“Reduce, reuse, recycle”—you may have heard these three words from people who care about our Earth. But how can we really do them? A great example is happening at the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring in Dunhuang, Gansu.
During the busy tourist season, about 20,000 visitors come every day. Cleaning up all the trash (垃圾) became a big problem. To solve this, the tourist place started a fun activity: “Collect Trash for Gifts.” They give visitors trash bags and ask them to pick it up. For their help, visitors get small gifts about Dunhuang’s special culture.
Some people don’t think it’s a good idea. “It’s just for the gifts,” one visitor said. “Without gifts, few would pick up trash.” However, I disagree. I think it is a wonderful way to follow the “reduce, reuse, recycle” idea. I remember visiting places where trash was everywhere. It makes the place dirty and also hurts the nature. Once, I saw a family happily picking up trash. Their children were excited to exchange the full bags for gifts. The parents told them that their small actions helped make the place cleaner for everyone. It made all visitors feel like a team.
This “Collect Trash for Gifts” activity does more than just cleaning. It makes every visitor a helper in protecting the environment. This good idea is not only in Dunhuang. Similar activities are also in other places in China, like in Jiangxi and Xi’an. It shows a happy trend (趋势): When we go out to enjoy nature’s beauty, we can also do a little to protect it. The real question is: how can we make this caring habit last longer than just one trip?
41. Are there about 20,000 visitors coming to the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring every day?

42. What can visitors get in return after they collect trash at the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring?

44. In the passage, a visitor says, “It’s just for the gifts. Without gifts, few would pick up trash.” But the writer thinks the activity is a good idea. Do you agree with the visitor or the writer? Why?

When you’re trying to make friends, you’ll probably meet someone who just doesn’t like you, though you’ve never done anything to him or her. Well, what should you do? Here’s some advice.
Gossip (流言蜚语) can make meeting new people difficult, especially when people hear something bad about you. It can prevent someone from getting to know you at all. When you’re in a situation like this, it feels bad. Instead of trying to win them over (说服), however, just be yourself. As time goes by, they will see that the gossip about you is wrong. Or they may choose to believe it. Don’t worry about it and move on by being friendly to the kind people.
You’d think that your friend’s friends would also become your friends. But it doesn’t work that way. Sometimes people are happy with the friendships they have, and they aren’t interested in adding any more. If someone chooses not to be friends with you just because you’re new to the group, it’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with you or them.
An even more difficult situation is when someone has met you and just doesn’t like you. Every joke you make is taken the wrong way. Every time you try to do something nice, they find fault (找茬儿). As much as it hurts, accept that not everyone is going to be your friend. Don’t take it personally. These things could happen to everyone. There are just some people you won’t like.
In a word, if someone doesn’t want to be your friend, that’s okay. Don’t get angry with them because it’s their choice. Instead, give your time and attention to the people who are interested in being with you.
Problem
Someone dislikes you ____62____.
Situation 1
Cause: Gossip.
Solution: Just be yourself and ____63____ others.
Conclusion
Cause: They are happy with current (当前的) friends, so ____64____.
Solution: Accept there’s nothing wrong with anyone.
Cause: People just don’t like you. They misunderstand your jokes and find fault.

Attitude: ____65____ people who are interested in you instead of getting angry.

My AI Family Assistant in 2046
In 2046, my AI family assistant Huihui makes our life wonderful. Firstly, she creates healthy diet plans and reminds us to exercise, which helps everyone stay fit. Secondly, she can teach me any subject patiently, making study easier and more fun.
Huihui also brings us closer. She suggests family games and tells funny stories, becoming a common topic for us. When someone feels sad, her warm words provide comfort. Now, we talk and laugh more together because of her. Huihui isn’t just a machine; she’s truly helpful.
