This virtual (虚拟的) school year, however, didn’t give me that same feeling. In my mind, I couldn’t communicate with my classmates, and I couldn’t have conversations with my favorite teachers. So I went to bed, filled with more curiosity (好奇) and uncertainty than anything else. I woke up the next day at 9 a. m., as my first class that day didn’t start until 10 a. m. I sat at my desk waiting for my first online class of the day: AP Statistics. The class could only be described as two things: awkward and a bit boring. Awkward because of the lasting silence that often fell over us, as most of the students, myself included, refused to discuss their summers, and boring because I had to look at a screen instead of truly communicating with my teacher. I would have preferred sitting in a classroom wearing my picked first-day clothes, but, I didn’t say anything. I knew it was much safer for us to learn from home. Once the class ended, my one-hour lunch block began. My virtual lunch was at 11:20 a. m. My next two classes flew by. They had the same awkwardness and boredom, with different levels of enjoyability according to the subject and teacher. At the end of the day, I felt strange, and like I hadn’t done anything at all or even actually gone to school. I never felt like I hadn’t done anything with myself that day before. I didn’t even feel like a student on a “pursuit (追求) of knowledge.” I just felt like I was watching something on my computer screen. It wasn’t my favorite thing in the world, but, it’s the new normal (常态), and I and my classmates will have to get used to it. 21. How did the writer feel the night before the first day of school? A. He was too excited to fall asleep. B. He was unsure about what would happen. C. He couldn’t wait to meet his classmates. D. He was looking forward to online learning. 22. Why did the writer feel bored in AP Statistics class? A. He thought the class was valueless. B. He couldn’t understand what the teacher said. C. He felt the unhappiness of his classmates. D. He couldn’t have real communication with the teacher. 23. What can we say about the writer at the end of the day? A. He felt empty in his heart. B. He preferred to have a class online. C. He hated to do much homework. D. He had got used to the new school life. B After entering high school, you may find there are many clubs at your school. You may think you’re too busy to join one. But as a former high school student, I can tell you joining a school club can greatly profit you. Your old friends may have left you after entering high school. And it means you need to meet new people. Joining a club allows you to talk with others and find those who have similar interests as you. Based on my experience, I have met some of my best friends from club activities, which opened up many new doors for me. Another really nice thing about joining a club is that it looks really good on college applications. Trying new things is something that looks really good on any application. Outgoing is considered a very good quality which shows that you are determined and ready to put yourself out there and best of all try new things. Furthermore, it can help you develop skills that can serve you during future college interviews. Besides, joining a club can make students use their free time wisely. Most teens go to schools, then go back home and spend the rest of the day in front of a screen. Teens are also very likely to fall into the wrong crowd, which could lead to some bad results. Clubs are good places to spend time with good people to fall back on. The most important reason why you should join a club is the long- term benefits (益处) it brings. The classroom isn’t the only learning environment in a school. The skills you learn in clubs are necessary ones that can be used in everyday life, which I think is the final goal of joining a club. Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, making the most of time, and being organized are those you will meet every single day of your life, but you can learn all of them in clubs. So if you haven’t joined a school club yet, you know what you should do now. 24. What do colleges think highly of according to the text? A. The number of clubs you have joined. B The strong relationships you have built. C. The bright personality you have developed. D. The similar interests you share with other students. 25. What is the best title for the text? A. Why Should You Join a Club? B. What Club Should You Join? C. How Can You Join a Club You Like? D. Should You Join a Second Club? 26. In which section of a magazine may this text appear? A. Health. B. School life. C. Culture. D. Social work. C Thirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends — 532, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them. But is it possible that Kaylee’s online friendship could be making her lonely? That’s what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendship. Could this be true? During your parents’ childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words With Friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other. Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teenager sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of his time is spent on social media platforms (平台) like Instagram and Facebook. In fact, in many ways, online communication enables frlendship to be stronger. “There’s obviously a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation. Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendship. “If we are constantly checking out our virtual (虚拟的) world, we will be addicted and have little time for our real-world friendship,” says Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today’s kids might mistake the “friends” on social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don’t need someone to like. your pictures or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face. 27. What is the purpose of the first paragraph? A. To summarize the text. B. To tell something about true friends. C. To bring up a topic. D. To encourage online friendship. 28. What does the underlined part “in the flesh” mean in Paragraph 3? A. In any case. B. In person. C. In a hurry. D. In advance. 29. What is Katie’s attitude towards online communication? A. Positive. B. Unconcerned. C. Confused. D. Worried. 30. What view does Rosen hold? A. It’s wise to turn to online friend. B. It’s easier to develop friendships in reality. C. Social media help people stay closely connected. D. Teenager on real-world friendships. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Some people succeed, while others do not. My teacher, Mr. Liu had divided the class into groups to do speeches. Today was my turn. However, my hands shook so badly that I couldn’t read my notes. My voice became softer even to silence. Mr. Liu kindly ended my part of speech even though I clearly didn’t finish. He also asked me to stay after class for a moment. “Betty, I know you are shy, but you worked so hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Mr. Liu said, “If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find courage?” I nodded, grateful for the chance. I went as quickly as I could to my next class, keeping my head down and hoping the school day would end soon. When I reached home that afternoon I could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Mum was baking(烘焙). She studied my face as I came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, Betty?” Tears shone in my eyes. I told her the whole story. Mum was silent for a moment with her hands busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything but you can’t talk to your class?” Mum asked. She set the time right and then said, “Let me show you something.” I followed her to the bedroom. There she showed me a book filled with pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon(丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents. “I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn’t easy at first—not sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my tears. But still no answer came out. Soon the cake was finished. We went back to the kitchen for the baked cake. Mum cut a slice for the sweet cake and handed it to me, saying, “You can make it.” I raised the warm cake to my mouth. It was so delicious and fragrant. Suddenly I knew where I could find my courage. It was from my mum’s love. The next day I walked to the front of the classroom to give my speech. Seeing the quiet classroom, I couldn’t help but feel nervous again, my mind going blind and my voice trembling. Then I saw the blue ribbon which my mum tied to my wrist. I thought of Mum’s warm cake, her love and her inspiring experience. Then I took a deep breath and gave my speech with confidence. This time there was no fear any more but a big success and a round of applause. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一部分。听力。第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题,每段对话仅读一遍。I have told you many times, if everyone littered like you, the earth wouldn't be livable. Ever since then, my wife has decided not to hire another person. Well, IT sounds like I was for the best. You know, if you ever need a babysitter, I will be happy to do IT.
