In a gentle, melodic voice like singing, Mwamikazi asked her a series of questions: “How are you? How is your husband? How are your kids? How are your cows? Are you on good terms with your neighbors?” Pausing her song, Mwamikazi allowed Ineza to reply — a familiar rhythm from her many years of practice. “Ego,” Ineza answered repeatedly in their local Kirundi language, meaning “yes”. Together, they were performing akazehe which was passed down from their ancestors. A group of neighbors watched with quiet surprise; for many, it was their first time to see this unique custom, which is performed only by women. In modern Burundi, however, such scenes are becoming rare. Among young people, few know what akazehe means, and even fewer can perform it. Many have stopped practicing this greeting, despite its beautiful purpose: to make the person greeted feel truly loved and valued, and to strengthen community bonds. Although Ineza is today a teacher in Bujumbura who understands its value, recalling her own first encounter as a young girl on the central plateau (高原), she felt surprised and a little uneasy when greeted with such a song-like embrace. “I couldn’t stand it, and I wanted her to finish quickly,” she admits, “even though the words were sweet to hear for some people.” However, with time, she has come to deeply believe that customs like akazehe should be preserved at all costs for their vital role in protecting families. In communities that keep this practice, women can share worries about home life with elder women during the greeting, opening the door to support from the extended family. Ineza emphasizes this elder guidance helps develop better emotional well-being for younger families, strengthening the entire community. 4. Which word best describes Mwamikazi’s questions? A. False. B. Caring. C. Embarrassing. D. Comic. 5. What does the underlined word “akazehe” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. A rare drama. B. A family gathering. C. A form of musical greeting. D. A type of traditional dancing. 6. What can we infer about akazehe from paragraph 4? A. It is at risk of disappearing. B. It is preferred by the young. C. It is performed by most elders. D. It is a way to show one’s own beauty. 7. How did Ineza feel when she was initially greeted by akazehe? A. Unbearable. B. Afraid. C. Grateful. D. Calm. C The ongoing climate change is ready to have serious and lasting consequences for plants across the globe. A research conducted by Liverpool John Moores University, UK is primarily focused on exploring how the nutritional content of food crops may be affected by the interacting effects of rising CO2 levels and increasing temperatures associated with climate change. The research is focused on popular leafy vegetables, including kale, rocket and spinach. For this project, these crops are grown in environment-controlled growth rooms at Liverpool John Moores University, and the CO2 and temperature levels are changed to look like the UK’s predicted future climate conditions. After the plants have been grown under climate change conditions, their nutritional quality was analyzed. Early results from this project suggest that raised levels of atmospheric CO2 can help crops grow faster and bigger, but certainly not healthier. After some time, the crops showed a reduction in key minerals like Ca and certain antioxidant compounds These changes were worsened by rising temperatures. A key early finding is that different crops have responded differently to these climate change stressors, with some species reacting more intensely than others. “This diversity in response highlights that we can’t generalize across crop species. This complexity has been both fascinating and challenging and reminds us why it’s important to study multiple stressors together,” says Jiata Ugwah Ekele, a PhD student at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. This nutritional imbalance poses serious health implications for humanity. While higher CO2 levels can increase the concentration of sugars in crops, it can decrease essential proteins, minerals and antioxidants. “This changed balance could contribute to diets that are higher in calories but poorer in nutritional value,” says Ms. Ekele. “Increased sugar content in crops, especially fruits and vegetables, could lead to greater risks of extreme overweight and type 2 diabetes — particularly in populations already struggling with these diseases.” 8. What is the focus of the study? A. Future climate conditions in the UK. B. New types of leafy vegetables in the UK. C. The way to grow crops faster in greenhouses. D. Climate change and its impact on crop nutrition. 9. What was the condition of the crops grown for this research project? A. Thinner air. B. Controlled water. C. Higher CO2 level. D. Lower temperature. 10. How does Ms. Ekele sound in the last paragraph? A. Annoyed. B. Concerned. C. Satisfied. D. Confident. