I recently turned seventy. Seventy is a nice number for a chapter in a book, a score in a game, or a temperature in the summer, but it wasn’t a number I was ready to face in my life. I was stuck with this number and everything it means.
A few days after my birthday, a close friend remarked, “Seventy is the new sixty. ” This statement was meant to be encouraging, but it left me considering the changing meanings of age. Am I truly over the hill, or has society simply shifted the standard for aging? The physical challenges are undeniable. I can no longer run the marathons I once did, and my daily walks are now interrupted by pauses and rest.
Dr. Smith, a renowned gerontologist (老年病学家), often says, “You are not getting older, you are getting more mature.” While this may be true, it doesn’t change the fact that my body is aging, and the aches and pains are more frequent. I appreciate his viewpoint, but I know it’s time to face the realities of aging head-on.
As I step into my seventh decade, I tend to reflect on what it means to age. I see aging as a mixture of resilience and acceptance, a process that requires both fighting against the inevitable and embracing the changes that come. Aging is a natural part of life, and while I may no longer be the athlete I once was, I find new ways to stay active and engaged.
Seventy is a number that once seemed distant, but now it is my present reality. I am reminded of the words of the philosopher: “Old is always fifteen years from now.” This perspective helps me to stay positive, even as I acknowledge the physical limitations that come with age. The best may indeed be yet to come and I am determined to find the beauty in every new chapter.
24. What does the author imply at the beginning?
A. Time flies quickly. B. Only time will tell.
C. Time heals all wounds. D. Aging is a tough reality.
25. What does the underlined phrase “over the hill” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Passing one’s peak. B. Enjoying retirement life.
C. Reaching the top position. D. Facing physical challenges.
26. What can we learn from the author’s reflection on aging?
A. Aging is a contradictory but natural process. B. Aging is a clear decline in mental abilities.
C. There is no need to fight against our aging. D. The author will give up new activities.
27. How does the author feel about the future life?
A. Peaceful. B. Promising. C. Upset. D. Regretful.

Fabian Mdluli grew up in Acornhoek a rural town that borders Greater Kruger National Park. The park, home to lions, elephants, rhinos, and over 147 animal species, draws nearly two million visitors yearly. Like many young people living near one of South Africa’s 1,690 protected areas, however, 23-year-old Mdluli had never seen the country’s wildlife in person.
Last year, Fabian Mdluli became the first fully sponsored student in an initiative by Too Wild Productions to train South Africa’s next generation of wildlife filmmakers. Founded by zoologist-turned TV presenter Lauren Arthur and filmmakers David Eastaugh, the program provides hands-on experience in the wild. During the four-week course in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve (53,000 hectares, western Kruger), students develop technical skills while learning ethical storytelling to drive positive change. Mdluli describes it as transformational. “It helped me discover my passion — editing. It’s all about constructing the story.”
While Africa is a primary setting for many internationally acclaimed (受到称赞的) wildlife films, African voices remain scanty behind the camera. A 2022 report revealed that while 25% of film award submissions featured African wildlife, only 7% were actually made in Africa by Africans. A recent UNESCO report confirmed that the film and audiovisual sector in Africa generated just 20 billion.
At the same time, youth unemployment stands at more than 65% in rural communities within the Greater Kruger area, where poverty and unemployment are driving factors behind environmental challenges such as human-wildlife conflict. “We’ve seen these challenges with our own eyes and, while we don’t think we can solve these problems alone, we want to ensure those who live closest to these ecosystems have the tools, knowledge and opportunity to tell their own stories,” says Arthur.
While Mdluli has joined Too Wild as a junior editor, he’s eager to take on new opportunities in the industry. Arthur says they’ ll support him, as well as their current sponsored students, as much as they can. “Our biggest goal is to have production companies coming to us asking, ‘Hey, who are your local filmmakers? We want to hire them,’” says Arthur.
28. What can we know about young people near the protected areas?
A. They benefit from wildlife tourism. B. They all receive filmmaking training.
C. They can visit national parks regularly. D. They have little contact with wildlife.
29. What is the feature of Too Wild Productions?
A. It offers degree certificates. B. It provides practical field training.
C. It focuses on studio production. D. It admits international filmmakers.
30. What does the underlined word “scanty” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Active. B. Weak. C. Confident. D. Unique.
