“Have you checked the oil in the car, Ted?” my father used to say to me. Sometimes our phone calls would begin and end with an only inquiry (询问)about the oil, without asking anything else. Fathers have lots of love to give, but it’s often provided through useful advice. In my experience, it’s mostly about the car.
Why can’t fathers just say “I love you” or “It’s great to see you”? Why can’t the sentences “I care about you” and “You made my life better from the moment you were born” be heard? Because fathers tend to express their true feelings indirectly. You just have to understand the language — Fatherlish
When I was 17 years old, I went on my first road trip in that old car. My father stood on the corner on a cold early morning to say goodbye. “Roads are dangerous,” he said, “so don’t try driving faster than a horse. And remember to take a break every two hours. And every time you stop for gas, you really should check the oil.” At the time I thought his speech was pretty funny and old.
Dad’s long gone now. But after all these years, I realize that if I had owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I would have understood that the speech that I always laughed at was simply Dad’s way to express love and care.
4. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. The author wanted to buy a new car badly.
B. The author forgot to check the oil regularly.
C. The author’s father expressed his love differently.
D. The author’s father preferred to make phone calls.
5. Why does the author mention his first road trip?
A. To show the danger of the trip. B. To present his father’s hidden love.
C. To explain the rules of driving. D. To tell a very exciting experience.
6. How does the author feel about his father’s speech at last?
A. Funny. B. Traditional. C. Caring. D. Old.
7. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Speaking Fatherlish B. Making Phone Calls
C. Taking Helpful Advice D. Checking the Oil
C 5. B 6. C 7. A

根据第一段““Have you checked the oil in the car, Ted?” my father used to say to me. Sometimes our phone calls would begin and end with an only inquiry (询问)about the oil, without asking anything else. Fathers have lots of love to give, but it’s often provided through useful advice. In my experience, it’s mostly about the car.(“泰德,你检查过车里的机油了吗?” 父亲过去常常这样对我说。有时候,我们的电话总是以询问机油情况开始,也以询问机油情况结束,除此之外,什么都不问。父亲有很多爱要表达,但这份爱往往通过实用的叮嘱来传递。在我的记忆里,他的关心大多都和汽车有关)”可知,作者的父亲常通过询问汽车机油等实用建议来表达爱,而非直接诉说,说明他表达爱的方式与众不同。故选C项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段作者描述17岁第一次公路旅行时父亲的叮嘱,以及第四段“But after all these years, I realize that if I had owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I would have understood that the speech that I always laughed at was simply Dad’s way to express love and care.(但这么多年过去,我才明白,如果我当时有一本《父亲式语言 — 英语》词典,就会懂得那些我曾嗤之以鼻的话语,其实正是爸爸表达爱与关怀的方式)”可知,作者提及此次旅行,是为了通过父亲当时的叮嘱,展现父亲隐藏在话语中的爱。
根据第四段“But after all these years, I realize that if I had owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I would have understood that the speech that I always laughed at was simply Dad’s way to express love and care.(但这么多年过去,我才明白,如果我当时有一本《父亲式语言 — 英语》词典,就会懂得那些我曾嗤之以鼻的话语,其实正是爸爸表达爱与关怀的方式)”可知,多年后作者明白父亲的话语是表达爱与关怀的方式,因此最终觉得父亲的话是充满关怀的。
根据第二段中“Because fathers tend to express their true feelings indirectly. You just have to understand the language — Fatherlish.(因为父亲往往间接地表达他们的真实感情。你只需要理解他们的语言——父亲式语言)”以及最后一段中“But after all these years, I realize that if I had owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I would have understood that the speech that I always laughed at was simply Dad’s way to express love and care.(但是经过这么多年,我意识到如果我有一本父亲式的语言翻译词典的话,我会理解我以前总是嘲笑的那些语言只是爸爸表达爱和关心的简单的方式)”可知,本文主要讲述爸爸用父亲式的语言表达对作者的父爱。 故选A项。

