B It was a cold March day in High Point, North Carolina. The girls on the Wesleyan Academy softball team were waiting for their next turns at bat during practice, stamping their feet to stay warm. Eighth-grader Taylor Bisbee shivered (发抖) a little as she watched her teammate Paris White play. The two didn’t know each other well — Taylor had just moved to town a month or so before. Suddenly, Paris fell to the ground. “Paris’s eyes rolled back,” Taylor says. “She started shaking. I knew it was an emergency.” It certainly was. Paris had suffered a sudden heart failure. Without immediate medical care, Paris would die. At first, no one moved. The girls were in shock. Then the softball coach shouted out,“Does anyone know CPR?” CPR is a life-saving technique. To do CPR, you press on the sick person’s chest so that blood moves through the body and takes oxygen to organs. Without oxygen, the brain is damaged quickly. Amazingly Taylor had just taken a CPR course the day before. Still, she hesitated. She didn’t think she knew it well enough. But when no one else came forward, Taylor ran to Paris and began doing CPR. “It was scary. I knew it was the difference between life and death,” says Taylor. Taylor’s swift action helped her teammates calm down. One girl called 911. Two more ran to get the school nurse, who brought a defibrillator, an electronic device that can shock the heart back into work. Luck stayed with them: Paris’s heartbeat returned. “I know I was really lucky,” Paris says now. “Most people don’t survive this. My team saved my life.” Experts say Paris is right: For a sudden heart failure, the single best chance for survival is having someone nearby step in and do CPR quickly. Today, Paris is back on the softball team. Taylor will apply to college soon. She wants to be a nurse. “I feel more confident in my actions now,” Taylor says. “I know I can act under pressure in a scary situation.” 4. What happened to Paris during the softball practice? A She passed out while waiting to bat. B. She fainted from cold and tiredness. C. She got hurt in an unexpected collision. D. She had a sudden life-threatening heart problem. 5. What’s the key to Paris’s survival? A. The coach’s quick CPR reminder. B. Taylor’s timely CPR and team’s help. C. Paris’s good health and fast recovery. D. The nurse’s professional emergency care. 6. What can we infer from Taylor’s experience? A. She hesitated at first to act. B. She built up crisis-solving ability. C. She learned CPR the day before. D. She answered the coach’s call. 7. Which of the following words can best describe Taylor? A. Courageous and calm. B. Enthusiastic and kind. C. Cooperative and generous. D. Ambitious and professional. C We’ve all been in a position where our phone runs out of battery, but we don’t have anywhere to charge it. Well, what if the clothing you were wearing could help you out? It’s an option that isn’t as strange as you might think. Now the latest fashion breakthrough is taking “activewear” in an entirely new direction: researchers at Nottingham Trent University have developed a new fabric that can keep small devices charged. The prototype (原型) includes 1,200 tiny solar panels, each measuring just 5 by 1.5 millimeters. It can generate 400 milliwatts of electrical energy, enough to charge electronic devices. “Until now very few people have considered their clothing products could be used for charging electronic devices,” explains Theodore Hughes-Riley, an associate professor of Electronic Textiles. “The material which we have developed appears and behaves the same as any ordinary fabric, as it can be washed in a machine. Besides, because the tiny solar cells are comprised of silicon (硅), wearers aren’t able to even notice a discrepancy between the fabric’s composition and that of standard clothing.” Potential products include items like outerwear, backpacks and other carrying bags using the material, all of which could allow wearers to keep their devices charged during the day. “Electronic fabrics really have the potential to change people’s relationship with technology, as this prototype shows how we could live without charging many devices on the wall,” adds Theodore. Solar power innovations are key to transforming human society from fossil fuel technologies, and are coming into a variety of fields. The European Space Agency, for example, plans to experiment with solar panel systems orbiting above Earth. Since there are no real “days” or “nights” in space, potential solar power generation could be as much as 8 or 9 times greater than what’s currently achievable here on Earth’s surface. As powerful as that may one day be for us, it’s encouraging to know even changes like the composition of our clothing can help promote the necessary renewable energy shift for our species. 8. Why is the new fabric special? A. It can adjust people’ body temperatures. B. It can change clothes’ colors in the sun. C. It can produce electricity from sunlight. D. It is much tougher than standard clothing. 9. What does the underlined word “discrepancy” in paragraph 3mean? A. Distinction. B. Mismatch. C. Improvement. D. Similarity. 10. How does the innovation impact our relationship with technology according Theodore? A. By making electronic devices much cheaper. B By decreasing the demand for fixed chargers. C. By making us more aware of our energy use. D. By increasing our dependence on electronics. 11. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Solar power is more useful in space than on Earth. B. Solar energy will soon take the place of fossil fuels. C. Space exploration has no impact on Earth’s energy. D. Small changes can lead to a renewable energy future. D The American Psychological Association (APA) has issued its first guidance on teens’ social media use. What’s most surprising in its data-based recommendations is how little we know about how these apps influence our kids, which means little research is available about their long-term effects on teens’ brains. Getting better data will require a lot of money and much more openness from tech companies. What little evidence we do have unsurprisingly suggests that social media operates on motivators that aren’t great for young brains. “Many kids start using social media at the worst possible time when it comes to brain development”, says Mitch Prinstein, a psychologist at the University of North Carolina. “Things like the ’like’ button and artificial intelligence are going to influence young people’s brains in a way that’s very different from adult brains when it comes to the desire to stay online and to say or do almost anything to get followers.” When it comes to social interactions, he compares kids’ brains to a car with a huge gas pedal (油门) and weak brakes (刹车). Earlier this year, Prinstein and his UNC colleagues published the results of one of the first studies of how the teenage brain reacts to social media. The team surveyed a group of middle students to understand their social media habits, and then stuck them in an MRI machine to watch their brains as they reacted to social rewards or punishments. They found that 12-year-olds who habitually checked social media had different neural patterns (神经模式), with more activity over time in parts of the brain related to enthusiasm and concentration. The team didn’t weigh in on whether those differences were good or bad. But their work points to the need for more research. It should also remind parents of the need to be aware of social media’s hidden influence on still-developing brains. 