31. What is Arthur’s main expectation for the initiative?
A. To build a lasting local talent pool.
B. To produce popular wildlife films.
C. To encourage youths to work independently.
D. To arouse youths’ interest in the film industry.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly rewiring childhood, bringing both brilliant opportunities and severe risks to children’s growth.
This year, AI-powered toys like talking robots and teddies have become popular among kids, while older children are addicted to viral AI-generated videos and games. At school, many students learn with AI-created materials, and some even study with AI tutors. AI promises every child a personalized upbringing previously available only to the wealthy — private tutoring, tailored courses and customized entertainment. For example, AI can rewrite articles for an 8-year-old Hindi speaker or turn text into cartoons, and help students escape “one-size-fits-all” classes where bright pupils feel bored and struggling ones fall behind. New forms of fun are also created: AI-enhanced games allow kids to chat with their heroes, and young people enjoy making and sharing AI videos.
However, it is a future filled with opportunities and hidden traps. AI tutors may give wrong answers, and some AI toys have been found to produce inappropriate content. Children may misuse AI to cheat on homework or bother others with “deepfake” videos. More seriously, AI tends to push what children like most, strengthening “echo chamber” effect and making them lose the ability to tolerate unfamiliar things. Besides, one-sided relationships with AI companions, which never criticize or share real feelings make it hard for kids to deal with imperfect humans. A third of US teens say chatting with AI is as satisfying as talking to friends, which may weaken their real-world communication and compromise skills.
Some techno-optimists argue that these concerns are overstated, suggesting AI offers a low-pressure environment to practice social skills without fear of judgment. However, this view may underestimate how the absence of true give-and-take and conflict in AI interactions could create an abnormal blueprint for human connection. The risk is not that children will interact with machines, but that they might come to expect the same effortless agreement and lack of genuine emotional exchange from their peers.
To address these issues, urgent measures are needed: strict age restrictions on AI chatbots, more in-school assessments to prevent cheating, and parents should be cautious about AI tools for kids. Schools, as key places for childhood growth, should make good use of effective AI tutoring while focusing on skills that AI cannot replace — debating, disagreeing and getting along with others. They should also provide more chances for kids to explore new ideas and encounter different people. While AI clearly has great potential to improve education and entertainment, the luckiest children may be those whose parents and teachers know when to turn it off.
32. What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A. AI takes the place of human teachers.
B. AI helps equalize teaching resources.
C. AI guarantees children a promising future.
D. AI generates boredom of traditional classes.
33. What will happen to a kid constantly exposed to AI?
A. The kid will learn to criticize and share feelings.
B. The kid will struggle with real human relationships.
C. The kid will balance AI and human connection well.
D. The kid will become more tolerant of unfamiliar content.
34. What should schools do regarding AI according to the last paragraph?
A. Ban AI tools to prevent cheating.
B. Rely on AI for teaching assessment.
C. Put aside AI’s development potential.
D. Use AI and human skills for tutoring.
35 Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Digital Map to Personalized Learning
B. A Double-Edged Sword in Children’s Hands
C. A Guiding Compass for Young Minds’ Journey
D. A New Mirror Reflecting Tomorrow’s Social Skills

We often measure progress by looking forward. We set goals and plan milestones to predict the future to some degree in various fields. For example: can we increase our earnings by 20 percent? ___36___ These are all measurements that face forward. The opposite also works well in the measurement, though.
Nearly every improvement we wish to make in our lives requires some type of behavior change. But the chains of habit are too weak to be felt. The more automatic a certain behavior becomes, the less likely we are to notice it. This helps to explain how the bad habits can affect us. ___37___ That’s because it forces us to take notice of our recent actions to determine on our decisions and improvements.
___38___ When measuring backward, you get to enjoy the progress you have made rather than desire a different life in the future. You don’t have to put happiness off until you reach a future milestone or goal. Happiness is no longer a finish line out there in the future. Focusing on how you can immediately improve over your past is more satisfying than comparing your current state to where you hope you’ll be some day.
Nevertheless, one warning should be kept in mind to this strategy. ___39___ If data from two years ago is used to measure progress and make decisions, the choices would be off. The same is true for lifting weights or other areas of improvement. In other words, the short-term feedback is preferable to change long-term behavior. ___40___ Measure backward and let that recent results drive your future actions to change you for the better.
