第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题,每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在
答题卡上将选项涂黑。
Introduction
In the United States, only 31%of students graduate middle school as efficient readers, with
overall reading achievement on the fall.Reading efficiency is even lower for students of color.
For example,only 21%of Hispanic/Latino and only 16%of Black/African American students
were skilled on the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress.Reading difficulties for
all students negatively influence achievement in other subjects, such as social studies and science,
as well as students general graduation rates and employment future.Newsela ELA (English
Language Arts)classes may play a role in this problem.
Attenders
This report focuses on figures from
208 eighth-grade students,all of whom
Multiple races/ethnicities
signed up for ELA classes taught by the
8%
teachers.The average student was 14.2
Black/African American
years old.Students represented a range of
13%
races,as shown on the right. This model
White
represented greater racial differences than
55%
the forming of the states as a whole, where
Hispanic/Latino
National Center for Education Statistics
24%
figures reflect that 77%of students are
white.Student groups were similar across both the Newsela treatment and comparison
conditions.
Conclusion
Newsela ELA classes drove large growth for the eighth-grade students in this study.
Attenders began the year underperforming relative to their classmates but were able to close that
achievement gap in a single school year thanks to Newsela ELA use-achieving four months of
additional reading growth. It can be challenging to speed up reading achievement among
secondary students,as gaps in student skills or background knowledge can grow over time.As
such, the influence of new reading programs on middle school students historically has been
small. The effects achieved in this study are all the more admirable:Newsela ELA was 2x as
effective as the average middle school reading program.

Those who want to lose weight often consider trying a strict eating plan. While we might
think these short-term,strict diets will help,it is hard to stick to and probably won't result in
long-term weight loss.Research shows that as.few as 20 percent of people who lose weight in
this way can succeed.
For years, researchers have been trying to understand why diets often fail. One potential
reason for this is that diets often include strict food rules, such as avoiding foods you enjoy. The
problem is that foods like chocolate turn on the brain's reward center. When we cut them out,we
lose the pleasure they bring, which can lead to food cravings-a strong desire to eat even when
not hungry.
Experts agree that short-term strict diets aren't great for long-term success. Our appetite and
feeling of fullness are controlled by the body's system. When we eat too little, our bodies react
by making us feel hungrier, less full, and even buming fewer calories. The body also sends
stronger hunger messages to the brain, leading to overeating, which explains why eating too little
often results in weight regain. In fact, research shows that people tend to regain about 50-70
percent of the weight they lose.Another possible explanation is that you're not just losing fat
when the weight drops-you lose muscle too.Muscle burns calories even at rest. So,if you lose
muscle,your metabolism(新陈代谢)will drop.Research has also shown that a loss1 of muscle
mass is connected with weight regain.
So what works better?Experts suggest focusing not on what to cut out,but on what to add to
meals to make them healthier. The types of food we eat influence appetite-not just calories.
Protein provides fullness,,and carbohydrates(f碳水化合物)keep us satisfied.They recommend
setting achievable goals, making plans, and teaming up with others.A slower, balanced approach
is more likely to protect muscles and support lasting results.
28.What causes strict diets fail?
A.Gaining the food pleasure.
B.Avoiding foods you prefer.
C.Taking foods like chocolate.
D.Tuming on the brain's reward center.
29.What can be inferred about muscle loss from paragraph 3?
A.It makes people feel less hungry.
B.It may lead to gaining weight again
C.It is an important goal of strict diets.
D.It increases the speed of metabolism.
30.What do the experts suggest people do for long-term weight loss
A.Ignore hunger and eat very little.
B.Follow strict short-term diet rules.
C.Avoid enjoyable foods completely.
D.Take in protein and set suitable goals.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (Al)has greatly changed the field of art
creation, starting a popular worldwide argument:Will AI eventually take over artistic expression
and replace human artists?Despite AI's great progress in creating different works, from visual
paintings to audio music,it can never fully replace the unique value of real human artistic
expression.
Supporters of AI art praise its impressive achievements and growing popularity.Advanced
AI tools such as GPT-4,Midjourney and DALL-E can create high-quality artworks rapidly based
on large amounts of data and audio-visual materials. For instance,AI artist Refik Anadol's
masterpiece Unsupervised, shown at the famous MoMa in New York, used 380,000 pictures
from the museum's valuable collection, attracting thousands of visitors. Moreover, free and
user-friendly AI tools break traditional limits, enabling art lovers to create wonderful works
without having long-term strict specialized training.
However,AI naturally lacks real human experiences and the ability to feel deep, mixed
emotions. Most timeless art masterpieces are rooted in artists'personal life experiences and deep
emotional changes.Avril Lavigne's song Head Above Water, inspired by her hard struggle with
Lyme disease and a near-death experience, expresses true feelings of sadness and hope.AI,as a
cold machine, only creates works through fixed algorithms()and materials, failing to
express such slight and sincere emotions.Additionally,it depends heavily on past artistic data
and cannot invent new forms, unlike artists like Anicka Yi who create groundbreaking works by
challenging traditions.
In conclusion,AI serves as a useful supporting tool for art creation, rather than a real
replacement for human artists. It widens art's limits, improves creation efficiency and makes art
more approachable to the general public.Yet,it cannot fully understand the mixed parts of
human emotions or create completely new artistic styles. Finally, human creativity rooted in
unique life experiences remains irreplaceable in artistic expression.
32.What can we learn about the artwork Unsupervised?
A.It was created without data.
B.B.It set an example for traditional arts.
C.It was popular and shown at MoMa.
D.It was the first AI artwork in museums.>

