Rowling’s fantasy novels about a teenager’s adventures. Kids worldwide spent long hours reading the thick hardcovers many times. But when digital reading began supplanting print reading, we may never again see another book series attract kids’ attention as Harry Potter did. In addition, the switch to digital reading may be affecting kids’ reading comprehension skills, a recently published study finds. Scientists at the University of Valencia in Spain analyzed 26 previous studies, each exploring the effect of leisure-time digital reading on comprehension. They found that digital reading does improve comprehension skills, but the beneficial effect of deep reading is between six and seven times smaller than that of print reading, and it’s smallest for children. Great exposure to digital reading activities may prevent early readers from building firm reading basics in a critical period. Digital texts tend to be much shorter and have worse linguistic (语言学的) quality compared to printed works. Phones and computers also expose readers to distractions (干扰) from social media, You tube, and video games. Because youth tend to have poor impulse (冲动) control, they are more likely to be distracted than adults when engaging in digital reading. They also are less likely to have mastered vocabulary and grammar rules. With paper, there is a literal laying on of hands, along with the visual geography of distinct pages. People often link their memory of what they’ve read to how far into the book it was or where it was on the page. The more kids are exposed to print reading, the better able they are to understand and recall what they are reading. Moreover, as young readers consume longer and more complex texts, their reading skills improve, further boosting their abilities. It is therefore recommended that parents and teachers limit kids’ time with digital content, or at least emphasize printed works or using basic e-readers with ink-screens. 4. What does the underlined word “supplanting” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Changing. B. Replacing. C. Influencing. D. Aiding. 5. What does the author focus on in the first two paragraphs? A. The loss of deep reading. B. The importance of reading. C. The appeal of print reading. D. The benefits of digital reading. 6. The study finds that print reading can enhance kids’ reading abilities because of __________. A. Parents’ reading skills. B. Social Media’s support. C. Paper’s physical properties. D. Kids’ consumption of easy texts. 7. What does the author imply in the last paragraph? A. Basic e-readers can be promoted. B. Print reading still has a place nowadays. C. Teachers should limit kids’ reading time. D. Parents should emphasize digital reading. C Do you know that feeling happy can make you more likely to click on ads? New research finds out that when people are in high spirits, they use happier words to search for products online. And guess what? This makes them more likely to notice and click on the ads that show up after they do a search. Researchers looked at over 5 million searches and did experiments with 6, 800 people. According to the research results, people who are cheered up because they see pictures of cute babies or sunny days are more likely to use cheerful words to describe what they want to buy online. And when ads appear following these happier key words, they are about 50% more likely to make people visit a website. For example, if someone searches for a “joyful and cheerful water bottle”, they are more likely to click on the ads at the top of their search results compared to someone who searches for a “clear, metal, and lightweight” water bottle. The researchers also show that when people are happy, they are less doubtful about ads. They see the world through “rose-colored glasses”, which means they are less likely to question the ads and more likely to click on them. This is because their happy mood makes them less likely to use their critical thinking to make judgments. This new research indicates that advertisers should also focus on targeting shoppers who are feeling good in their shopping process. By doing so, they could potentially increase clicks and improve the return on their ad spending. In other words, making people feel good is the key to getting them to pay attention to the ads. So, the next time you are feeling great and searching for something online, be aware that you might be more likely to notice ads and pay for the product. 8. What does the research find out according to Paragraph 1? A. Different reasons for clicking on ads. B. Happy feelings from online shopping. C. Relation between emotions and ad clicks. D. Keywords for searching for products online. 9. How does the author show the research findings? A. By listing figures. B. By analyzing causes. C. By making definitions. D. By explaining theory. 10. What is a person with “rose-colored glasses” most likely to do? A Question the reliability of ads. B. View things in an optimistic way. C. Have a preference for rosy flowers. D. Consult a doctor about eye glasses. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. Good moods boost online advertising. B. Ads should have right target shoppers. C. Customers now are doubtful about ads. D. Advertisers increase their ad spending. D Eat more when you are stressed? You’re not alone. More than a third of the participants in a survey said they change their diets during stressful times. Many of us are quick to turn to either sugary foods or highly refined carbohydrates (碳水化合物) when the stress hits. “There can be a bit of a vicious cycle” says David Ludwig, a professor at Harvard University. “When we feel stressed, we seek foods that are going to comfort us immediately, but often those foods lead to surges and crashes in hormones and blood sugar that increase our new stresses”. So if eating lots of refined carbohydrates and sugar may worsen our responses to stress, are there other types of food that make us more resilient? Researcher Joe Hibbeln believes the answer is yes. He has spent the past two decades researching links between the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and emotional health. He also points to clinical trials that have found that omega-3 fatty acids may help control depressive symptoms. And a study of schoolchildren in England linked omega-3 fatty acids to more pro-social behavior. Drew Ramsey, a psychiatrist at Columbia University, says a nutrient-rich diet is best for beating stress. He points to his favorite breakfast: scrambled eggs (炒鸡蛋) mixed with the greens and topped with pumpkin seeds. With this meal, you are covering all your bases, Ramsey says. The eggs are a good source of B vitamins and protein, which can be more satisfactory than a carbohydrates-based breakfast. The greens are incredibly nutrient-dense, and are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin K and potassium. And the pumpkin seeds are a good source of magnesium, which is thought to play a role in fighting off anxiety — and zinc, which may help boost the immune system. The bottom line? The foods we choose can’t magic away stress. But Ramsey says he believes “There is a very, very strong connection between food and mood”. 12. What does David Ludwig say about the foods we seek when stressed? A. They are full of nutrients. B. They help get rid of stress. C. They have long-term benefits. D. They provide instant comfort. 13. What does Joe Hibbeln’s research focus on? A. What depressive behaviors schoolchildren have. B. Why lots of refined foods release people’s anxiety. C. Whether omega-3 fatty acids are linked to emotional health. D. How omega-3 fatty acids worsen people’s responses to stress. 14. Why does Ramsey introduce his favourite breakfast? A. To attach importance to all kinds of vitamins. B. To illustrate his ways of beating hunger. C. To show the emotional support from a diet. D. To give examples of making delicious breakfast. 15. Which of the following might be the best title for the text? A. More Food, More Comfort. B. Better Diet, Better Mood. C. Regular Eating, Reduced Stress. D. Authentic recipe, Excellent Fitness. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to overcome fixed mindset When you have a fixed mindset, you limit your potential because of your beliefs. That’s when it happened. We were playing around, fighting each other with pillows, when one slipped from my brother’s grasp and smashed the glass vase on the coffee table, breaking it into pieces! With her sharp hearing, my mom heard the tremendous crash and then the sound of glass hitting the floor. Wasting no time, she came flying into the room to find out what had happened. I was sure my brother and I were dead meat (死定了) and she was going to start shouting at us, but instead she just knelt by the pieces and began to cry. This made Rhys and me feel pretty awful. We went over and put our arms around her, and she explained to us why she was so upset. Under the broken glass vase was a white porcelain rose. Dad had given it to her on their first wedding anniversary. It was like their love - it would last a lifetime. Now it lay chipped (缺口) on the floor, one petal (花瓣) gone. We began crying, too, and offered to glue it for her. She said that wouldn’t really fix it. Now that it had been broken, the value of the “limited edition” had lessened. We got our piggy banks out to pay for it, but Mom replied that to her the rose represented Dad’s love and could never truly be restored. As Mom slowly began to pick up the mess, we tried everything we could think of to cheer her up, but even our best funny faces didn’t work. Mom just looked elsewhere. The tears kept coming down her cheeks as we joined in cleaning up the mess. Finally, everything was picked up. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右。 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 We decided to fix our mistake, and then an idea occurred. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mom’s eyes falling on the flowers and the card, her face lit up. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2024-2025学年高二上学期期末考试英语 本试卷共150分,共8页。 1. 【答案】4. B 5. A 6. C 7. B 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了电子阅读的兴起,以及其对孩子们阅读的积极和消极的影响。 【4题详解】 词义猜测题。根据第一段中“Kids worldwide spent long hours reading the thick hardcovers many times.( 世界各地的孩子们花很长时间反复阅读这本厚厚的精装书。)”以及划线单词句中“... we may never again see another book series attract kids’ attention as Harry Potter did.( ……我们可能再也不会看到像《哈利波特》这样吸引孩子们注意力的系列图书了。)”可知,前后文形成对比,提到数字阅读和纸质阅读,且表示数字阅读开始后,像《哈利・波特》那样吸引孩子注意力的纸质书系列可能不会再出现了,由此可推测“supplanting”意思是“取代”,即数字阅读开始取代纸质阅读,“replace”有“取代”之意。故选B项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“But when digital reading began supplanting print reading, we may never again see another book series attract kids’ attention as Harry Potter did. In addition, the switch to digital reading may be affecting kids’ reading comprehension skills, a recently published study finds.