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Bigger crops, fewer nutrients B. Faster growth, richer minerals C. Warmer climate, balanced crops D. Higher CO2, healthier vegetables D How we perceive (感知) the natural world has implications for our health. Previous research has suggested that it is perceived biodiversity, rather than measured biodiversity, and that it is linked to our well-being. To understand what indicators of biodiversity people were perceiving, some researchers conducted a new study. They asked the study participants with no ecological training to sort images and audio (声音的) recordings of forests based on perceived biodiversity. They also asked the participants to sort the images and audio recordings according to any criteria that stood out to them. The researchers found that the biodiversity levels that participants perceived from the images and audio recordings closely matched the actual biodiversity of the forests. Visually, people noticed vegetation density, light conditions or color. Acoustically (听觉上), people noticed birdsong characteristics, volume or emotions that the audio caused. “Not only are we experiencing an extinction of species, but also an extinction of biodiverse experiences,” said lead author Kevin Rozario. “We recommend to conserve and restore diverse forests characterised by a variety of tree species and structures to also provide habitats for different vocalising bird species. These conservation measures will have the double benefit of meeting conservation goals while also increasing people’s experience of biodiversity and therefore likely increasing mental well-being.” The researchers caution that people’s abilities to accurately perceive biodiversity may rely on them being able to directly compare environments with different biodiversity levels. They point to similar studies that found that participants could not easily perceive biodiversity when they were asked to rate one environment on their own. The researchers also note that the majority of their study participants were university- educated women and that future studies could look to follow their methods with more representative samples of the general population. 12. What did the participants do in the study? A. Appreciated rare images. B. Took ecological training. C. Classified pictures of forests. D. Recorded sounds of birds. 13. Why does Kevin emphasize the protection of diverse forests? A. To keep humans and nature healthy. B. To make forests more attractive. C. To better promote biodiversity. D. To protect all animal species. 14. How may one feel when assessing the biodiversity of a single environment? A. It’s a piece of cake. B. It’s a standard case. C. It’s hard to conclude. D. It’s a familiar issue. 15. Why do researchers mention the educated women? A. To draw general attention to them. B. To state the limitation of the study. C. To call for more people to participate. D. To make comparison with previous studies. The first day of school is always exciting for both teachers and students. Tired of city life, I hoped for adventure. Grandpa, seeing my boredom, handed me not seeds, but a box of small plants. “We start with young plants, David. These will flower and bear fruit, producing eggplants (茄子). They love summer.” He also showed me a separate tomato field. Grandma smiled nearby. “Look, these purple tomatoes, eggplants’ neighbors, will flower too! Nature has its own plans,” she said. My labor began not with waiting, but with doing. I decided to help transplant each young eggplant into the soft earth under my grandpa’s guidance. Over the summer, the garden became my project. In the hot sun, I learned to work the land, water deeply, and tie the growing plants to strong sticks. Grandma taught me to check the leaves. One morning, I found holes in the eggplant leaves! I was at a loss about what to do, so I called Grandpa. Calmly, he prepared a spray (喷雾) made of garlic and pepper. “We protect, not attack,” he said. As we sprayed, I noticed the nearby tomato plants stood unharmed, their distinct smell filling the air. Slowly, my plants recovered, stronger than before. By September, the plants were tall and full. Excited about the harvest, I returned one sunny weekend. The air was cool and sweet. I bent down, searching under the broad leaves. My fingers found smooth, shiny eggplants, cool to the touch. Deep in the corner where the two plant families met, I saw a perfect, round, deep purple fruit half-hidden. Thinking it the best “eggplant” of all, I gently picked it off, its stem (茎) feeling oddly smooth. I could imagine the” eggplant “dish would be the highlight of the dinner. That evening, Grandma suggested I cook. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “I had mistaken the tomato for the eggplant,” I smiled awkwardly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025—2026学年度第一学期高二期末学业水平调研题 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? Mwamikazi, an elderly woman, warmly held Ineza, a younger woman she had not seen for months. A. Unbearable. B. Afraid. C. Grateful. D. Calm. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段“In a gentle, melodic voice like singing, Mwamikazi asked her a series of questions: “How are you? How is your husband? How are your kids? How are your cows? Are you on good terms with your neighbors?” (Mwamikazi用温柔如歌声般的语调,问了她一连串问题:“你好吗?你丈夫好吗?孩子们好吗?家里的牛怎么样?你和邻居相处得好吗?)”可知,这些问题充满了对对方生活的关心。故选B。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段“Pausing her song, Mwamikazi allowed Ineza to reply — a familiar rhythm from her many years of practice. (Mwamikazi停下歌声,让Ineza先来回答——这是她多年练习中惯用的语调)”、第三段“Together, they were performing akazehe which was passed down from their ancestors. A group of neighbors watched with quiet surprise; for many, it was their first time to see this unique custom, which is performed only by women. (她们共同表演着从祖先那里传承下来的akazehe。一群邻居安静又惊讶地看着,对很多人来说,这是他们第一次看到这种仅由女性进行的独特习俗)”及第四段“Many have stopped practicing this greeting, despite its beautiful purpose: to make the person greeted feel truly loved and valued, and to strengthen community bonds. (尽管它的美好初衷是让被问候的人感受到真正的爱与重视,并加强社区之间的联系,但很多人已经不再践行这种问候方式)”可知,akazehe是一种音乐性的问候形式。