66.例文:
Dear Rebecca,
Knowing that you are heading back to Britain soon, I have to say that parting is truly hard but I am delighted that you have enjoyed yourself a lot here.
Before you go back, I have selected a gift for you, which is a pair of wooden chopsticks carved with beautiful patterns. Dating from thousands of years ago, chopsticks are not only a kind of tableware, but also a reflection of Chinese intelligence. Moreover, they always come in a pair. As a saying goes, good things come in pairs.
Hope you will like the little gift. Wish you a pleasant journey home and keep in touch.
Yours,
Li Hua
The next morning, Stacey’s voice awakened Adam. “Dad! Quick! Something weird is happening outside!” Rubbing his eyes, Adam approached the bedroom window and spotted a moving truck parked near his driveway. When he stepped outside, he was surprised to see Alice beside the truck. “Alice, what is this?” he asked, approaching her. “A little gift from me to thank you for your kindness,” she said, patting the truck.
At first, Adam wanted to refuse Alice’s truck. But her gift could ease his financial worries, so he accepted it. After she left, he and his children began to look through the truck. The children were so excited to have a truck since there was no means of transport except a second-hand motorcycle. They asked their dad to go for a drive. Adam agreed. Along the way, the family laughed to their hearts’ content. It was the first time that Adam had been so happy since her wife’s death. He felt grateful for Alice’s generosity.

Researchers have created a robot smaller than a grain of salt — less than 1 millimeter in size — that can sense its environment, process information, and move on its own. This breakthrough, achieved by teams from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan, could one day allow tiny robots to perform medical tasks inside the human body, such as repairing nerves or delivering drugs with precision.
For decades, scientists struggled to build a fully functional robot at such a small scale. The main challenge was fitting a computer, sensors, a motor, and a power source into a device tinier than the width of a human hair. “It’s the first tiny robot to be able to sense, think and act,” said Marc Miskin of the University of Pennsylvania.
The robot is powered by tiny solar cells that convert light into energy. Some of this energy runs its simple computer, which operates at one-thousandth the speed of a modern laptop, while the rest powers movement. To swim through liquid, the robot charges two metal electrodes that attract particles in the water, creating a flow that pulls it forward.
Protected by a glass-like coating, the robot is made from materials similar to those in microchips, such as silicon and platinum. It can sense temperature changes and communicate with operators using movement patterns, similar to a bee’s waggle dance. Researchers control it with a laptop, sending and receiving messages about what the robot detects and does.
Looking ahead, scientists aim to adapt the robot for use in various environments, including saltwater and land. The long-term goal is not only to improve communication between robots and humans but also to enable tiny robots to “talk” to each other and work together. This innovation opens new possibilities for non-invasive medicine and demonstrates how miniaturization technology continues to push the boundaries of science.
28.What is Marc Miskin’s attitude towards the tiny robot?
A.Doubtful. B.Critical. C.Praiseful. D.Unconcerned.
29.What is the robot’s primary source of power?
A.A micro battery. B.Tiny solar cells.
C.Wireless charging. D.Kinetic energy from movement.
30.What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A.The materials used to make the tiny robot. B.The size and appearance of the tiny robot.
C.The way the tiny robot gets energy and moves. D.How the tiny robot communicates with operators.
31.What can we infer from the text?
A.The robot’s computer runs as fast as a modern laptop.
B.The tiny robot can already work effectively in saltwater.
C.Scientists have long been able to build fully functional micro- robots.
D.The tiny robot may reduce the need for invasive medical procedures.
根据第二段中““It’s the first tiny robot to be able to sense, think and act,” said Marc Miskin of the University of Pennsylvania.(宾夕法尼亚大学的Marc Miskin说:“这是第一个能够感知、思考和行动的微型机器人。”)”
根据第三段中“The robot is powered by tiny solar cells that convert light into energy.(这种机器人由微型太阳能电池提供动力,将光转化为能量。)”
根据第三段“The robot is powered by tiny solar cells that convert light into energy. Some of this energy runs its simple computer, which operates at one-thousandth the speed of a modern laptop, while the rest powers movement. To swim through liquid, the robot charges two metal electrodes that attract particles in the water, creating a flow that pulls it forward.(这种机器人由微型太阳能电池提供动力,将光转化为能量。其中一部分能量为其简单的计算机供电,其运行速度是现代笔记本电脑的千分之一,其余的能量则用于驱动运动。为了在液体中游动,机器人对两个金属电极充电,吸引水中的粒子,产生拉动它前进的流动。)”可知,第三段主要介绍了微型机器人获取能量的方式和移动方式。故选C。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“This innovation opens new possibilities for non-invasive medicine and demonstrates how miniaturization technology continues to push the boundaries of science.(这一创新为非侵入性医学开辟了新的可能性,并展示了微型化技术如何继续推动科学的边界。)”

