These bright, moving lights are called auroras, also known as the Northern Lights or Southern Lights. This amazing natural phenomenon (现象) has amazed people for thousands of years. Auroras are caused by the interaction between the sun’s particles (粒子) and the earth’s magnetic field (磁场). The sun constantly sends out charged particles into space. When these particles hit the earth’s magnetic field, they are pulled toward the North and South Poles. As the particles hit with gases like oxygen and nitrogen (氮气) in the earth’s atmosphere (大气层), they produce bright lights of different colors—green and pink are the most common, while red and blue are less common. The shape of auroras can change a lot. Sometimes they look like a curtain waving in the wind; sometimes they appear as a band of light stretching across the sky; and occasionally, they form a circle around the poles. Auroras are usually seen in high-latitude (高纬度) areas, such as Norway, Iceland, and Antarctica. They are hard to see near the equator (赤道) because the earth’s magnetic field is weaker there, so fewer particles reach the atmosphere. Auroras not only bring beautiful views but also have scientific value. Scientists study auroras to learn more about the sun’s activity and the earth’s magnetic field. For travelers, chasing the auroras has become a popular activity. However, auroras are unpredictable—they can appear suddenly and last for a few minutes or several hours. Local people in polar regions often have their own stories and legends about the auroras, making this natural wonder even more magical. 31.Northern or Southern Lights are also called ________. A.North Pole B.South Pole C.auroras D.the sun’s particles 32.Which is the right order of Aurora formation? A.④③①② B.①③②④ C.③④②① D.③①④② 33.Auroras are mostly seen in the North or South Poles because of ________. A.the sun’s particles B.the earth’s magnetic field C.the earth’s air D.the air pressure 34.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3? ①The forms that auroras display.     ②The values that auroras have. ③The areas where auroras appear.     ④The causes of auroras formation. A.①③ B.①④ C.②③ D.②④ 35.If the writer wants to add some material about the cultural stories of auroras, he had better put it in ________. 根据文章第1段“These bright, moving lights are called auroras, also known as the Northern Lights or Southern Lights.” 根据文章第2段极光形成过程的描述:“The sun constantly sends out charged particles into space.”太阳持续发射带电粒子(③)→“When these particles hit the earth’s magnetic field, they are pulled toward the North and South Poles.”这些粒子撞击地球磁场并被拉向两极(①)→ “As the particles hit with gases like oxygen and nitrogen in the earth’s atmosphere”粒子与大气中的气体(如氧气、氮气)碰撞(④)→“they produce bright lights of different colors”产生不同颜色的光(②)。 根据文章第3段“They are hard to see near the equator because the earth’s magnetic field is weaker there, so fewer particles reach the atmosphere.” 根据“The shape of auroras can change a lot.”,以及“Auroras are usually seen in high-latitude areas...” 故选A。 35. 根据文章第4段最后一句“Local people in polar regions often have their own stories and legends about the auroras, making this natural wonder even more magical.” C A scale (天平), a baseball bat and a bottle opener—they are all levers (杠杆), but each belongs to a different class. These classes aren’t like the ones in school. Instead, they tell you where the lever’s fulcrum, effort and load are. You need: ▶ruler (the lever) ▶marker (the fulcrum) ▶can (the load) ▶hair bands (to keep the load in place) ◆The fulcrum is the place the lever rests and turns. It doesn’t move. ◆You give the effort at the place you push or pull the lever. ◆The load is the thing that gets moved. In a first-class lever, the fulcrum is always between the effort and the load. When you push the empty end of the ruler down. You give the effort, and the can is lifted. In a second-class lever, such as a wheel cart (带轮推车)and a pair of pliers (钳子), the load is always between the fulcrum and the effort. When you lift the empty end of the ruler, you give the effort and the can is lifted. In a third-class lever, the effort is always between the fulcrum and the load. When you push the ruler near the can, you give the effort and the can is lifted. 36.What is a fulcrum in a lever? A.The thing that gets moved. B.The part which is pushed or pulled. C.The side that supports the weight. D.The point where the lever sits and turns. 37.What are hair bands used for in the lever activity? A.To keep the can in place. B.To balance the marker on the ruler. C.To make the ruler heavier. D.To know how high the can is lifted. 38.As a second-class lever, which part is the load of the wheel cart in the picture? A. B. C. D. 39.According to the text, which is a third-class lever? A.A scale. B.A pair of pliers. C.A baseball bat. D.A bottle opener. 40.Which subject is the text about? A.Math. B.Physics. C.Chemistry. B When you look up at the night sky in areas near the North or South Poles (南极), you may see colorful lights dancing across the dark sky. B When you look up at the night sky in areas near the North or South Poles (南极), you may see colorful lights dancing across the dark sky.
