Let’s head to the wild world of Argentine Patagonia for a great journey of Los Glaciares National Park, including the Fitz Roy hike.
Day 1: The Patagonian Adventure Starts
After jumping out of bed early, we’ll head to El Calafate, a small town on the edge of Los Glaciares National Park, known for its wonderful views. After a quick lunch, we’ll take a semi-private (半私人的)ride to El El Chaltén, a tiny village at the base of the impressive Mount Fitz Roy.

After breakfast, we’ll head east, passing through wood forests and following the Fitz Roy River. Icebergs (冰山)will be moving on the lake, pushed by the wind. On James Owen’s 70th birthday, a video showed him walking slowly to the podium (讲台) for a talk — and the sight made him feel like an old man. Owen, who built a successful career on Wall Street, was about 25 pounds overweight and he had long-term trouble with his back, knees, and shoulders. Instead of giving in to age, he set a five-year goal: to be pain-free through exercise, even though he couldn’t do a single push-up then.
Owen began his exercise plan by walking, though he started breathless after five minutes. But he didn’t give up. He kept at the walks every day, along with some stretching. Once he had those basics down, he started weight lifting and hired a fitness coach to teach him and design a routine (日常安排)he could follow on his own. Later, he took up cycling and swimming. In less than five years, Owen was able to do three sets of 50 push-ups each and walk for miles each day. And yes, he was free of aches and pains. “Aging well is only about 20 to 25 percent genes (基因), and the rest is lifestyle,” he says.
Owen used his experience to write a book called Just Move! A New Approach to Fitness After 50, in which he details how older adults can safely get off the sofa and add more movement to their lives. “Think of it as movement, not exercise, just get started,” he says, “The key is slow and steady progress.”
Now 82 and retired, Owen exercises an hour a day, six days a week. “It is the best investment (投资)I’ve ever made in my life,” he says.
4. Why did Owen decide to set a five-year goal?
A. To keep healthy. B. To give a talk.
C. To build a career. D. To take up a new hobby.
5. Which of the following can best describe Owen’s exercising process?
A. Slow but fruitful. B. Hard but useless.
C. Boring and painful. D. Difficult and discouraging.
6. What can we learn from Owen’s story?
A. It’s better to get started earlier. B. Lifestyle is important for one’s health.
C. Successful causes need investment. D. Genes play a key role in aging well.
7. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce Owen’s new book. B. To offer ways to reduce pain.
C. To present health problems of the old. D. To encourage old people to work out.