A. Simply put, the shorter, the better.
B. There is an additional benefit as well.
C. Can we lose 20 pounds in the next 3 months?
D. How can we improve by a little bit this week?
E. The references should be those from the recent past.
F. Having a sense of direction for where to go is quite critical.
G. However, measuring backward helps uncover these invisible patterns.

I was driving my daughter Lila to her swimming lesson when we spotted a cow wandering down the main road. A thick rope was tied around its neck, dragging on the pavement behind it. The cow was ambling along in the middle of the traffic, tail flicking lazily, while a line of cars followed cautiously, their drivers leaning out of windows to stare. A group of kids on bicycles had gathered at a safe distance, cheering and pointing as the cow nudged a stop sign with its head.
“Look, mom!” Lila gasped, pressing her face against the car window. “City people are all scared of it! But you can handle anything, right? You herded cows on grandpa’s farm when you were a kid.”
I smiled, recalling the summer I’d spent on my grandfather’s dairy farm, chasing strays back into the pasture with a stick and a loud voice. “It’s just a lost cow, sweetie,” I said, “but we need to get you to swim class first. I’ll check on it after I drop you off.”
We inched past the cow, which lifted its head and let out a low moo as we passed. Lila waved, and the cow tilted its head as if waving back. I dropped Lila at the pool, promising to be back in an hour, then turned the car around to find the cow. By the time I got back to the main road, the traffic had cleared, but the cow was still there — standing in a patch of grass by the sidewalk, chewing on a dandelion. It was a reddish-brown cow, smaller than the Holsteins on grandpa’s farm, with big, gentle eyes. And there was something about it, a skittishness (难以驾驭) in its posture, that made it different from the cows I’d known back home. It didn’t seem like a farm cow at all.

1. 续写词数应为150左右;

As I step into my seventh decade I tend to reflect on what it means to age.
A. Peaceful. B. Promising. C. Upset. D. Regretful.
D 25. A 26. A 27. B
根据第一段“I recently turned seventy. Seventy is a nice number for a chapter in a book, a score in a game, or a temperature in the summer, but it wasn’t a number I was ready to face in my life. I was stuck with this number and everything it means.(我最近刚满七十岁。七十这个数字对于一本书的章节、一场游戏的得分或者夏天的气温来说都是一个不错的数字,但对于我的人生而言,却并非我愿意面对的数字。我被这个数字以及它所代表的一切所困住)”可知,作者在开头处意在表达衰老是一个残酷的事实。故选D。
【25题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“or has society simply shifted the standard for aging(或者说,社会是否只是改变了衡量衰老的标准呢?)”以及划线词后文“The physical challenges are undeniable. I can no longer run the marathons I once did, and my daily walks are now interrupted by pauses and rest.(身体上的挑战是显而易见的。我再也无法像过去那样参加马拉松比赛了,而且我每天的散步现在也会因停顿和休息而被打断)”可知,第二段中作者疑惑“自己是否真的over the hill,还是社会改变了衰老标准”,结合后文提到的“无法再跑马拉松、散步需要休息”等身体衰退的表现,可推断该短语意为过了人生巅峰、开始走下坡路,故划线词意思是“达到巅峰之后的阶段”。故选A。
根据第四段“As I step into my seventh decade, I tend to reflect on what it means to age. I see aging as a mixture of resilience and acceptance, a process that requires both fighting against the inevitable and embracing the changes that come. Aging is a natural part of life, and while I may no longer be the athlete I once was, I find new ways to stay active and engaged.(当我步入人生的第七个十年之际,我开始思考衰老的真正含义。在我看来,衰老是坚韧与接纳的结合,这是一个既需要对抗不可避免的变化,又要欣然接受随之而来的改变的过程。衰老是生命中自然的一部分,尽管我可能不再是曾经的那个健壮运动员了,但我找到了新的方式来保持活力和参与其中)”可知,作者认为衰老是一个既矛盾又自然的过程。故选A。
根据最后一段“The best may indeed be yet to come and I am determined to find the beauty in every new chapter.(也许最美好的事物还在前方等着我们,而我决心要在每一个新的篇章中发现其中的美)”可知,作者认为未来的生活是充满希望的。故选B。
C
Fabian Mdluli grew up in Acornhoek, a rural town that borders Greater Kruger National Park.
