Orr, who has been reporting the weather for forty-two years, is regarded by many residents as a prophet (预言家). Someone asked why the sun always shines before a storm. “It reminds us that the sun will shine again,” she replied. The real reason the sun shines before a storm? “Because you’ve often got high pressure right over you, and it’s hot,” she said. “The high moves off to the east and pushes the system our way.” Many of her workmates were sleeping at the station, but Orr preferred to go home, where she had running water but no electricity. She could bear not having an air-conditioner. The tip, she said, was to take a cold shower. Not having Internet, though, was a hardship. She said, “I couldn’t check my social media until I got to work, which was annoying.” In the days leading up to Ida, people contacted Orr through Twitter to get personal, practical advice. Orr tried to reply to every person. This hard work made all the residents respect (尊重) her a lot. Orr has always been interested in weather. In 1965, when she was twelve years old, the wind from Hurricane Betsy blew the roof off her family’s house in New Orleans. She remembers going outside and standing in the eye of the storm. “I looked up and saw the sky and saw the stars,” she said. “Bad weather happens everywhere,” she said, “Every now and then, on Twitter, you’ll see people saying, why do you live there? Well, I live here because it’s my home. This is where I grew up. This is the place I love.” She went on, “After Hurricane Katrina, I thought, could I live anywhere else? And I decided, no, I couldn’t.” She added, “As my daughter said about New Orleans when she was a little girl, ‘I even love the dirt.’” 4. Which words can best describe Orr’s explanation about sunshine before a storm? A. Encouraging and professional. B. Interesting but unclear. C. Scientific but wrong. D. Strange and boring. 5. Why did Orr think no Internet at home was a “hardship”? A. She could not call for help if needed. B. She failed to do her work from home. C. She had to wait until work to use social media. D. She missed watching news about the hurricane. 6. What childhood experience started Orr’s interest in weather? A. Watching weather reports on television. B. Seeing the stars in the eye of Hurricane Betsy. C. Reading magazines about hurricanes at home. D. Helping neighbours rebuild after Hurricane Betsy. 7. What can we draw from the last paragraph? A. Orr loves her hometown deeply. B. Bad weather makes people leave. C. Social media asks people to move. D. She planned to leave after Katrina. A 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段中““It reminds us that the sun will shine again,” she replied. The real reason the sun shines before a storm? “Because you’ve often got high pressure right over you, and it’s hot,” she said. “The high moves off to the east and pushes the system our way.”(“这提醒我们,阳光总会再次照耀。” 她答道。而暴风雨前阳光普照的真正原因?“因为此时高压气团往往正笼罩在你上空,天气会变得炎热,” 她说,“随后这股高压气团会向东移动,把降水天气系统推向我们这边。”)”可推知,Orr的解释既鼓舞人心又专业。故选A。 根据第二段中“Not having Internet, though, was a hardship. She said, ‘I couldn’t check my social media until I got to work, which was annoying.’(然而,没有网络对她来说是一大不便。她说:“我得等到上班后才能刷社交媒体,这太让人烦了。”)”可知,Orr认为家里没网络是困难的事,因为她到上班的地方才能查看自己的社交媒体。故选C。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“In 1965, when she was twelve years old, the wind from Hurricane Betsy blew the roof off her family’s house in New Orleans. She remembers going outside and standing in the eye of the storm. ‘I looked up and saw the sky and saw the stars,’ she said.(1965 年,她12岁那年,贝特西飓风的狂风掀翻了她家在新奥尔良的屋顶。她记得自己走到屋外,站在了风眼之中。“我抬头望去,看见了天空,也看见了满天繁星。” 她说)”可知,在飓风Betsy的风眼中看到星星的童年经历激发了Orr对天气的兴趣。故选B。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“‘Bad weather happens everywhere,’ she said, ‘Every now and then, on Twitter, you’ll see people saying, why do you live there? Well, I live here because it’s my home. This is where I grew up. This is the place I love.’(“糟糕的天气哪里都会有。” 她说,“偶尔在推特上,会看到有人问,你为什么要住在这儿?嗯,我住在这里,因为这是我的家。我在这里长大,这是我深爱的地方。”)”可推知,Orr因对家乡(新奥尔良)的深厚感情而选择留下,呼应了她和女儿的话。故选A。 