Folding when touched
Have you ever seen a plant that seems shy? That's Mimosa pudica. When
touched, its leaves fold up fast, as if it's feeling shy.Why does this happen? Each leaf has a special part called the“leaf pillow(叶枕)”.When you touch the leaves, the water inside this part quickly moves to other parts of the plant. With less water, it gets soft, causing the leaves to fold up.This also protects it from small animals that try to eat it.
Storing water inside trunks
Have you ever heard of baobab trees? These trees have super-fat trunks that
look like big bottles. They live in hot, dry places. So they store lots of water inside their trunks to stay alive. They are also among the longest-living plants. It's said that they can live for thousands of years. These trees are also very useful.People can eat their sweet fruit. Also, the leaves can be used to make food or medicine.
The epiphyllum, also known as the “beauty under the moon”, is truly a
wonder. It only blooms(开花)at night with large beautiful white petals( 花瓣).
When it blooms,it gives off a sweet smell that fills the air. What makes it even more amazing is its short blooming time—it only lasts for about 3 to 4 hours. That's why people use the saying “a flash in the pan" to describe something that is beautiful but doesn't last long.
( )1.In which SECTION of the newspaper can we read the news?

The Yellow River starts in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(青藏高原)and runs eastwards across China. On its way,it passes through the Loess Plateau(黄土高原)—a place with a lot of soft soil(土壤)and few plants. When it rains, the soil easily washes into the river, turning the water brown. It looks like “half water, half sand”.
So the Yellow River is famous for its brown water for many years. But in 2025,something amazing happened:parts of the river became clear!People saw clean water at Hukou Waterfall in Shaanxi Province. This surprised everyone.
▲ First, less rain fell in early 2025.The Loess Plateau got 35% less rain than usual.Less rain means less soil washes into the river.Second, people have worked for years to protect the land. They planted trees and built small dams(大坝)to stop soil from being washed away.Today, green plants grow on 63% of the Loess Plateau. In 1999, it was only about 31%.That's why its water is clearer today!
However, the clear water brings both hope and problems. On the good side, more fish can come back, and there may be few floods(洪水).But on the other side,it can wear away riverbanks faster, and less soil getting to the ocean means wet lands by the sea are getting smaller.
Nature and humans should work together for a better future.Scientists are now studying how to keep the river healthy while enjoying its green and clear water.People near the river are also learning new ways to farm so that they don't hurt the land or the water. Everyone agrees that protecting the Yellow River is important for both its beauty and its role in history.

Hi Jack! Welcome to my home during the coming May Day holiday. I'm excited to plan a trip to Mount Huangshan with you! It’s in southern Anhui Province, one of China’s most famous mountains.
You’ ll be amazed by its scenery: unique pines on steep rocks, strange shaped stones, and the magical sea of clouds around peaks. There are also relaxing hot springs after hiking.
Mount Huangshan is attractive because it mixes breathtaking natural beauty with long cultural history— many artists have been inspired by it. It’s perfect to get close to nature here. I’m sure you’ ll love this amazing place!
