On October 11, more than 1,600 athletes from over 50 countries started the 2025 Ironman World Championship Triathlon. First, they swam in the Pacific Ocean. Then they rode bikes over 100 miles through sun-baked coastal roads. Finally, they ran a marathon under the hot afternoon sun. Sixty athletes didn’t finish, but 80-year-old Natalie Grabow crossed the finish line with a big smile. She became the oldest woman ever to complete the race in its 48-year history.
A triathlon is a very hard three-part race that demands both physical strength and mental focus. It checks how well athletes swim, bike and run, but most of all, it tests if they can keep going for hours without giving up. The swim is 2.4 miles, the bike ride is 112 miles, and the run is 26.2 miles — totaling over 140 miles of non-stop effort. The Ironman World Championship in Hawaii is the most famous and hardest one; the heat often reaches 32℃, and the uphill parts of the bike and run legs push even young athletes to their limits.
Grabow is an 80-year-old grandmother, but she’s very athletic. She couldn’t swim until she was 59. When she was young, girls were more often cheerleaders than athletes. Later, she played tennis and ran. Her running friends did triathlons, so she wanted to try too. She took weekly swim lessons, learned slowly, and kept practicing until she felt confident in the water.
In 2005, Grabow joined her first half-Ironman(with shorter distances). In her early 60s, she made it to the Ironman World Championship. This year, she finished in 16 hours, 45 minutes and 26 seconds — no one else was in her age group. She said, “I am so happy and grateful that I can still race in this sport at my age. It’s not about winning; it’s about proving to myself that I can do hard things.” She even plans to do two half-Ironman races next year, in Utah and California.
4. What does paragraph 2 mainly present about a triathlon?
A. Its difficulty. B. Its basic rules.
C. Its popularity. D. Its training methods.
5. What do we know about Grabow’s 2025 Ironman World Championship experience?
A. She finished the race in over 17 hours. B. She learned to swim for this race.
C. She joined her first full Ironman this year. D. She was the only one in her age group.
6. What does Grabow want to tell us through her experience?
A. Winning matters most in races. B. Challenging hard things is valuable.
C. Her success depends on good luck. D. Old people find it hard to do sports.
7. Which of the following best describes Grabow?
A. Stubborn and calm. B. Brilliant and creative.
C. Humorous and faithful. D. Persistent and self-motivated.
【答案】4. A 5. D 6. B 7. D

Teachers need to fully understand how AI actually works so that they can make wise decisions on when and how to use it. I recently met with a kindergarten teacher who was very worried. She asked me, “Do I really have to use AI with my kids? I don’t even know what it is.” She was under such pressure, and that’s not healthy. It’s an incredibly difficult and unfair situation for teachers to be placed in. So it’s very important to slow down and make sure teachers feel comfortable and confident before integrating AI into schools.
It’s important to think about using AI in ways suitable for different ages and address privacy concerns. While there are still gaps, I remain optimistic. AI can make life easier and help us be more productive and creative if used as a helpful partner.
How do these innovations shape the future of education? Are you fearful or hopeful? I’m hopeful that this could be a turning point where teaching and learning are greatly changed, as education has changed little since it began.
AI is here to stay, so we have to decide to make it positive in the ways we want. If we don’t do anything, it could have negative effects. This feels like a big change, but people were also worried when computers and smartphones were first introduced to schools. We have adapted to those and will adapt to life with AI too.
One of the fundamental goals of education is to prepare our students to contribute meaningfully to society. With things changing as rapidly as they are, we need to equip students with the abilities they will need to navigate and grow in a constantly developing world. We should emphasize learning how to learn and how to adapt.
8. What concerned the kindergarten teacher?
A. Supporting kids to learn AI. B. Integrating AI into her school.
C. Creating new technology for kids. D. Teaching AI technology in her school.
9. What is the author’s attitude to the potential of AI in education?
A. Worried. B. Negative. C. Doubtful. D. Positive.
10. What does the author suggest teachers do about AI in education?
A. Help students accept AI technology. B. Focus on teaching students AI skills.
C. Replace old teaching methods with AI. D. Remove AI literacy from other courses.
11. What can be the best title for the text?
A. AI Literacy: a Hope for Students. B. AI in Education: Challenges and Hopes.
C. AI Innovation: Transforming Education. D. AI-driven Future: a Chance for Students.
【答案】8. B 9. D 10. A 11. B

