The rule says not to do anything to other people that you would not want them to do to you. It is a very simple yet deep truth. Confucius possessed a lot of important wisdom like this,He encouraged many values like children respecting elders, people respecting their ancestors, and wives respecting husbands,He desired for these moral principles in people's lives and in the government of the country. He believed that people should develop their own personal rules instead of simply memorising rules of behaviour to follow. He also had a thoughtful way of teaching. Instead of presenting his ideas through arguments and reasoning,he taught his rules through personal examples. He himself studied hard and sought truth, dreams and a perfect personality. In short,Confucius aimed to establish a world of great harmony. For over two thousand years, his teachings and beliefs still have a great effect on Chinese culture. When Mark Twain first set eyes on Hawaii in 1866,he observed wild cats were everywhere and that all of them were fat, lazy, and sound asleep. Nearly 160 years later, however, those cats that so delighted Twain are now widely seen as a threat to the islands.
Cats were first brought to Hawaii by ship, where they fed on mice. As their number in their new home grew during the 19th century, birds started to disappear. At least 30 types of native birds went extinct between 1870 and 1930 because of cats, according to the US Geological Survey.
Hawaiian cats don't just threaten birds. Toxoplasmosis(弓形体病)is a disease caused by cats, and then contaminates soil and water through their waste. A new study found that two dolphins died of toxoplasmosis. From these findings the authors suggest that at least 60 dolphins have died of the disease over the past 30 years.
The great majority of the dolphins included in the study were killed by other means. But“ if they do become infected(感染)with toxoplasmosis, this study suggests that they die and they die quickly,"says Kristi West, one of the authors and director of the Health and Stranding Lab at the University of Hawaii.
What can be done? The law that could have directed Hawaii Invasive Species Council to kill cats using poisoned food didn't pass in the state earlier this year. Animal-lovers use some medical methods to keep them from having baby cats. Ms West suggests that people have to stop deserting(抛 弃)these poor cats. She says,"It's not really a cat problem. It's a human problem."
28.What's the function of the first paragraph?
A. To tell us Twain's story. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To give us an example of cats. D. To show cats are threatened.
29.What does the underlined word "contaminates" mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Protects. B. Frees. C. Pollutes. D. Keeps.
30.What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. Dolphins are easy to get infected.
B. Dolphins are killed in other ways.
C. Toxoplasmosis is dangerous to dolphins.
D. Toxoplasmosis quickens death of dolphins.
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Humans should treat cats well. B. Cats are killed by poisoned food.
C.A law has been passed in the state. D. Animal-lovers' methods are helpful.
D
Family vlogging — the frequent recording and uploading of personal videos of the family, usually on video sharing website — has become big business nowadays, especially among parents of young children. The more viewers such videos can get, the more money the family can make. At first thought, it does seem like an easy way to make money. However, are we doing right by putting their lives up for public attention?
For one thing, as the children grow up, they increasingly become aware that what they do needs to be admirable enough for the public to enjoy — Being young children, they also would want to do whatever it takes to please others. They then feel the pressure to be perfect, and as that is something not always possible, they become anxious and stressed. Comments from viewers and the expectations of sponsors (赞助者) can also affect the parents’ reactions towards their children.
Another problem is the lack of privacy in the children’s lives. As the children reach adolescence, there is a greaser need for personal space. At 12 or 13, very few children would appreciate being filmed while eating or having a conversation with their friends. Teenhood is a time of significant change in an individual, both physically and emotionally, and is a time when parents need to protect their children and guide them, instead of exposing them to the eyes of the public.
Family vlogging can be irresistible, given how it allows parents to bring greater fun to their family lives. There is also the easy money and the fame to look forward to. Indeed, all would probably go well, but only as long as parents keep in mind that, if not managed well, making their children live their lives in the unforgiving eyes of the public could prove to be a big mistake.
32.How does vlogging about children’s lives influence the family?
A.Children will get used to public attention.
B.Children may suffer from too much pressure.
C.Parents may show no concern for their children.
D.Parents become addicted to exposing their children to the public.
33.How does the writer mainly develop his argument?
A.By providing examples B.By listing numbers
C.By making comparisons D.By analyzing causes
34.What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the text?
A.To introduce a new big business
B.To show how vlogging influence people’s lives.
C.To persuade parents to watch out for comments from viewers.
D.To convince parents of the danger of vlogging about children’s lives.
35.What’s the writer’s attitude to vlogging about children’s lives?
A.negative B.positive C.neutral D.uninterested