C Lately I have started to go jogging in Yoyogi Park. One of the first things that caught my attention when I started was that everybody runs in a counterclockwise (逆时针方向的) direction in the city where there are no rules that say in which direction to run. Maybe they do it because they try to follow track & field athletics and almost any other kind of race where the running direction is always counterclockwise, or maybe is there any other reason? I have been asking many people and “researching” online. The best answers I found are from the research of a construction professor at Waseda University. Professor Watanabe Hitoshi spent many years researching the best way to design stairs and emergency exits. He reached a point in his research where he had to decide if it was better to design stairs that you have to go down clockwise or counterclockwise. Experiments had been carried out some time before, and it was known that there is a tendency (趋势) to turn counterclockwise. But Mr. Watanabe wanted to look into more so he further researched on it: ·Most human beings are right-handed. ·Most of the left-handed people are right-footed, while most of the right-handed people are also right-footed. ·Most human beings have a bit longer right leg than their left leg. These three factors make our right leg become stronger than the left leg, which causes a tendency to turn to the left, and to be able to run faster in a counterclockwise direction. Mr. Watanabe carried out a lot of experiments and observations to get some results. For example, he found out through an experiment that when people are being followed and trying to escape (逃跑), they turn to the left unconsciously 70% of the time. 8. What caught the author’s attention when he first started jogging in Yoyogi Park? A. Many track races are held there. B. Rules force people to run clockwise. C. Everyone runs counterclockwise there. D. Joggers prefer morning exercises there. 9 What was the purpose of Watanabe’s further research? A. To design better running tracks. B. To study about right-handed people. C. To find out the reasons behind the tendency. D. To show the importance of emergency exits. 10. What does Watanabe’s experiment show? A. Left-handed people run faster. B. Longer legs mean faster speed. C. People choose left turns when tired. D. Most people escape by turning left. 11. What does the text mainly talk about? A. The best way to design stairs. B. The science behind running direction. C. Tips on running faster in city parks. D. The benefits of running counterclockwise. C 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段“One of the first things that caught my attention when I started was that everybody runs in a counterclockwise direction in the city where there are no rules that say in which direction to run. (当我开始慢跑时,首先引起我注意的是,在这个没有规定跑步方向的城市里,每个人都逆时针跑步。)”可知,作者刚开始在代代木公园慢跑时,引起他注意的是那里每个人都逆时针跑步。故选C。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Experiments had been carried out some time before, and it was known that there is a tendency to turn counterclockwise. But Mr. Watanabe wanted to look into more so he further researched on it. (此前相关实验已开展过一段时间,且研究人员发现物体存在逆时针转动的倾向。但渡边先生希望对此展开更深入的探究,于是他针对这一问题进行了进一步研究。)”可知,此前已有实验发现人们有逆时针转向的趋势,而渡边教授的进一步研究目的是深挖这一趋势背后的原因。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“For example, he found out through an experiment that when people are being followed and trying to escape, they turn to the left unconsciously 70% of the time. B。 D Screens are increasingly taking over more and more of our life, leading some researchers to worry about the effect of long-term use on older adults’ brain. It has been suggested that this might lead to so-called digital dementia — that depending on digital technology throughout our life might harm our cognitive function (认知功能) in our later years. But new research shows this worry doesn’t appear to be true, at least for the generation of adults who first usually used smartphones, computers and the Internet — and who are now reaching the age when cognitive impairment (障碍) often starts to appear. In a paper published on