He had a good life. But he worried about the damage humans were doing to the environment. He also believed people bought more things than they needed. Boyle wished we grew our own food and made our own furniture, so we wouldn't waste as much as we do today. So one day, he left his job and started an experiment — could he live for a year without buying anything? He sold his houseboat and moved into an old mobile home. He got it for free from a website where people give away things they don’t want. It wasn’t as comfortable as his old place at first, but he soon made it feel like home. He parked it on a farm near Bristol, England, Instead of paying rent, he worked on the farm. He burned wood from the forest to heat his home, so he didn’t pay electricity or gas bills. Boyle didn’t go shopping, either. He grew his own fruit and vegetables. He also looked for food in the garbage cans of supermarkets and cooked it on a wood stove. He made his own toothpaste (牙膏) from fish bones and seeds. To wash his clothes, he used a special type of nut to make soap. Boyle even built his own toilet and used old newspapers from the farm for toilet paper. He began using money again after eighteen months. He says his life change made him feel healthier, happier, and closer to nature. He wrote two books about his experience and used the money to start “The Free House”, a farm in Ireland where people can live without money. 24. What did Boyle decide to do? A. To try a different way of living. B. To start growing organic food. C. To buy more things than needed. D. To do an experiment in his company. 25. What do we know about Boyle’s mobile home? A. It was heated by electricity. B. It was given away by someone. C. It was adapted from his houseboat. D. It was parked on a farm in Bristol. 26. What can we infer from the text? A. Boyle didn’t like working on the farm. B. Boyle cooked food using garbage cans. C. Boyle got some money from his books. D. Boyle didn’t use money for two years. 27. What can be the best title for the text? A. The Free House. B. A Difficult Decision. C. The Key to Success. D. A Life Without Money. C At a recycling center, two team members spend all day pulling items from a conveyor belt covered in garbage (垃圾). One pulls out juice cartons and plastic bottles that can be reprocessed, while the other searches for pollutants in the stream of paper products. They are AI-powered robots that each look like a supercharged mechanical arm. Yes, even recycling has gotten involved in the AI revolution. In theory, materials recovery facilities (MRFs) gather the wastes, sort them out, and then sell the materials to companies that can reuse them. In practice, the MRFs aren’t all that good. The issue is that it’s long been too hard for recycling plants to sort materials with the level of specificity needed to reuse them. The traditional recycling methods succeed in separating waste into broad categories of paper, glass, and metal. But finer layers of detail often go unnoticed, especially with plastic. It’s hard for recyclers to determine whether, say, a container is a milk container or a pesticide (杀虫剂) container. AI stands to make a change, giving recycling plants a far more detailed view into packaging. The AI-powered recycling robots are “vision systems”. In the same way ChatGPT is trained, they ingest lots of photographs of thrown-away items in various states of damage. The robots are then able to identify even tiny differences in a product’s color, shape, texture, or logo. Recycling operators said that traditional systems tend to be 85 to 95 percent accurate, while robotics companies claim up to 99 percent accuracy. That is not to say that the turn to AI has already fixed recycling. The high-tech systems won’t come cheap — an individual robot can cost as much as $300,000. Even if costs eventually decrease, recycling robots can’t change the fact that recycling, even at its best, is just not a particularly efficient way of dealing with single-use products. From a perspective focused on plastic pollution, what’s better than a recyclable single-use cup is not using one at all. 28. What is described in the first paragraph? A. A common sight of a recycling center. B. The power of AI to change an industry. C. A display of difficulties in waste sorting. D. The application of AI tools in recycling. 29. What is the challenge faced by recycling plants? A. The accuracy of waste sorting. B. The efficiency of waste management. C. The low profit from selling reusable materials. D. The unnoticed danger in collecting waste materials. 30 What does the underlined word “ingest” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Edit. B. Absorb. C. Copy. D. Download. 