12. What does the APA report point out about social media apps? A. The dishonesty of social media. B. The influence of tech companies. C. The disadvantages of their motivators. D. The shortage of data on their influence. 13. Which word can best describe young brains in relation to social interactions? A. Tense. B. Limited. C. Uncontrolled D. Frightened 14. What did Prinstein’s team find in their study? A. Social media brought about a positive effect. B. 12-year-old kids were more enthusiastic than others. C. Regular social media checking changed neural patterns. D. Teen’s brain development determines social media habits. 15. What might be the best title for the text? A. The Limitations of Social Media on Teens B. The Guidance on Teens’Social Media Use C. The Useful Recommendations of Social Media D. He grew up in a very poor neighborhood. No one in his family had gone to college before. Actually, few people around him had received higher education. They all struggled to live a good life. Therefore, Billy knew nothing about colleges or scholarships and he never thought he would go to college one day. Although he was a smart boy, he didn’t study hard at school and often got into trouble with other teenagers in his neighborhood. One day, while Billy was walking on the playground, a boy of his age started making fun of him. Then that boy pushed him hard and Billy fell onto the ground. Billy became so angry that he stood up and beat that boy. So a fight began. It happened that Billy’s English teacher Mr. Smith was walking nearby. He immediately ran to the boys to stop the fight. Billy was a bit worried because he knew his teacher was very strict with students. He was afraid his teacher would punish him. However, to his astonishment, his teacher didn’t do that. “Billy, let’s have a talk,” said his teacher. Billy, not knowing what his teacher wanted to do, was very worried. But he nodded. So they went to a bench nearby and sat down. After they sat down, Mr. Smith began, “Billy, I know you’re a smart boy, but you’re wasting your life now. Why don’t you study hard to go to college so that you can change your life and have a bright future?” Hearing that, Billy didn’t know what to say. He had never thought about it. Billy was in silence. Mr. Smith continued, “I know you may have never thought about going to college. But everything is possible. When I was at your age, I was a troublemaker just like you and never thought I’d be able to go to college, either. It was all because of the support and encouragement of Mr. Howard, my math teacher in high school.” Paragraph 1: Then, Mr. Smith began to tell Billy his story. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Billy was greatly touched by Mr. Smith’s story. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026学年上学期高二期末考试 英语试题 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? Amazingly, Taylor had just taken a CPR course the day before. A. She passed out while waiting to bat. 4. D 5. B 6. B 7. B. By decreasing the demand for fixed chargers. C 9. A 10. B 11. 根据文章第二段“The prototype (原型) includes 1,200 tiny solar panels, each measuring just 5 by 1.5 millimeters. It can generate 400 milliwatts of electrical energy, enough to charge electronic devices.(原型机包括1200块微型太阳能电池板,每块只有5乘1.5毫米。它可以产生400毫瓦的电能,足以给电子设备充电)”可知,这种新型织物的特殊之处在于它能从阳光中产生电力,故选C项。 【9题详解】 词义猜测题。根据画线词上文“The material which we have developed appears and behaves the same as any ordinary fabric, as it can be washed in a machine. (我们开发出的材料看起来和表现都与普通织物一样,因为它可以用洗衣机洗) ”开发出的材料看起来和表现都与普通织物一样,因此穿着者甚至不能注意到这种织物和普通衣服成分之间的差异之处。故划线词意为“差异”,与A选项“Distinction.(差别)”为同义词,故选A项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段中Theodore的话“Electronic fabrics really have the potential to change people’s relationship with technology, as this prototype shows how we could live without charging many devices on the wall, (电子织物真的有可能改变人们与技术的关系,因为这个原型展示了我们如何在不依赖墙上的许多充电设备的情况下生活)”可知,这种创新通过减少对固定充电器的需求来影响我们与技术的关系,故选B项。 根据文章最后一段“As powerful as that may one day be for us, it’s encouraging to know even changes like the composition of our clothing can help promote the necessary renewable energy shift for our species. The Hidden Impact of Social Media on Teens’ Brains 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. C 15. Howard, my math teacher in high school.” 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。 Paragraph 1: Then Mr. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Paragraph 1: Then Mr. Smith began to tell Billy his story. “At that time, I usually skipped classes and every teacher was seemingly used to that except Mr Howard. He arrested me again and again, so finally I yielded in case of meeting his disappointed eyes. And he noticed my change and talked with me about future patiently. It was the first time I had heard somebody who advised me to further my education and I began to study hard to be admitted into a college with the help of scholarship. And finally I made it.” Paragraph 2: Billy was greatly touched by Mr.Smith’s story. So he began to listen to the teachers carefully in class and finish his homework by himself. Fortunately, Mr. Smith was willing to help him make up what he missed before and other teachers were all glad to see his change and answer his question with patience. Eventually, with Billy’s effort and his teachers’ support, he was admitted into a famous college and became a doctor. 词汇激活 行为类 ①习惯于:be used to/get accustomed to ②屈服:yield/give in/surrender ③注意到:notice/see/spot 情绪类 ①失望的:disappointed/frustrated/depressed ②高兴的:glad/happy/pleased 【点睛】[高分句型1] It was the first time I had heard somebody who advised me to further my education and I began to study hard to be admitted into a college with the help of scholarship.