( 但是,当数字阅读开始取代纸质阅读时,我们可能再也不会看到像《哈利波特》这样吸引孩子们注意力的系列图书了。此外,最近发表的一项研究发现,转向数字阅读可能会影响孩子们的阅读理解能力。)”以及第二段中“They found that digital reading does improve comprehension skills, but the beneficial effect of deep reading is between six and seven times smaller than that of print reading, and it’s smallest for children.( 他们发现,数字阅读确实能提高理解能力,但深度阅读的有益效果比纸质阅读小6到7倍,对儿童的影响最小。)”可知,第一段提到数字阅读开始取代纸质阅读,可能不会再有像《哈利・波特》那样吸引孩子的书系列,第二段指出数字阅读对阅读理解技能提升效果不如纸质阅读,尤其是对孩子,综合两段内容,作者重点关注的是深度阅读的缺失,因为数字阅读的兴起影响了孩子像以前那样进行深度阅读。故选A项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“With paper, there is a literal laying on of hands, along with the visual geography of distinct pages. People often link their memory of what they’ve read to how far into the book it was or where it was on the page.( 在纸上,有一个字面上的手,以及不同页面的视觉地理。人们通常会把他们对所读内容的记忆与书的深度或在书页上的位置联系起来。)”可知,研究发现,纸质阅读可以提高孩子的阅读能力,是因为纸质书的物理特性,这种特性有助于提高孩子的阅读能力。故选C项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“It is therefore recommended that parents and teachers limit kids’ time with digital content, or at least emphasize printed works or using basic e-readers with ink-screens.( 因此,建议家长和老师限制孩子接触数字内容的时间,或者至少强调印刷作品或使用基本的带墨水屏幕的电子阅读器。)”可推知,作者在最后一段暗示了在如今,纸质阅读仍然有其存在的价值和地位。故选B项。 C Do you know that feeling happy can make you more likely to click on ads? 【答案】8. C 9. A 10. B 11. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了新研究发现好心情会促使用户点击广告及对广告商的启示。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“Do you know that feeling happy can make you more likely to click on ads? New research finds out that when people are in high spirits, they use happier words to search for products online. And guess what? This makes them more likely to notice and click on the ads that show up after they do a search. (你知道吗,感到快乐会让你更有可能点击广告?新的研究发现,当人们情绪高涨时,他们会用更欢快的词语在网上搜索产品。你猜怎么着?这使得他们更有可能注意到并点击在他们搜索后出现的广告。)”可知,研究发现了情绪和点击广告之间的关系。故选C。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Researchers looked at over 5 million searches and did experiments with 6, 800 people. (研究人员查看了超过 500 万次搜索,并对 6800 人进行了实验。)”以及第三段“And when ads appear following these happier key words, they are about 50% more likely to make people visit a website. (当广告伴随着这些更欢快的关键词出现时,它们让人们访问一个网站的可能性要高出大约 50%。)”可知,作者通过列举“超过 500 万次搜索”,“6800 人”以及“大约 50% 更有可能”这些数字来展示研究结果。故选A。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“The researchers also show that when people are happy, they are less doubtful about ads. They see the world through ‘rose-colored glasses’, which means they are less likely to question the ads and more likely to click on them. This is because their happy mood makes them less likely to use their critical thinking to make judgments. (研究人员还表明,当人们开心时,他们对广告的怀疑较少。他们通过rose-colored glasses看待世界,这意味着他们不太可能质疑广告,而更有可能点击广告。这是因为他们愉快的心情使他们不太可能运用批判性思维来做出判断。)”可知,“rose-colored glasses”的意思是“乐观态度”,持有该心态的人最有可能以乐观的方式看待事物。故选B。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Do you know that feeling happy can make you more likely to click on ads? (你知道吗,感到快乐会让你更有可能点击广告?)”以及最后一段“So, the next time you are feeling great and searching for something online, be aware that you might be more likely to notice ads and pay for the product. (所以,下次当你感觉很棒并在网上搜索东西时,要意识到你可能更有可能注意到广告并为产品付费。)”可知,文章开篇提出开心的情绪会使人更可能点击广告,接着通过研究阐述了开心情绪下人们的搜索用词、对广告的态度等,最后得出结论让人们感觉良好是吸引他们关注广告的关键。所以文章主要讲的是好的情绪能促进在线广告。故选A。 D Eat more when you are stressed? You’re not alone. More than a third of the participants in a survey said they change their diets during stressful times. Many of us are quick to turn to either sugary foods or highly refined carbohydrates (碳水化合物) when the stress hits. “There can be a bit of a vicious cycle,” says David Ludwig, a professor at Harvard University. “When we feel stressed, we seek foods that are going to comfort us immediately, but often those foods lead to surges and crashes in hormones and blood sugar that increase our new stresses”. So, if eating lots of refined carbohydrates and sugar may worsen our responses to stress, are there other types of food that make us more resilient? A They are full of nutrients. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. C 15. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】We decided to fix our mistake, and then an idea occurred. Rhys and I quietly slipped into the kitchen and found a piece of white paper and some colored pencils. We drew a beautiful rose, carefully coloring each petal to match the glass one. On the card, we wrote, “To Mom, our love for you will last forever, just like Dad’s.” We also picked some fresh flowers from the garden and arranged them in a small jar. With our handmade card and the flowers, we tiptoed back to the living room, where Mom was still sitting quietly, staring at the broken pieces of the vase. Mom’s eyes falling on the flowers and the card, her face lit up. She picked up the card and read it slowly, her tears now replaced by a soft smile. She pulled us both into a tight hug and whispered, “Thank you, my loves. This means more to me than anything.” Rhys and I exchanged a relieved glance, knowing we had done something special. Though the porcelain rose was broken, we realized that love, whether from Dad or from us, could never truly be shattered. It was a lesson we would carry with us forever. 画画:draw/picture ②.盯着看:stare at/gaze at ③.拿起:pick up/take up 情绪类 ①.谨慎地:carefully/with caution ②.安慰的:relieved/conciliative 【点睛】[高分句型1].