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“In modern Burundi, however, such scenes are becoming rare. Among young people, few know what akazehe means, and even fewer can perform it. (然而在现代布隆迪,这样的场景正变得越来越罕见。在年轻人中,几乎没人知道akazehe是什么意思,会表演的人就更少了)”可知,akazehe正面临消失的风险。故选A。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Although Ineza is today a teacher in Bujumbura who understands its value, recalling her own first encounter as a young girl on the central plateau (高原), she felt surprised and a little uneasy when greeted with such a song-like embrace. “I couldn’t stand it, and I wanted her to finish quickly,” she admits (尽管Ineza如今是布琼布拉的一名教师,她深知这种习俗的重要性,但回忆起自己年轻时在中央高原的第一次经历,当被这种如歌声般的拥抱问候时,她感到惊讶且有些不安。她坦言道:“我实在受不了,希望她能快点结束。”)”可知,Ineza最初对akazehe的感受是难以忍受的。故选A。 C The ongoing climate change is ready to have serious and lasting consequences for plants across the globe. After some time, the crops showed a reduction in key minerals like Ca and certain antioxidant compounds (抗氧化化合物). These changes were worsened by rising temperatures. Higher CO2, healthier vegetables 【答案】8. D 9. C 10. B 11. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍英国一项研究探讨气候变化下二氧化碳浓度和气温上升对作物营养成分的影响,及其带来的健康隐患。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“A research conducted by Liverpool John Moores University, UK is primarily focused on exploring how the nutritional content of food crops may be affected by the interacting effects of rising CO2 levels and increasing temperatures associated with climate change.(英国利物浦约翰摩尔斯大学开展的一项研究,主要聚焦于探索与气候变化相关的二氧化碳浓度上升和气温升高的共同作用,会如何影响粮食作物的营养成分)”可知,该研究的核心是气候变化及其对作物营养的影响。故选D项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“For this project, these crops are grown in environment-controlled growth rooms... and the CO2 and temperature levels are changed to look like the UK’s predicted future climate conditions.(在该项目中,这些作物种植在环境可控的生长室中,二氧化碳和气温水平被调节至英国未来预测的气候状况)”以及第三段中的“Early results from this project suggest that raised levels of atmospheric CO2 can help crops grow faster and bigger(该项目的初步结果表明,大气中二氧化碳浓度升高能促使作物长得更快、更大)”可知,研究中作物的生长环境具有较高的二氧化碳浓度。故选C项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段““This changed balance could contribute to diets that are higher in calories but poorer in nutritional value,” says Ms. Ekele. “Increased sugar content in crops, especially fruits and vegetables, could lead to greater risks of extreme overweight and type 2 diabetes — particularly in populations already struggling with these diseases.”(埃克莱女士表示:“这种营养平衡的改变,可能会导致人们的饮食热量更高、但营养价值却更低。”“农作物中糖分含量的增加 —— 尤其是果蔬类作物 —— 可能会提高重度肥胖和2型糖尿病的患病风险,对那些本就深受这些疾病困扰的人群来说,情况尤为严重。”)”可知,她的话语中充满了对作物营养变化给人类健康带来隐患的担忧。故选B项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合第三段中“Early results from this project suggest that raised levels of atmospheric CO2 can help crops grow faster and bigger, but certainly not healthier. After some time, the crops showed a reduction in key minerals like Ca and certain antioxidant compounds. These changes were worsened by rising temperatures.(该项目的初步研究结果显示,大气中二氧化碳浓度的升高确实能促进作物生长得更快、植株更大,但这绝不意味着作物变得更健康。经过一段时间的生长后,这些作物体内的钙等关键矿物质以及某些抗氧化化合物的含量均出现了下降,而气温的持续升高则进一步加剧了这些变化)”可知,文章核心围绕气候变化(二氧化碳浓度升高、气温上升)展开,指出其虽能让作物长得更大更快,但会导致关键矿物质、抗氧化化合物等营养成分减少,形成“作物更大,营养更少”的现象。A项“更大的作物,更少的营养”能概括主旨,适合作为本文标题。故选A项。 D How we perceive (感知) the natural world has implications for our health. 【答案】12. C 13. A 14. C 15. 注意: (1) 续写词数应为150个左右; (2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 That evening, Grandma suggested I cook. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “I had mistaken the tomato for the eggplant,” I smiled awkwardly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 That evening, Grandma suggested I cook. I proudly showed her my basket of harvest. When I took out the purple “eggplant” and began washing it, Grandma’s eyes widened. “David,” she said gently, her voice filled with amusement, “that’s not an eggplant. It’s a purple tomato!” My heart sank as I looked at the fruit in my hand, its smooth skin and familiar shape now clearly different from the eggplants’ firm, glossy texture. I felt a wave of embarrassment, realizing my carelessness in the excitement of the harvest. “I had mistaken the tomato for the eggplant,” I smiled awkwardly. Grandma patted my shoulder, her laughter warm and kind. “Nature does have its own plans,” she said, reminding me of her earlier words. She then explained that the tomato’s distinct smell, which I had noticed earlier, was a natural defense that the eggplants lacked. That evening, we cooked both the eggplants and the purple tomato together in a delicious stir-fry. The meal was more than a dish; it was a lesson about patience, observation, and the unexpected connections in a garden. My summer of labor had grown not just plants, but a deeper understanding of nature’s wisdom. 词汇激活: 行为类 ① 意识到:realize/be aware of ② 解释:explain/interpret ③ 烹饪:cook/make a dish 情绪类 ① 尴尬的:embarrassment/awkwardness ② 温柔的:gently/softly 【点睛】【高分句型1】 My heart sank as I looked at the fruit in my hand, its smooth skin and familiar shape now clearly different from the eggplants’ firm, glossy texture.(as引导时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】 She then explained that the tomato’s distinct smell, which I had noticed earlier, was a natural defense that the eggplants lacked.(which引导非限制性定语从句修饰smell, that引导限制性定语从句修饰defense) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