For many teens (青少年), Saturday mornings are a time to sleep in. After a busy week of waking up early, weekends offer a chance to catch up on rest. A new study finds that sleeping in on weekends — as long as it’s not for more than two additional hours — may help teens feel less anxious (焦虑的).
Sleep is very important for everyone, especially teens, because it helps the brain and body work properly. However, 75% of American teens do not get the recommended (推荐) 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. School, homework, and other activities require early wake-ups, and teens usually find it difficult to fall asleep before 11 pm.
In the past, research has suggested that sleeping too much on weekends could cause health problems. But no one had looked closely at how weekend sleep affects anxiety.
Sojeong Kim, a researcher from the University of Oregon, decided to study this. She focused on teens aged 12 to 15, as this is when sleep problems often start. The study used data from around 1,900 teens who had filled out questionnaires about their feelings of anxiety.
The results showed that teens who slept in on weekends had lower anxiety, but only if they slept for less than two additional hours. Teens who didn’t sleep in-or lost sleep on the weekend-reported higher anxiety levels. Those who slept in more than two additional hours had the most anxiety of all.
Kim believes that sleeping too much on weekends can cause “social jet lag”, just like the tiredness people feel when they travel across time zones. For now, she wants teens to know there can be benefits to sleeping in on the weekend. “Getting a little more sleep on weekends might help you feel less anxious,” she says. “But sleeping too much may make things worse.”
12. What does the author want to point out in paragraph 2?
A. It’s hard for teens to get enough sleep.
B. Too much homework is harmful to kids.
C. Most teens sleep for over eight hours.
D. Adults enjoy sleeping late on workdays.
13. What were the teens in the study asked to do?
A. Finish a test paper. B. Answer some questions.
C. Write a diary entry. D. Go to bed early every day.
14. What did the study show about teens sleeping in over two additional hours on weekends?
A. They avoided “social jet lag”. B. They felt calm in the classroom.
C. They experienced higher anxiety. D. They reported a look of satisfaction.
15. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. How Early Wake-ups Affect Teens B. The Best Time for Teens to Sleep
C. How Teens End Struggles at School D. Teens’ Catch-up Sleep on Weekends
A 13. B 14. C 15. D

根据第二段中“However, 75% of American teens do not get the recommended (推荐) 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. School, homework, and other activities require early wake-ups, and teens usually find it difficult to fall asleep before 11 pm.(然而,75%的美国青少年每晚没有得到推荐的8到10小时的睡眠。学校、家庭作业和其他活动需要早起,青少年通常发现晚上11点前很难入睡)”可知,本段主要指出青少年很难得到足够的睡眠。故选A项。
根据第四段中“The study used data from around 1,900 teens who had filled out questionnaires about their feelings of anxiety.(这项研究使用了大约1900名青少年的数据,他们填写了关于自己焦虑感的问卷)”可知,研究中的青少年被要求填写关于焦虑感的问卷,即回答一些问题。
根据倒数第二段中“Those who slept in more than two additional hours had the most anxiety of all.(那些周末多睡两个多小时的人焦虑感最强)”可知,周末多睡两个多小时的青少年经历了更高的焦虑。
通读全文,结合第一段中“A new study finds that sleeping in on weekends — as long as it’s not for more than two additional hours — may help teens feel less anxious (焦虑的).(一项新的研究发现,周末适当补觉——只要不超过两个小时——可能有助于减轻青少年的焦虑感)”可知,本文主要介绍了青少年周末补觉的现象,研究发现周末适当补觉可能有助于减轻焦虑,但过度补觉可能会加剧焦虑,故D项“Teens’ Catch-up Sleep on Weekends (青少年周末补觉)”概括文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选D项。

E 17. A 18. B 19. F 20. G
上文“Most of us have one or a few bad habits that we’d like to get out of. (我们多数人或多或少都会有些想要摆脱的坏习惯。)”引入了文章的话题,摆脱坏习惯,E项“但是你该怎么做呢”进行设问,下文“I have a few suggestions that have helped me and people around me.(我有一些建议,这些建议曾帮助过我和我周围的人。)”
下文“If you tell people around you that you will stop smoking or start to exercise three times a week, then they will check up on you. And you will feel you have to keep your promise because it is let out into the world.(如果你告诉身边的人,你想要戒烟或是一周锻炼三次,那么他们就会帮助监督你。你就会觉得你必须遵守诺言,因为你已经把它昭告天下了。)”讲的是可以通过告诉身边的人自己要戒掉某个坏习惯来摆脱,因为他们会监督你,从而让你想要为自己说过的话负责,去戒掉你的坏习惯。则设空处的内容对应的是戒掉坏习惯的第一条建议:A项“告诉你的朋友或家人”。其中下文的“tell people around you”与A项的“Tell your friends and family”对应。故选A项。
是戒掉坏习惯的第二条建议,B项“了解是什么让你形成了坏习惯”提出避开诱惑的做法是,了解你会受什么诱惑形成坏习惯,其中B项的“what”对应上文的“temptations”,下文“Places where you are likely to spend too much money. Things in your cupboard that will not help you to get healthier and you should not have at home at all. And people that drag (拉) you down and back into your old ways. (比如,一些你可能会大花一笔的地方;橱柜里的东西,那种不利于健康、完全不应放家里的东西;或者是那些把你拖下水、让你变回老样子的人。)”则举出了可能让你形成坏习惯的诱惑的例子。所以B项符合题意。故选B项。
【19题详解】
下文“It may seem like a good idea to change your life all at once. In our daily life, stress and lack (缺乏) of energy usually lead to failure. Don’t try to be Superman or Wonder Woman. Take it easy and break one habit at a time.(一下子改变你的生活似乎是个好主意。在我们的日常生活中,压力和缺乏能量通常会导致失败。不要试图成为超人或神奇女侠。放轻松,一次改掉一个习惯。)”讲的是我们很难一下子摆脱所有的坏习惯,应该按部就班,一次只摆脱一个习惯。由此可知,设空处对应的第三条戒掉坏习惯的建议是F项“不要想着一次戒掉一个以上的坏习惯”。其中下文的“It”指代F项的“break more than one habit at a time”。故选F项。
下文“You will probably not succeed the first time you do it. You fail and you make mistakes when you make changes and try new things. That’s just life and nothing to feel bad about. What you should do next is try again.(你很可能第一次并不会成功戒掉。当你做出改变,尝试新事物的时候,你会失败,犯错。生活就是这样的,你不必觉得这样很不好。你应该做的就是继续尝试。)”讲的是人们尝试戒掉坏习惯的时候,往往不会一次就能成功,但这是正常的,应该继续尝试戒掉。由此可知,设空处的内容应为G项“如果一开始你没有成功,请再试一次”,下文是对G项这一观点的解释。所以G项符合题意。故选G项。

