书面表达:
Thank you for reaching out to us. It takes courage to share your feelings, and your concerns are completely understandable.
Still remember the saying “Don't judge a book by its cover.”? Your appearance is just the “cover”, part of the cover. What people truly value is your “content”—your character, your inner strength.
While it’s easy to worry about others’ opinions, most people don’t judge you solely by your looks. So, cheer up and stand tall. As the saying goes, “If you smile upon life, it smiles back upon you.” Your confidence is your brightest light. You are wonderful as you are.
We are always here to support you.

(Text 10)
W: I’m glad to be here to talk about my gap year, which took place over two decades ago. I decided to go to the island of Bali. I really wanted to volunteer at a national park, but I was too late to apply so I went for a job at a diving center. This turned out to be better than what I considered, like helping in a school.
When it comes to packing, obviously you need your travel documents, your phone and charger. Then think about any medicine you might need. How did I stay in touch with family? When I first arrived, I wrote a letter every week. They took at least four weeks to arrive though. Then, when I met someone else who had a blog, I realized that that’s the thing to do. A phone call is nice, but the time difference can make that difficult.
There are lots of things you’ll need to adapt to when you’re in another country. The language of course. But luckily, so many people speak English. And I knew I’d struggle with the hot food. I hadn’t realized the effect the climate would have on us, though. Generally speaking, I really enjoyed my time away. It’s a good way to make friends, and you gain confidence too.

Some festivals are out of religion(宗教) or cultural events, others come about because of marketing experiments or boredom!
World Toe Wrestling Championships — England, UK
The location of the championships varies, but the practice originated in the village of Wetton, Staffordshire, in the 1970s. Just like arm wrestling, two people go up against one another in each match, which is won by the best of three. Players can only take part in the tournament after a thorough toe (脚指头) examination by a qualified nurse.
Wife Carrying World Championship — Sonkajärvi, Finland
Wife carrying, or eukonkanto in Finnish, originated as a sport in Sonkajärvi, Finland, in 1992. Participants are allowed to carry their wives in a variety of ways across a 253.5-meter road with obstacles. The prize is awarded based on the wife’s weight in beer.
Cheung Chau Bun Festival — Cheung Chau, Hong Kong
During this traditional Chinese festival, participants race up three 60-foot bamboo towers of buns (包子) to grab the highest bun that would bring them the best fortune. The annual festival dates back to the 18th century and happens at the same time with the celebration of Buddha’s (佛) birthday.
Monkey Buffet Festival — Lopburi, Thailand
Here MONKEYS, rather than humans, are offered a feast of 4,000 kilograms of fruits, vegetables, cakes, and candies. Afterwards, youths dressed up as monkeys perform dances. Yu Zidi, a 12-year-old Chinese swimming talent, could be the sport’s brightest young star this year. At the Chinese National Swimming Championships (CNSC) held in Shenzhen, she delivered a series of astonishing performances. The event also served as trials for the World Aquatics Championships (WAC) in Singapore this July, for which Yu secured three qualifications (资格).
Yu started by taking second place in the 200m individual medley (混合泳) with a time of 2:10.63, which was confirmed by World Aquatics to be “the fastest time ever by a 12-year-old”.
In the women’s 200-meter butterfly final, Yu clocked an impressive 2:06.83. “My lungs were about to explode! I didn’t know my time; I just focused on my pace,” she said after the event.
On May 24, Yu won the women’s 400m individual medley by almost two seconds while wearing her distinctive swimming cap featuring a cartoon dog. The crowd cheered as she finished the race in a personal best of 4:35.53.
It is amusing to think that Yu took to swimming at a water park when she was six. “I never thought I would continue swimming. I initially swam just to beat the heat. But now I do it for the sense of achievement it brings me,” said the sixth grader.
Yu also finds joy in the sport’s challenges. “Medley events are considered the most challenging in swimming, particularly the 400-metre individual medley. However, to me, it feels like tasting various foods. It’s fun to think about delicious food while training for the medley events.”
Swimming, however, has not come without its hardships. Last year, Yu faced difficulties balancing training and studies, and almost gave up the sport. Thankfully, she found strength in her coaches, teammates, friends, parents—and the dog.
“When I feel tired during training, I encourage myself by imagining how cool it would be to compete internationally in a swimsuit decorated with the national flag and my doggy cap.” Her dream will soon come true.
24. Why did Yu Zidi initially start swimming?
A. To compete in championships. B. To beat the heat.
C. To please her parents. D. To become a professional athlete.
25. What helped Yu Zidi overcome difficulties last year?
A. Her cartoon dog swimming cap.
B. International competition experience.
C. Support from coaches and family.
D. Winning the 400m individual medley.
26. Which of the following is true of Yu zidi’s story?
A. Failure is the mother of success.
B. Actions speak louder than words.
C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
D. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.
27. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. 12-year-old world champion B. 12-year-old’s way to success
C. China’s youngest swimmer D. China’s rising swimming star
C
When Ne Zha 2 broke records at the global box office with $2.2 billion, many wondered if Chinese animation (动画) could build on that success. This summer gave a clear answer—not with one big hit but with two, by blending(融合) Eastern art styles with stories that connect with audiences everywhere.
One of the season’s biggest surprises was Nobody. It made over 500 million yuan in just eight days and earned an impressive 8.6/10 on the review site Douban, beating Ne Zha 2’s 8.5.
The film creatively reimagines Journey to the West, one of China’s most famous classics. It follows four ignored small demons (小妖) pretending to be the famous heroes. They struggle to find meaning in their ordinary lives. Many viewers saw themselves in these small demons, who achieve personal growth through hard work rather than fate.
The film’s visual style is equally unique. It combines traditional ink-wash painting with modern cinematic lighting to create the effect of “moving brushstrokes(笔法)”. As art director Chen Liaoyu said, “By holding on to national style elements, we not only honor the tradition of Chinese animation, but also lay the way for its future — one rooted in the past yet expressed in uniquely-meaningful new form.
The other hit, The Legend of Hei 2, continues the story of the first film with a new journey. This time, Xiaohei is to uncover a plot that could cut the ties between the spirit world and humans.
In a world controlled by 3D animation, the film stands out for its sticking to 2D method. With over 200,000 hand-drawn drawings for a two-hour runtime, it carries a warmth and quality that CGI rarely matches. Its detailed forests and fantastical characters earned it an even higher score than Nobody—8.7/10 on Douban.
Together, these hits show a winning approach to Chinese animation: finding roots in Chinese myths and legends(神话传说), then reinventing them for a modern audience with lively, understandable characters. When a movie can excite children with adventure while touching adults with emotional depth, it reaches true excellence.
28. The audience love Nobody mainly because ______.
A. it continues the plots of Ne Zha 2
B. it uses no modern cinematic technology
C. they like watching Journey to the West
D. they share the same feelings with the heroes
29. What makes The Legend of Hei 2 stand out in animation style?
A. Using 3D CGI technology.
B. Combining ink-wash painting with modern lighting.
C. Sticking to 2D hand-drawn method.
D. Adopting realistic character designs.
30. What is similar about Nobody and The Legend of Hei 2?
A. Both learn from the newest 3D computer technology.
B. Both use traditional Chinese art styles in creative ways.
C. Both avoid modern film-making methods completely.
D. Both use modern stories to appeal to wide audiences.