Year after year, Richmond-area schools have been getting greener by the square foot. Garden beds filled with blooming vegetables have taken the place of side yards and other unused outdoor spaces, thanks to dozens of plots planted by the Richmond-based nonprofit Fit4Kids.
It began 15 years ago with the mission to improve the well-being of local youth through physical activity and healthy eating. The group’s programs include movement-based lesson plans for teachers to introduce physical activity into the classroom and an after-school program for young girls to try out active hobbies. Its most visible effort, though, is a series of Learning Gardens, which brings gardening and cooking activities to school-aged children in the Richmond metro area.
“They connect the students to fresh, nutritious foods through planting, growing and harvesting fresh vegetables and herbs,” says Mary Dunne Stewart, Fit4Kids’ CEO. Built on the grounds of participating schools, Learning Gardens typically includes four raised garden beds that act as outdoor classrooms where students plant, nurture and harvest their own food with Fit4Kids gardening specialists throughout the school year. To ensure students can witness the life cycle from seed to harvest, Stewart notes, they mostly plant fast-growing produce such as carrots; they also add herbs to diversify the garden. “These choices also help students learn about different parts of the plant we eat,” she says. “Some are root vegetables, while others provide edible leaves.”
Besides imparting plant-growing skills, Learning Gardens also engages students through tastings of fresh fruits and vegetables, discussions about healthy diets, and activities such as cooking contests, where students are given surprise ingredients and encouraged to experiment. The program also has the benefit of encouraging discussions beyond the classroom.
“It increases the students’ interest in fresh fruits and vegetables,” says Renesha Parks, chief student wellness officer at Richmond Public Schools. “I’ve even seen the kids try fresh broccoli with seasoning, and they absolutely loved it.”
Looking forward, Stewart says, “We really believe that active, well-nourished (营养良好的) children learn more in school, have greater self-esteem and go on to lead healthier, happier lives.”
32.What can be learned about Fit4kids?
A.It turns out largely valueless. B.It replaces traditional classrooms.
C.It is a health-focused organization. D.It aims to improve teachers’ ability.
33.What is paragraph 3 mainly talking about?
A.The significance of physical activity. B.The severity of food shortage.
C.The difficulty in choosing produce. D.The design of Learning Gardens.
34.What does the underlined word “imparting” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Teaching. B.Improving. C.Assessing. D.Mastering.
35.What does Renesha Parks imply in paragraph 5?
A.Schools should expand Learning Gardens.
B.Learning Gardens has a positive effect.
C.Students develop an interest in nutritious food.
D.Education outside classrooms is more important.