D
Doctors in hospital emergency rooms often see accidental poisonings. A scared parent arrives with a child who swallowed a cleaning liquid. Or perhaps the harmful substance is a medicine. Or it might be a chemical product meant to kill insects. These are common causes of accidental poisoning.
In cases like this, seek medical help as soon as possible. Save the container of whatever caused the poisoning. And look on the container for information about anything that stops the effects of the poison. Save anything expelled from the mouth of the victim. That way, doctors can examine it.
Millions of people know a way to save a person who is choking on something trapped in the throat. The method is commonly known as the Heimlich maneuver or abdominal thrusts, which you can do by getting directly behind a sitting or standing person. Put your arms around the victim’s waist. Close one hand to form a ball. Place it over the upper part of the stomach, below the ribs: Place the other hand on top. Then push forcefully inward and upward. Repeat the abdominal thrusts until the object is expelled from the mouth. For someone who is pregnant or very fat, place your hands a little higher than with normal abdominal thrusts.
Red Cross experts say taking these steps can save many lives. But they also warn that abdominal thrusts are not for people who have almost drowned. They say use of the method could be a barrier to restart breathing in the victim. Abdominal thrusts should be used only in cases where a near-drowning victim is choking on an object.
To learn more about first aid, ask a hospital or an organization like Red Cross for information. There may be training classes offered in your area.
12. According to the first paragraph, which of the following is NOT the common cause of accidental poisonings?
A. Poisonous insects. B. A cleaning liquid. C. A harmful medicine. D. Dangerous pesticide.
13. The underlined word “expelled” in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by “__________”.
A. going away B. taking up C. coming out D. getting down
14. Why are abdominal thrusts not for people who have almost drowned?
A. Because it is no need to do so.
B. Because it is hard to perform.
C. Because people are unwilling to attempt rescue efforts.
D. Because it could prevent the victim getting breath again.
15. What is the writer’s purpose of writing this text?
A. To promote medical research. B. To share some knowledge about first aid.
C. To show how to perform abdominal thrusts. D. To help people deal with accidental poisoning.
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. D 15. B

47. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。.
It was a cool fall morning, and the sun was just starting to rise, casting a warm light to the quit neighborhood. For Alex, the high school junior with a deep passion for science, was filled with both excitement and nervousness. Today marked the final presentation of his science project, which he had been working on for months. The topic was renewable energy, and Alex had built a model of a solar-powered car. He hoped it would help him win the regional science fair.
Alex checked his bag one last time: notes, sides, and the model car. Just as he was about to leave, his younger brother Ax came into the room with big, sorry-looking eyes. In his hand, he held a broken piece of the car's solar panel. “I'm really sorry, Alex!” Ax said in a very quiet voice, his head down because he felt guilty. “I was just so curious. I wanted to see how it worked, and I didn't mean to break it.”
Alex's eyes opened wide in shock, and his heart felt like it dropped to the bottom of his stomach. The presentation was in a few hours, and there wasn't time to fix it. He thought about explaining what happened, but he was worried it would sound like an excuse and make him less likely to win. He could put a battery in the car and act like nothing was wrong. But when he thought about it, he felt uncomfortable. He was proud of being honest, and the idea of cheating, even a little bit, made him feel sick.
As he walked to school, his steps were slow and heavy. He thought about all the late-night hours he spent working at his work bench, how frustrated he was when the circuits didn't work, and how happy he was when the car finally moved using solar power. His dreams of winning the competition and being recognized for his hard work seemed to be going away. But then he remembered the talks at the dinner table a long time ago, when his parents told him how important it was to be honest, responsible, and keep trying. Their words kept playing in his mind. By the time he got to the school gates, a determined look was on his face. He knew exactly what he had to do.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Alex stood in front of the class and judges, feeling nervous. He took a deep breath and began his presentation. “Today, I'd like to talk about my project on a solar-powered car. However, before coming here, an accident happened. My little brother broke a part of the solar panel. I was so shocked and disappointed at first. But then I realized that honesty is more important than winning. So, what you see now is a damaged model. But the knowledge and effort behind it are real.” He then went on to explain the theory and his process of building the car. The audience listened attentively, some nodding in understanding.
Later that day, Alex received an email from the science fair organization. His heart raced as he opened it. To his surprise, he had won an honorary mention. The email praised his honesty and his in-depth understanding of the project. It said that although his model was damaged, his integrity and the quality of his work impressed the judges. Alex felt a rush of joy and relief. He knew that his decision to be honest was the right one. This experience not only taught him the value of honesty but also made him more determined to pursue his love for science.

C
