urge scientists to focus on?
A.Working with other researchers.
B.Releasing more scientific work.
C.Avoiding social media platforms.
D.Making science more understandable.
50.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A.Why the Public Distrusts Scientists
B.The Importance of Publishing Scientific Papers
C.The Negative Impact of Social Media on Science
D.How Scientists Can Correct Misinformation and Build Public Trust
【答案】46.B 47.A 48.C 49.D 50.D
【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要介绍社交媒体传播科学虚假信息导致公众对科学不信任的问题,分析成因,并向科学家提出改善沟通、纠正误导的建议。
46.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“Earlier this year, the Pew Research Center released data showing that 55% of people get their news from social media. In a follow-up study, they found that these people are more likely to see misinformation. When that misinformation is about science, it contributes to the growing mistrust individuals have towards science.(今年早些时候,皮尤研究中心发布的数据显示,55%的人从社交媒体获取新闻。在一项后续研究中,他们发现这些人更有可能看到虚假信息。当这些虚假信息与科学相关时,就会加剧人们对科学日益增长的不信任)”可知,作者基于皮尤研究提出的担忧是科学虚假信息的传播。故选B项。
47.词句猜测题。根据第二段中的“Most of us have not been trained to communicate or teach the lay audience. We use complicated words and phrases and a lot of jargon (术语), we may focus on tiny details that the general public doesn’t need to understand.(我们大多数人都没有接受过与lay受众沟通或传授知识的训练。我们使用复杂的词汇和短语,以及大量的术语,我们可能会专注于普通大众不需要理解的微小细节)”可知,后文general public(普通大众)是对lay audience的解释,由此猜测lay意为“非专业的”,与Nontechnical意思相近。故选A项。
48.细节理解题。根据第三段中的“This distrust in science has gone from a mere inconvenience to now being an issue that endangers public health and safety.(这种对科学的不信任已经从一种单纯的不便,演变成如今危及公众健康和安全的问题)”可知,公众对科学的不信任会导致健康安全风险增加。故选C项。
49.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“We need to interact with the public more. During these interactions, we should choose our words carefully. We need to cut out as much jargon as possible. Sometimes it may be necessary, but then we must be clear and explain the terms we use. To help people understand and remember concepts, we can use stories and images to illustrate our main points.(我们需要更多地与公众互动。
D选项“How Scientists Can Correct Misinformation and Build Public Trust(科学家如何纠正虚假信息并建立公众信任)”能概括全文主旨,适合作为标题。故选D项。