To ensure students can witness the life cycle from seed to harvest, Stewart notes, they mostly plant fast-growing produce such as carrots; they also add herbs to diversify the garden. “These choices also help students learn about different parts of the plant we eat,” she says. “Some are root vegetables, while others provide edible leaves.”(Fit4Kids首席执行官玛丽·邓恩·斯图尔特表示:“他们通过种植、培育和收获新鲜蔬菜和香草,让学生接触到新鲜、有营养的食物。”
根据第四段中“Besides imparting plant-growing skills, Learning Gardens also engages students through tastings of fresh fruits and vegetables, discussions about healthy diets, and activities such as cooking contests...(除了imparting植物种植技能,“学习花园”还通过品尝新鲜水果蔬菜、讨论健康饮食以及烹饪比赛等活动吸引学生……)” 故选A项。
根据第五段““It increases the students’ interest in fresh fruits and vegetables,” says Renesha Parks, chief student wellness officer at Richmond Public Schools. “I’ve even seen the kids try fresh broccoli with seasoning, and they absolutely loved it.”(里士满公立学校首席学生健康官员雷内莎·帕克斯说:“这增加了学生们对新鲜水果和蔬菜的兴趣。我甚至看到孩子们尝试加了调味料的新鲜西兰花,他们非常喜欢。”)”可推知,雷内莎·帕克斯暗示学习花园有积极的影响。故选B项。

36.根据上文“In my 20 years as a superintendent (督学), I’ve seen how participating in community service shapes students’ futures for the better. Students are able to take what they have learned and apply it beyond the classroom. They build soft skills as they connect to their community and discover new passions. Volunteering also allows them to see different kinds of workplaces. (在我20年的督学生涯中,我见证了参与社区服务如何更好地塑造学生的未来。学生们能够将所学知识应用到课堂之外。他们在融入社区、发现新爱好的过程中培养软技能。志愿服务还能让他们见识到不同类型的工作场所。)”可知,前文讲述了社区服务能让学生见识不同工作场所,此空应承接该内容说明其作用,C选项“It helps to determine which might be right for them (这有助于他们确定哪种工作场所可能适合自己)”中的“which”指代前文的“different kinds of workplaces”,符合语境。故选C项。
37.根据上文“The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement found that service-learning participation increases the likelihood of college graduation for students by 22 percentage points. (公民学习与参与信息研究中心发现,参与服务型学习能将学生大学毕业的概率提高22个百分点。)”以及下文“Research also shows that students are 25 percent more likely to return to their hometowns after they volunteer in their communities. (——即标准化考试成绩——来判断学生高中毕业后能否成功。如果我们想保持世界曾经见过的最伟大的全球经济的地位,就需要培养出一代不仅能考好试,还能胜任更多事情的毕业生。)”可知,此空应指出教育者过度依赖单一评价指标的现象,B选项“And yet, educators still heavily rely on one indicator (然而,教育工作者仍然严重依赖一种评价指标)”中的“one indicator”对应下文的“a standardized test score”,符合语境。故选B项。
39.根据上文“Almost five years ago, my school district and AASA, The School Superintendents Association, launched a national movement that is redefining what it means to be ready for life after high school. (大约五年前,我所在的学区和美国学校督学协会发起了一项全国性运动,旨在重新定义“为高中毕业后的生活做好准备”的含义。)”以及下文“and they should be measured in different ways. Redefining Ready! compiles (汇总) a variety of research-supported metrics (指标) — from GPA to good attendance to Advanced Placement success to a C or higher in Algebra II — and lays out a new way for educators to view students’ potential.
40.根据上文“So far, 17 states have put Redefining Ready! into their state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) accountability plans. (到目前为止,已有17个州将“重新定义准备就绪”项目纳入了本州的《每位学生成功法案》问责计划中。)”以及下文“And I’m especially excited to see more states use community service as a way to demonstrate readiness. (我尤其期待看到更多州将社区服务作为衡量学生是否准备就绪的一种方式。)”可知,此空应表达对已有成果的自豪之情,G选项“I’m proud of that (我为此感到自豪)”中的“that”指代前文17个州采纳该项目的情况,符合语境。故选G项。