“Don’t get dirty!” was once often shouted by parents angrily watching their children ruin their best clothes. It was certain to happen that children’s white clothes would turn brown before the day was over.
Today, many parents may secretly hope their children can have the chance to get a bit of dirt on them. With the rise of city life, the fun of video games and social media, time spent in nature is much less than in the past. For many kids, there is simply no chance to get muddy. According to recent studies, the dirt outside has friendly tiny living things (微生物) that can strengthen the body’s defense system (免疫系统) and help the body fight off illnesses, such as anxiety.
The studies show that outdoor exercise is not only good because kids can run around freely, but certain natural things, such as soil and mud, also have strong tiny living things that are good for children’s health. Outdoor play can also offer useful learning experiences. For example, touching, pressing and shaping materials like mud or sand can help children develop their senses and movement skills.
Such activities — away from home or the classroom — may also help children find ways to handle their feelings that may be hard to talk about in other places. The so-called “sandtray therapy (沙盘疗法)” — a way of using sand to show one’s thoughts and feelings-is a common way to help children who are having trouble sharing their true feelings.
Surprisingly, people who spent most of their childhood in the countryside deal better with stressful situations like public speaking than those who grew up in. cities. “People who grew up in cities are like ‘easily stressed out’ when facing the pressure we have today. However, those who spent much time in nature as kids usually get better faster and are more positive,” says Christopher Lowry, a professor from the University of Colorado Boulder.
8. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing paragraph 1?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To express a view.
C. To tell an interesting story. D. To describe people’s looks.
9. Which of the following is a benefit of outdoor exercise?
A. Feeling inner emotions deeply. B. Finding more tiny living things.
C. Getting useful learning experiences. D. Changing the body’s defense system.
10. Why are some people easily stressed out according to the passage?
A. They do well in public speaking.
B. They may be dangerous to the public.
C. They are more easily affected by stress.
D. They stay positive and lively all the time.
11. Where can you most probably read this text on a website?
A. Culture. B. Health. C. Economy. D. Technology.
D
In 1999, a Japanese artist named Shigetaka Kurita made his first set of emojis (表情符号). They were used on emoji keyboards to share information simply or make text messages easier to understand. These emojis became very popular because the pictures helped connect written and spoken communication better. He could never have guessed that the symbols he designed would become so prevalent that they are now used not just on phones, but also in apps, toys and more.
So, could emojis become a global language? To some extent, they already are, but can they really be a language for everyone? Can they replace writing, so we only use emojis?
Since emojis are pictures, people from different cultures can understand their meanings more easily. They are used in every country. Emojis are becoming more detailed and have many different meanings. They can also be put together to make sentences, just like words. However, emojis probably won’t become a global language. Emojis don’t have the richness of a written language. They also have no grammar — and grammar lets us make long and detailed sentences. What’s more, it’s much harder to use only pictures to express ideas that can’t be seen or touched, such as deep thoughts about life and cultural differences.
Can emojis replace writing? That’s probably not possible either. Human thinking is often difficult to put into pictures, and very detailed. Many areas like law, science and technology need special words and expressions that emojis can’t offer. Emojis also can’t take the place of poetry and books — important parts of human cultures and societies.
Even though emojis may not become a global language or replace writing, they are still very important to people. As they do now, emojis can cross cultural lines and show the beauty of shared human values and feelings. We all know what a smiley face, a heart or a broken heart means.
12. What does the underlined word “prevalent” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A. Rare. B. Unique. C. Strange. D. Widespread.
13. What is an advantage of emojis?
A. They can take the place of writing.
B. They can express ideas that can’t be seen.
C. People across cultures understand them easily.
D. They can make up long and detailed sentences.
14. Why does the writer mention law and science?
A. To explain emojis are used in these fields.
B. To compare them with poetry and literature.
C. To show emojis can’t meet professional needs.
D. To stress the great importance of human cultures.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Emojis: From Phones to Apps B. Emojis: Useful but Not Perfect
C. Emojis: Are They Popular Symbols? D. Emojis: A Global Language for Everyone?

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。The Unspoken Letter
Lily looked at the blank paper. Her pen stayed above it, not moving. She was a new student in Canada, and English was hard for her. Last week, her teacher Ms. Brown assigned (布置) a task: write a thank-you letter to someone who helped you. Lily thought of her deskmate Tom. But she was afraid—what if her grammar was not correct?
Ms. Brown noticed Lily in trouble and came over to her. “Don’t worry about being perfect, Lily,” she said and gave Lily a dictionary. “Just write what you really feel.” Lily nodded, but she still couldn’t think of the right words. After school, Lily took the unwritten letter home, her anxiety about the task only growing. That night, while reviewing her textbook, Lily found a note in it. The note said: “English is hard for me too! Let’s practice together—Tom.” Looking at the note, Lily felt a warmth spread through her chest and decided to try again tomorrow.
The next day, as Lily sat at her desk, Tom showed her his own first letter. It was messy, with many grammar mistakes. Lily smiled and then started writing her letter. But when she finished, she crumpled (揉皱) the paper. It still felt bad—without the right words and fluent sentences. She put it in her backpack and decided to stop trying.
After class, Ms. Brown walked to Lily and said, “I saw you working hard. Do you want to read your letter to me?” Lily shook her head, tears filled her eyes. “It’s not good enough,” she said quietly. Ms. Brown patted her shoulder gently. “Let’s look at it together.”
As Lily opened the paper, Tom walked over. “Can I listen to it?” he asked softly. Lily nodded, then took a deep breath and started reading. Her voice shook, and she made mistakes with some words. When she finished, she felt embarrassed and waited to be laughed at.
But Ms. Brown clapped (鼓掌) and added, “This is the most sincere letter I’ve heard!” Tom nodded. “I wish I could write like this. But Lily, there’s one thing...” He stopped and held out a piece of paper. “I wrote a letter for you too.”

第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】范文
Lily took the letter with shaking hands. She opened it slowly. Then she saw Tom’s messy handwriting. The letter started: “Dear Lily, when you first sat next to me, I was scared to talk with you. My English was bad. But you always smiled when I spoke. That made me become brave and confident. Thank you for being my friend.” Lily looked up at Tom. Her eyes were wet. “Your English is perfect,” she said quietly.