Can AI music truly feel human? A recent experiment with the AI music platform Suno and a new preprint study offer some clues.
The study, which used thousands of Suno-generated songs from a Reddit board, asked participants to tell AI music apart from human compositions. Results showed people were only 53% accurate — almost like guessing. When songs were stylistically similar, accuracy rose to 66%, but Suno’s models keep getting more advanced.
I tried Suno myself, instructing it to make a “1960s-style folk-rock song with sincere male vocals.” The AI created it in seconds. Though I couldn’t easily tell it from human-made music, it didn’t touch me emotionally. This connects to my personal experience with Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth”, a song tied to memories of my stepfather teaching me to play it — memories that make the song meaningful.
Technology has long changed how we interact with music. From Napster’s file sharing to Spotify’s subscriptions, music has become easily accessible, as David Bowie predicted years ago. Now AI like Suno adds more music to the mix, with Spotify recently removing 75 million low-quality works, though we don’t know how many were AI-made.
History shows new music technologies often spark debate. Sampling was once called lazy or theft but is now recognized as art. AI music faces similar copyright issues, but unlike DJs who sample songs they love, AI’s connection to music feels less personal.
While AI music keeps improving, most of it may be forgotten, just like most human music. We want more than skill in music — we want stories and connections. Some exceptional AI songs might shine in movies or online memes, but genuine emotional resonance (情感共鸣) still comes from human stories.
We should stay cautious, though. Past technologies like player pianos reduced family music-making. Bowie thought live performances would remain the last way to build real connections with audiences. For now, AI music can mimic human sound, but the human touch — memories, stories, and passion — is what makes music truly meaningful.
51.What is the main purpose of the study mentioned?
A.To test whether AI can compose better music than humans.
B.To examine people’s ability to distinguish AI music from human music.
C.To prove that AI music is more emotionally touching than human music.
D.To explore the copyright issues related to AI-generated songs.
52.Why did the accuracy rate rise to 66% in the study?
A.Suno’s models became more advanced.
B.Participants got professional training.
C.The songs involved had similar styles.
D.More human compositions were provided.
53.What does the example of “For What It’s Worth” convey?
A.The author’s stepfather had better musical taste than AI.
B.Personal memories can give music a depth that AI lacks.
C.Human vocals are emotionally richer than AI-generated ones.
D.Music taught by family members is more meaningful.
54.What function does Paragraph 4 serve in the passage?
A.To raise a critical question regarding AI music quality.
B.To provide factual background on music streaming platforms.
C.To argue against the removal of AI-generated songs by Spotify.
D.To illustrate the technological evolution of music access.
55.What is the author’s overall attitude toward AI music?
A.Strongly opposed and pessimistic.
B.Cautious yet open to its potential.
C.Fully supportive and enthusiastic.
D.Indifferent and uninterested.
根据第二段中的“The study, which used thousands of Suno-generated songs from a Reddit board, asked participants to tell AI music apart from human compositions.(这项研究使用了Reddit论坛上数千首由Suno生成的歌曲,要求参与者区分AI音乐和人类创作的音乐)”可知,该研究的主要目的是检验人们区分AI音乐和人类音乐的能力。故选B项。
52.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“When songs were stylistically similar, accuracy rose to 66%, but Suno’s models keep getting more advanced.(当歌曲风格相似时,准确率上升到66%,但Suno的模型还在不断升级)”可知,准确率上升到66%的原因是涉及的歌曲具有相似的风格。故选C项。
53.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“This connects to my personal experience with Buffalo Springfield’s ‘For What It’s Worth’, a song tied to memories of my stepfather teaching me to play it — memories that make the song meaningful.(这让我想起了自己听布法罗·斯普林菲尔德乐队《For What It’s Worth》的经历,这首歌与我继父教我弹奏它的回忆紧密相连——正是这些回忆让这首歌变得有意义)”以及前文提到AI音乐无法触动自己情感,可推断该例子旨在说明个人回忆能赋予音乐AI所缺乏的深度。故选B项。
54.推理判断题。根据第四段“Technology has long changed how we interact with music. From Napster’s file sharing to Spotify’s subscriptions, music has become easily accessible, as David Bowie predicted years ago. Now AI like Suno adds more music to the mix with Spotify recently removing 75 million low-quality works, though we don’t know how many were AI-made.(长期以来,技术一直在改变我们与音乐互动的方式。从Napster的文件共享到Spotify的订阅服务,正如大卫·鲍伊多年前预测的那样,音乐变得越来越容易获取。现在,像Suno这样的AI又为其中增添了更多音乐,尽管目前尚不清楚其中有多少是人工智能创作的,Spotify近期还下架了 7500 万首低质量音乐作品)”可知,该段通过列举不同时期的音乐技术,阐述了音乐获取方式的技术演变。故选D项。
55.推理判断题。根据第六段中的“Some exceptional AI songs might shine in movies or online memes, but genuine emotional resonance still comes from human stories.(一些优秀的AI歌曲可能会在电影或网络梗中脱颖而出,但真正的情感共鸣仍然来自人类的故事)”以及第七段中的“We should stay cautious, though.(不过,我们应该保持谨慎)”可知,作者认为AI音乐有一定潜力,但仍需保持谨慎,整体态度是谨慎且对其潜力持开放态度。故选B项。
第二部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容完成下列各题。
When my father was celebrating a milestone (里程碑) birthday, I pulled together a surprised gift that he would never forget.
On his 60th birthday, I had a fun idea: What if I could get the memories people had of him, put each one into an envelope (信封) — 60 in total — and have him open them, one by one, on his birthday? So I wrote an e-mail to family and friends, explaining my idea.
I sent the e-mail and waited. And then the replies started coming in and I was very, very astonished. There were so many memories, and they were all so lovely. They came from the 50s, 60s, 70s, from every decade (十年) between now and the day my dad was born. They came from my mother, my siblings, my grandma, my dad’s friends from high school, his sister, my dad’s first boss, a colleague at his first job, from people who hadn’t seen my dad in 40 years, from people I myself hadn’t even informed. They typed them and handwrote them. They mailed them and e-mailed them.
The night before Dad’s birthday, my sister and I stayed up late, putting the mail into envelopes.
The next morning, after breakfast and presents and cake, we gave the pile of envelopes to him. “Just one more thing for you,” we said.
It took him a long time to open them and read. Each one was a brief ticket to another time, a leap (跳跃) backward over years and decades. There was a lot of laughter and a few tears in his face.
I was kind of sad when the project of the memories about my father was over because it was great fun to collect these memories.
56.When did the author give her father a surprised gift? (no more than 5 words)
57.What does the underlined word “astonished” in paragraph 3 probably mean? (no more than 1 words)
58.Why did the author and her sister stay up late the night before their father’s birthday? (no more than 10 words)
59.How did the author’s father most probably feel when he read the mail? (no more than 2 words)
60.If it were you, what gift would you buy for your father? Why? (no more than 20 words)
【答案】56.On his 60th birthday. 57.Surprised. 58.To put the mail into envelopes. 59.Moved. 60.I would send him a photo album. It could hold sweet memories with our family.

57.考查词句猜测。根据第三段中的“There were so many memories, and they were all so lovely.
根据第四段中的“The night before Dad’s birthday, my sister and I stayed up late, putting the mail into envelopes.(爸爸生日的前一天晚上,我和姐姐熬夜把邮件装进信封)”可知,姐妹俩熬夜是为了把邮件装进信封。故填To put the mail into envelopes.
59.考查推理判断。根据第六段中的“There was a lot of laughter and a few tears in his face.(有很多笑声,他脸上也有几滴眼泪)”可知,父亲是感动的。故填Moved.
60.开放性试题。符合逻辑和字数即可。例如I would send him a photo album. It could hold sweet memories with our family.

【答案】参考范文
Is appearance important?
Many people place a high value on appearance, because a physically attractive person can impress people. For example, a good-looking actor or actress can get noticed quickly. Moreover, a good appearance can boost our self-confidence. We feel good if we look good. However, there is a danger of attaching too much importance to appearance, as it does not always indicate what kind of character one has, or what skills one may possess. So in my opinion, we should take care of our physical appearance, but “Never judge a book by its cover.”

第二部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2.5分,满分50分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
English Market Towns to Visit in the UK
A.People with a detailed profile enjoy a fulfilling life.
B.A shift in perspective reveals one’s hidden aspects.
C.Self-discovery requires reevaluating possessions.
D.An original portrait displays one’s inner world.
45.How is the passage mainly organized?
A.By presenting problems and offering solutions.
B.By describing an experience and explaining its significance.
C.By comparing different ways of self-discovery.
D.By listing steps of an exercise and its practical effects.

Fishermen go out to sea daily and sell their fish in harbor-side markets. Don’t leave the harbor without a traditional Cornish pie. It’s delicious.