It was a peaceful morning. Adam was on his usual jog at the local park, after which he had to ride his motorcycle home to drop his children - Amanda. 13, and Jared. 8-to school. Owing to financial difficulties, he could not afford a car.
After his wife passed away six years ago, Adam was left alone to care for his children. Thankfully, his eldest daughter, Stacey, 22, would help with the breakfast preparation and get the kids ready every morning when he was out jogging.
Adam looked at his watch. He’d have to go home in thirty minutes. He finished another round of the park and was ready to leave when the sight of an elderly lady stopped him in his tracks.
She was struggling up the park stairs, and just as she neared the top, she lost her footing and fell back down, rolling awkwardly.
“Ma’am!” Adam ran over to the woman quickly. “Are you OK?”
“I’m fine; it was just a little fall,” she replied, but Adam worried she wasn’t fine. He offered to call the ambulance, but she refused.
“Please let me take you to a nearby clinic on my motorcycle, ” he said, offering his arm to her, and she agreed.
They began to chat on their way to the clinic, and the woman introduced herself as Alice. She said she had lost her husband, Frank, for a few years. Her husband was in a business that helped families move. After he passed away, his truck was parked in the garage.
Adam knew how it felt to lose a loved one and he opened up to Alice about his wife, too. As they reached the clinic, the doctor there told Alice that she was fine. Then Adam sent the woman home. Alice wanted to thank Adam so she asked for his address. “I just want to send you something for your kids, and thank you,” she said. Adam hesitantly gave her his address and hurried home to his children.

Nine-year-old Ethann Valdez, born with a form of dwarfism (侏儒症), was preparing for a life-saving heart transplant. When his teachers and schoolmates learned about Ethann’s upcoming surgery (外科手术), they wanted to do something special to show their love and support. The school organized a parade in his honor that included cheering schoolmates, teachers and community members.
The entire student population turned out in full force at the parade. An estimated 600 of Ethann’s schoolmates, some teachers and other supporters gathered for the parade. The parade even included a cheer-leading team and police officers driving in their cruisers. The students held up handmade posters with supportive messages like “We love Ethann” and “Be Strong”.
The parade was a great surprise and heartwarming sight for Ethann and his family. Knowing that their community cared so much for their welfare gave them an added boost (增强) of strength.
Hearing the news of the parade, Ethann felt excited and decided to be present at the parade site. He looked thrilled throughout the parade with a huge smile on his face. Like royalty, he rode through the crowd on a golf cart, waving to the cheering crowd. He also received thoughtful gifts. Ethann said that he felt a little better about his surgery after receiving all of the love and support from his schoolmates. He said he was excited “to be healthier and have more energy”.
Ethann’s surgery was a major success, and his recovery has gone well beyond his doctors’expectations. Barbara, Ethann’s mother excitedly shared the good news on her social media and thanked the community for all their support and prayers.

In my 20 years as a superintendent (督学), I’ve seen how participating in community service shapes students’ futures for the better. Students are able to take what they have learned and apply it beyond the classroom. They build soft skills as they connect to their community and discover new passions. Volunteering also allows them to see different kinds of workplaces. 36 .
The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement found that service-learning participation increases the likelihood of college graduation for students by 22 percentage points. 37 . Research also shows that students are 25 percent more likely to return to their hometowns after they volunteer in their communities.
38 — a standardized test score — to tell us if students will be successful after high school graduation. If we want to stay the greatest global economy the world has ever seen, we need to produce a generation of graduates who can do more than take a test well.
Almost five years ago, my school district and AASA, The School Superintendents Association, launched a national movement that is redefining what it means to be ready for life after high school. 39 , and they should be measured in different ways. Redefining Ready! compiles (汇总) a variety of research-supported metrics (指标) — from GPA to good attendance to Advanced Placement success to a C or higher in Algebra II — and lays out a new way for educators to view students’ potential.
So far, 17 states have put Redefining Ready! into their state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) accountability plans. 40 . And I’m especially excited to see more states use community service as a way to demonstrate readiness.
A.The benefits of community service go beyond higher education
B.And yet, educators still heavily rely on one indicator
C.It helps to determine which might be right for them
D.We know that students learn in all kinds of ways

F.It’s the best way to meet new people
G.I’m proud of that
