If you have difficulty deciding on your book list, the following ideas shared by some great talents might help you out.
Read books from eras past—Albert Einstein
Keeping up with current events and latest books on the bestseller list is a big job, but Albert Einstein thought it was vital to leave some room for older works, too. Otherwise, you'd be “completely dependent on the prejudices and fashions of your times”, he wrote in a 1952 journal article.
Don't jump too quickly from book to book—Seneca
Seneca, a firstcentury Roman philosopher, believed that reading a wide variety of books in too short a time would keep the teachings from leaving a lasting impression on you.“You must linger (停留) among a limited number of master thinkers, if you want to gain ideas which shall win a firm hold in your mind,” he wrote.
Shop at secondhand bookstores—Virginia Woolf
In her essay Street Haunting, Virginia Woolf described the benefits of shopping in secondhand bookstores, where the works “have come together in vast flocks (簇) of various feathers, and have a fascination which the carefully chosen books of the library lack”. According to Woolf, looking through used books gives you the chance to come across something that wouldn't have risen to the attention of librarians and booksellers, who are often much more selective in building their collections than secondhand bookstore owners.
Skip outdated scientific works, but not old literature—Edward BulwerLytton
19thcentury British novelist Edward BulwerLytton was a firm believer in the value of reading old literature.“In science, read, by preference, the newest works; in literature, the oldest,” he wrote in his 1863 essay collection Caxtoniana.“The classic literature is always modern. New books revive and redecorate old ideas; old books suggest and inspire new ideas.”

My daughters are lovely and attractive. The 4yearold has big blue eyes and easy laughter. The 7yearold's long strawberry blond hair and sweet smile are already turning the boys' heads.I love everything about these girls and they know it.
But I try not to tell them they're beautiful. My young daughters are totally innocent about the pressures of being a woman in our society. They know nothing about plastic surgery, diets,“feeling fat”,or eating disorders. We adults know all too much about such things and in the face of this cruel reality we tend to start telling our girls, as soon and often as possible, how beautiful they are. Here's the thing, though. What we're also doing is bringing the beauty pressure home to our littlest girls. The more I talk about beauty and looks, even in a positive way,the more I'm conveying the importance of those things.
However,it doesn't mean I don't praise my girls.Instead of saying “You look beautiful!”, I might say the more specific “Don't you look fancy today!” or “Those colors go so well together.” It means that I treat my daughters not as my little dolls, but as real people who are developing their own sense of self and style. It means that they are in charge of how they look.
Naturally,I buy most of my girls clothes. But I don't usually manage their outfit (整套衣服) choices. My daughters can go girly with necklaces and headtotoe pink,or they can choose to give up dresses altogether.Of course we've seen some mismatching, but they own those styles. They never ask if they look pretty, and they walk with an easy confidence that has nothing to do with what I or anyone else will say about how they look. And that's the confident spirit I want them to take into their teens and adulthood.

For 85 years, the Harvard Study of Adult Development has tracked an original group of 724 people and more than 1,300 of their male and female descendants (后代) over three generations, asking thousands of questions and taking hundreds of measurements to find out what really keeps people healthy and happy.
Through all the years of studying these lives, one crucial factor stands out for the consistency and power of its bond to physical health, mental health and longevity: good relationships.
In 2008, researchers telephoned the wives and husbands of Harvard Study couples in their 80s every night for eight nights.Researchers spoke to each partner separately and asked them a series of questions about their days.
On days when these men and women spent more time in the company of others, they were happier.Like most older people, those in the Harvard Study experienced daytoday rises and falls in their levels of physical pain and health difficulties. But researchers found that the people who were in more satisfying relationships were cushioned (缓冲) somehow from these ups and downs of mood—their happiness did not decline as much on the days when they had more pain.Simply put, their happy marriages seemed to have a protective effect.
Elizabeth Gillespie, a therapist of couples, stated that although most of us found that our experience of relationships might be hard, and at times, impossible, it is essential to our wellbeing.
Today we live in much more complicated environments, so meeting our social needs presents different challenges. We might be sitting on a gold mine of vitality that we are not paying attention to, because it is hidden by the shiny appeal of smartphones or pushed to the side by work demands.