Hearing that you need some advice on what to talk about in your lecture on English learning. I’m writing to give you some suggestions.
First of all, perhaps you could focus on English listening and speaking skills, as many students especially those in Grade One are struggling with them. Your practical tips, such as how to improve listening accuracy and how to speak English naturally and fluently, would be helpful. What’s more, introducing some effective and creative ways to enlarge English vocabulary is a wise choice. After all, a rich vocabulary allows us to accurately interpret passages and convey our ideas thoroughly. Additionally, why not add a Q&A session? In this way, students may get immediate feedback in the interactive activity.
Hopefully, my suggestions will be of some help and wish your lecture a great success.

I never thought my father’s job could change my life so much. One evening he came home and told us his company was sending him to another city. At first, I didn’t worry, thinking it might be a short trip or just a small change. But then he added that because he and Mom would both be very busy, I would have to go to a boarding (寄宿) school. The word “boarding” made me unhappy. It meant leaving my neighborhood, my old school, and most of all, my best friend June.
June and I grew up together. We rode bikes in the summer, shared secrets at night, and laughed until our stomachs hurt. When I told her about the move, she tried to smile. “It’s okay,” she said quickly. “We’ll call every weekend. We’ll always be best friends,” she added. I wanted to believe her, so I agreed, holding on to her promise. Still, deep inside, a small voice raised doubts: Would things really stay the same once I left?
The new school was nothing like home. The buildings were big, and the students all were friendly, but I still missed home and June. At Saturday night, I sat on my dormitory (学生宿舍) bed waiting for June’s call. At first, we talked a lot, but soon our calls grew shorter. Sometimes she didn’t answer right away. When she did, she often talked about a new student named Emily. “Emily is so cool,” June said once, laughing through the phone. I forced myself to laugh too, but inside I felt hurt.
I told myself I didn’t care, but the truth was that I cared too much. I imagined Emily taking my place, walking beside June, and telling her jokes that used to be mine. I grew jealous (妒忌的). Soon I stopped answering her calls. I left her texts unread. At night, I cried quietly into my pillow, telling myself June didn’t need me anymore.
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One Saturday morning, I heard my name called outside the dormitory. To my surprise, it was June, her eyes tired from the long journey. She told me she had been worried when I stopped answering her calls. After begging her parents for permission, she decided to visit me. Sitting together on the bench, she explained gently, “You and Emily are both my friends, but you are unique.” I heard those words, and my sadness melted away. The fear that had been pressing on me for weeks lifted, replaced by the warmth of knowing I still mattered to her.
The next afternoon, I saw June off at the train station. We stood there, not wanting to let go, our eyes filled with both sadness and hope. The train whistle blew, pulling us apart, but inside I felt steady. I knew distance would never break what we shared. There would be phone calls, messages, and visits, each one keeping our ties alive. Walking back alone, I realized true friendship is not measured by how often we are together, but by the certainty that we remain close, even miles apart.

A Funny. B. Traditional. C. Caring. D. Old.
7. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Speaking Fatherlish B. Making Phone Calls
C. Taking Helpful Advice D. Checking the Oil

I never thought my father’s job could change my life so much. One evening he came home and told us his company was sending him to another city. At first I didn’t worry, thinking it might be a short trip or just a small change.

(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
