第四部分 写作(共两节,满分35分)
应用文写作
Good morning, my dear teachers and fellows students! I’m greatly honored to stand here to deliver my speech. As we all know, our planet is our beautiful home, where wildlife and humans should have lived together harmoniously. However, more and more wildlife is faced with extinction, whose habitats are becoming smaller as new roads and railways were built. Even worse, to make profits, hunters are killing wildlife.
It’s high time that we should change our way of life and stop hunting wildlife. “When the buying stops, the killing can too.” If everyone refuses to buy any products made from wildlife, the killing can be stopped. Only when we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to our planet. That’s all.
Thank you!

After this embarrassing English class, I decided I had to do something to change my situation. I began by borrowing English novels from the library and reading them aloud in my room every night. I also started writing short English diaries to express my daily feelings. At school, I took every chance to practice with classmates, even if it meant making mistakes. Mrs. Sabrina noticed my efforts and, surprisingly, offered to help me after class. Her guidance, though strict, was invaluable.
By the end of my eighth-grade year, something remarkable happened. My English had improved dramatically. I could now participate confidently in class discussions and even won the school’s English-speaking competition. What’s more, I found myself enjoying the beauty of English literature, which was something I had never imagined before. Mrs. Sabrina praised me in front of the whole class, saying I had shown great perseverance. The once-laughing classmates now admired me, and I finally felt I belonged at DPS.

Every December, dictionaries worldwide pick their Words of the Year — terms that show how people talked and understood the world that year. In 2025, these chosen words are quite special. They cover topics like AI and popular but meaningless online content. Here are some 2025 Words of the Year from different dictionaries.
Oxford word of the year: Rage bait
If you’ve spent the year being fooled into feeling angry by a headline, video, or image that is designed on purpose to ruin your mood, congratulations — you’ve been rage baited. Oxford’s pick reflects the rise of content designed to annoy or divide people. In other words: the Internet’s favourite thing.
Macquarie Dictionary word of the year: AI slop
Slightly more abstract, but still perfect-fitting, Australia’s Macquarie Dictionary chose a term that only could have been created in 2025. “AI slop” describes generative-AI output that feels lazy, empty, or just wrong. If you clicked on that video of cats dancing, you’ve been a victim of AI slop.
Cambridge Dictionary word of the year: Parasocial
Cambridge went with a word that’s been slowly building up for years: “parasocial.” Originally an academic term, it now broadly describes the one-sided relationships we form with creators, celebrities, and influencers. It’s the perfect description for an era where you know your favourite YouTuber’s morning routine, or the personal details of a TikToker’s breakup, but they don’t know you exist.
Dictionary. com word of the year: 67
Honestly, we still don’t know what this means, but Dictionary. com did something different this year with “67”, a number that took on new meaning in 2025. While its specific meaning is context-dependent — originally coming from TikTok — this choice shows that language has developed far beyond just letters.
21. Which of the following is an example of “rage bait”?
A. A video of cute cats dancing online. B. A headline designed to make readers angry.
C. An AI-written story with no real meaning. D. A number that becomes popular on TikTok.
22. Which Word of the Year has an uncertain but context-based meaning?
A. Rage bait B. AI slop C. Parasocial D. 67
23. What is unusual about the 2025 Words of the Year?
A. They focus on traditional culture. B. They are all from daily communication.
C. They connect with AI and online content. D. They are created by major dictionaries.
B
Home to me means a sense of familiarity and nostalgia (怀旧). It’s fun to come home. It looks the same. It smells the same. You’ll realize what’s changed is you. Home is where we can remember pain, life, and some other experiences; We parted here; My parents met here; I won three championships here.
If I close my eyes, I can still have a clear picture in mind of my first home. I walk in the door and see a brown sofa surrounding a low glass-top wooden table. To the right of the living room is my first bedroom. It’s empty, but it’s where my earliest memories are.