B.To explain disease inspires artists'creations.

34.What does the underlined word"groundbreaking"in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.proud
B.creative
C.original

35.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.AI Art:Tools for Progress
B.AI Art:A Challenge to Humans

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选
项。
From time to time, you may experience strong emotions of disappointment, sadness, even
helplessness.36Here are four ways to help you manage your strong feelings.
The first step is to accept what you feel.It is okay to feel completely stressed, and it is okay
to feel as if the world is going to end.It is only a natural human response to stress, and those
feelings do not make you a weak person.37 Many of us do too,at various points in our
lives.
If it is all too unbearable, just step away-take a break from the task. For example,if you
have been studying very hard for your math exercises but suddenly feel your heart is racing and
you don't seem to remember anything, just stop what you are doing.Go to the kitchen and have a
snack.Go outside and feel the gentle wind.38
Sometimes you may be stressed out when you have too many things to do.The best thing to
do is to sit down and make a list of the things that need to get done.39 Then, arrange the
tasks in order of importance or urgency.
Where you can help it,say "no"-learn to set boundaries for yourself. For example,if your
friend asks you to go shopping with her to buy a gift for her mother but you know you have to
study for an important test,say "no"to her.40 So,put yourself first,and excuse yourself.
A.There is nothing wrong with you feeling this way.
B.This way,you won't be left with too little time to study.
C.Learning to identify these feelings early is also very important.
D.Dealing with unbearable feelings does not come easy for many of.us.
E.Remember, asking for help from friends or family is always an option.
K Writing this down is a good idea as it would help you to visualize the different tasks.
G.Sueh actions will clear your mind and you will feel better when returning to that task.

My son Asen extremely liked model toys.He always carried them in his pocket wherever he

quickly became his favourite cartoon. And then his favourite model toys were replaced by all the
Peppa Pig characters:Danny dog,Freddie fox,Candy cat,Emily elephant;and most specially,
Peppa,the pig.
One day,I found a tragedy that had happened to Peppa when I reached home from the
hospital. She had lost one of her two legs.Becnuse our dog had bit her leg to pieces.I made every
cffort to fix it and make the leg the same size as used to be.Because my son's worry was that
Peppn couldn't stand from now on.So,I had an "operation"on Peppa and covered it with a
bandage on his leg so it would be"cured".As a doctor, the only thing I could do was that. The
aim was to make him feel better about his favorite friend. However,my son was quite sad
because I couldn't really cure it.He thought that is what mums do,especially mums who are
doctors,
The next day,I went to work, and a lady asked me what I had done on my weekends. The
Indy had a kid who was in hospital because he was seriously ill. Then she smiled when she was
told the Peppa tragedy. She told me that her boy was also crazy about some things, and she
understood my son's pain. Her son was once extremely sad when he knew his favorite toy was
broken.Fortunately, someone gave him a toy just like the old one.The little boy was my patient,