31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Single-use products should be limited. B. Costs of high-tech systems will increase. C. AI will be the final frontier of recycling. D. Recyclable products should be advocated. D Curiosity — the desire to know, to discover, to learn. Inspired by curiosity, humans are found everywhere on our planet, and beyond it in space. Yet according to human behaviourist and author of Curious, Ian Leslie, although we are all born curious, not all of us bring this into adulthood, and we can lose out as a result. As Leslie explains, curiosity shapes us from the start. By trying new things, we build knowledge, and want to know more. “We are born aware that we don’t know stuff — we want to experience and discover.” However, the contrast between childhood and adulthood is clear. “We ask 40,000 questions a year between the ages of two and five,” says Leslie — around 110 each day; adults, in comparison, ask just 20. As we get older, we may feel hesitant about asking questions, believing this reveals gaps in our knowledge. We can become scared to share unconventional ideas for fear of criticism or misunderstanding. We can also be a victim of our success, as Leslie explains. “Once you’ve worked out how to do your job, then you don’t feel curious anymore. The need to learn goes away — in a way, curiosity has done its job. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cultivate it.” Leslie’s tips for cultivating curiosity begin with spending time with the experts — children. “Talk to your kids, and try to answer those weird, difficult questions they have — like ‘What is air?’ This makes you think about things you’ve taken for granted — it reawakens your curiosity in what’s around us and how we perceive the world.” So does finding what Leslie calls an ‘informal mentor’, through work or other circles, who is happy to share their expertise, from a skill, technology, to a field of learning. “Try to think of people the way children think of adults — as sources of secret knowledge, a great store of learning you can tap into,” says Leslie. Leslie also suggests creating a ‘spark file’ — a digital or physical notebook in which you collect interesting thoughts. “Fill it with facts you’ve come across, sentences you like, insights that strike you. Let it be random. And let it build. Over time you’ll build up a rich source of inspiration, and you’ll think, ‘Oh that’s interesting, that relates to this…’ And suddenly your mind starts firing away with new ideas and ways of thinking.” 32. According to Leslie, what happens as we get older? A. We gradually lose our natural curiosity. B. We are less aware of our knowledge gaps. C. We are unwilling to let others benefit from our ideas. D. We may think asking questions makes people foolish. 33. Which of the following sayings might Leslie agree with? A. A day’s planning is best done at daybreak. B. In the eyes of a lover, Xi Shi will appear. C. A master can lead you to the door, but the rest is up to you. D. When three people walk together, one can surely be my teacher. 34. Which of the following is a characteristic of a ‘spark file’? A. It is carefully organized. B. It can help people connect ideas. C. It only contains complete sentences. D. It can help people improve their memory. 35. What is the writer’s aim in this passage? A. To prove Ian Leslie’s arguments. B. To summarise Ian Leslie’s viewpoint. C. To question Ian Leslie’s conclusions. D. To introduce Ian Leslie’s achievements. One of the most important keys is making sure that kids are getting the message you're trying to send. Her car was parked messily in the driveway, and she seemed to be in a hurry. We decided to ask if she needed any help. As we walked over, she was struggling to carry a large box. I offered to take it from her, and she gratefully handed it to me. She explained that she was moving some of her late(已故的) husband’s things to a storage unit. Her voice trembled as she mentioned her husband, and I could see the pain in her eyes. Over the next few hours, Alex and I helped her load more boxes into her car. We listened as she shared stories full of love about her husband and the life they had together. It was clear that this was a very emotional time for her. Mrs. Thompson thanked us for the timely help, and for a moment, her face seemed to relax a bit. However, later in the day, things took a turn. As we were about to leave, we overheard Mrs. Thompson on the phone. She was arguing with someone about money. It seemed that there were some unexpected bills related to the storage unit, and she was worried about how she would pay them. Alex immediately suggested that we pool our savings to help her, but I hesitated. I had been saving up for a new pair of sneakers(运动鞋) for a long time, and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to give that up. The sneakers were limited edition, and I had been eyeing them for months. I really wanted those sneakers, yet I knew Mrs. Thompson was in a tough spot. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With hearts beating fast, we walked up to Mrs. Thompson with some savings. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 昭通市普通高中云南师范大学附属镇雄中学教研联盟 2025~2026学年秋季学期高二年级质量检测 英语 考生注意: 1. How much is the shirt? The race set off from Lorient, France, on May 29, 2021. Teams of six to 10 people sailed the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea to the finish line, in Genoa, Italy. That’s where the race ended on June 19, 2021. Two classes of speedy sailboats raced in the event: the IMOCA and the VO65. Offshore Team Germany won the IMOCA class race. And Portugal’s Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team won the VO65 class. The Ocean Race Europe presented plenty of challenges. Teams were on their boats for three weeks. When you were on-board, all you do was race, eat, and sleep. There was no Internet connection and there were no movies. There wasn’t even a fridge or a freezer inside the boat. The Ocean Race Europe has a larger purpose. During the race, the boats collected scientific data from the salty waters. The data is shared with scientists. It provides insight about how the ocean is affected by climate change. Scientists use the data to further understand and advocate the world’s changing environment and seas. A The Giant Panda House It’s home to not only two giant pandas Yingying and Lele, but also many rare and cute animals such as cuddly red pandas and giant salamanders. Not even a cent? One man decided to try it out, Mark Boyle was a successful manager of an organic food company in Ireland. A 25. B 26. C 27. 根据第一段“So one day, he left his job and started an experiment — could he live for a year without buying anything?(所以有一天,他辞去了工作,开始了一个实验——他能否一年不买任何东西?)” 故选A。 根据第二段“He got it for free from a website where people give away things they don’t want.(他是从一个人们赠送自己不想要的东西的网站上免费得到的。)” 根据最后一段“He wrote two books about his experience and used the money to start “The Free House”.(他写了两本关于自己经历的书,并用这笔钱创办了“免费之家”。)” 根据第二段中“So one day, he left his job and started an experiment—could he live for a year without buying anything?(于是有一天,他辞掉了工作,开启了一项实验 —— 他能否一整年不买任何东西活下去?)” D。 C At a recycling center, two team members spend all day pulling items from a conveyor belt covered in garbage (垃圾). 30. What does the underlined word “ingest” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Edit. B. Absorb. C. Copy. D. Download. 31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Single-use products should be limited. B. Costs of high-tech systems will increase. C. AI will be the final frontier of recycling. D. Recyclable products should be advocated. D 29. A 30. B 31. 根据第一段“They are AI-powered robots that each look like a supercharged mechanical arm. Yes, even recycling has gotten involved in the AI revolution.(它们是由人工智能驱动的机器人,每个看起来都像一个超级机械臂。是的,就连回收行业也卷入了人工智能革命。)”可知,第一段描述了人工智能工具在回收行业的应用。故选D。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The issue is that it’s long been too hard for recycling plants to sort materials with the level of specificity needed to reuse them.(问题是,长期以来,回收厂很难以再利用所需的精确程度对材料进行分类。)” 故选A。 根据下文“The robots are then able to identify even tiny differences in a product’s color, shape, texture, or logo.(然后能够识别出产品在颜色、形状、质地或商标上的细微差异。)”和划线词所在的句子“In the same way ChatGPT is trained, they ingest lots of photographs of thrown-away items in various states of damage.(就像 ChatGPT 的训练方式一样,它们____大量不同破损状态的废弃物品照片。)” 根据最后一段“From a perspective focused on plastic pollution, what’s better than a recyclable single-use cup is not using one at all.(从关注塑料污染的角度来看,与其使用可回收的一次性杯子,不如根本不使用。)” A。 D Curiosity — the desire to know, to discover, to learn. 32. A 33. D 34. B 35. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cultivate it.”( 随着年龄的增长,我们可能会对提问感到犹豫,认为这暴露了我们知识上的差距。 故选A。 根据第四段内容,结合本段中“Leslie’s tips for cultivating curiosity begin with spending time with the experts — children.( Leslie培养好奇心的建议是从花时间和专家——孩子们——在一起开始的)”及“This makes you think about things you’ve taken for granted — it reawakens your curiosity in what’s around us and how we perceive the world.(这会让你思考你认为理所当然的事情——它会重新唤醒你对我们周围的事物以及我们如何看待世界的好奇心)”可知,Leslie建议和孩子们在一起来培养好奇心,由此可推知他会同意D项观点“三人行,必有我师”。 根据最后一段首句“Leslie also suggests creating a ‘spark file’ — a digital or physical notebook in which you collect interesting thoughts.