Have you ever watched the famous Disney movie Tangled, which tells the story of Princess Rapunzel with long hair? Elsie Kennedy, 14, from Australia loved Princess Rapunzel very much, so she grew her hair down to her waist from childhood. However, her reason for keeping her long hair has changed recently. She decided to give it away to make a wig (假发) for a child with cancer.
She got her first-ever haircut at her school, the Scone Grammar School, in 2024. She later gave away her hair to Wigs 4 Kids, a program run by Kids with Cancer Foundation in Australia.
“I’ve never had a real haircut. My first haircut was when I was 7, and it was just a small trim (修剪),” Elsie said. “I’m excited to get a new look, but I’m also very happy that my hair will go to a good cause.” What’s more, Elsie tried to raise money for other kids with cancer. To do that, she asked her school for help to get the money and let more students know about the Kids with Cancer program. That was the reason why she had her hair cut at the school.
Students were then encouraged to wear purple or donate some money to show support. Elsie chose the color purple as the theme because it was Rapunzel’s color. She always wears a beautiful long purple dress in the film Tangled.
Aiming to raise $14,000, she had reached just over $10,000 by January 2025. “Knowing that my fundraising (筹集资金) will help kids and families go through a really hard time is amazing,” Elsie said.

D. To show the popularity of the movie among teenagers.

23. What is Elsie like according to the passage?

A. Because her school asked students to have short hair.
B. Because she wanted more students to notice her new look.
C. Because her school provided cheaper hair cutting service.
D. Because she wanted to raise money for kids with cancer.
25. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. Elsie’s Love for Tangled
B. The Magic of Rapunzel’s Hair
C. Wigs 4 Kids: A Great Program

These years, more e-waste recycling plans have been called for in China.
What is E-Waste?
E-waste is short for electronic waste, which refers to old technology that you are no longer using. It includes microwaves, computers, TVs, batteries (电池), screens, chargers, printer cartridges and even kitchen equipment.
What is the Influence of E-Waste?
According to the Global E-waste Monitor 2020, the world’s e-waste would reach 74.7 million tons by 2030. That’s almost a doubling of e-waste in just 16 years. This makes e-waste the world’s fastest-growing household waste.
The report also found that only 17.4% of the world’s e-waste was collected and recycled in 2019. This meant that gold, silver, copper (铜) and other high-value materials were mostly burned or thrown instead of being reused. It was a waste of about 360 billion yuan.
E- waste can also harm the environment and people’s health. For example, one mobile phone battery can pollute 600,000 liters of water.
▲
Technology companies are looking for different ways to solve the problem. For example, a Chinese company built a robot called Reuz to take mobile phones apart. It can take 200 mobile phones apart within an hour. Previously the phones were cut up before people took the useful materials out. Now with Reuz, valuable materials can be pulled out more easily.
There are some steps we can all take to reduce our e-waste. Here are my top tips:
• Instead of buying a new product, try to repair your old one first.
• Search for recycling organizations and give away your old electronics to them.
• Take out all the batteries because they need to be recycled separately.
• Give much publicity (宣传) in your community to raise people’s awareness of e-waste recycling.
26. Mobile phone batteries can be found in the ______.
A. B. C. D.
27. How does the writer introduce the influence of e-waste?
A. By telling a story. B. By giving numbers.
C. By making a comparison. D. By using an example.
28. Which of the following is the best to fill in the ▲ ?
A. What Can We Do to Reduce It?
B. Where Are Mobile Phones Taken Apart?
C. What Problems Can E-Waste Bring Us?
D. Who Are Ready to Solve the Problem?
29. What can we infer from the writer’s tips about e-waste recycling?
A. Batteries can be recycled together with other old electronics.
B. Raising public awareness is helpful for e-waste recycling.
C. Repairing electronics is the most effective way to reduce e-waste.
D. Donating old electronics is the only way to deal with e-waste.
30. What is the purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce the history of electronic products development
B. To warn readers about the dangers of using electronic devices
C. To call on people to pay attention to e-waste and its recycling
D. To teach readers how to repair old electronic products by themselves

Music is often divided into several categories (类别), or groups. Some of the categories are: classical music, traditional music, rock music, and jazz music.

It’s said that using certain skills is “just like riding a bike.” In other words, once they’ve been learned, you never forget 36 . And it’s true that while we often forget facts, we can usually jump on a bike and ride away without 37 about it.
But why are you generally still able to ride a bike even after having not ridden one for 38 ? The answer is that certain skills, such as how to drive or 39 an instrument, are part of our procedural(程序性的) memory. It is a kind of long-term memory that performs 40 procedures. And while these procedures may be difficult to learn, once learned completely, they’re 41 forgotten.
It happens because procedural memory and declarative(陈述性的) memory are 42 in different parts of the brain. To tell the difference, declarative memory is responsible for remembering 43 like names, dates, and events from your life. Studies say that the cells(细胞) in the part storing procedural memory can not 44 lose or get hurt. So procedural memories aren’t erased very often.
Now you know 45 we don’t forget how to ride a bicycle. Can you name other skills that you’re also unlikely to ever forget?

The Taklimakan Desert is the largest desert in China. It is about 337,600 square kilometers in the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang. Sandstorms often happen, and the moving sand seriously influences the lives of local people. This makes it hard for them to live in this area. However, the Chinese government and people have used many ways to control the desert.
One of the main ways is to build a tree belt (is) around the desert. In 2024, the last part of the belt was finished. It's about 3,046 kilometers in total. The belt lies as a strong wall against the spread of the desert.
Biological(生物学的)ways are also widely used. For example, people grow special plants like huyang, suosuo, shabang and so on. These plants hold the sand and reduce sandstorms. At the same time, they can also bring certain economic benefits(经济效益)to local people.
And the way of using solar power generation(太阳能发电)has been used too. By building greenhouses, people can grow vegetables and fruits. In this way, they hope to make full use of the land and light in the desert area.