There is the dining room table where I celebrated birthdays, and where I cried on Halloween-when I didn’t want to wear the skirt my mother made for me. I always liked standing on that table because it made me feel tall and strong. If I sit at this table, I can see my favorite room in the house, my parents’ room. It is simple: a brown wooden dresser lines the right side of the wall next to a television and a couple of photos of my grandparents on each side. Their bed is my safe zone. I can jump on it anytime — waking up my parents if I am scared or if I have an important announcement (宣布) that cannot wait until the morning.
I’m lucky because I know my first home still exists. It exists in my mind and heart, on a physical property (住宅) on West 64th street on the western edge of Los Angeles. It is proof I lived, I grew and I learned.
Sometimes when I feel lost, I lie down and shut my eyes, and I go home. I know it’s where I’ll find my family, my dogs, and my belongings. I purposely leave the window open at night because I know I’ll be blamed by Mom. But I don’t mind, because I want to hear her say my name, which reminds me I’m home.
24. Why does the author call her parents’ bed her “safe zone”(Paragraph 3)?
A. It is her favorite place to play.
B. Her needs can be satisfied there.
C. Her grandparents’ photos are lined on each side.
D. Her parents always play together with her there.
25. What can be learned from the passage?
A. The old furniture is still in the author’s first bedroom.
B. The author can still visit her first physical home in Los Angeles.
C. The author’s favorite room in her first home is the dining room.
D. Many people of the author’s age can still find their first physical homes.
26. Sometimes when she feels lost, the author will _______.
A. open the window at night B. lie down in bed to have a dream
C. go to Los Angeles to visit her mom D. try to bring back a sense of home
27. What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage?
A. To express her strong love for her home.
B. To look back on her childhood.
C. To describe the state of her family.
D. To show how much she loves her first house.

On Thursday, at its 20th regular meeting in India’s capital, a UNESCO committee decided to move China’s “Hezhen Yimakan storytelling” from the Urgent (急需的) Protection List to the World Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. In recognition of the great progress made in preserving this tradition, the committee also decided to include the protection program for Hezhen Yimakan storytelling in the Register of Good Protection Practices. This achievement marks a successful transition (过渡) of a heritage project into the representative list. It’s also the first example of a project that has been transitioned and added to the Register of Good Protection Practices at the same time.
China now has 45 projects included in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage lists, the highest number of entries of any country in the world.
The Hezhe people live in the Heilong-Songhua-Ussuri-river region of northeastern China. With a population of just over 5,000, they are among China’s smallest ethnic (民族的) groups, Yimakan storytelling is a rich oral tradition that has been passed down through generations. It is performed in the Hezhe language. It mixes spoken stories with singing to share the history, hero tales, fishing and hunting life, traditions, and values of the Hezhe people. This tradition plays a key role in recording history, educating future generations, and providing fun.
Since it was added to the Urgent Protection List in 2011, many have collaborated to help this tradition. Community members, artists, schools, cultural centers, and government bodies have all made efforts to make sure it stays alive and becomes better known.
In December 2023, China sent a report to UNESCO about how this cultural heritage was being protected, and asked to move it to the Representative List. In December 2024, the committee reviewed and agreed with the report. They praised China’s efforts and encouraged people to keep doing and pass it on, stressing that the local community should take part in protecting it.
28. Why was Hezhen Yimakan storytelling moved to the Representative List?
A. It is no longer at urgent survival risks. B. It has been popular in neighbor countries.
C. It has made great achievements in protection. D. It has changed its form to fit modern times.
29. What is the key role of Yimakan storytelling?
A. It keeps various dialects alive. B. It promotes the local tourism.
C. It passes down history and values. D. It replaces local written records.
30. What does the underlined word “collaborated” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Worked together. B. Observed actively.
C. Controlled seriously. D. Taught carefully.
31. What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To show the strict rules for listing heritage.
B. To praise local communities’ protection efforts.
C. To explain the process of China’s heritage application.
D. To present UNESCO’s encouragement for China’s work.
D
Biologist E.O. Wilson once wrote that “ants are the most warlike of all animals”, noting that fights between ant colonies (蚁群) were far bigger than the human battles at Waterloo and Gettysburg. But sometimes ant colonies get taken over not by direct warfare, but by secret action. In fact, sometimes the members of an ant colony can get tricked into murdering their own precious queen.