An hour's extra sleep a night can shave 270 calories off people's daily diets, new research suggests—the equivalent of around three chocolate digestive biscuits. Over three years, this could lead to a weight loss of 26 pounds—simply by sleeping more, the researchers said.
A team from the University of Chicago wanted to look at how sleep interacts with obesity and so carried out a clinical trial with 80 adults. Writing in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, they found that young, overweight adults who habitually slept fewer than 6.5 hours a night were able to add an extra 1.2 hours of sleep per night after undergoing counselling to improve their sleeping habits.
The results showed that getting more sleep reduced people's overall intake by an average of 270 calories per day, with some people consuming 500 fewer calories. Dr. Esra Tasali, from the University of Chicago's sleep centre, said the study had not intended to look at weight loss.
“But even within just two weeks, we have quantified evidence showing a decrease in caloric intake and a negative energy balance—caloric intake is less than calories burned,” she said. “If healthy sleep habits are kept over a longer period, this would lead to clinically important weight loss over time. Many people are working hard to find ways to decrease their caloric intake to lose weight—well, just by sleeping more, you may be able to reduce it considerably.”
The study did not attempt to restrict people's diets. Instead, they slept in their own beds, tracked their sleep with wearable devices, and otherwise followed a normal lifestyle without any instructions on diet or exercise. Dr. Tasali said that limiting the use of devices such as mobile phones before bedtime helped people get more sleep. She added, “We saw that after just a single sleep counselling session, participants could change their bedtime habits enough to lead to an increase in sleep time.”

as sb.put(s) it
分析句子结构可知,空处作后置定语,修饰some costumes and actions,且regard与some costumes and actions之间是逻辑上的动宾关系,应用过去分词。
59.on/about 解析:考查介词。view on/about意为“对……的观点/看法”,为固定搭配。
60.wholly 解析:考查副词。空处应用副词修饰形容词different。
61.preparation 解析:考查名词。in preparation for...

One possible version:
Dear Ben,
I'm glad to know that you are keen on Chinese classics. I want to recommend Journey to the West to you.
The novel tells of a story about the Tang monk Xuanzang and his three disciples. They travel west to India and finally attain the true Buddhist scriptures by overcoming numerous difficulties. The Tang monk Xuanzang seems stubborn, weak and incapable, but in the meanwhile, he plays an important role in keeping the team united and bringing out people's kindness and humanity.
You are bound to enjoy yourself while reading the novel and you can share your opinions with me whenever you like.
Yours,
Li Hua
One lunchtime when I was in the third grade will stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had spared no effort to practise my lines with me. But no matter how easily I delivered them at home, every word disappeared from my head as soon as I stepped onstage.
Finally,my teacher took me aside. She explained that she had written a narrator's part to the play, and asked me to switch roles. Her words, kindly delivered, still stung especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn't tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my unease, and instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine on the shelf was turning green.Under the huge elm trees,we could see yellow dandelions(蒲公英) popping through the grass in bunches.
I watched my mother casually bend down by one of the flowers.“I think I'm going to dig up all these weeds,” she said, pulling a flower up by its roots.“From now on,we'll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions,” I protested.“All flowers are beautiful, even dandelions.” My mother looked at me seriously.“Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn't it?” she asked thoughtfully.I nodded, pleased that I had won her over.“And that is true of people too,” she added.“Not everyone can be a princess, so there is no shame in that.”
Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. She listened and smiled reassuringly.

One possible version:
“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said. She encouraged and comforted me as usual,“You just haven't been ready for the stage performance.” Seeing the sadness on my face soften a little, she added,“Why not take the narrator's part as an opportunity to be familiar with the stage?” Her encouragement calmed me down gradually, and I began to accept that the narrator's part was of vital significance.Soon it was the big day.
Backstage on the night of the performance,I felt nervous. But then I found a dandelion in my pocket. I knew my mom passed the flower to me,hoping it would be my lucky charm. After the play,I took home the flower. Mom carefully gazed at the dandelion, gently pressed it into the dictionary and grinned happily at me. Though decades passed, her smile and her words of wisdom have stayed with me and shaped me into who I am now!And this is perhaps the best gift that I've ever received in my life.