Monday in Nature Human Behaviour, Scullin and his co-author Jared Benge, a neuropsychologist at the University of Texas at Austin, examined 57 studies of digital technology use and cognitive function in more than 400,000 older adults across the world. They found that people in the “digital pioneer” generation who made more use of digital technology did not have higher rates of cognitive impairment. In fact, technology use was related to lower rates of cognitive decline. Yet the nature of the relationship between these factors remains unclear. “I was not especially surprised by the results,” says neuroscientist Sam Gilbert of University College London, who was not part of the study. “This study provides a challenge to the widespread fears about ‘digital dementia’ and highlights the possibility of technology as a tool for cognitive improvement,” says Chiara Scarampi, a neuroscientist at the University of Geneva, who also was not part of the study. “‘Digital dementia’ has always felt like a catchy but overstated idea to me,” she adds. “Cognitive offloading — using tools like reminders or GPS — is not harmful. In fact, it can free up cognitive resources for more other tasks.” 12. What can we infer about digital dementia? A. It can be treated easily. B. It will do harm to our brain. C. It is common among the elderly. D. It is related to technology overuse. 13. What does the underlined word “decline” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Drop. B. Ability. C. Break. D. Increase. 14. What is Chiara Scarampi’s attitude towards the results of the study? A. Doubtful. B. Favourable. C. Unclear. D. Curious. 15. In which part of a newspaper can you find the text? A. Sports. B. People. C. Science. D. Environment. D 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第一段中“It has been suggested that this might lead to so-called digital dementia — that depending on digital technology throughout our life might harm our cognitive function (认知功能) in our later years.(有人认为,这可能会导致所谓的数字痴呆症——一生依赖数字技术可能会在晚年损害我们的认知功能)”可知,数字痴呆症被认为与过度使用数字技术相关。 根据第三段中“They found that people in the ‘digital pioneer’ generation who made more use of digital technology did not have higher rates of cognitive impairment. In fact, technology use was related to lower rates of cognitive decline.(他们发现,更多使用数字技术的‘数字先驱’一代,其认知障碍的发生率并没有更高。事实上,使用技术与较低的认知……率相关)”可知,前文指出认知障碍发生率未升高,结合“in fact”的转折递进,可推知“decline”与“impairment”表意相近,意为“下降、衰退”,与“drop”含义一致。故选A。 根据第四段中“This study provides a challenge to the widespread fears about ‘digital dementia’ and highlights the possibility of technology as a tool for cognitive improvement(这项研究对人们普遍存在的对‘数字痴呆症’的担忧提出了质疑,并强调了技术作为认知改善工具的可能性)”和第五段中“‘Digital dementia’ has always felt like a catchy but overstated idea to me(在我看来,‘数字痴呆症’一直是一个吸引人但言过其实的说法)”可推知,Chiara Scarampi认可该研究结果,对其持支持态度。 根据第三段中“In a paper published on Monday in Nature Human Behaviour, Scullin and his co-author Jared Benge, a neuropsychologist at the University of Texas at Austin, examined 57 studies of digital technology use and cognitive function in more than 400,000 older adults across the world.(本周一,斯卡林和他的合著者、德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校的神经心理学家贾里德·本奇在《自然·人类行为》上发表了一篇论文,研究了全球40多万老年人使用数字技术与认知功能的57项研究)”以及第四段中“says neuroscientist Sam Gilbert of University College London, who was not part of the study(伦敦大学学院的神经科学家山姆·吉尔伯特说,他并未参与这项研究)”可知,文章围绕专业的科学研究展开,还引用了神经科学家的专业观点,这类内容属于科学范畴。 While it’s wonderful to share a special trip and new experience with friends or family, there’s an attractive case for travel alone from time to time. Solo (独自的) travel can work for anyone. ____16____ You needn’t discuss with others. It can be challenging to talk over a trip and time away from work with another busy person in your life, and it’s even more difficult when you try to make plans with a group. ____17____ However, if you can’t find a travel partner on short notice, it may be the perfect time to pack your bags and go away. ____18____ If you seldom spend important time alone, you may be surprised at how enjoyable it can be. Just accompany (陪伴) yourself. Depending on the