Artificial intelligence (AD is playing an increasingly important role in the restoration of
Dunhuang murals().Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, located in Gansu Province, are home to
more than 45,000 square meters of murals, some of which date back over 1,600 years. However,
these precious artworks are facing threats from natural aging, climate change, and human
activities.
Ateam ofresearchers from Tsinghua University has developed an AI-based system to assist
in mural restoration. The system first uses high-resolution cameras to capture detailed images
of the murals. Then,AI algorithms analyze the images to identify damaged areas, such as cracks,
fading, and peeling."AI can quickly and accurately detect even the smallest damages thatare
difficult for human eyes to spot,"said Professor Chen, the leader of the research team.
After identifying the damaged areas, the AI system provides restoration suggestions based

How to Remember What You Read
Reading is important, but the next important step is to make sure that you remember what
you've read!Memory is sometimes a tricky thing.
You may have just read the text, but the ideas, concepts and images may fly right out of
your head.36
Are you confused?
If the plot, character,or word usage is confusing for you,you likely won't be able to
remember what you read.37 If you don't understand what you're reading, how would
you remember it?There are a few things you can do-use a dictionary;look up the difficult
words;consult a teacher...
Are you connected?
Does a character remind you of a friend?Does the setting make you want to visit the place?
Does the book inspire you and make you want to read more? With some books, you may feel a
connection right away.38 How willing are you to make the connections happen?
Read it;hear it;be it!
Read the lines. Then, speak them out loud. And,put some characters into the words. When
he was writing his novels,Charles Dickens would act out the stories of the characters. He'd
make faces in the mirror and change his voice for each character.39
How often do you read?If you read frequently, you'll likely have an easier time
remembering what you're reading and what you've read.40 As you make reading a
regular part of your life, you'll make more connections, stay more focused and understand the
text much better. You'll learn to enjoy literature as you remember what you read!
A.What's your motivation?
B.Practice makes perfect.
C.It's a bit like reading a foreign language
D.Marking helps you remember what you read.
E.Here are a few tips for remembering what you read.
F.
But other books require a bit more work on your part.
G.You can do the same thing when you are reading the text!

B篇:
【答案】24.A 25.B 26.B 27.B
根据第一段“Sadly, when she was 14, her beloved father died and she was never able to do volunteer work with him.(悲伤的是,当她14岁的时候,她挚爱的父亲去世了,她不能和他一起做志愿者工作了)”可知,蕾妮的爸爸去世了。故选A。
根据第三段“When I asked Renee what the best part of her job was, she replied, “Helping people and saving lives.” I think that shows signs of being a true hero.(当我问蕾妮她工作中最棒的部分是什么时,她回答说:“帮助别人,拯救生命。”我认为这是一个真正英雄的表现)”可知,作者认为蕾妮是一个真正的英雄是因为她愿意为任何有需要的人付出一切。故选B。
26.细节理解题。根据第三段“Renee says that her job is frightening at times, but extremely exciting.(蕾妮说,她的工作有时令人害怕,但又非常令人兴奋)”可知,蕾妮认为她的工作既令人害怕,又令人兴奋。故选B。
根据最后一段“I was inspired by this because I knew I would be very scared to do her job and didn’t know if I could handle seeing people die. We would never live without people like her who have the courage to risk their lives. Renee’s determination rubs off on me and makes me believe that I can do anything.(我受到了鼓舞,因为我知道我会非常害怕做她的工作,也不知道我是否能忍受看到人们死去。
根据第二段中的“Unlike written exams, where visual learners may be able to parrot back memorized notes that they barely understand, an oral test demands creative thinking in real time.(与笔试不同,视觉学习者在笔试中可能会对自己几乎不理解的背诵笔记进行parrot back,而口试则需要实时的创造性思维。)”
根据第三段中的“These activities feel productive, but when exam day arrives, a student will often realize their passive familiarity with the material doesn’t translate into the ability to apply it. Nor does it translate into a good grade. Passive learning is misleading. It feels like we’re making progress, but without actually applying what we learn, it slips away quickly.(这些活动让人感觉很有成效,但当考试日到来时,学生往往会意识到,他们对材料的被动熟悉并不能转化为应用能力,也不能转化为好成绩。被动学习具有误导性。感觉我们在进步,但如果不实际应用所学,知识很快就会溜走。)”可知,学生陷入学习陷阱是因为被动学习带来了虚假的能力感,让他们误以为自己掌握了知识。故选C项。
30.推理判断题。根据第四段中的“The cognitive psychologist Daniel T. Willingham explains the distinction between passive and active learning when he writes, “Memory is the result of thought.” In other words, we forget most of what we encounter and remember only what we think about.(认知心理学家丹尼尔·T·威林厄姆在解释被动学习和主动学习的区别时写道:“记忆是思考的结果。”
【答案】32.C 33.D 34.D 35.A
根据第一段“However, these precious artworks are facing threats from natural aging, climate change, and human activities.(然而,这些珍贵的艺术品正面临着自然老化、气候变化和人类活动的威胁。)”
根据第二段“The system first uses high-resolution cameras to capture detailed images of the murals.(该系统首先使用高分辨率相机捕捉壁画的详细图像。)”
根据第四段“Human restorers still play a crucial role in making final decisions, as restoration requires not only technical skills but also a deep understanding of the cultural and historical background of the murals.(人类修复者在做出最终决定时仍然起着至关重要的作用,因为修复不仅需要技术技能,还需要对壁画的文化和历史背景有深刻的理解。)”
根据最后一段“Some experts are concerned about the over-reliance on AI in cultural heritage restoration. “We should not let AI replace human judgment,” said Dr. Li, a cultural heritage expert.( 部分专家对文化遗产修复领域过度依赖人工智能的现象表示担忧。文化遗产专家李博士指出:“我们不应让人工智能取代人类的主观判断力。”)”可知,李博士对在壁画修复中使用人工智能的态度是谨慎的。故选A。