D 29. B 30. B 31. A
根据第一段中“Like many young people living near one of South Africa’s 1,690 protected areas, however, 23-year-old Mdluli had never seen the country’s wildlife in person. (然而,和许多生活在南非1690个保护区之一的年轻人一样,23岁的Mdluli从未亲眼见过该国的野生动物)”可知,居住在保护区附近的年轻人很少接触到野生动物。故选D项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Last year, Fabian Mdluli became the first fully sponsored student in an initiative by Too Wild Productions to train South Africa’s next generation of wildlife filmmakers. Founded by zoologist-turned TV presenter Lauren Arthur and filmmakers David Eastaugh, the program provides hands-on experience in the wild. (去年,法比安·姆德鲁利成为Too Wild Productions公司一项人才培养计划中首位获得全额资助的学员。该项目由动物学家出身的电视主持人劳伦·阿瑟和电影制作人大卫·伊斯特夫共同创立,致力于培养南非下一代野生动物电影制作人,并提供野外实践机会)”可知,Too Wild Productions的一个特点是提供野外实践机会,即实践性的实地培训。故选B项。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中“While Africa is a primary setting for many internationally acclaimed (受到称赞的) wildlife films, African voices remain scanty behind the camera. (尽管非洲是许多国际知名野生动物电影的主要取景地,但在镜头背后,非洲人的声音仍然scanty)”和“A 2022 report revealed that while 25% of film award submissions featured African wildlife, only 7% were actually made in Africa by Africans. (2022年的一份报告显示,虽然有25%的电影奖项参赛作品以非洲野生动物为特色,但只有7%实际上是由非洲人在非洲制作的)”可知,虽然很多电影在非洲拍摄,但非洲电影人参与制作的比例很低。所以划线词“scanty”意为稀少的、微弱的,与B项“Weak”意思相近。故选B项。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Our biggest goal is to have production companies coming to us asking, ‘Hey, who are your local filmmakers? We want to hire them,’” says Arthur. 故选A项。
D

B 33. B 34. D 35. B
根据第二段中“AI promises every child a personalized upbringing previously available only to the wealthy — private tutoring, tailored courses and customized entertainment. For example, AI can rewrite articles for an 8-year-old Hindi speaker or turn text into cartoons, and help students escape “one-size-fits-all” classes where bright pupils feel bored and struggling ones fall behind.(人工智能有望为每个孩子提供以往只有富人才能享有的个性化成长体验 —— 专属家教、量身定制的课程,还有个性化打造的趣味内容。比如,人工智能能为说印地语的 8 岁孩子改写文章,或将文字转化为动画,还能帮助学生摆脱 “一刀切” 的课堂模式 —— 在这种课堂里,天资聪颖的学生觉得枯燥乏味,学习吃力的孩子则会掉队。)”可知,人工智能帮助实现教育资源的平等化。故选B。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。 根据第三段中“Besides, one-sided relationships with AI companions, which never criticize or share real feelings make it hard for kids to deal with imperfect humans.(此外,与从不批评或分享真实感受的人工智能伴侣的单方面关系,让孩子们很难与不完美的人类打交道)”以及“A third of US teens say chatting with AI is as satisfying as talking to friends, which may weaken their real-world communication and compromise skills.(三分之一的美国青少年表示,与人工智能聊天和与朋友聊天一样令人满意,这可能会削弱他们在现实世界中的沟通能力和妥协技巧)”可知,不断接触人工智能的孩子会很难与不完美的人类打交道,会削弱他们在现实世界中的沟通能力,即他们会很难处理真实的人际关系。
根据最后一段中“Schools, as key places for childhood growth, should make good use of effective AI tutoring while focusing on skills that AI cannot replace — debating, disagreeing and getting along with others. They should also provide more chances for kids to explore new ideas and encounter different people.(学校作为儿童成长的关键场所,应该在注重人工智能无法取代的技能——辩论、分歧和与他人相处的同时,充分利用有效的人工智能辅导。
所以B选项“A Double-Edged Sword in Children’s Hands(儿童手中的双刃剑)”可以作为本文标题。
C 37. G 38. B 39. E 40. A
前文“We often measure progress by looking forward. We set goals and plan milestones to predict the future to some degree in various fields. For example: can we increase our earnings by 20 percent? (我们常常通过向前看来衡量进步。我们设定目标和计划里程碑,在一定程度上预测各个领域的未来。例如:我们的收入能增加20%吗?)”提到我们通过设定目标和计划里程碑来预测未来,并用收入增长的目标举例说明,后文“These are all measurements that face forward. (这些都是面向前方的衡量。)”点明这些做法的性质,此处需要一个类似的未来导向的衡量例子,因此C项“Can we lose 20 pounds in the next 3 months? (我们能在未来3个月减掉20磅吗?)”符合语境,是典型的未来目标设定,与前文的收入增长目标并列。故选C。
【37题详解】
