In Grade 8, students are all special, but they also share many things. Some love reading books, while others enjoy playing sports. However, they all want to have a happy school life and make friends. Last month, Class 8A got a special task: to make a class magazine. This project showed everyone how important differences can be.
Anna is good at writing. She wrote funny stories and interesting articles for the magazine. Tom loves taking photos. He walked around the school, took beautiful pictures of trees, flowers, and classmates playing games, and put them in the magazine. Sarah is a great artist. She drew colourful pictures to make the magazine look more beautiful. At first, some students thought their different ways of working might make trouble. But as they worked together, they found that these differences made the magazine special. When the magazine came out, all the students in the school liked it!
Just like different pieces in a puzzle (拼图) make a complete (完整的) picture, differences among people make our world better. When we respect and welcome these differences, we can learn new things and work better as a team. No matter it’s in school projects or daily life, our differences help us grow and create wonderful things together.
3. According to the passage, what do the students in Class 8A have in common?
A. They all love reading books.
B. They all enjoy playing sports.
C. They all want to have a happy school life and make friends.
4. What did Tom do for the class magazine?
A. He wrote funny stories.
B. He drew colourful pictures.
C. He took pictures of the school and classmates.
5. Why does the author compare differences to puzzle pieces?
A. Because everyone likes playing with puzzles.
B. Because different puzzle pieces have the same shape.
C. Because differences help create a better world.
6. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Ways of Playing Puzzles B. The Magic of Differences C. Tips for Writing Stories
C篇
Don’t let your kids drag their feet (拖拖拉拉) over doing housework. Help them to make the boring housework enjoyable.
1 Work as a team. A simple and great way to make cleaning fun is to do it together. Play some beautiful music while you are doing housework. Then you won’t feel bored.
2 Get lucky. If your kids like surprises, write housework on ice cream and have each kid pick one. Tell them they can change their picks if each of them agrees. In this way, they will have a feeling of making a choice.
3 Make it playtime. Turn “kitchen time” into a party. Let one child be a cook and another be a DJ. The cook chooses to help make dinner. The DJ chooses the music to play. Everyone can dance around the kitchen while preparing dinner or cleaning up the kitchen later.
4 Find more difficult housework. One of my friends was trying to get her kids to help out around the house, and someone advised her to give the kids some things like candies or toys as rewards. The advice worked like magic. However, rewards usually don’t work for long because kids will be bored with doing the same housework all the time. At this time, give them some difficult housework. If they can already help clean the cage (笼子) of the pet well, make it harder by having them clean the cage all by themselves. Then, ask them to clean it faster.
7. What is tip 1 about?
A. Doing housework together with kids.
B. Showing your kids good ways of doing housework.
C. Giving kids some surprises.
8. Which is a great way to make kids do housework actively (积极地)?
A. Turning “kitchen time” into “party time”.
B. Asking them to do difficult housework all the time.
C. Letting them eat ice cream whenever they want.
9. The underlined word “rewards” is similar to “ ”.
A. trips B. gifts C. ideas
10. In which part of a newspaper may we read this passage?
A. Famous People. B. Family Life. C. Short Stories.

We live in a world with robots and space stations. Soon, we might have moon bases (基地) and trips to Mars. What was once science fiction is becoming real. Many of these ideas were first imagined by writers, and one of the most amazing was Isaac Asimov. Now, as we celebrate 75 years of his famous space book, Foundation, let’s take a rocket ship ride into his amazing life and work.
Asimov was born in Russia on Jan 2, 1920, and moved to the United States in 1923. He loved science fiction as a child. Though he studied chemistry and got a PhD (博士), writing was what he really cared about. In 1939, he sold his first story, Marooned off Vesta, to a magazine. He continued to write more stories about science and other topics. He was well-known for his science-fiction stories. He also wrote Asimov’s Guide to Shakespeare and worked as a biochemistry (生物化学) professor at Boston University.
Asimov won the Hugo Award for Best All-Time Series in 1966 for his Foundation series (系列). He also wrote I, Robot. This book changed the way people saw robots, making them smart and kind. He created the Three Laws of Robotics, which taught people to think carefully about how to make robots safe and helpful.
His stories of robots and space adventures (冒险) influenced other writers. Without him, we might never have had Frank Herbert’s Dune or Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem.
Asimov helped change the way people saw science fiction. His stories continue to shape our world today.

阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