36.根据上文“You may have just read the text, but the ideas, concepts and images may fly right out of your head.(你可能刚读完文本,但其中的观点、概念和意象却可能转瞬即逝。)” E选项“Here are a few tips for remembering what you read.(以下是一些记住阅读内容的技巧。)”
37.根据上文“If the plot, character, or word usage is confusing for you, you likely won’t be able to remember what you read.(如果情节、人物或用词让你感到困惑,你很可能无法记住所读内容。)”及下文“If you don’t understand what you’re reading, how would you remember it?(如果你不理解所读的内容,又怎么能记住呢?)” C选项“It’s a bit like reading a foreign language.(这有点像读外语。)”
38.根据上文“With some books, you may feel a connection right away.(有些书,你可能立刻就能产生共鸣。)” F选项“But other books require a bit more work on your part.(但其他书则需要你付出更多努力。)”中“but”表转折,“other books”与上文“some books”形成对比,“require a bit more work”呼应下文“How willing are you to make the connections happen?(你愿意付出多少努力来建立这种共鸣呢?)”,逻辑连贯。故选F项。
39.根据上文“When he was writing his novels, Charles Dickens would act out the stories of the characters. He’d make faces in the mirror and change his voice for each character.(查尔斯·狄更斯在写小说时,会把人物的故事表演出来。他会对着镜子做鬼脸,为每个角色改变声音。)”可知,空格处需建议读者借鉴狄更斯的方法。G选项“You can do the same thing when you are reading the text!(你在阅读时也可以这样做!)”中“do the same thing”指代上文“act out the stories、make faces、change voice”,直接将名人案例转化为读者可操作的技巧,符合“沉浸式阅读”的段落主题。故选G项。
40.根据上文“How often do you read? If you read frequently, you’ll likely have an easier time remembering what you’re reading and what you’ve read.(你多久读一次书?如果你经常阅读,你可能会更容易记住正在读的和已经读过的内容。)”及下文“As you make reading a regular part of your life, you’ll make more connections, stay more focused and understand the text much better.(当你将阅读培养成生活中一项常规习惯时,你会建立更多知识关联,保持更集中的注意力,并且对文本的理解也会深刻得多)”可知,空格处需点明“频繁阅读”的核心原理——熟能生巧。

Dr: Simon's question got right to the heart of the issue: Whose problem is it? At first, I felt defensive, still wrapped up in my anger towards my controlling father. But gradually, I began to see things differently. I realized that I had created a life in which I was not a central figure! Dr. Simon's question challenged me to confront my own responsibility in the situation. It wasn't about how terrible my father was or how much control he had over me; it was about what I would make of myself despite, or perhaps because of, my circumstances. Suddenly, my righteous anger toward my father and the blame game in the student union cafeteria felt shallow and childish.
I didn’t go to the student union that day and went straight home. My father was sitting in the living room. The atmosphere was tense, the earlier conflict hanging in the air. After hesitating for a moment, I took a deep breath, sat down across from my father and began to speak, calmly. Instead of controlling, I saw him as concerned and caring. Surprisingly, there were no shouts or angry words throughout the conversation. Gradually, I noticed a shift not only in our relationship but also within myself. I went from constant anger to become someone who was energized, excited, purposeful and even joyful. And it all started with a simple question.