As India’s most important festival of the year, Diwali is a time to celebrate the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. Widely celebrated among more than a billion people from a variety of beliefs, the five days of Diwali are marked by prayer, feasts, fireworks, family gatherings, and helping those in need. For some, Diwali is also the beginning of a new year.
So widely is it celebrated that it has no single origin story. In Hinduism (印度教) alone, there are several versions of tales about the Hindu god Vishnu, who brings back the balance of good and evil in times of trouble. Even other religions (宗教) in India have their own Diwali stories too.
But Diwali is perhaps best known for the brightly burning clay lamps (灯盏) that people line up outside their homes on the night of the new moon to invite the presence of Lakshmi, wife of Vishnu, the goddess of wealth. What a scene to have a sea of lamps lit and placed in rows along the walls of temples and houses, and floating on rivers and streams. Homes are decorated, and floors inside and out are covered with beautiful designs made of colored rice, sand, or flowers. The doors and windows of houses are kept open in the hope that Lakshmi will find her way inside and bless the residents with wealth and success.
Diwali is generally a time for visiting, exchanging gifts, wearing new clothes, feasting, feeding the poor, and setting off fireworks. Among others, gambling (赌博), especially in the form of card games, is encouraged as a way of ensuring good luck in the coming year. Traditionally, in honor of Lakshmi, the female player always wins.
The spirit of Diwali extends beyond a single tradition. However it is celebrated, the spirit of Diwali is universal—the belief that, eventually, light will overcome darkness.