destination, a solo trip can be a powerful and life-changing experience. Imagine sitting on a peaceful beach at sunset or taking an inviting morning hike alone. You can enjoy such a hike without making conversation with anyone. You can meet new people. If you are a born open person, travelling alone can be a wonderful way to meet locals and make new friends. ____19____ You could be chatting with some interesting people at a sidewalk cafe. You could even join a group of like-minded people for yoga on the beach. The key is to keep an open mind while keeping safety in mind, especially in a foreign land. You could enjoy great service. For some reason, service at hotels and restaurants seems better when you’re travelling alone. ____20____ A. Do everything you want. B. You’re your own great partner. C Here are good reasons why you should try it. D. Often, people who are alone seem easier to talk to. E. If things don’t go well, the whole trip can be terrible. F. People often admire those who travel by themselves. G. Usually, these problems can be solved by planning far ahead. C 17. G 18. B 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 上文“Solo (独自的) travel can work for anyone.(独自旅行适合每一个人。)” C选项“Here are good reasons why you should try it.(以下是你应该尝试它的充分理由。)” 【17题详解】 上文“It can be challenging to talk over a trip and time away from work with another busy person in your life, and it’s even more difficult when you try to make plans with a group.(和生活中另一个忙碌的人商量旅行事宜、请假出行本就颇具挑战,而当你试图和一群人制定计划时,难度会更大。)”提到和一群人制定旅行计划难度大,下文“However, if you can’t find a travel partner on short notice, it may be the perfect time to pack your bags and go away.(但如果你临时找不到旅伴,那或许就是收拾行囊独自出发的最佳时机。)” G选项 “Usually, these problems can be solved by planning far ahead.(通常,这些问题都可以通过提前很久规划来解决。)” B 选项 “You’re your own great partner.(你自己就是绝佳的旅伴。)” 【19题详解】 段落小标题为“You can meet new people.(你能结识新朋友。)”,上文“If you are a born open person, travelling alone can be a wonderful way to meet locals and make new friends.( 如果你天生性格开朗,独自旅行会是结识当地人、结交新朋友的绝佳方式。)”提到性格开朗的人独自旅行能结识当地人和新朋友,下文“You could be chatting with some interesting people at a sidewalk cafe. You could even join a group of like-minded people for yoga on the beach.( 你可以在街边的咖啡馆和一些有趣的人闲聊,甚至还能加入一群志同道合的人,在海滩上一起做瑜伽。)” D选项“Often, people who are alone seem easier to talk to.(通常,独自出行的人似乎更容易交谈。)” 【20题详解】 段落小标题是“You could enjoy great service.(你能享受优质的服务。)”,上文“For some reason, service at hotels and restaurants seems better when you’re travelling alone.( 不知为何,当你独自旅行时,酒店和餐厅的服务似乎会更好。)” F选项“People often admire those who travel by themselves.(人们常常羡慕那些独自旅行的人。)” I have a strong interest in English and did well in exams. D 27. C 28. B 29. D 30. C 31. A 32. C 33. B 34. D 35. A. concerned担心的;B. calm平静的;C. excited兴奋的;D. negative消极的。根据前文“I have a strong interest in English”以及后文“eager (渴望的) to apply textbook knowledge ”可知,作者对这次机会充满期待和热情,因此心情是“兴奋的”。 故选A项。 A. captain船长;B. dentist牙医;C. artist艺术家;D. teacher老师。 结合常识和后文“my pain in English?” A. called叫;B. admired钦佩;C. moved移动;D. improved改进。 后文“in to see Dr. Smith”也说明了“被叫进去”的目的。故选A项。 A. ear耳朵;B. nose鼻子;C. mouth嘴巴;D. tooth牙齿。根据前文“I had to see a(n) for a toothache”,“there was a hole”和后文“needed to be filled”可知,问题是出在一颗“牙齿”上。 A. secret秘密;B. nod点头;C. question问题;D. shock震惊。 A. digging挖掘;B. filling填补;C. contacting联系;D. reminding提醒。根据前文“there was a hole in a(n) that needed to be filled”可知,牙医接下来要进行的是“填补”牙齿的治疗。 A. finally最终;B. luckily幸运地;C. easily容易地;D. completely完全地。 英语习语“have a sweet tooth”特指“爱吃甜食”。 根据后文“because Dr. Smith not only helped me with my pain but also English learning”可知,医生既治疗了他的牙,又教了他一个有用的习语,所以作者虽然尴尬,但内心是“感激的”。故选A项。 A. measured测量;B. finished完成;C. changed改变;D. forgot忘记。根据后文“Instead of only focusing on tests, I began to feel the richness of the language.” A. looked after照顾;B. talked to与……交谈;C. referred to参考;D. turned down拒绝。根据前文“Instead of only focusing on tests, I began to feel the richness of the language.” A. emotion情感;B. game游戏;C. project项目;D. language语言。 A. realized意识到;B. observed观察;C. explained解释;D. disagreed不同意。 后文“that having a sweet tooth — whether for candy or language — was about allowing it to enrich your life”是他从中“领悟到”的道理。