At the age of 16, Lasse Stolley from Germany went out for a change after graduation from junior high school. Little did he know that this change would take him farther than 500,000 kilometers — all on trains.
Inspired by a movie he had watched online, Stolley bought a Bahncard 100, a ticket that allows unlimited (无限制的) travel on all Deutsche Bahn trains in Germany for a year. But Stolley didn’t just travel on those trains. He made his home on trains, living there full-time. During the day, he took trips and at night, he slept across the seats on high-speed trains.
“I can decide every day where I want to go, whether to the Alps, to a big city or to the sea,” Stolley said.
Each morning, Stolley would check the train connections for the day, and decide what journeys he would take based on the weather and his mood (心情). He might stop off at a swimming pool for a shower, or enjoy the views with a hike between train rides.
While he didn’t pay rent, Stolley said that he had spent around $10,000 a year on living expenses, including his $6,400 train pass and entry cost to things like swimming pools. But since Stolley was a “Platinum” Deutsche Bahn customer, he could eat from Deutsche Bahn for free.
To cover his extra cost, he made a buck on the move by working as a programmer from his laptop In 2023 alone, Stolley spent over 3,700 hours on trains. He also took trains across Europe with an Interrail pass, and travelled as far as Ankara in Turkey. All of his adventures were recorded on his online blog, named “Life on the Train”.
24. What drove Stolley’s interest in travelling by train?
A. A lesson. B. A book. C. A ticket. D. A film.
25 Why was Stolley’s journey special?
A. He lived on trains. B. He never got off the same train.
C. His train journey lasted over a year. D. He didn’t spend any money.
26. What do the underlined words “a buck” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. A choice. B. Paper. C. A difference. D. Money.
27. Which word can best describe Stolley?
A. Honest. B. Adventurous. C. Easygoing. D. Warmhearted.

The 24 Solar Terms (二十四节气) is a traditional Chinese calendar system that reflects the changes of nature, climate, and agricultural activities. Developed over 2,000 years ago, it is based on the Earth’s orbit around the sun and the position of the sun in the zodiac In 2016, it was listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Each solar term lasts about 15 days, and together they divide the year into 24 parts. The terms are closely related to people’s daily lives and farming practices. For example, “Lichun” (Beginning of Spring) marks the start of the spring season, when farmers begin plowing the fields. “Xiazhi” (Summer Solstice) is the longest day of the year, while “Dongzhi” (Winter Solstice) is the shortest. “Ching Ming” (Pure Brightness) is a well-known term associated with tomb-sweeping and enjoying spring scenery.
The 24 Solar Terms also influence Chinese food culture. During “Lixia” (Beginning of Summer), people in southern China eat “five-colored rice” to wish for good health. In northern China, “Dahan” (Major Cold) is the time to eat hot pot and dumplings to keep warm. Additionally, many proverbs related to the solar terms have been passed down, such as “Rain Water nourishes all things” and “Grain in Ear is the season for harvesting wheat.”
Today, although modern calendars are widely used, the 24 Solar Terms still play an important role in Chinese society. They remind people to respect nature’s laws and maintain a harmonious relationship with the environment. Many traditional festivals, such as the Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival, are also closely connected to certain solar terms.
28. What is the basis of the 24 Solar Terms?
A. Agricultural activities in ancient China B. The Earth’s movement around the sun
C. The changes of the moon’s phases D. UNESCO’s cultural heritage standards
29. Which solar term is linked to tomb-sweeping?
A. Lichun B. Xiazhi C. Ching Ming D. Lixia
30. Why do people eat hot pot during Major Cold?
A. To celebrate the harvest B. To wish for good luck
C. To keep their bodies warm D. To honor ancestors
31. What can we learn about the 24 Solar Terms today?
A. They are no longer used in modern life B. They are only important for farmers
C. They connect traditional festivals and nature D. They were created 1,000 years ago
B 29. C 30. C 31. C

After afternoon classes, it’s common to see teenagers take out their phones. Some look through educational apps to review math formulas (数学公式) while others jump into online games or check social media. This daily sight shows the Internet is now part of teens’ lives—they can’t live without it. But it has two sides: helping or hurting them, especially if used unbalanced.
First, the Internet is a strong learning tool. Teens get many things, like free math classes on fun TED-Ed science videos, breaking regular classroom limits. A 2023 survey found 68% of high schoolers use online platforms to help study, and 45% of them got better grades in English, physics and more. It also builds social skills: joining international reading groups lets teens practice talking with different cultures—key for future jobs.
But we can’t overlook its bad parts. A Journal of Adolescent Health study said teens online over 4hours a day are 2.3 times more likely to do badly in school. They put aside homework for games or social media, so test scores drop. Peking University found 31% of teens have sleep problems and 25%gain weight from long sitting and late screen time. What’s worse, some focus on virtual worlds, avoid family, and feel worried offline.
Schools are very important for helping teens use the Internet in a smart way. They need to give classes that teach students useful online skills. In these classes, students learn to tell good educational websites from bad ones, set daily limits on screen time, and notice signs of Internet addiction. Besides, teachers can plan offline activities, like hiking or debate competitions. These activities take teens’ attention away from screens and help them enjoy real-life fun again.
In short, the Internet has two sides. With family, friend and school help, teens can use it well——to grow healthily.

