Most people fall into one of two camps: those who love running every morning and those who would sooner do anything to avoid it. For most of my life, I was planted in the second camp. I always hated running. At the age of 12, I remember entering a neighborhood 5K with my dad; I also remember placing dead last, followed by only the police car driving patiently behind me. Three years later, I didn’t make the junior volleyball team because I couldn’t run a mile in under 10 minutes. Every time I ran, I felt as though failure — in some form or another — was the only possible result. The summer after my freshman year, though, I took a job at a summer camp in Connecticut, where I got paid to be a kid again. I spent my days keeping an eye on different camp activities. When it came to exercise, running was my only choice. So, I made myself a promise: Every day, I would run for a while. By most runners’ standards, it wasn’t far, I guessed it was only about a mile. But I decided to do it every day, no matter how long it took. The exercise lasted for 61 days — the entire time I spent at camp that summer. I started to feel better about myself. But to my great surprise, I learned to love running, too. I went from fearing the sport to loving it. I’ve finished seven marathons (马拉松) and more shorter races than I can remember, and now I am a running coach. These were the secrets I discovered that changed my way of looking at life. 4. What can we say about the author from paragraph 2? A. He didn’t like to do any sport. B. He didn’t believe he could do sports. C. He didn’t do well in running-related sports. D. He didn’t join in the volleyball team on purpose. 5 What decision did the author make in the camp? A. To run every day. B. To do a part-time job. C. To fully relax himself in the camp. D. To take part in different activities. 6. How does the author look at running after the camp? A. It is a difficult thing to do. B. It has become a boring sport. C. It makes no difference to him. D. It has changed his life in a good way. C During this year’s 8-day National Day Holiday, tourists across China enjoyed a variety of cultural activities —from traditional to modern—and discovered many new travel destinations (目的地). Items on China’s national list of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) were popular among travelers in many places. In Lantian County, Shaanxi Province in northwest China, tourists were surprised by the art of Dawaz, which means aerial tightrope (空中钢丝)walking in the Uygur language. At the same time, in Changzhou City in east China, music festivals attracted large crowds of visitors. The local government took steps to make visitors feel comfortable: it arranged 500 coaches for long-distance travel, set up over 10,000 free parking spaces, and extended subway operation hours until 11:30 p.m. Big cities were not the only places attracting visitors during the holiday. Travelers preferred natural scenery, less crowded spots, and cost-effective travel experiences. Data from Ctrip(携程), a major Chinese travel booking platform, showed that travel orders for small cities rose by 140% year-on-year, which was much higher than the growth rate for big cities. Wu Sa, a leader from the Economic Research Institute, said that big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hangzhou and Chengdu remained popular as usual. But he also noted that many travelers were heading to new, less well-known places. Science and space-related sites also became popular travel spots this holiday. These included the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China and the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope in Guizhou Province, southwest China. “I mainly wanted to take my child to see China’s advanced space technology and the development trend of big data, so he can understand our motherland’s advanced technology,” said a tourist named Hu Wannping. 7. What made tourists go to Changzhou City? A. Music festivals held there. B. Aerial tightrope walking shows. C. Celebrations of traditional cultural events. D. Comfort services provided by the government. 8. What does the underlined word “cost-effective” mean in Paragraph 3? A. Only for poor people. B. Costing a lot of money. C. Reasonable in price. D. Needing much time to book. 9. What can be inferred from the text? A. Tourists are open-minded as to the choices of travelling. B. Scientific and space projects received the least attention. C. Orders for major destinations in big cities are decreasing. D. The growth of visitors is causing various social problems. 10. What can be the best title for the text? A. Cultural Events Across China During Holidays B. New Choices of Travel Destinations on National Day C. Well-Known Cities Are More Popular among Visitors D. Traditional Culture Attracts Tourists around the World 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 There are a few tips old people should keep in mind while travelling during the long weekend.