故选A项。 From Oct.13 to 19, the 7th Yunnan Overseas Students Cultural Exchange Week ____36____ (hold) in Zhaotong and Kunming, Southwest China’s Yunnan province. The classroom was full of loud chatter, with students laughing and talking to each other, but I kept my eyes fixed on the ground, not daring to look up. My family had just moved to the city after my dad lost his job, and I didn’t know a single person here. The strange environment made my hands feel sweaty, and I tightly held my schoolbag strap (带子), hoping no one would notice me. As students hurried to find seats, only one was still empty — right beside a boy named Leo. He, too, was new to the class. He took a quick look at me, then turned his eyes away at once. I walked over quietly and sat down, hoping not to draw any attention. Over the next few weeks, I noticed Leo never joined any group conversations. He always ate lunch alone, seldom spoke in class, and wore the same washed-out blue jacket every day. Some classmates whispered (私下说) about him — they said he’d always had trouble keeping up in school. A few unkind students even said that he wasn’t quick in mind and was hard to get along with. Then one afternoon, our teacher announced we would work on a science project — with a partner. Everyone quickly teamed up until I was the only one still without a partner. Just as I began to worry, Leo raised his hand slowly and asked softly, “Would you like to work together?” I nodded and said yes. To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: To my surprise, Leo knew so much about plants, animals, and nature. He told me he had spent several summers volunteering at a local nature centre. During our work, he explained difficult ideas in a clear and easy way, drew detailed pictures to help me understand, and even stayed after school to help me make our model. I finally realized that his quietness was not a sign of weakness — it was because he was paying full attention to things he cared about. Those rumors about him turned out to be totally untrue. On the day of the presentation, our project received the highest score. After class, Leo gave me a small, real smile. “Thank you,” he said, “for not believing what others said about me.” “Thank you,” I replied, “for choosing me as your partner.” We walked out of the classroom side by side. From that day on, I understood that silence does not mean emptiness, and a simple, faded jacket does not mean there is nothing valuable inside. Sometimes, what is quiet and plain holds the most beautiful stories. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①解释:explain/clarify/illuminate ②绘画:draw/sketch/illustrate ③选择:choose/select/pick 情绪类 ①注意:pay full attention to/give one’s undivided attention to ②在意:care about/be concerned about 【点睛】[高分句型1] I finally realized that his quietness was not a sign of weakness — it was because he was paying full attention to things he cared about. B Four days after Hurricane Ida made landfall, the New Orleans meteorologist (气象学家) Margaret Orr took a break after twelve hours on the air to reply to some of her fans on Twitter. D She missed watching news about the hurricane. 6. What childhood experience started Orr’s interest in weather? A. Watching weather reports on television. B. Seeing the stars in the eye of Hurricane Betsy. C. Reading magazines about hurricanes at home. D. Helping neighbours rebuild after Hurricane Betsy. 7 What can we draw from the last paragraph? A. Orr loves her hometown deeply. B. Bad weather makes people leave. C. Social media asks people to move. D. She planned to leave after Katrina. C Lately I have started to go jogging in Yoyogi Park. 9. What was the purpose of Watanabe’s further research? A. To design better running tracks. B. To study about right-handed people. C To find out the reasons behind the tendency. D Screens are increasingly taking over more and more of our life, leading some researchers to worry about the effect of long-term use on older adults’ brain. C. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