The role of queen is the most important in an ant colony — she produces all the eggs, and she’s cared for by workers. As a colony matures and grows, it generates reproductive females that fly off to found new colonies.
But to do this, these females face great danger outside the nest, so some take shortcuts. Ant expert Keizo Takasuka and his team lab-observed ant species and uncovered their queen-killing strategies. First, the female ant needs some hiding methods so that she can enter the targeted colony without being detected as an outsider. Since ants mainly tell friend from enemy using chemical signals, the female ant can pick up the necessary smell by coming into contact with some of the colony’s workers. The experts gave females the opportunity to do this in the lab, letting them interact with workers from two other species.
Then, the scientists discovered a female made her way through a colony towards its queen. Once she reached the queen, she shot some liquid to cover the queen, and then pulled back. “My guess is that it was a kind of chemical,” says Takasuka. That’s used by some ants as a defense, or to signal danger. Whatever it was, putting this chemical onto the queen had a dramatic effect. Large groups of workers who had been loyal, ready to lay down their lives to protect their queen — who was their biological mother — suddenly turned on her, attacking her violently until she was dead.
After that, the colony’s ants accepted the new female as their new queen and began serving her, protecting her and helping raise her young.
32. What is the author’s purpose by mentioning Waterloo and Gettysburg?
A. To stress war’s cruelty. B. To show ants’ war size.
C. To compare war strategies. D. To explain ants’ war signals.
33. What did the experts make the female ants do in the lab?
A. Contact foreign workers. B. Build up a new nest.
C. Produce chemical liquids. D. Kill the queen directly.
34. Why did the ant workers kill their queen?
A. They followed a natural order. B. They wanted to have a new queen.
C. They were threatened by outsiders. D. They were misled by her new smell.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Fights among Ant Colonies B. The Important Roles of a Queen
C. Chemical Tricks for New Queens D. The Rules within Ant Colonies

第二节 读后续写(满分20分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语(续写第一段已给出)续写一段话,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My first school was “Happy School”. It was actually my kindergarten. My second school was “General Ra’s”, a local school. Both were English-medium schools, which meant English was supposed to be the primary language of communication. However, despite having some excellent teachers, there just wasn’t enough focus on spoken English or literature. As a result, until the fifth-grade year, I was still reading mostly Hindi (印地语) comics, and was hesitant to (use English in everyday life.
And then I joined DPS, which was, at that time, the best school, purely from an academic perspective. I felt like a Panda bear that has been pushed into a club of adult grizzlies (灰熊). All around me, English was genuinely used as the medium of communication, while I hadn’t even read an English book. I was deeply embarrassed.
Though I’ve always been a bit shy, I’m also stubborn — more stubborn than a donkey (驴). I didn’t want to give up. I desperately wanted to improve my English.
However, my school life was purely painful from an English subject perspective. To make matters worse, my English teacher, Mrs. Sabrina, was a tough woman from South India who had little patience for my struggles. She adored Paddy, another South Indian student whose English was perfect. Paddy could sing “Silent Night, Holy Night” effortlessly, while I struggled with every word. Mrs. Sabrina often called on me to read aloud, making me nervous and further weakening my confidence. Her favorite punishment was pulling my ear, which, as anyone who has experienced it knows, is painfully effective.
One day, Mrs. Sabrina asked me to read a passage from a textbook in front of the class. My hands trembled as I held the book, and my voice wavered with every word. The class erupted in laughter, and Mrs. Sabrina pulled my ear so hard that tears welled up in my eyes. Uncomfortable with the language, I felt as if I didn’t belong to such an English-medium school.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为80词左右;
(2)按照格式在答题卡相应位置作答。
After this embarrassing English class, I decided I had to do something to change my situation. I began by borrowing English novels from the library and reading them aloud in my room every night. I also started writing short English diaries to express my daily feelings. At school, I took every chance to practice with classmates, even if it meant making mistakes. Mrs. Sabrina noticed my efforts and, surprisingly, offered to help me after class. Her guidance, though strict, was invaluable.
By the end of my eighth-grade year, something remarkable happened. _____________________
