Better Self, Better Future
Everyone wants to be a better person, and so do I. In the past, I was not good at English. I always felt shy and afraid to speak in class. My words were slow and full of mistakes.
To get better, I decided to practice every day. I learned five new words each morning and listened to English songs often. I also started to read short stories in English. Slowly, my English improved. Now, I can talk with my teacher in simple English, and my test scores are much higher.
In the new year, I want to keep improving. I plan to watch one English cartoon every week and try to write a short diary in English. I believe that if I keep working hard, I will have more chances and a better future.

Becoming a doctor has always been my dream. That’s not only because of the respect that comes with the profession but also because of the huge influence doctors have on people and society.
When I was young, my mother, who was a nurse at our local hospital, often took me to work on weekends. There I saw doctors work day and night. I saw that poor people suffered and sometimes died because they couldn’t afford(承担) medical care. So I often imagined myself wearing a white coat, helping patients(病人) and changing their lives. This picture has always motivated me to study hard to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor.
The early part of this journey began with my favourite subject, biology. It has led me to get a deeper understanding of the profession of a doctor. However, I know that realizing this dream is not easy. I’ll work hard to finish my studies and make my dream come true.
As a future doctor, I see it as my duty to spare a few days every month to treat people in need for free. This can help them get medical attention, and offering such care is the best way I can give back to society.
For me, being a doctor is a lifetime goal. By providing patients with medical treatment, a doctor helps other people feel better and brings happiness to them and their families. In this way, becoming a doctor is not only an excellent job choice but also a way to feel happy and proud inside. After all, nothing compares to the joy of saving lives.

Relationships with your siblings(兄弟姐妹) can help you practice social skills. Having a good relationship with them can help you communicate with other people, and understand other people’s feelings. You can even learn things when you don’t get on with your siblings. When you have argued with them, you have to work out how to be in the same space as them. As a result, you often learn how to accept differences. It is very useful in the outside world.
It’s completely normal(正常的) that sometimes you and your sibling won’t see eye to eye. “Have a good think about why the two of you don’t get on. Try to talk when you both cool down,’’ says Dr Owen, a researcher in how children develop. “Tell them how you feel. You could say, ‘It really hurts me when you make jokes about me.’ If the trouble carries on, talk to a trusted adult(成年人).”

Last spring, my friends and I decided to go camping. We were very excited about the idea. We could make a campfire, look at stars, and have fun together. “Let’s just go now!” said my friend Tom. “If we make too many plans, it won’t be an adventure.” I agreed with him. I thought plans were only for schoolwork, not for fun.
But our trip was a big problem. First, we forgot to check the weather report. Soon after we arrived, it started to rain heavily. We didn’t bring good raincoats or enough water. Then, my friend Jake cut his finger when he tried to make dinner. We had no bandage to help him. We all began to argue. “Why didn’t you bring that?” “I thought you had it!” We felt cold, wet, and unhappy.
Sitting in our wet tent, I understood something important. Making a plan doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. It means you are ready for problems. A simple plan would have saved our trip. For example, a list of things to bring and checking the weather first.
Now, I always make a simple plan before I do something, even if it’s just a day out. It doesn’t mean every minute must be planned. It just means thinking about what might happen and getting ready for it. This way, I can relax and really enjoy myself. That bad camping trip taught me that a little planning actually gives you more freedom, not less. You can have real fun when you don’t have to worry about problems all the time.
69. Why didn’t they make a plan at first?
A. They thought planning made things less fun. B. They were good at camping.
C. They didn’t have enough time to plan things. D. They wanted to save money.

C. They met many problems. D. Everything went well as they wanted.
71. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The weather report. B. The tent. C. The raincoat. D. The bandage.
72. What does the writer think about planning now?
A. Planning is only necessary for schoolwork. B. Planning takes away freedom and fun.
C. A simple plan helps you get ready for problems. D. Planning every minute is important.