Text 1
W: Sir, you parked your car in my parking space. You shouldn’t have done so.
M: Don’t get angry just yet. Take a closer look, please. I think you got it wrong.
W: Oh, I misunderstood you. My parking space is next to yours.
Text 2
M: The man is very famous in Europe, right?
W: Yes, but actually his songs and TV series are not so good.
M: That's true. I once watched one of his TV series; it’s really boring.
Text 3
M: Do you have any hobbies?
W: Yes, but nothing special. I just like reading and going to the movies. How about you?
M: I have just one, photography. It’s good fun.
Text 4
M: Would you like to go to the grocery store for me?
W: I'm sorry but I'm too busy. I've got some work to do at the Internet cafe.
M: I'll go by myself then.
W: You can order your groceries through the Internet and save yourself a lot of time.
Text 5
W: I just got an email from Mr. Fredson. He confirmed that four clients from San Francisco will be coming on Friday.
M: Great. Now, I can finalize Friday's meeting. I was waiting to hear how many people would be attending before making a reservation.
Text 6
M: What are your after-college plans?
W: No clue, I just wanna get this degree. Why?
M: I’m starting a photography club for improving our skills while capturing and creating memories.
W: How will it work?
M: We’ll start with monthly sessions, practicing basic techniques and then gradually increase the level of difficulty. We’ll also go to different locations around the city and explore new landscapes. Our college has approved the use of equipment and facilities, and there’s a website to get the word out through social media.
W: Amazing. When does it start?
M: The first weekend of next month. I’ve started reaching out to people. I’m getting a good response!
W: Count me in!
Text 7
M: Hi, Maria. Are you ready for the race on Sunday?
W: Well, Bill, I have no previous experience, so I’m not sure how to prepare. I’m worried. A classmate’s going to run ten kilometers.
M: Yes. Some people like to practice on the track or in the gym the day before. I think that’s dangerous.
W: Well, I’m planning to stay in on Saturday, give my legs a break and prepare mentally.
M: Good idea. Staying off your feet and being energetic are what it should be all about.
Text 8
M: Is there anything else that concerns you, Mrs. Ozawa?
W: Yes, there is one other thing. My company employs 357 people. Many of them have worked for Ozawa all their working lives. I want your personal guarantee that they will keep their jobs for at least ten years.
M: Come on, Mrs. Ozawa, you cannot be serious. I need your technical service guys, and some of the sales force. I’m talking 50 people tops. I’ll give them an annual renewable contract. The rest will have to go.
W: Where will you build the printers?
M: Well, we’ll just add another line to our factory in Shanghai. Employees are no big deal. Employees here in Australia are too particular about work. Mrs. Ozawa... ten years? That’s totally unrealistic. I can’t agree with that request.
Text 9
W: Look at the note on the fridge. It must be from Mom.
M: Let me see. Mom said she got a call from our grandpa this morning, because something had come up at his house. She didn’t have time to cook breakfast. Besides, she wanted us to do housework.
W: No problem. The summer vacation started yesterday, so you don’t have to deal with school work. As for me, I don’t need to go to my flower shop, because it is being decorated and won’t reopen until next week. Therefore, we’re both free today.
M: OK. Let’s share the housework now. I’ll mop the floor and take out the garbage. I leave the laundry and window cleaning to you.
W: OK. You’ve been having back pain lately, so I’ll also take care of mopping the floor. What about grocery shopping?
M: We can walk to the nearby grocery store when we’re done.
W: It is closed these days, so Mom has to drive to the far market. But she drove the car to our grandpa’s house today.
M: It’s simple. Let’s take the bus.
W: Good idea.
Text 10
Handing power tools over to young students could result in some disastrous situations. But if those tools are combined with effective supervision and teaching, the students can learn valuable new skills and might even find a new career path. One such program, in Washington, D.C., aims to teach woodworking and finished carpentry skills to teens and young adults. It includes a woodshop, completely housed inside a truck, that acts as a kind of “classroom on wheels”. The Mobile Woodshop program was started by the nonprofit Zenith Community Arts Foundation. Margery Goldberg, Zenith’s director, said the goal of the woodshop is “to get people jobs”. Joe Largess is a teacher at the woodshop. He said much of the class centers on teaching students “soft skills”. These are skills that are desirable in all jobs, such as teamwork, having a strong work ethic, being able to follow instructions and arriving to work on time. Ryan is a student at the mobile woodshop. Before entering the class, he had some experience working with wood and tools. “I wanted to give myself a chance to get better at it. That’s why I started the class,” Ryan said. He added that he saw another benefit to learning woodworking: “You can sell some of this stuff and make money from it.”