前文“But the chains of habit are too weak to be felt. The more automatic a certain behavior becomes, the less likely we are to notice it. This helps to explain how the bad habits can affect us. (但是习惯的锁链太弱了,人们感觉不到。某种行为变得越自动,我们就越不可能注意到它。这有助于解释坏习惯是如何影响我们的。)”讨论习惯的自动性使我们难以察觉坏习惯的影响,后文“That’s because it forces us to take notice of our recent actions to determine on our decisions and improvements. (这是因为它迫使我们注意到我们最近的行为来决定我们的决定和改进。)”解释某一做法能解决这一问题的原因,此处需要一个说明如何发现这些隐形模式的句子,因此G项“However, measuring backward helps uncover these invisible patterns. (然而,反向衡量有助于发现这些隐形模式)”符合语境,提出反向衡量的解决方案,和前文构成转折,后文是对其解释。故选G。
【38题详解】
后文“When measuring backward, you get to enjoy the progress you have made rather than desire a different life in the future. You don’t have to put happiness off until you reach a future milestone or goal. Happiness is no longer a finish line out there in the future. (当向后衡量时,你会享受你所取得的进步,而不是渴望未来的不同生活。你不必把快乐推迟到你达到一个未来的里程碑或目标。幸福不再是未来的终点线。)”讨论反向衡量的好处,如享受已取得的进步,此处需要一个引出这些好处的过渡句,因此B项“There is an additional benefit as well. (还有额外的好处)”符合语境,引出后文将讨论的好处。故选B。
【39题详解】
前文“Nevertheless, one warning should be kept in mind to this strategy. (然而,对于这一策略,有一个警告应该牢记在心。)”提到需要警惕这个策略,后文“If data from two years ago is used to measure progress and make decisions, the choices would be off. (如果使用两年前的数据来衡量进展并做出决策,那么这些选择就会失效。)”说明使用两年前的数据会不准确,此处需要一个说明应该使用近期数据的句子,因此E项“The references should be those from the recent past. (参考应该来自近期)”符合语境,点明前文的警告,后文是对其解释。故选E。
【40题详解】
前文“In other words, the short-term feedback is preferable to change long-term behavior. (换句话说,短期反馈更有利于改变长期行为。)”提到短期反馈更有效,后文“Measure backward and let that recent results drive your future actions to change you for the better. (向后衡量,让最近的结果驱动你未来的行动,让你变得更好。)”发出衡量过去的呼吁,此处需要一个总结短期反馈的句子,因此A项“Simply put, the shorter, the better. (简言之,越短越好)”符合语境,概括前文观点,引出后文的呼吁。故选A。

Dear Mr. Green,
I am writing to share my ideas on the logo design for our English literature reading room. Among the three logos, I am particularly fond of the first one.
The logo features an open book with a globe inside, vividly conveying the idea that English literature can open a window to the world. It suggests that through reading English literary works, we can explore different cultures and gain a broader perspective. Moreover, the words “Open a book, open a world” below the image perfectly express its concept. This logo is not only simple and eye-catching but also closely related to the essence of English literature reading.
I believe it would be an excellent choice for our reading room.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: As I turned to leave, two police officers pulled up in a patrol car.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: We tied the rope to a tree and discussed what to do with the cow.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: As I turned to leave, two police officers pulled up in a patrol car. They rolled down the window and gave me a confused look. “Ma’am, do you know who this cow belongs to?” one of them asked. I shook my head and told them I’d just dropped my daughter at swimming lessons, and found the cow wandering here earlier. The officers sighed, saying they’d gotten many calls about the cow messing up traffic. When they said they didn’t know how to handle it, I offered to help — I mentioned I’d herded cows on my grandpa’s farm when I was a kid. The officers were happy to hear that, and asked me to help them deal with the cow.
Paragraph 2: We tied the rope to a tree and discussed what to do with the cow. I noticed the cow kept looking toward the countryside, its ears twitching nervously. I guessed it might have run away from a nearby farm. I suggested we check the farms around the area. Meanwhile, one officer called the town’s animal help center, and the other and I tried to calm the cow down by patting its back softly. Not long after, an hour later, a farmer rushed over and said the cow was his. He thanked us so much, explaining the cow had escaped through a broken fence. When I went to pick up Lila later, I had a great story to tell her — and I felt really proud of my old farm experience.