(Leslie还建议创建一个‘火花文件’——一个可以收集有趣想法的电子或实体笔记本)”及“Over time you’ll build up a rich source of inspiration, and you’ll think, ‘Oh that’s interesting, that relates to this…’(随着时间的推移,你会建立一个丰富的灵感来源,你会想,‘哦,这很有趣,这和这个有关……’)” 通读全文,结合第一段最后一句“Yet according to human behaviourist and author of Curious, Ian Leslie, although we are all born curious, not all of us bring this into adulthood, and we can lose out as a result.(然而,根据人类行为学家、《好奇》一书的作者Ian Leslie的说法,尽管我们生来就有好奇心,但并不是所有人都会在成年后变得好奇,因此我们可能会因此而失败)”可知,本文主要介绍了Ian Leslie关于好奇心的观点。 One of the most important keys is making sure that kids are getting the message you're trying to send. When you communicate with kids, sometimes the way instructions (指令) are given can be just as important as what you're trying to communicate. ___36___ Be direct. Make statements rather than asking questions. “Please turn right,” as opposed to “Are you ready to get out your homework?” ___37___ Give instructions when you are near the child, rather than calling out from across the room. Use clear and specific commands (命令). Instead of “Go ahead,” say, “Please turn right at the second crossing. ” Give instructions one at a time. ___38___ “Please put on your coat, get your lunch off the kitchen counter, and meet me in the front door.” Keep explanations easy. Giving a rationale (根本原因) can increase the likelihood children will listen to a command. For example, “Go get your coat on because it's raining.___39___” Instead, try: “It’s raining and I don’t want you to catch a cold. Go get your coat on. Give kids time to process. After you give an instruction, wait a few seconds, without repeating what you said. They don't need to listen. ___40___ Watching and waiting also helps keep adults from doing what we’ve requested of our kids for them. A. Be close. B. Don't give them one by one. C. I don't want you to catch a cold. D. Do shout out as loudly as possible. E. Try to avoid giving instructions all together. F. This is because the instructions will be repeated. G. Here are the practical ways to present information to the kids 【答案】36. G 37. A 38. E 39. C 40. 【36题详解】 根据上文“When you communicate with kids, sometimes the way instructions (指令) are given can be just as important as what you're trying to communicate.”(当你和孩子交流时,有时候给出指示的方式和你想要传达的内容一样重要。) Here are the practical ways to present information to the kids.(以下是向孩子们展示信息的实用方法。) 该段下文“Give instructions when you are near the child, rather than calling out from across the room.”(当你靠近孩子的时候,要给予指示,而不是在房间的另一头大声喊叫。) 结合选项A项Be close.(保持亲近。) 故选A项。 【38题详解】 根据上文“Give instructions one at a time.”(每次只给一个指示。) 以及下文““Please put on your coat, get your lunch off the kitchen counter, and meet me in the front door.””(“请穿上外套,把你的午餐从厨房柜台上拿下来,然后在前门等我。”) Try to avoid giving instructions all together.(尽量避免一起下达指令。) 【39题详解】 根据下文“Instead, try: “It’s raining and I don’t want you to catch a cold. Go get your coat on.”(相反,你可以说:“下雨了,我不想让你感冒。” I don't want you to catch a cold.(我不想让你感冒。) 【40题详解】 根据上文“After you give an instruction, wait a few seconds, without repeating what you said. They don't need to listen.”(在你给出指示后,等几秒钟,不要重复你说的话。 This is because the instructions will be repeated.(这是因为指令会被重复。) It was 7 in the morning. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 I really wanted those sneakers, yet I knew Mrs. Thompson was in a tough spot. Alex kept looking at me with begging eyes. I felt so torn, my mind full of a mix of guilt and longing. The picture of the cool sneakers kept appearing in my head, but so did Mrs. Thompson’s sad expression. After what seemed like a really long time of struggling inside myself, I took a deep breath and nodded at Alex. We quickly figured out how much money we could give without using up all our savings. With hearts beating fast, we walked up to Mrs. Thompson with some savings. When we held out the money to her, her eyes opened wide in shock. We told her it was the least we could do and we hoped she could soon go through the hard time. Her thankfulness was really strong, and she gave us both a big hug. In that moment, I realized that the happiness of helping her was much greater than the short-lived excitement of getting those sneakers. The experience taught me that real value isn’t in things we own but in the relationships we make and the kindness we show. Thompson。 词汇激活 行为类 ①盯着看:look at/stare at ②度过:go through/get through ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①震惊:shock/astonishment ②感激:thankfulness/gratitude 【点睛】[高分句型1] After what seemed like a really long time of struggling inside myself, I took a deep breath and nodded at Alex. (句中含有what引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] In that moment, I realized that the happiness of helping her was much greater than the short-lived excitement of getting those sneakers.(句中含有that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