D. By giving examples and numbers.
33. What does the underlined word “virtual” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Real. B. Online. C. Happy. D. Busy.
34. What can schools do to help teens use the Internet wisely?
A. Offer them all kinds of apps.
B. Stop their using the Internet.
C. Teach them to choose good websites.
D. Allow them more time on social media.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Teens’ Daily Life with Phones.
B. Bad Effects of Too Much Screen Time.
C. How Do Schools Help Teens Study Online?.
D. Is the Internet Helpful or Harmful to Teens?.
D 33. B 34. C 35. D
根据文章第二段“Teens get many things, like free math classes on fun TED-Ed science videos, breaking regular classroom limits. A 2023 survey found 68% of high schoolers use online platforms to help study, and 45% of them got better grades in English, physics and more. It also builds social skills: joining international reading groups lets teens practice talking with different cultures—key for future jobs.
根据划线单词上文“A Journal of Adolescent Health study said teens online over 4hours a day are 2.3 times more likely to do badly in school.(《青少年健康期刊》的一项研究指出,每天上网超过4小时的青少年,学业表现不佳的概率是其他人的2.3倍。)”
根据文章第四段“They need to give classes that teach students useful online skills. In these classes, students learn to tell good educational websites from bad ones, set daily limits on screen time, and notice signs of Internet addiction.(它们需要开设课程,向学生传授实用的网络使用技能。在这些课程中,学生能学习如何辨别优质教育网站与不良网站、设定每日屏幕使用时长,以及识别网络成瘾的迹象。)”可知,学校可通过课程教青少年辨别优质网站,帮助他们明智使用互联网。故选C。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“This daily sight shows the Internet is now part of teens’ lives—they can’t live without it. But it has two sides: helping or hurting them, especially if used unbalanced.(这一日常场景表明,互联网已成为青少年生活的一部分——他们的生活离不开互联网。但互联网具有两面性:既能为青少年提供帮助,也可能对他们造成不良影响,尤其是在使用不均衡的情况下。)”以及全文内容可知,文章开篇通过青少年使用手机的场景提出核心观点——互联网对青少年具有两面性;随后分别从“互联网是强大的学习工具”和“互联网存在负面影响”展开论述;最后提出学校的引导作用,始终围绕“互联网对青少年是有益还是有害”这一核心展开。选项D“Is the Internet Helpful or Harmful to Teens?( 互联网对青少年是有益还是有害)”很好地概括了全文内容。

I used to believe confidence belonged to other people. In my class, there were students who could raise a hand without trembling, who could read aloud as if their voices were made for attention. I was not one of them.
When our English teacher announced a storytelling contest, my stomach tightened. “Everyone will try,” she said, smiling as if it were a gift. My classmates began discussing topics immediately. I kept my eyes on my notebook, pretending to be busy.
That afternoon, while I was cleaning the blackboard, I found a crumpled card under the teacher’s desk. It was a judging card from last year, with a sentence written on the back: “Speak to one person, not to a crowd.” I didn’t know who wrote it, but the words felt like a quiet hand on my shoulder.
At home, I practiced in front of the mirror. The mirror offered no applause, only my own nervous face. On the day of the contest, the auditorium lights looked brighter than usual. My hands were cold, and my mouth felt dry. When my name was called, I stepped onto the stage and saw rows of blurred faces. For a moment, I wanted to run.
Then I remembered the card in my pocket.
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: I took a deep breath and searched for just one face in the audience.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: After the contest, I unfolded the card once more and understood it differently.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
I took a deep breath and searched for just one face in the audience. I noticed my English teacher, who was sitting in the front row and giving me a supportive smile. Her smile made me feel that I was not alone and that I had someone who believed in me. I focused on her face and began to tell my story as if I were speaking only to her, ignoring the rest of the crowd. As I spoke, I found that my nervousness gradually faded away, and I felt more and more confident.
Paragraph 2:
After the contest, I unfolded the card once more and understood it differently. The sentence “Speak to one person, not to a crowd” not only gave me courage during the contest but also taught me a valuable lesson. It reminded me that confidence comes from within and that I should not be afraid to express myself, no matter who is listening.
A. A lesson. B. A book. C. A ticket. D. A film.
25. Why was Stolley’s journey special?
A. He lived on trains. B. He never got off the same train.
C. His train journey lasted over a year. D. He didn’t spend any money.
26. What do the underlined words “a buck” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. A choice. B. Paper. C. A difference. D. Money.
27. Which word can best describe Stolley?
A. Honest. B. Adventurous. C. Easygoing. D. Warmhearted.

The 24 Solar Terms (二十四节气) is a traditional Chinese calendar system that reflects the changes of nature climate, and agricultural activities.
D
32. How does the author support the main idea of paragraph 2?
